With the month until E3 mark just around the corner, I thought it'd be quite an interesting idea to start this thread.
ITT: We discuss, rabidly speculate, leave information, and just have a general good time thinking about what we could expect from this year's "Return to Form" E3. After the last two "meh"-a-ton E3s (minus the amazing FFXIII 360 announcement & execution of said announcement 8D) and the unlimited spring of hype and hush (glares at Nintendo) around this year's event, you could say that one wants to be cautiously optimistic, but in my case, since "I'M 200% [chameleon sting]ing OPTIMISM" (Patent Pending), I expect great things from this, no matter what they may be! XD
As is the custom for my manic info threads, I'll update & organize this OP with more fanciful & tasteful means when I get the chance to do so. Feels free to contribute any news articles circa this year from 1-1-2009 until the current day that could help us out with what to expect from E3. In the meantime, feel free to get down with your fellow gamers ("casuals" & "hardcorez" 8D), fanboys & fangals and join us on the road to madness E3 2009! 8)
Also, [tornado fang] you Lou for going this year. -_-

Also, thank you PB for putting me in a Pulp Fiction state of mind. XD

I hope for something better than last year.

I thought that read Megatrons in the title.
-
I thought that read Megatrons in the title.
I should change it to that one day. It'd still be relevant. XD
-
Megatron? Is that you?
-
I've not been excited for an E3 for about 6 years. This will be no different.
-
I hope for something better than last year.
Is it even possible for it to be worse? Anyways, I have almost all I need right nowm so I'm not as excited for E3 as in the past years.
-
Nintendo has to announce something really big for the Wii at E3. the Wii is in a real slump over in Japan; PS3's been beating it for a while. and Punch Out and Wii Sports Resort alone will not fix that. they need a new Zelda or something. Ninty needs to come out with some DSi exclusives, too.
Sony's set with the PS3 in Japan, what with FFXIII supposedly coming out at the end of the year. i say supposedly, cause i can guarantee it will get delayed at least one more time. i'm as sure of that as VersusXIII getting a 360 release. but Sony needs to ante up a little bit for outside Japan. also, those rumors of a PSP 4000 may very well come true at E3.
i don't have anything to say about Microsoft. they have barely any exclusives left. guess Rare fans are going to have to keep holding on to hope of a KI3 announcement. although, there was a rumor about Perfect Dark XBLA, which would be pretty sweet.
as for multiplatform stuff, at this point its going to be hard to top Bayonetta.
-
I cannot watch this show as I will usually have a coniption from all of the excitement from all of the booths if I hear something I like.
If I hear something about a new Zelda I will have to change my pants. Twice.
-
I thought they changed everything up to where it has to be all srs, with no booth babes and [parasitic bomb].
-
I thought they changed everything up to where it has to be all srs, with no booth babes and [parasitic bomb].
Nobody liked it, and the people who went hated it. Even the companies considered it a joke after they went for the "serius buisness" approach, and who wouldn't? It was only the biggest celebration and event in the entertainment media industry the year before the change (E3 2006, THE BEST ONE EVER).
What's really funny though is the idea that L.A. isn't fond of the show. Rumors have it that after E3 2010, the spectacle will be moving elsewhere.
(COME ON NYC! XD)
-
I doubt it. The Javitz probably isn't big enough, plus the fact that there are NO CHEAP HOTELS around that area at all.
-
Rumors have it that after E3 2010, the spectacle will be moving elsewhere.
(COME ON NYC! XD)
Screw NYC (sorry guys XD), move it here to Mexico, preferably somewhere close to me. No, I don't care we have (or had? I don't know anymore) our own crappy mini version of E3.

