Title: Steven Universe: The Crystal Thread
Post by: Quickman on August 05, 2016, 07:48:19 PM
We need a thread for this, considering yesterday was the 100th episode.
All caught up and HOLY [tornado fang]ing [parasitic bomb] Bismuth, that piledriver thing was waaaayyyy hardcore.  Good god, that made my chest hurt watching that.

That episode, though... This show is so good.  ALL OF MY FEEEEELLLLLS

That has one of the most heart-wrenching moments of Steven Universe yet. I can't help but imagine what it would be like if Homeworld were to discover something like that and integrate it with their tech. What if they were to make robots outfitted with pilebunkers?

Or if Bismuth were to meet reformed Homeworld Gems while toting that thing around.  RIP in [tornado fang]ing pieces, Peridot.
If it's concerning new episodes, most likely.  Though, if you wanna bring up stuff from other episodes, go for it.

We could post our Gemsonas here. 8D

See if it's on Dailymotion!  Oh my god, today's episode!  AAAAAA THE WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW IS GONNA BE SOOOOOO LOOOOONNNNNGGGGGG

In the meantime, I await Peridot's Twitter update.

Also...
It's nice to see Lapis and Peridot getting along.  They've grown so much and Peridot turned Lapis into Camp Pining Hearts trash~

GODDAMMIT I [tornado fang]ing CALLED IT! 8D But holy [parasitic bomb] I didn't expect things to from bad to way [tornado fang]ing worse for Jasper. That scene was intense.

Other than that, it's good to see them get along and try to put their depute a long time behind them.
She's poofed by Peridot.
Today's episode...
ROSE QUARTZ SHATTERED PINK DIAMOND WHAAAAAAAAT HOLY HELL YOU BADASS YOU SHATTERED A DIAMOND

STEVEN NOOOOOOOOOO
These cliffhangers are killing me! D:
My god. One part of me is like "Dayum, Rose, you're a bonafide badass to destroy on a DIAMOND!", the other part of me is "Did Rose really murder a gem? And if she did kill a gem, why did she kill Pink Diamond?"

And Steven... poor Steven... is he going to last in space considering he's half gem?
I have a theory...
I was thinking about this last night and I had a feeling that Rose shattered Pink Diamond. Judging from the convo that she had with Greg when they tried to fuse, my guess is that it was over a human she loved.

I have a feeling that the corruption was due to Jasper fusing with a corrupted Gem.  Amethyst's warning to Steven treats it more like a disease than a mental condition.  So, if you don't practice safe fusion, you'll get an FTD.
Title: Re: Steven Universe: The Crystal Thread
Post by: Quickman on August 11, 2016, 08:24:49 AM
So, continuing from Back to the Moon, Steven was blown out into space.  He awoke in a bubble, spinning on a trajectory that took him farther and farther away from Earth.  He eventually smashes into Eyeball and the two have some discourse, with Eyeball talking about Rose and how everything the Crystal Gems do is trickery.  Steven is trying to convince her that he is Rose.

Their trajectory takes them through an asteroid field and they bounce around, with a rock cracking Eyeball right in the gem, which cracked.  She's knocked out, and Steven brings her into his bubble, where he heals her cracked gem and she finally realizes that yes, Steven is (partly) Rose Quartz.

So, Eyeball snaps.  Her mission, as she's the oldest Ruby of the Ruby Squad, was to track down Rose and shatter her for shattering Pink Diamond.  As they struggle, Steven is trying to convince Eyeball that he wasn't the one who did it, that he isn't like his mother, which confuses and enrages Eyeball even more.  Finally, Steven releases his bubble, Eyeball flies off into space, and Steven encapsulates himself, alone.

As he drifts, his bubble shrinks and he curls up, knowing that he will die out there...

The Roaming Eye finds him, pulls him in, and he awakes in the arms of his three moms.  On their way back to Earth, Steven asks for confirmation, disbelieving that his mother, Rose Quartz, could ever shatter a Diamond.  How could his loving mother, whom Pearl had gushed endlessly over, how could that big soft belly Gem kill another Gem?  Perhaps it was an accident...

