Hey, can't disagree with that. So many series nowadays are just focused on being cute moe garbage because that sells and the passion projects die.

Not that there isn't good moe stuff, its just for every Jojo or Evangelion we get there's 10-15 KanColles right beside it.

I can't disagree, either. If one is to draw people, they need to watch people and learn people and get a feel for how people look, act, and move. Too many times have I seen terrible lapses in anatomy in anime, and it's most likely due to what Miyazaki said; otaku don't know people.

If you're isolated in a room with no social interaction, you cannot learn how a body moves in 3D space and we end up with animation flubs where a right leg turns into a left leg.

It's just an opinion and I have my own as well. I love manga. I read it all the time. Anime, however, I watch very little. In the last year, the only anime that I actually liked were Kill La Kill, Samurai Flamenco, and The Devil is a Part-Timer.

That's precisely why I'm such a huge Ghibli fan.

Watch those films (Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, etc.), and you'll notice how life-like everything is, from carefully constructed character animation, to the subtle details in the locations and how they operate. It's stunning; more so for people like me who was inspired by animation like that.

Not just that, of course, but how characters interact with others; it's organic and incredibly well thought-out. One film in particular experimented with incorporating realistic cheekbones and how well that would translate into a 2D animated format.

That said, I also enjoy watching stuff that Miyazaki might consider garbage. Even if the animation isn't realistic, it's still quite good. And even then, I like stuff that would look terrible when compared to Miyazaki films.

I was even shamed for my love of Ren & Stimpy. I love that show.

TTGL and FLCL come to my mind.

At least with those, you're not really supposed to take them seriously, anyway. They're just fun.

However, with Miyazaki, everything he does is realistic and crafted with attentive care.

Art doesn't bother me too much so much as theme and how it's presented, like aversion with moe as previously stated above, and other things.

We know it's the point, but it's way overboard. Plus like I mentioned Haruhi's behavior of weaponizing her moeness for fan service, and the groping without prejudice, makes it 10 times worse to me.

Well yeah. That's what I mean by it being the point. I always took it as a reason to feel bad for moe characters like that, who have perverted otaku constantly ogling and wanting to grope her all the time.

Maybe Phi can explain his reasons since his are probably way different than mine. Plus I have a bias against moe in general most of the time anyway, for a variety of reasons.

Anime Club always starts with Moe animes so I go half an hour late because of that.

I know but I know his are different and would probably answer your question because I didn't say why she herself bothered me but rather the things that happen to her that bother me. Plus it's been years since I watched Melancholy and I barely remember any of Mikuru's quirks, Mikuru was the least memorable to me.