Tales of Vesperia on PS3 to America. That's all I really need to hear. Otherwise, I'll throw a vote in for Steampunk Zelda, a Mario game, still too soon for a new Sonic game, olympic crossover aside... though a Sonic Rush 3 wouldn't be a bad thing... Mega Man ZX 3 is out of the question since Japan usually drops word of that. Devil May Cry 5 wouldn't be too bad. Lunar Knights 2 would be fan-[tornado fang]ing-tastic.
Also, Jelly, I think we need more of this:

Yes. Now that MGS4 is done someone should kidnap Kojima until he agrees to do a Boktai 5. Quick! Somebody call this man!

no sir it's not. i guarrantee a new Sonic game will be announced and rushed out for a Thanksgiving release. development began yesterday.
though a Sonic Rush 3 wouldn't be a bad thing...
Rush Adventure killed all my hope for that series. but that would fare better than the other handheld Sonic series.
COMING SOON TO THE PSP!!!
SONIC RIVALS 3!!!!
Now with more NOT FUN!!!
Featuring Vector the Crocodile!
With more bling than you bitches can handle!!

What do you think this is, Japan? Never though you'd sink that low!
I know for sure Reggie Fils will be at next the E3 [spoiler]with more charts[/spoiler]

OP has been updated with as many meaningful and relevant tidbits I could round up in a quick Google search. I'll be keeping an eye out for more with time.

Well, I was speaking more in regards to something on scale with Sonic Unleashed. Rivals 3 wouldn't be a bad idea if they would just let go and cut the Rivals crap from it. Originally, the brand was to be titled Sonic Lightning and was more a traditional Sonic platformer. However, Takashi Iizuka, with his reverse Midus Touch, decided the game needed more zing to it, killed the single player in favor of the pile of [parasitic bomb] versus mechanic. The single player mechanic was somewhat brought back in Free Play mode in Rivals 2, which isn't too bad. Only bad part is you can't fight the bosses.
-
reverse Midus Touch
XD

Just hope this year has booth babes. Else it won't gather any attention from me.

Just hope this year has booth babes. Else it won't gather any attention from me.
You know what's funny? I think I'm the only person around who's never really paid attention to booth babes at E3. XD
They're nice and all, but I guess the gaming sensory overload shuts down my Y chromosome. That and I've never seen a cute one yet (Or some with nice rear... '>.>), just the wanna be "hot" types.
-
The big huge Christmas-time game is either one of:
-Super Mario Galaxy 2
-Pikmin 3
We know the Zelda team was "working on something", and we also knew there were DS projects in development.
Well, now we know that this project was LoZ: Spirit Tracks.
So now, Miyamoto strongly hinted at SMG2 in interviews even going so far as saying that he wanted it to play like SMB2USA, and he also unwittingly announced Pikmin 3, which, just got one of its predecessors (Pikmin 1) ported to the Wii in addition to the SSBB roster spot. And remember, both of these things occurred at last year's E3.
It's either one of those. Could it be both? Sure. But the emphasis is on one.
-
You know what's funny? I think I'm the only person around who's never really paid attention to booth babes at E3. XD
think again.
-
I, for one, want to be surprised by the big game, so I'm choosing to not think about the Marios/Zeldas/Metroids that could show up. (Give me some [tornado fang]ing StarFox, Kirby, F-Zero, or StarTropics, dammit!) Also, not to throw a wrench in your logic Aldo, but Zelda Wii is still very possible as it has been noted that the hand held team =/= the entire Zelda team. The hand held games are made by the ex-members of Flagship that Nintendo scooped up and is only led by Aonuma, whereas the console Zelda team are made up of the EAD crew that has been doing Zelda since the beginning.
-
Yeah, I'd like to see Star Fox or Kirby.
Come to think of it, it's kind of weird that Wolf got an SSBB slot.
And as complete as it looked, Kirby Wii/GCN should be released.
-
StarTropics III would be awesome.
-

Hellz yes. High five.

