Vixy suggested that one of us start this topic. We'd like you to find/point out "Games that have many of the Mega Man traits, like stage selection, a mix of weapons to use, sliding, dashing, and all those other things that make Mega Man so cool."
Here's one I found: Batman: Return of the Joker (Genesis version), from Sunsoft.

Gunstar [Super] Heroes
The game is short, but it's an awesome platformer nonetheless.

Darkwing Duck (NES). Why hasn't it been mentioned yet? XD
-
Because RPM already has it. :3
We just have to make that page look sexier with a guide or walkthrough.
And these too:
- Rosenkreuzstilette
- Rosenkreuzstilette Freudenstachel
- MegaMari
- Ragna Chronicle (thank you, Gonzo ^^)
The Gunstar series are a good idea, because you actually do select a level, be able to use different weapons, and you can slide too.
-
Add Magical Doropie to the list of games we've already covered (more or less).
I just remembered Power Blade/Blazer. (http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/powerblade/powerblade.htm) The main character even looks like Megaman in the original game.
-
That batman thing in the first post... that slide move was such a Rip off..
-
Totally Rad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSL2Mt1x72Q).
The main weapon resembles the buster only vertical & can be charge too. Has also different weapons/magic/transformations to be use.
-
That game is similar to The Krion Conquest in that you start out with all the powers you'll ever have. Though in turn The Krion Conquest is like Mega Man...
-
Shatterhand (NES) Is fairly similar to Mega Man, or at least it seems that way to me.
-
Shatterhand was awesome.
The intro level song was badass
-
Of course the music was great! ^^
Iku Mizutani & Kouichi Yamanishi also made the music for Blue Shadow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMgrhcho5tA), one of the most awesome ninja games on the NES. ^^

Yeah!.. I just discovered a new Ninja game.. '' I Can't believe I never saw this game before '' And it's by Natsume.. Just perfect! Thanks :P // Reminds me alot of Ninja Gaiden.

I just remembered a little game called Chronos Twin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronos_Twin) for the DS (originally GBA). Gameplay-wise, it only has the shooting in common, but there's something interesting about the GBA version:
In 2004, the GBA version was cancelled due to the publisher's fear to legal disputes with Capcom, after graphics rips were discovered on Capcom BBS and other Internet forums violating Capcom's Copyrights. Three Wonders, Marvel Vs Capcom and Magic Sword graphics are still visible on the released videos in the major gaming websites. Surprisingly enough, the publisher's website still shows GBA screenshots on their game's website. --Wikipedia, via Monokoma's YouTube post
If I remember correctly, Megaman Zero rips were found on the website.
Footage of the GBA version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnBk_62dCsg)
Trailer for the DS version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0RfVuGnW-s)
Just thought it was worth pointing out. Also, the pink fellow with the pointy head looks like Jewelman.

Pulseman is basically Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog rolled into one. It's way better than I can possibly describe it. Everyone here just has to play it.
-
megaman x
-
Naw man, Mega Man X is nothing like Mega Man. Wall jumping and dashing? RIDE ARMORS?! that [parasitic bomb] ain't Mega Man at all!
People have told that to me with a straight face before.
Heh, wasn't expecting a Touhou/MMBN crossover.
-
I expected better sprite wise. Me is dissapoint.

I'll recommend these.
Cave Story. What are the chances you haven't heard of Cave Story? Developed by just one guy over a period of 5 years. It's a testament to the creator's love of oldschool 2D platforming and shooting. It's got robots, a mad scientist, magic, and bunnies. It somehow makes all of this work together in a story that turns surprisingly dark.
It's available for free on PC, though you can also buy it as DSiware if you want it portable, or Wiiware for updated graphics and music. I think it may also be on Steam. Additionally there's a 3D remake coming out for 3DS (as a retail release), that I'm looking forward to.
Next for those who want to dust off the old N64, I recommend looking up a little gem from Treasure called Mischief Makers. Again it's a testament to oldschool 3D gaming, with a few twists. Your character is totally unarmed, and your only attack is to grab things. It's a bit like the Z-knuckle if you built a whole game around it. Tear a weapon out of an enemy's hands, and use it, rip a rocket launcher off a mech and shoot back. Grab missiles out of thin air and hurl them back at the shooter. It's entirely awesome, and lends its self to adaptive gameplay on a much faster paced level than Megaman. I highly recommend this oft overlooked title to anyone who loves 2D gaming.

Nezumi Man
You play a rat/mouse killing eight other rats (though one is a kangaroo who thinks he's a rabbit...).
And then you face off against Dr. Gyoniku.
A playthrough:

A few months ago, Protodude made a post about a Lego computer game that was similar to Battle Network: http://protodudesrockmancorner.blogspot.com/2011/02/theres-something-familiar-about-this.html
Also, I'm suprised nobody has mentioned Magical Dorpie (aka the Krion Conquest) yet, it's basically Mega Man, but with a witch, and it's really hard.

Not sure if this was already brought up, but Conagusuri (http://www.conagusuri.com/) (a music doujin circle) and with the help of Peposoft made a Touhou Mega Man/Rockman game called Touhou Koukayaku: The Game (東方虹華薬 The Game) that's kinda like Twilight Frontier's Mega Mari, except this game was based on Unidentified Fantasic Object. You get to play as Byakuren Hijiri, and later, Ichirin, Minamitsu, Shou, and Nazrin by swapping them out in the way you'd switch weapons in a Mega Man/Rockman game, and each character has their own unique shot-type. The game was actually released at C79 with Touhou arrangement they've released (official site/Japanese (http://www.conagusuri.com/sp/cd16/)).
