So far the battles are waaaaaaaay less complicated than the Saga games x3

The SaGa games don't have very complicated battle systems. They're pretty easy. I just never understood how Unlimited SaGa worked. That game was such a break from the old traditions.

I still wonder how people could play this. Because I couldn't.

The game was gorgeous though. In art and sound direction.

Heh, even my real life friends and my cousin couldn't comprehend. Hell, my cousin was the one who introduced me to it.

Music really helps though. (boss battle theme) owo

That's good to know. I thought it would be complicated judging from trailer.

But when they say linear, it's the map only right? There must be some kind of... sidequest?

Well, you just need to be really good at jackpot and got lucky getting awesome LP damage skill.

Well, that's what people are saying.  People DO like to exaggerate, especially since it's more fun for them to say somethings failed in some way.  I'm still in the first area but I'm guessing it'll probably work like FFX did, basically keep moving forward.  There might be a way to go back or do side quests but I'm still not far enough.

People also keep saying there are really no towns or anything and all shopping is done through the save point.  You also don't seem to get gil from enemies again in this one (I've only found some from treasure chests treasure floating spinning orbs) and I guess you sell the spoils for extra money (I think you also use some of them to level up the weapons).  All the shop has for me right now are Potions and Pheonix Downs though, and it seems like everything will be very expensive (which is another complaint I've heard)

So basically, you need to grind for materials then? I love that.

Do enemies spawn?

At the point I wouldn't be able to grind, but maybe.  The enemies show up on the "field" but it's not like you can sneak past them.  So far it looks like (and I've heard) all the battles you are forced into, and I haven't seen any of the enemies I've beaten "respawn" or anything but maybe that happens later ^^

i don't see why everyone is complaining, FF has always been easy.. mash confirm until everything is dead.

and 12 made it so you didn't even need to mash confirm.

In a situation like this, you're REALLY better off not listening to the internet for opinions on things, save for folks you can trust.

It only sucks because it was hyped to all hell for so long. I've seen bitching about the game for even the smallest details. It's like people were expecting this to renew the franchise in some way even though they should know better than to expect that when it was never going to do that.

It's funny too.  My one friend is kinda looking forward to it, but he loved 12 so much that he's afraid he won't like the new system as much.

I basically only knew it was called FFXIII and watched 2 or so trailers, that's it.  Maybe thats why I'm enjoying it as I didn't really know what to expect ^^  I'm something like 15-20 hours into it and still really enjoying it.  It's not all that hard, the battles are starting to take longer but I think it's cause I'm doing something wrong/not really leveling up weapons/accesories much o.o

That's pretty much me as well aside from trailers and small gameplay glimpses.  Experiencing the game for myself is always the best way I can say anything.  Which leads to why i'm not bitchy on most/all of the games I play.

I knew someone was going to ask that x3
Honestly I can't even really remember it, jus orchestrated type stuff, not bad but not really memorable
To me anyway ^^

I do miss the synth/organ type last boss music that even X had though

That's a bummer. Did any sidequests yet? Optional bosses?

Are some of the traditional bossfights back (Ultima/Omega Weapon)?

I've only done a few optional things, and I think there is more that unlocks when you save the clear data, I'll have to get back to you on that one~
As for Ultima/Omega... er... It's not big spoilers but I'll tag it anyway
Ultima and Omega Weapon are the names of Lightnings 2nd and 1st most powerful weapons, I have no idea if they are bosses but one of the optional sidequest things are "missions" to fight harder enemies, so they could one of those ^^  There's also regular enemies that kinda look like them so I really wouldn't doubt it