I wouldn't be but so worried about Nintendo. For all the PS3 has been actually doing to sell well...the total PS3 user-base is STILL eclipsed by the entirety of the Wii Fit owner-base alone! 8D
And there is the thing: the main reason that Wii sales are slowing are because....well, practically EVERYONE who wants/wanted that system either has one already, or stands to get it very soon. And because the Wii isn't like the PS2 (where more units are sold because the first one you may have had, may be broken by now), that's more over the reason for sales to be slumping.
The last few years was basically about Nintendo doing more to secure the casuals. They've accomplished that objective with flying colors. Now, much like with the DS years ago, this should, ideally, be more about just delivering on the goods to make the hardcores happy, and possibly convert at least some of those casuals to the "hardcore" side too. In short, they've done more to get all their ducks in a row. Now they just need to get Zapping. 8D
XD
It's funny/sad because it's TRUE though.
-
That's why I laughed. I've never seen such an apt description of a person's "talent" like that before. XD
-
I checked the Wiki, but it may be a lie. Good 'ol SEGA's been into the toy scene enough to compremise a Bakugan: The Video Game.
Plus where's my SRWOG3? Just make sure they don't contain the Xenosaga wannabes (one looks JUST looks like a blue hair Shion). :p
I might want to take a peek at a handheld Soul Calibur, that could be nice, too. Keep the Star Wars trend as well, I need a Obi-Wan for the DS.
Reveal this "Shin Rockman" as well.
Now, here's my expectations:
-SRWOG3 DS
-Bakugan: The Game for the lolz to see how bad "The Game" is.
-Soul Calibur DS
-Shin Rockman
-Duck Hunt Wii
-
Hellz yes. High five.
o/ \o
I really don't have much else to say on this topic though.
-
Duck Hunt Wii
Wii Play called, it asked you where you've been the past two years. XD
-
Now, here's my expectations:
-SRWOG3 DS
-Shin Rockman
Can't see either of these happening, at least not at E3.
Capcom and Banpresto(Namco-Bandai) are more likely to reveal these things at their own events, not E3. Especially in the case of any SRW title, where its main fanbase is in Japan.
-

So yeah, I was listening to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C43P5_N3KXA&fmt=18), and now I'm praying the big holiday game is a new 2D Metroid done by WayForward.
I also need a new pair of pants. Kraid's Lair in Zero mission is some godly stuff.
-
Wii Play called, it asked you where you've been the past two years. XD
I don't care if that target shooting game did have the ducks, it is no replacement for the greatness that is Duck Hunt.

forget who makes the game. i want a new 2D Metroid, period. and don't say things like a WayForward-made Metroid. remember: hype can kill.
the next gen Castlevania comes to mind right now. what the hell is IGA going to do with that? and where's the 1999 games already?
-
Only reason I brought up WayForward was because of that one time they called out Nintendo and said "let us try a Metroid" in one of their AB&HB podcast spotlights.
Either way, totally agreed.
-

The nigh-legendary "PORTRAITofRUIN" talked about how this was reportedly going to be a great year for CV, even as last year was "good".
So, that HD game for 360/PS3 probably going to make its official splash this year, with possibly the 1999 games at least being officially announced (of which there's supposed to be two).
But any way...yeah, we need a new 2D Metroid in the worst way.
-

She did? My expectations are high then.

Could not agree anymore.
-
Time to talk action games. E3 will be complete fail if I don't get my damn well deserved Bayonetta footage. XD
Seriously, frikkin guns on her heels. If that isn't an amazing step forward for action games, I really don't know what could be.
And Ben, you sig makes the wait soooo much harder. XD
-
footage? pfft. that's going to be one of the games playable on the show floor.
-
wat.
Lou better get an in depth look at that game and give us the rundown. XD
-
Also, Aldo, please can you hook me up with the link that mentioned that Miyamoto wanted to make Galaxy 2 play like SMB2USA? I'm late, but that's one hell of a juicy tidbit in my opinion. Needs more sauce though. XD

I second this notion.
A Galaxy sequel/otherwise that played like SMBUSA would be HEAVENLY, in my opinion. Especially if it encouraged the triumphant return of Peach, Toad and Luigi as playable characters again, and took us right back to SubCon, once more.