Garnet, however, confirmed that it was no accident.  That Rose shattered Pink Diamond on purpose.  That it was necessary to protect the Earth.

The trip to Earth continues in silence.
And now... for a fridge logic tangent!
For Steven to be blown off of the Moon and into space, he would need to achieve escape velocity.  Lunar escape velocity is 2.4 km/s (1.5 m/s).  In order for Steven to be thrown into space, he would need to be traveling 5,400 mph!

The force necessary to send him flying into space, which was mostly a sudden drop in atmospheric pressure from the airlock, and a whack out the door (which wouldn't be enough to reach escape velocity), would be so great as to cause Steven to explode.

At most, Steven would bounce away from the base for several miles until gravity took over.
Title: Re: Steven Universe: The Crystal Thread
Post by: Protoman Blues on August 11, 2016, 08:26:45 AM
Basically, Garnet and Pearl confirmed that Rose did indeed shatter Pink Diamond due to the war, saying she didn't have a choice. They'll probably delve more into that next season, since according to the Wiki, that was the end of Season 3.

What I really find interesting about the end of this is that the Crystal Gems now have a functioning spaceship. So that could mean they're eventually going to Homeworld soon. Or other colonies.
Because they're rabid Amedot shippers and since Lapidot is kinda-sorta canon, it got their panties in a twist and they started sending Zuke death threats.

It's time for some science!
According to Peridot, she is durable and doesn't poof easily.  Peridot gemstones are durable and hard, however they can be scratched on the surface.  So, after that romp in the Beta Kindergarten, Peridot would be reasonably scratched up, but otherwise intact.

Peridot gemstones, however, have a brittle tenacity.  They cannot handle stress or tension settings and will burst.  When setting a peridot in a ring, you don't want to put too much stress on the stone.  Peridot can be poofed by either squeezing or pulling her body, which applies that high tension stress and causes her to burst.

So, even though we've seen many times Peridot get crushed, thrown around, dropped from great heights, punched, and smashed in the ground and barely bat an eye, it's when there's stress applied to her body that hurts her.  Garnet squeezed her and she poofed.  When Steven and Amethyst were pulling on her, she almost poofed because she's too brittle to handle tension.

So, the cartoon logic makes sense for Peridot.
The care and feeding of your Peridot includes gentle warm baths with mild soap and a soft washcloth.  Make sure to rinse and towel her dry to remove soap residue.  Afterward, wrap your Peridot in a soft blanket to avoid scratches.  Keep her out of direct sunlight and avoid temperature extremes and your Peridot will last a long time.

The care and feeding of your Pearl: Do not keep your Pearl with other Gems, as they may scratch her.  Do not submerse her in water. To clean your Pearl, gently wipe her down with water and soap. Rinse her and dry her thoroughly.  To prevent scratches, wrap her in a soft blanket.

If your Malachite gets dirty, you may bathe her, but only in cold water.  Make sure to dry her thoroughly.  Malachite does not like heat, acid, or hot water, so take care to avoid exposure.  Malachite is gentle and requires a gentle cleaning with only soap and a soft cloth.

If your Malachite becomes dull, you can restore her polish by rubbing her briskly with wood.

If anyone saved the codes of their Gems, we can use the generator's fusion feature to see/predict the results. ^^

I didn't know there were codes...

I'll have to remake mine.

The Codes only really work for Body Types, it doesn't save clothes, color, hair styles, or accessories.

On that note here's mine.

I'm kinda having a hard time coming up with mine. I want mine to be an Amethyst, though I want to try to see if I can get some kind of shorts and thigh-high combo going on.

-EDIT-
Wait, found something that looks like shorts.

Has anyone else taken up an interest in rock collecting (or rekindled an old collection) because of SU? My old rock collection is seeing new life lately and I've been collecting native minerals to add to it, as well as frequenting gem shops.

I brought home another bismuth (a pretty blue specimen), a bag of baby garnets (they were a dime each and I got five), and had my locally-collected rock identified.

On my windowsill is a rose quartz crystal cluster I found at a creek.
