I was looking for April Fools stuff earlier tonight, but I completely forgot about checking out [adult swim]'s antics. Maybe cause they did the same thing for 3 years prior. The Room is fun and all, but come on. I actually caught this stuff on accident. I flip the channel the wrong way and I see Cell and Gohan in a Kamehameha struggle. I was like "What?" and then I was like "Oh." And then I see the new bumps and TOM and I'm like "OH [parasitic bomb]!"

They're showing Outlaw Star right now. Funny cause I just finished rewatching the series recently. That PG rating is bullshit; it's still the TV version. And the DVDs should be TV-14 at the least. There's boobs in this show occasionally, you know.

Damn, and I got off my Xbox to see what [adult swim] was showing tonight at 2:00 AM and I was like "WHAT?! TOONAMI ON MIDNIGHT?!? AND NOT THAT STUPID-LOOKING TOM (but not the way old one either)?! [tornado fang], HOW DID I MISS THIS?". Funny how they advertise the DVD for Outlaw Star to see the series uncut. Thankfully I have the western time for Cartoon Network with Dish, so I'll stay up to see what I missed at 3:00 AM (hopefully I don't dose off later in the evening).

Least there's always Toonami Aftermath to remind us of the good times of CN...

-EDIT-
Blue Submarine No. 6, too? Now that's "Once-in-a-blue-moon" among animes that Cartoon Network ever aired.

-EDIT 2-
Yep, pixeled the nudity of Tenchi Muyo. I'm guessing the same is gonna happen with Blue No. 6 with Mutio.

-EDIT 3-
And I was right about the censorship with Blue Sub No. 6 too just as it aired on Toonami ages ago.

Toonami... how I missed you. :'(
I miss the DBZ opening but I got to see the rest!

A rush of nostalgia hit me... oh how I wish Toonami to come back for good! And I miss Tom 3.0, he has the best appearance of Tom ever! Never really understood the Tom 4.0 look that reminded me of that train character.

Best April Fool's Day special ever... :'(
This day make the whole year of 2012 special to me.

Not sure how many people are Twitter users here, but this (http://twitter.com/#!/adultswim/status/187004036824834049) is still rather big.

And this (http://twitter.com/#!/adultswim/status/187653853339074560) is the follow-up.

They've mentioned it a few times in their bumps too.

This one in particular (http://www.bumpworthy.com/bumps/4846)
And this one. (http://www.bumpworthy.com/bumps/4839)
What could this mean? an actual revival on [as] or just a mean joke?

FMA, Brotherhood, [chameleon sting]ing FLCL, GiTS and Cowboy Bebop (never watched Bebop or GiTS, but I heard they're amazing). Looks like an awesome lineup to me. Bleach is easily the least interesting thing there, and more FMA is always great.

They could have flooded it with Naruto like the last time Toonami was still broadcasting. Thankfully, they didn't.

Its just the normal line up with 200% more bleach than before.
Maybe this means they will have 3 new episodes a night as opposed to just one, get the damn thing over with quicker.

We can thank Disney for preventing such a horrible disease.

Ah, looking at the internet Schedule, there is only three hours of Toonami (The late hours, naturally), And its just Bleach, FMA:B, and Cowboy Bebop repeated twice. So its probably just a filler schedule.

Link here. (http://www.adultswim.com/schedule/index.html) Hopefully it isn't so much comedy in the real deal, would be quite a shame for them to [tornado fang] this up.

Yeah, the schedule they have up on the site is filler.
Williams Street is keeping it secret till the 26th. As they say "Old School TV Style"

No longer true as the people in charge changed that.

Relevant Tweets involving Toonami straight from the horse's mouth:

Quote

Okay guys! About to start the info dump. Regular Twitter friends: I apologize in advance for clogging your feed.

So: New Toonami! First things first. For now, that IS the schedule. I know I said we wouldn't tell you, but the higher ups changed that.

We will not be showing Naruto, DBZ, etc for now. The rights to those shows are owned by our competition or are out of our price range.

SPEAKING OF WHICH: Something you should know about THIS Toonami: We have very, very little $$. This experiment will need ratings success...

...to receive more funding for new shows, more Tom animation, etc. I'm thankful for the $$ we've gotten, but it isn't a lot.