I can't find it. I mean, I know the site I found the interview at, but it's not there, now.
Or maybe that wasn't it? Heck, it's been a year, and I really didn't think that much of it. I will be, though, when I'm running from Phanto yet again, eh?
-
We can only hope then. ;O;
-
Well, it's not specific on gameplay, but IGN's article is even more specific than I thought: (http://wii.ign.com/articles/890/890276p1.html)
When we pressed him for more, Miyamoto added, "Maybe the best thing for you to understand is that all of the leaders of those teams -- of the Mario team, of the Zelda team and of the Pikmin team -- all sit within 150 feet of my desk. The Galaxy team is the only one that's farther away -- they're in Tokyo. But I do have video conferencing with them."
We stunned him with a hard-hitting follow-up: 'We don't really have a question. We just want you to make another Galaxy game.' To this, Miyamoto replied, "Leave it to me."
Alright. We've already seen the Mario and Pikmin teams warming up with Mario Power Tennis and Pikmin 1 ports.
Then there's Pikmin 3, which is already known.
We've also been shown LoZ: Spirit Tracks.
Now, based on all that, considering he's mentioned all 3 franchises that we've heard from recently, THEN for him to not only specifically talk about a Galaxy team but moreover to say that he presently has video conferencing rather than past tense referring to SMG1's production process,
...yeah, expect a Super Mario Galaxy 2 at some point. Heck, expect a 3. Remember, the Wii is copying the NES' success frame.
-
Sounds good to me.
-
Boktai 5.
This or Lunar Knights 2
-
...You better have said that as a joke >_>
-
Lunar Knights 2 would be fan-[tornado fang]ing-tastic.
^I want this damn it!
-
...yeah, expect a Super Mario Galaxy 2 at some point. Heck, expect a 3. Remember, the Wii is copying the NES' success frame.
This is absolutely true, and I'd love another Mario 1 console trilogy honestly. However, it isn't NES MKII until StarTropics comes again. 8D
-
...yeah, expect a Super Mario Galaxy 2 at some point. Heck, expect a 3. Remember, the Wii is copying the NES' success frame.
So SMG2 will be the least sucessful of the SMG Trilogy, and SMG3 will exceed all expectations and become the best seller of them all? 8D
(Don't get me wrong, I love SMB2USA.)
-
What funny about that is SMG is so similar to SMB3 that your comparison makes me wonder how the Galaxy formula can possibly be made better.
Scary. XD
-
Apparently, the solution would be to add a Yoshi or the ability to beat the game in about 20 minutes.
-
Yoshi: the one thing Sunshine had over Galaxy.
-
Lou officially gets his tickets/something to E3 tomorrow.
-
Please kick him once in the shin for each member of RPM for me. XD

you go over to his house and kick them yourself. and while you're at it, steal the tickets.
so i can do the same to you.
-

You know, it might be in reverse. Since SMG1 had SMB3 elements, and SMG2 is rumored to have SMB2USA gameplay, then...
SMG3 might be as basic and fun and perhaps as epic a finale as SMB1 was a pioneer.
Yoshi: the one thing Sunshine had over Galaxy.
Yoshi was in SMG! 8D

I don't think his head being a planetoid counts. :P
-
I share everyone's enthusiasm
but for other games, I WANT MY [tornado fang]ing NEW TEAM ICO GAME FOOTAGE FUMITO UEDA!!!
that's all I want from E3 09 >.>'
-
No Mega Mans at E3 this year. Kind of sad.
Also Yoshi was barely in Super Mario Galaxy. In Sunshine he was usable and became his Super Mario World cartoon version where he hated water.
-

i'm sure they'll show Star Force 3. what's sad is that'll probably be the only thing they show.

In fact, this year, they have to scale it down to an E2. Couldn't afford all 3 E's. 8D
-
So I take it the booth babes will be performing sexual services to pay for things on the side. Sub wins this round. XD

Oh yeah. After the conferences, if you pay an extra $200, you get an E-Job! ;)

Well they don't call it an "exposition" for nothing, you know.

E3 2009: Microsoft Promises Transformational Show
Big words in advance of a big event.
by Erik Brudvig
April 28, 2009 - Microsoft's senior vice president for Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft (say that three times fast) Don Matrick has put out a statement through the Entertainment Software Association promising to kick off E3 in "blockbuster style." In fact, the senior vice president even went so far as to say that Microsoft's presence will, "completely transform how people think about home entertainment." That's a powerful statement. Here's the complete quote from Matrick:
"Microsoft is gearing up for a big presence at E3 which will completely transform how people think about home entertainment. We're excited about the momentum that is building in the industry in anticipation of our June 1st media briefing, which will kick off E3 in blockbuster style."
Article Here. (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/977/977287p1.html) Discussion is go.

