Hmmm... My Weighttraining teacher once explained the reason for those unsightly Musclebounds. I forgot it now. I think it was all workout with no stretching inbetween or something...

Dehydration will also bring out the form more.  Bodybuilders will dehydrate themselves so that their musculature is more visible.

The cloaking device on the Defiant was a Romulan cloaking device.  It was giving to the Federation as part of an agreement, due to the threat of the Dominion & the Gamma Quadrant.