Toonami will have to prove itself to get more resources, just like it had to do when we first launched.

TOM: Will be voiced as always by Steve Blum. Who is doing it for love. Just like we are. Tom will be an updated hi-res version of Tom 3.0.

The Absolution will be a slightly different but almost identical version of the one from the Tom 3.0 era as well.

There will be no SARA for now. She costs too much to make. But if we can bring her back, we sure will.

We will try to have some new content each week- game reviews, music videos, content pieces etc. As much as we can afford and make.

Music: Music will come from a number of places: Ghostly, Warp Records, Victory Records, Now Again records, as well as...

...friends of ours like therealelp, flyinglotus, Chris Devoe, Ben Burton, and many others. No, we won't be using JBV.

Peter Cullen will NOT be the voice of the promos. He's busy with Transformers and Eeyore and doesn't do many promos. Love you Peter!

Schedule again: you are all entitled to your opinions, but we feel good about it. And yes, Kim Manning is programming it. Love you Kim!

Lastly, just want to say thank you to all who have supported and brought it back. If you can KEEP supporting us, we will have more $$...

...which means more shows, more Tom footage, Sara, etc. SO THANK YOU. And keep it up!

And one last thing: this is my only Twitter account, and I'm considering going private, so don't take it personal. It's getting too crazy.

That's it for now! I will answer GOOD questions for the rest of today. Fire away if you're not stupid. If you are... shhhhhh

Oh, and schedule was updated, looks like we're getting Casshern Sins and Deadman Wonderland.

^Cool to know!

I never seen or heard Casshern Sins and Deadman Wonderland so this will be interesting to see. I bet that Bleach and FMA:B will still be around that time, seeing as they're big name animes... hopefully a few others as well.

Definitely going to show the New Toonami when it comes out! I'm supporting this guys from bringing it back! T_T

They've stated that Bleach and FMA:B will be the only Adult Swim Action Programs left intact (At the moment.)
Anywho, those of us in the US with Cable should tune-in, regardless if you don't care about Toonami, what it needs now is fan support.
Fan support will get us new shows, new bumps, more TOM, etc.

I'm personally intrested in seeing Casshern, though I will give Deadman Wonderland a look.

Wow they're bringing Casshern, I've always wanted to see that anime, Deadman Wonderland, however sounds really really gruesome from what I've read. I don't know what to think about that and it could be nightmare inducing since it's late at night, not sure I want to watch that.  I hope this succeeds because I've missed Toonami and honestly except for Durarara, which I believe is over, Adult Swim became boring with the reruns and Bleach.  I like FLCL and Cowboy Bebop but it's nice to see some new things now.

Casshern Sins is [tornado fang]ing amazing. Deadman Wonderland is fairly interesting at the beginning, but falls completely flat at the ending. Easily one of the worst conclusions I've seen in an anime IMO. It begs for a second season to clear up everything, a lot of things are left unexplained.

Toonami is on with Deadman Wonderland and Casshern Sins on the line-up. Funny how I saw the episode of Nurse Witch Komugi where Komugi gets killed off and she became a ghost, and she was fighting Koyori (HAWTNESS), she cosplayed the Casshern from the original series. XD

I'd say we have a better than never chance of seeing it on weekdays again, but it all depends on viewership in its current state. A 1% chance is better than none at all.

FLCL is coming in to replace Ghost in the Shell after its run finishes up.

Not exactly a big deal since it has also been run to death, but its only 6 episodes, so chances are its just a placeholder for the slot, which they will probably use to re-run Deadman once it wraps up. No clues to what the next new series they will air is.

Samurai 7 heads to Toonami August 18th after Deadman Wonderland finishes.

Not exactly Toonami related but Deadman Wonderland hits US DVD October 9th.

Bebop is out (finally). Eureka Seven returns next week at 1:30.

Posted on: August 12, 2012, 08:13:33 PM
I'm kind of the only one in this thread anymore, but I guess I can put out a few updates.

Starting October 6th Toonami expands to 6 hours, dropping the repeat block, though it just appears this will be used for hour-long blocks of FMA:B, GitS, and Bebop at the moment.
Once this begins Toonami will also start showing Sym-Bionic Titan and 2011 Thundercats as a way to diversify the block, making these the second and third CN series to be shown during the [as] hours (The first being Clone Wars.)