Can't wait for E3 XD
Also, I'm looking forward to see how Iwata is going to uphold his promise of surpassing the PS2 in a year =P
-
Man, it's really a battle of the PR this time around, I just wonder who is actually up to delievering what they claim they will at this year's E3.
Also 4000th post, [tornado fang] yea. XD
-
Sounds like support for those rumors. You know, that MS will present a new console on E3.
-
Wait wat? Sources please, I don't think there has ever been a better situation where a "lolwut" was needed. XD
-
As I said: Rumors. It's up to you if you believe it or not.

Oh man, Booth Babes of RPM!
ART IDEA.
I would pay to see this. Is 50,000 macca alright?

Geoff Hathaway via the Capcom Unity Twitter has all but thrown kerosene into the flames of the fanbase's rapidly growing hype train by stating that on top of the new things that have come about from CAPTIVATE '09, there will be two new reveals at E3.
The first of which, is expected with all of the talk of Biomic Commando Rearmed and HD remixes in general. The second is apparently going to be an amazingly out of left field new development. My personal guesses:
Marvel vs. Capcom 3/Strider HD Remixed and Megaman Legends 3. 8D
Discuss. Also, Twitter Link. (http://twitter.com/Capcom_Unity/status/1643098396)

Capcom Mystery Game #1 (playable in booth!)
Capcom Mystery Game #2 (announced at a press conference!)
oooh, fun~
-
Capcom Mystery Game #1 (playable in booth!)
Capcom Mystery Game #2 (announced at a press conference!)
So...we're getting a press conference that talks about something other than the Lost Planet movie this year?
-
Huh, so E3's mystery capcom games might be the lengends PSP games coming out for a dub, but it's the Lost Planet Movie-based game as it looks.
-
Capcom Mystery Game #1 (playable in booth)
Capcom Mystery Game #2 (announced at press conference!)
Oooh, I'm excited just by wondering what this 2 games might be. Hope it's something juicy! If it does happen to be Legends 3, I hope it gets released on the Wii (for I do not own a PS3, plus is very likely that they would put it in one of those consoles).
Anyway I hope to see some wii motionplus action on the big three Es.
-
It's too quiet on the Mega Man front, with only Starforce on the radar... and that's a pretty meh target.
-
Really? I've been looking forward to indie/doujin/fan Rockman games this year though. ^^
-
I'm speaking officially, of course. :P That's a whole different story thar.
-
http://www.rare-extreme.com/
"There have been plenty rumors about Perfect Dark coming soon for XBLA... well... we can confirm that Perfect Dark is indeed on it's way to XBLA. This is not a rumor, it's coming! Not just that, there is a very large announcement coming from Rare soon (ahem in line with E3). We last heard that it wasn't known if they would go ahead and make this announcement but as time progressed, it looks as though it's all systems go. Expect a major surprise from Rare this June"
Yeah, so I'm going to say Perfect Dark 2 at E3 this year. Your thoughts?
-
KI3? ;___;
The [tornado fang] am I kidding? That [parasitic bomb] is NEVER coming! ;___;
-
Banjo Threeie? Or Fourie?
-
KI3 has a new friend to talk with out there in never gonna happen. His name is Duke Nukem Forever.
...
;__;
Banjo Threeie? Or Fourie?
Very very want. This gen's platformer output on consoles has been nothing short of appalling. It would be abysmal, but Super Mario Galaxy is holding down the fort with it's sheer will to be awesome. XD
-
Banjo Threeie?
Right here. (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/234288)
-
I'd be more happy about a Perfect Dark 2 if Rare showed me any signs that they can give me a proper newer version of games I loved.
-
concerning a true BK3, Rare should take a page from Capcom. make BK3 on XBLA as if it was still being made on the N64, just with the visual tweaks to make it as smooth as the XBLA ports.
-
Posting in this thread to let everyone know that the E3 2009 hype has hit the community. Remember guys, this thread will be around until the weekend before the presentations. Then I'll be locking this one and starting up RPM's Official Catch All Thread (or separate ones for each of the big 3 should you all prefer it that way).
Leave your thoughts on which format should be taken here.
-
I'm remaining calm. A good thing as stated earlier.
Actually, I'm so busy that I have a hard time concentrating on it.
-
Yeah, I definitely know that feeling. I just got a bit more excited by it because I remembered how much fun it's gonna be chatting with a good group of friends over at GAF via IRC. XD
Still though, I'm sticking to my guns as stated earlier in the thread.

