Glasses help a bit. Also keeping your face a fair distance from the pan. I've burnt myself with cooking grease occasionally on my face, but mostly my arms get the brunt of it.

Yeah same here, and honestly barbequing makes my eyes hurt worse. That's why I kept my goggles from chem class for such occasions.