Casshern Ended last week.

Next week Tenchi Muyo joins the Lineup, GitS goes away for now. And Inuyasha comes back to haunt the graveyard hour.

Also, Robot shows get sent to the second half of the non-repeat lineup.

12:00 Bleach
12:30 Tenchi Muyo GXP (Its not on the schedule yet but it was announced in the last promo)
1:00 Samurai 7
1:30 Thundercats 2011
2:00 Eureka 7
2:30 Sym-Bionic
3:00 Hour of FMA:B
4:00 Hour of Bebop
5:00 Hour of Inuyasha

Looking foward to Tenchi mainly because I was in my "I don't like action" phase when it was on TV.

Eureka 7 rocked. So does Thundercats. Too bad I don't have the time to watch much TV these days. It's either Youtube or DVR of Daily Show/Colbert for me.

I used to watch InuYasha and GiTS every time Adult Swim was on. Good times.

EVANGELION IS COMING BACK (Though just the Rebuild movies from what it looks like.)
ONE PIECE IS COMING BACK.

Though it should've come back in december instead of jumpsuit ninja chronicles, imo.

I'd rather Toonami not air Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece at all. Haven't we seen enough of it? Those anime are pretty much oversaturating the western Anime market as it is.

One Piece is actually good.

And its been sorely neglected. 4Kids' dub partly to blame, the good Funimation dub not getting much of a chance on TV. Really the only way to watch it is through the DVD's, and not everybody is willing to drop money on DVD sets.

I haven't seen One Piece on Toonami, thought I kinda forgot if they were airing the 4Kids' dub at the time or not (it's starting to come back to me though now thinking about the old TOM 4 days). I can handle less Naruto and Bleach is starting to get stale with me.

Damn you 4Kids for scaring me away from the series with your [acid burst]-poor localization and censorship! X(

Well I'll have to give the series a chance again when it shows up again.

No matter how good One Piece may be (Which it's really, no, it's not), those three anime are called the Big 3 for a reason. I'm sick of seeing them all over the place, and unfortunately, the cash cow those three are, they're not going anywhere. They're hurting the growth of other anime, because everyone goes on about those three and don't bother to watch anything else.

Sorry if I sound a little bit accusative with that but I'm running on 2-3 hours of sleep because I had to wade through two hours of Naruto, Bleach, Thundercats, and Sym-Bionic Titan reruns to watch any decent anime.

They're called 4Kids. They're a children's dubbing group. They dub anime for CHILDREN. If you don't like it, that's because you're not a CHILD.
Pointless hate.

No, it was the FUNimation dub.

They aired the 4Kids dub up until Skypiea, which obviously wasn't dubbed by 4Kids so they just swapped over to Funimation's dub.

So you "waded" through half the block on a day where an hour was cut out? Sym-Bionic too, so you obviously weren't watching that closely, just to watch reruns, Space Tenchi starring not tenchi, and Soul Eater?

Good job mate. Your name makes perfect [tornado fang]ing sense now.

Sick of seeing them all over the place? Just Bleach and Naruto are really plastered everywhere, I've not seen a lot of One Piece stuff since it stopped airing on TV. Maybe in Japan, but not here.
Hurting the growth of Anime, maybe because Niche series are just that, if you want to watch those nobody's stopping you, but don't expect your favorite show to become Mainstream in the US.
Because everybody goes on about those three? Nice Strawman. Nice Generalizations, 10/10 would admire your opinion again.
And also, opinions. I personally enjoy One Piece, it has something of a... fun value to it. None of the other Big Three have that, and hell, Bleach may as well not even be one anymore since its pretty much over. Just not in the US.

When they dub a series meant for a wider audience, this is to be expected.
When they take the advice of crazy soccer-moms who believe everything needs to be inoffensive and [parasitic bomb], you get 4Kids quality dubbing.
Then again we did get comic gold in the form of the Hammer gun whatever. But really, its a violent enough series that they shouldn't have tried their hand at it. Too much Blood and guns, Super Soakers aren't effective weapons and look silly.

