Title: E3 2014 Megathread.
Post by: Police Girl on May 31, 2014, 08:03:14 AM

So yeah E3's coming up soon (June 9th-12th). Figured its time for a thread.

The major press conferences are on June 9th, with Nintendo forgoing that for a Direct on the 10th much like last year, hopefully they'll not [tornado fang] the streaming up so much again.

(http://i40.tinypic.com/2vbooll.png)E3 Event Schedule(http://i40.tinypic.com/2vbooll.png)

(All times are Pacific Time Zone and Tentative.)
Microsoft's conference is June 9th at 9:30 AM.
Sony's is June 9th at 6PM.
Nintendo Direct is June 10th at 9AM.

Apparently IGN's got a list of what's going down for the entire show. Which is in the spoiler underneath because its a long list that mostly consists of 'Secret E3 Game'.

EDIT: Main conferences are over. Highlights of each will be below.

Microsoft:

EA:

Ubisoft:

Sony:

Nintendo:
-Smash 3DS planned for October 3rd, 2014. Wii U still set for the holidays, Palutena and Mii fighters (In Brawler, Sworduser and Gunner varieties) revealed. Maybe Dark Pit as well, but that might've just been a stinger
-New Star Fox in development. Still a ways off.
-Yarn Yoshi is now Yoshi's Wooly World, set for 2015.
-Bayonetta 2 comes with an enhanced port of Bayonetta 1, out in the fall.
-X is now Xenoblade Chronicles X (Real creative name there.), 2015.
-Kirby and the Rainbow Curse shown off, basically a sequel to Canvas Curse.
-Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, a full game based off of the Captain Toad levels in Super Mario 3D World, announced for Holiday 2015.
-Some more footage for Pokemon ORAS. But we already knew these games were coming.
-Zelda Wii U shown off, no title, 2015 is the broad date, planned for more open world exploration. Link's not wearing Green in the video we saw.
-Hyrule Warriors is coming out in September. Zelda and Midna added to the roster.
-Splatoon, a team-based shooter type game revolving around paint and squids, is planned for 2015.
-Amiibo, the NFC figures that were mentioned a while back and were rumored for use in Smash Bros., will indeed launch with Smash Bros. 4 Wii U that allow for storing custom movesets and NPC characters to fight. Are also planned for use in other games later on (Mario Kart 8 was mentioned.)
-Mario Maker, a Mario level creation/editor tool/game, is scheduled for the Wii U in 2015. Game allows usage of either NES Super Mario Bros tiles and New Super Mario Bros. U tiles.

Also, if you're leaking a document... why would you show your hands?

The Legend of Zelda: Unbound King would be the obvious guess.

As for me, I'm equally excited for both that and SMT X Fire Emblem. <3

I'm going to bet its a fraudulent thing.
Here's another thing that might be fraudulent, but if its legit probably invalidates that image.

Mario Maker might be cool, but someone pointed out that the hand is identical to one in promo images for Nintendo Land's Balloon Trip Breeze.

The paper seems like it might be more legit than the Mario Maker thing...

I'd love to know whatever the hell 'Nintendo U' is then.

And Wii U HD games? Sunshine I could see since they'd need to change the controls for it to work anyway seeing as it used the analog triggers on the Gamecube. But Wave Race not so much.

Since Sony's is 6PM Pacific (9PM for eastern) I might be able to catch that one.

If anybody wants to cover Erractic Assholes and Ubisoft's conferences be my guest. They're not really that important compared to the console companies but whatever maybe they'll have something interesting.

Nintendo U is the apparent codename for Nintendolanders Infinity, AKA the game that will largely utilize the NFC figurines Nintendo announced in a similar vein to Skylanders and Disney Infinity.

I guess if you can't sell units, sell Action Figures to those who already have it.

What I'd be interested in knowing is how the demographic is split for the WiiU user base. Particularly how much of the user base is actually the established older Nintendo fans.

Too bad Nintendo doesn't show up in person at E3 anymore, otherwise they would do that for half an hour so you can get your data.

They still do it for private meetings with publishers. They go pretty far out with it, renting a hall and everything. It's like a mini-e3 press conference. I'm just not with a publisher now, so I can't attend them anymore. :( Oh well.