Keep this link (http://g4tv.com/e32009/splash.aspx) on hand for the festivities at G4, including Steve Wiebe's live attempt at claiming the top record in Donkey Kong Arcade live on the E3 show floor. Also, for all of us who may have the channel, remember that all of E3 including the much anticipated Big 3 Conferences will be aired live via G4TV.
Also, be sure to keep Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/tag/e3/), Gametrailers (http://www.gametrailers.com/e3/), & Gamespot (http://e3.gamespot.com/?tag=promo;title) up for other alternatives. Then also be sure to check out The Official E3 2009 Discussion Thread once it goes up for the one true catch all and party thread with the lovely hosts, namely myself and anyone else who might wish to give me a hand with managing the details.
Capcom (http://kotaku.com/5262805/swine-flu-outbreak-kills-dead-rising-2-e3-appearance), Square (http://kotaku.com/5265089/square-enix-restricts-e3-travel-over-swine-flu) & KOEI (http://kotaku.com/5263539/koei-sending-limited-number-of-japanese-developers) call off some of their trips from Japan due to flu scares. In the case of Capcom, this also inadvertantly led to a possible cancellation of the Dead Rising 2 spot that was reserved for E3. In short, [tornado fang] you pigs. XD
Although SEGA says they'll still be appearing in full. Cool.
-
So ar they gonna stay away or are they gonna send less people?
First case would really suck.
-
Sad Onion B(
I expected to hear Capcom annouce their secret games at E3...
But well, can't blame them.
-

Capcom is pretty much not showing up outside of what's already there/their western developers. Square & KOEI are sending few, if any people over from Japan.
-
It's funny, but right now the only thing on my mind is the mysterious Konami game. I mean, MGS5 is all but confirmed, unless it's some dastardly plan to throw people off. As far as I know though, there's still another mystery game in the works. I really REALLY want it to be ZOE3.

That really really [tornado fang]ing sucks.

Is it weird that I want it to be this too, even though I haven't played the other games yet?
That really really [tornado fang]ing sucks.
Yes it does. D:
I just hope that it means we'll see possible web streams of some things from there during the show's progression.
Also, one last note, I will be closing this thread at the end of this weekend and preparing our official crazy RPM E3 thread in the meantime.

Official thread is up everyone. (http://forum.rockmanpm.com/index.php?topic=1755.0) Check it out and tell me if it needs altering!

As long as Sega and Nintendo are there, all is not lost.
I mean, as if right now, Bayonetta is the top thing I'm concerned about seeing more of. Anything that Ninty could stand to add will just be the icing on the cake.
Most of the others probably won't be showing off more of their more interesting stuff until later (like TGS), any way.

They probably feel that they have to make up for E3 last year.
...which, now that I think about it, is probably true.

And Jelly reminded me of one of Iwata's quotes;
If Iwata wants to break the PS2, give VC games online/network play.
But, that'll never happen, so, surprise, if they make another Wii Sports or other accessory game, it won't even be close to a 1:1 install base just by its own nature, and it won't pull in enough new customers to break the PS2.
-
And fix the Wii play a bit, Sony and Microsoft's online play litterally dominates the Wifi play without the use of friend codes.
Aside from the serious lack of fighters on the Wii due to it's gimmicky control style, I belive the Wii could throw more punches this year, aside from Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny.
-
I think Sub Tank would yell in glee if they announced Demon's Crest 2.
Personally, I'd be overjoyed if Capcom announced Breath of Fire 6.
-

As would I my friend, as would I.

Wouldn't be the only one, in either case.
But, probably at the top of my list? A new Rival Schools game. To me, the time is right. 8ing (Fate: UC, TvC) could probably bang out a new game much in the line of its predecessors, and it could be awesome.
Load it up with Character Creator, the "Sim Life" mode and etc, along with on-line? Hawt stuff. *o*

The Lounge Thread is open guys! (http://forum.rockmanpm.com/index.php?topic=1755.0) Thanks for participating in this one. See you all soon for madness!