Also made a few fixes, 4Kids is pretty much nonexistent now, they shut down their dubbing stuff and changed their company name even.

Raging isn't necessary.
I just went by what schedule I read online. I kept the TV off and did other things until something else came on according to the schedule. If they weren't airings something I thought they were, and I missed it, oh boy. Big deal. Turn TV off and get back to Thief. It's not really that big a problem.

I never said I expect the anime I like to become mainstream. In fact I'm incredibly pessimistic about it and DON'T expect anything besides the Big 3 to become popular in the US.

As for the 4Kids matter, I'm sorry if I haven't looked at what's on the CW at 8 AM in over four years. I literally was not aware of the name change or the fact they stopped dubbing.

Kinda is if you're trying to argue about something. Makes you look like you don't know what you're talking about.

Good, then you understand that you should just shut up and not care about what is popular unless you like it too.
Like everybody else in the world should be doing but isn't because "Baww muh favrits aren't on teevee"
Gotta understand, this is pretty much the thought process going through every company ever.
[youtube]JoYWdHe4tQ4[/youtube]
They don't care about what people really like, they'll listen to suggestions, and can sometimes go for things if popular opinion wants something, unfortunately, there was a vocal enough demand for Naruto and that is why it is on TV again. Because enough Horrible, awful, nasty Weaboo people spoke up to convince [as] that it would be profitable for them to air it again. Same goes for One Piece, granted its not always true, since the earlier shows were definitely experiments, but it didn't take them that long to bring in more that they knew would get people watching.

Some new stuff from Toonamis Tumblr.

Quote
ONE ANNOUNCEMENT TO RULE THEM ALL…And in the darkness, BIND THEM.

Hey guys! Below is the basic list of stuff we announced at Momocon.

1. In April (date tbd), we will premiere TOM 5, a new Absolution, and a new look for Toonami, including a new logo. Some of that stuff isn't ready yet, so keep checking this blog and we'll put up new stuff as we finish it. And no, still no Sara or Clydes… yet.
2. In the next couple of months we will premiere an online comic that will tell the story of How TOM 3 became TOM 4, how TOM 4 became TOM 3.5, where Sara and the Clydes are, and how we got TOM 5 and the new Absolution. We'll offer more details on that when we have them.
3. Toonami will air One Piece this year. We're not sure yet it if will replace Tenchi GXP or come in later, and we're not sure where we will start in the episode order. We'll let you know more in the coming months.
4. Next week, on Toonami's birthday, we will be showing Evangelion 1.11 You Are [Not] Alone. The following week our schedule will return to normal (sorry, Soul Eater/Eureka/Sym-Bionic fans!). Schedule is posted below, scroll down to see it.
5. We were not able to make a promo for the Eva movie for various reasons, but that's okay, we promise! It's just a birthday present, not part of a larger series of “movie nights.” We're still exploring that.
6. There will be a few other goodies airing on our birthday, so don't miss it! And no… NO HINTS. You gotta watch!
7. We are still exploring short series to air, short series fans, so we'll let you know if and when we have announcements in that area!
8. Video of the Toonami Momocon panel, as well as some interviews, were shot by the Toonami Faithful crew and will be up soon!
9. Thanks to Chad Bonin for inviting us to the panel, moderating and being a cool dude.
10. We love you!

April 27th is the date for the new look of Toonami.

Tenchi GXP ends on the 11th of May.

Posted on: April 07, 2013, 01:45:32 AM
Some more One Piece news just came out.

Begins the 18th of May at 1AM, they will NOT be starting from the beginning, instead we start at episode 207.

Probably for the best, seeing as the show is almost 600 [tornado fang]ing episodes long and we have plenty of episodes available on DVD.

So uh, good news for those who care not about any of the shonens, they're all in one nice block before everything else. Soul Eater will of course move to 1:30.

You will not regret it. If nothing else you could always buy the DVDs. Blu-ray for stunning quality.

4 seasons, around 24 episodes in each one.

The problem is they have other shows people have requested and they either say "We don't have the budget/Our competitors air that" (DBZ), "We don't want kids watching Toonami on [as] so no" (Samurai Jack), And various vague comments (PSG, TTGL.)