Yeah, having actual, you know, COLOR in the game was a big plus for me as well. Must say, Halo 2 multiplayer screens brought back some fun memories for me. Not enough to make me want an XBOne over a PS4, but still pretty nice.

Nice to see Mighty No. 9 during the indie games montage. WE DID IT!  8D

I think that somebody should really tell Microsoft that Call of Duty comes out on other consoles as well and they don't need to waste E3 time on it even if Activision's giving them money for it because it'll sell even if its called "Call of Duty: Screaming Baby."

It wasn't too bad compared to their previous conferences, which were much worse. Aisha Tyler (she voices Lana from Archer) is a [tornado fang]ing pro, as usual. She carried the show well. Even when she said something awkward, she smoothly transitioned to a joke that made everyone laugh.

Then again, she is an actress, so it's no wonder why she's so comfortable around that huge crowd. As for the games, though, they weren't too impressive.

Ubisoft's conference wasn't terrible (besides Let's Dance and that stupid Fitness game). It was nothing special, yes, but it was mostly tolerable thanks to Aisha. People are overreacting. I can't comment on EA's conference, as I didn't see it.

Anyway, there isn't much to talk about in the games department, as far as Ubi is concerned. Far Cry 4, Valiant Hearts and Assassin's Creed Unity are the only things worth mentioning.

And of those three, AC is the only one that had a demo showing. So, yeah, nothing special and you're not missing anything.

- The Order gameplay is next

-Now a game called Entwined
- An artistic racing type game

- Giant Squid is a new studio, making a tranquil aquatic game called Abzu

- No Man's Sky
- A very vibrant game, you can explore various planets
- Looks quite nice, and it certainly looks vast
- You can ride vechiles and ships, going out into space or exploring the land and discover wildlife.

Ubisoft will catch my attention if they make another Rayman game, but other than that I could care less about what they're spitting out.

Were you expecting actual combat, rather than Batmobile gameplay?

Also, I have to say Scarecrow "hacking" into the footage was nicely done.

The announcement of a Grim Fandago remake gives me some better hope for LucasArts titles living on since the Disney wipe.
Jedi Knight III some day.. please? I can dream.
I may nab it some time since I know a few too many people that worship it enough to persuade me.

Uncharted 4 actually surprises me a bit, given how ND likes to do things in 3s. Looks like the big finale though anyway.

Other than that I paid 0 attention to everything today. Though I mostly blame connection and data usage issues for that.

I wonder if they will convince my brother to get a PS4.  On the one hand I hope it doesn't since I really want him to get a 3DS so he can stop borrowing mine and I can use it to trade Pokemon.  On the other hand he said he heard rumors of Europe getting a PS Vita and PS4 bundle so if we get that here I'll get a Vita.

Fully agreed.

I'm not sure what I was expecting, to be honest. The Batmobile stuff was alright I guess, although the traversal part was more interesting than the tank combat that felt out of place somehow.

The city looked empty again though aside from a few random cars, which... doesn't feel right I guess? Unless they're going for a No Man's Land type of deal, which is highly possible I suppose.

I did like Scarecrow's design though.

I second this. I could get lost in a game like that for an exceeding amount of time.

Also, liked the flow of Batman where you can call the Batmobile instantly from anywhere, and you can LAUNCH out of the Batmobile back to being airborne. There is no slowing down, its a really nice pace.

Though I think the designs are getting really silly now. Batman looks more like Ironman in a Batman themed armor. The Batmobile looks almost like a parody design. There may not be neon lights and armor nipples, but I am starting to get about the same feeling from this game as the Schumacher Batman movies.

Well, the city is empty because they don't want Batman running over civilians. I liked the tank combat, though I suppose it is a little odd to see Batman go on an ironic shooting spree. Perhaps it was bit uncharacteristic of him, and that's what felt out of place to you.

DETAILS ON NEW STAR FOX!!! (http://www.gonintendo.com/s/230333-full-details-on-miyamoto-s-starfox-project-gameplay-info-miyamoto-commentary-due-out-within-a-year)

Quote
Quotes in this article come from Shigeru Miyamoto...

- GamePad screen used for a first-person cockpit view
- third-person behind-the-Arwing-fighter view on the TV
- views can be swapped
- look in any direction to shoot

"Before, in the N64 [game's] levels, when we had these valley modes, it was difficult to play those levels because the aiming was synced to the movement of the ship. So, as you were trying to aim, the movement of the ship was flying around within the valley. But now what we're able to do with the Wii U GamePad is, because the ship can move independently of your aiming, it makes it much more interesting and much more fun to play these valley modes where you're flying the ship but simultaneously aiming at a lot of different things in the level."