Just appease the fans by putting out shorter series that take less time to air and get through the requests as time goes on. Instead they waste [tornado fang]ing time with two shitty long-runners (Bleach still has like another year and their insistance on starting Orange Jumpsuit Chronicles at the beginning makes it already go for 4 years.) I don't mind One Piece since that one is actually pretty good at keeping the story interesting and the filler isn't some nonsensical bullshit like Bleach's "Ichigo? Who's that lets have a story about Rangiku's cleavage or something" or Naruto's "Oh hey go do some missions or whatever". And they started it at a decent spot to be ahead of the DVD's and in newer territory to the US instead of starting at the beginning.

It would be nice of them to put the beginning stuff on Weekdays though but [as] hates the concept of Anime on Weekdays anymore it seems so that's not gonna happen.

Yeah he didn't explain the whole story. That quote is from Chapter 16.5, taking place shortly after chapter 16. Yes. It was written by the actual LN writer. But it was uploaded privately onto the writer's website and I believe it was taken down shortly after. It's completely optional to read and you can enjoy the story without having to read the sex scene. It was never animated.

As for the two years worth of semen thing... It makes a little more sense in context.

Really, the first half of SAO is incredibly enjoyable. The ALO arc was very lackluster though and I had to force myself through the entire second half of the anime.

I'm amazed the rights haven't been lost yet.

They lost the rights to air Thundercats, which I still find amazing that a channel owned by Time-Warner can lose the broadcast rights to a show created for said network by another company owned by Time-Warner.

Yet Star Wars is owned by Disney and is miraculously still hanging around.

Hey cool some actual Toonami News other than FLCL came back (Its probably gone again now though)

Quote
BIG HONKIN’ TOONAMI ANNOUNCEMENT!
Hey everybody! Just wanted to drop you all a line and announce a couple pieces of Toonami news.

First, we are proud to announce that Toonami will be WORLD PREMIERING the new series from Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo) and Studio BONES (FMA, Soul Eater, many more), SPACE DANDY! SPACE DANDY is a 26 episode series that will be premiering in the U.S. BEFORE it premieres in Japan (yep, you read that right)! Details on that to follow soon.

[youtube]XoZ2udQkr3c[/youtube]

Oh, and when will it premiere? Sooner than you think- January 4th, at 11:30 PM.

"Did I just read 11:30?"

Yep, you read that right. Space Dandy will kick off an expanded 6-1/2 HOUR TOONAMI broadcast every Saturday. Toonami Faithful, we got our extra half hour!

Oh, you're STILL not satisfied? Fine. We have some other great news that will be coming in the next few weeks, but until then we'll drop one more little tidbit: In December, Toonami will take a break from our regular schedule and have a bit of holiday fun, with three weeks in a row of a movie special to kick off the block! What movies, you ask? Well, you'll have to wait a bit on that.

Finally- if you have more questions about all this, GOOD- ask them here! We'll be doing our monthly Toonami Q&A this Sunday from 11am et, to whenever we hit the tumblr post limit! Remember, your question could end up on our monthly on-air Tumblr Q&A session with Tom and Sara.

WHEW- okay. Keep your eyes locked right here over the next few weeks for more details on all of this, as well as some other VERY exciting developments we can't talk about yet. And in the mean time, do make sure you check us out on November 2nd, when we'll be airing some fun little surprises in the daylight savings hour (2am)!

WE WILL NEVER STOP!!

Love,
The Toonami Crew.

They air FLCL like once a year. It's tradition, I suppose.

I believe [as] said it was their favorite anime and that they're never letting it go.

At least they don't run it into the ground like Bebop.

So I wouldn't expect Bebop to come back on anytime soon, apparently [as] lost the rights finally, not surprising seeing as it was licensed by Bandai and such.

They're gonna try and get them back apparently, and next time it'll be the remastered version instead. (http://toonami.tumblr.com/post/62615877598/did-you-lose-the-rights-to-cowboy-bebop-or-will-it)

Didn't Disney Channel had Shippuden before? Regardless, Toonami is obsessed with Naruto. Why can't we have more interesting ninja anime on Toonami?

Didn't Disney Channel had Shippuden before?

Disney XD did, but they didn't want it anymore and let the rights expire.

I'm at least happy they're letting the original series go away. Otherwise it'd be Naruto Overkill and people wouldn't really like that.

Well, except for people who think it's the absolute paragon of [tornado fang]ing anime or something.

12/7- AKIRA- Yup. The most influential anime film of all time is coming to Toonami and kicking off a month of movies. That promo will be something to see, we're tellin’ ya. By the way, the 25th anniversary remastered Blu-Ray was just released by our friends at Funimation, and man. It's gorgeous.

12/14- SUMMER WARS- directed by Mamoru Hosoda, this modern classic is something we've had our eye on for a while. We think you'll love it!

12/21- FULL METAL ALCHEMIST- THE CONQUEROR OF SHAMBALLA- FMA fans know how great this gem is. And so do we. Produced by Bones, the same studio who will be bringing you SPACE DANDY in January!

12/28- TRIGUN: BADLAND RUMBLE- Trigun is back where he belongs on Adult Swim, in a special one off adventure.

And that's not all! We'll also be doing a TOONAMI T-SHIRT GIVEAWAY for the whole month of December, AND you might see some interesting things happening with TOM and the Absolution!

Speaking of movies, I wish Toonami would start the "Month of Miyazaki" again.

It would also give them a chance to air the newer films like Arrietty.

I think the problem there is them having to get the rights to air them from disney.

Would Disney really have a problem with that, though? I wouldn't imagine they would.

On a side note, surely they could've picked a better movie than Badland Rumble. It was mediocre at best. Same (arguably) goes for Conqueror of Shamballa. Though I did enjoy it more than Badland.

The bad part of the show is that it is a mediocre show being marketed and publicized as the second coming of Christ. To anyone familiar with Anime, it is very shlocky, by-the-numbers, and a cesspool of bad anime tropes; yet people think its the best thing ever. Look at the fan base, the merchandising, the mechanical mainstream appeal. All the stereotypes that this show affirms to the general populace of what anime is is what tears it for people like me, those who vouches that anime is just as viable of a media format as movies, books, and live-action TV.

Schedule changes:

Inuyasha is going away forever. Sym-Bionic Titan is taking its place starting March 8th, how fitting that the last show in the [as] airtime right before Cartoon Network is a Cartoon Network show.

DST is cutting GitS and FMA:B from the schedule, so all the first-run stuff will be alright so Black Lagoon will still premiere on the 22nd. Don't see why they wouldn't cut some of the noted filler like Clone Wars or Uncut Nurutu but whatever I'm not an expert at these things.

Its not even worth mentioning because the show is [parasitic bomb], but Shitgeki no Titanus is coming to Toonami (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-04-12/attack-on-titan-to-run-on-adult-swim-toonami-block), which thanks to its airing of Orange Jumpsuit Ninja Chronicles: The Revenge and Bladed Weapon Talents Offline is now the number one house of Entry-Level junk.

Oh and Space Dandy comes back in the Summer for Season 2. Which is a much better show and you should all watch that instead.

Yes, that's why I said it's coming back for Season 2 in the Summer.

And really my whole schtick with renaming series is based off of synonyms unless its something like Naruto where there's nothing else I could possibly call it, in which case I resort to the stupid rewrite.

Quote
The surname "Uzumaki" is a pun on "spiral" (渦巻), because it refers to a three-dimensional spiral, like a whirlpool or vortex. "Uzumaki" can also mean "whirlpool", in reference to the Naruto whirlpools (鳴門の渦潮), named after the city of Naruto.

If I recall, it's also a representation of how chakra appears inside one's body. It swirls around.

Bumpity Bumpity Bump.

A Tick on Tightness is starting tomorrow, starring everybody's favorite Kirito as Main Character #21329.

And they're bringing DBZ back....

but just for a movie, which is Cooler's Revenge. I never watched DBZ past a certain point so I don't really know who Cooler is and why they're having their revenge.
Title: Re: TOONAMI IS ON RIGHT [tornado fang]ing NOW

Cooler is Frieza's older brother (DBZ names are so punny, aren't they?) and visits Earth after hearing of Frieza's demise. He heard that he was killed by a Saiyan, and claimed that Frieza had dishonored their family name by being defeated by such a race.