- one mode includes simple arena combat
- fight alongside allies Slippy and Falco
- push the joystick in to transform into a tank
- another mode puts you up against Star Wolf
- third mode has you flying around a cityscape with a giant monster
- this mode features a helicopter with rotors
- press the right stick in to drop a robot that can shoot or drive
- the robot is tethered to Fox's ship
- when the robot drops, the GamePad view switches from the aircraft's cockpit to the robot's perspective
- collectible tokens are on the roofs of the buildings

"We're in an era when people have a limited amount of time… to play these long story-based games, so there will be a story for the game, but you'll be able to choose the missions you want to play."

- arena-like missions and "valley" missions
- game is set to be released within a year
- seeking dev partners to work on the project with

"The way I design games is I start by experimenting with different aspects and play styles. Once we have that laid out and understood we go in and build the graphics [around it]. We've been working on a number of different games that use the GamePad as the focus of the gameplay. Among the games we were working on, this was one of them. But originally we weren't targeting E3 as the announcement time for the Star Fox game. But in developing it, we really came to like it and I also wanted to motivate ourselves to complete the game as quickly as possible. So we brought it here to E3 to announce it to give us that motivation."

I haven't been paying direct attention to E3, but my understanding is that Nintendo basically won.

Not for me, they didn't.

As [tornado fang]ing awesome as the new Zelda game, Captain Toad and Palutena look, it wasn't enough. And Hyrule Warriors is Dynasty Warriors, so absolutely no challenge to it. It's just nice to look at.

Now, if they actually showed extensive Zelda gameplay, that probably would've sealed the deal for me. Especially since there was no Uncharted gameplay, Nintendo could have killed it.

Anyway, just my opinion. I'm leaning towards Sony, this year.

Jeez Little Mac is a Little Monster, and that Zero Suit Samus player was lucky as hell and skilled.

Yoshi and Xenoblade, awesomeness.  Bayonetta 2 including the first, great news, not sure if that game is my cup of tea or not but it does look interesting.

Hyrule Warriors.  Midna is playable.

Yoshi, Kirby, Bayonetta, Xenoblade didn't do anything for you either?

Yoshi and Kirby? Not that excited about them. I'm getting a major "been there, done that" vibe from Yoshi, especially.

As for Bayonetta, I've always been interested in playing the first game. Not really feeling the sequel, however. I mean, it looks fun, but... I dunno, a lot of other E3 reveals piqued my interest more.

Xenoblade looks really cool, but I very much wanted to see the Mech battles, most of all. I can't be the only person who feels this way.

With Kirby I get it since its basically Canvas Curse but Kirby games are almost always solid gold so it'll still be a good game.
Yoshi at least looks FAR better than that [parasitic bomb] 3DS game. the game has... heart? Doesn't look like it was made in the plastic factory and its just beautiful.

Bayonetta, well the original game's going to be included now so rent it maybe?

Xenoblade I'm just more interested in seeing gameplay in general. I just want it to not be as tiring as the first game was.

I guess neither of you watched the Nintendo Treehouse live stream. That's what I was referring to when I was talking about the Xenoblade playthrough failing to show Mech gameplay. They played the game for about an hour, but it was entirely ground combat.

And yeah, pretty much anything looks better than Yoshi 3DS. I'm not saying I wouldn't play Yoshi or Kirby at some point, but they just didn't hype me up like Zelda and the others.

I was working. And I don't really like watching people play games for long periods of time. Especially when it comes to stuff like this, they almost always pick the most incompetent people to play games. I just want to see like a sizzle reel of gameplay.

Nintendo teases more options coming for Mario Maker.  According to Tezuka, there will definitely be more visual styles than just SMB1/NSMBU.  They are HOPING for, but have not yet confirmed, adding assets from other franchises, and a music composer similar to Mario Paint.

I mean, Gumas and Deathknockers throw their weapons just like Hammer Bros (like, same arcs and everything) so there's that. Hell, one of the Remix challenges in NES Remix 2 pits Link against a Hammer Bro, and it's just like fighting a Guma or Deathknocker.