His revenge is to kill Goku, the Saiyan who bested his brother, and regain the family's honor.

At 98 episodes currently it'll still take two years to get through, and they're adding more to that so yeah.

But its still strange, I thought Nickelodeon had the TV rights for Kai? And I thought [as] didn't want it to air because they didn't want to have kids watch Toonami because its on a different channel that's targeted towards kids (Though same excuse happened with Samurai Jack and they went and put that on anyway, and then went along and put other recycled kids stuff on there too.)

Well, at least its Kai they got instead of classic flavor DBZ.

Apparently they've also got the rights back for Bebop so that'll be coming back, not in HD right away but eventually.

I guess somewhere along the line they mentioned that they were "Looking into" Kill La Kill. Though I honestly thought that was on the "We're never [tornado fang]ing airing these please stop bugging us about it." list along with PSG and probably a few other series.

Beware the Batman and Sym-Bionic Titan have apparently been "written off" by CN's Legal department.

So this week they're going to wrap up the remaining episodes of Batman (There's like 6) instead of airing the repeat block or Hellsing.
Which means when the block returns to normal the following week, Space Dandy will take its slot as a rerun slot.

That changes the original plan they had, where Dandy would leave off with the boring CGI Star Wars into purgatory, SAC 2nd Gig and Big O Season 2 are coming back again, Hellsing is having an extra long episode at the beginning of October (90 minutes) so Big O will take a break then.

Bleach is finally diluted in November, which everybody presumes will be where DBZ Kai will go.

Same with Thundercats.

Didn't care for Clone Wars and never watched Batman so not really caring about the removal of those. I imagine this is glorious news to the people who absolutely despise having western animation on Toonami at all (despite it being an ACTION block, not an ANIME block.)

Not really. Toonami was an old school cartoon fest when it started out, with one new show thrown in the mix. The original lineup was Voltron, Thundercats, a mix of classics, then The New Adventure of Johnny Quest. They didn't start bringing in the anime (well new anime outside of DBZ & Sailor Moon) until around 2000 with Gundam Wing and such.

Ah I never knew that since I didn't have Cartoon Network until the 2000s.

Yep. Adult Swim didn't start till around 2001.

Huh, then I guess I never watched it that far back.

The earliest I remember was when they premiered DBZ, Sailor Moon, Big O and all those other anime.

Their DBZ & Sailor Moon stuff didn't come about until around '99, and even then it was just the old stuff they showed on Ch. 11 back in the day. What really put them on the map was when they started bringing over anime like Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star, Big-O, as well as actually continuing with DBZ & Sailor Moon. That was huge since Ch 11 stopped with both after a certain point.

Ch 11 is the one that had the Ocean Dub of DBZ, right?
Title: Re: TOONAMI IS ON RIGHT [tornado fang]ing NOW

It sure was. That's the dub Toonami had at the beginning up until Goku fought Recoome. Then they announced they were continuing DBZ and everyone was stoked because before that we were LITERALLY left with...

"HAS GOKU BECOME A LEGENDARY SUPER SAIYAN? FIND OUT IN THE NEXT EPISODE OF DRAGONBALL Z"

...only to have it cut back to the first episode of DBZ. All that wait for Goku to arrive, he starts kicking the Ginyu Forces' ass and then NOTHING. It suuuuuucked. So yeah, that was a huge reason Toonami became so successful, in addition to all the other anime they started bringing over. Hell, it's what got me into Gundam & Gunpla.

Didn't Toonami air the Ocean dub for a while too before switching over to the Funimation dub?

Yeah. I thought I said that. Haha, if not I apologize.

The Ocean Dub was the one they originally aired before Funimation came along to continue the show when Goku fought Jeice and Burta.

Nah, you did say it. I'm an idiot and wasn't reading.
I know a lot of people prefer the old Ocean dub but I think I only ever saw like three episodes of it. I never really cared for DBZ back then since it was usually on before I got back from school or if it was on after I only ever seemed to watch episodes where nothing happened.

So seeing that DBZ Kai is coming to Toonami, maybe now I'll be able to watch it. 98 episodes is much less of a time allotment than 291 episodes is.

Yeha the only worth while episode from the Original you should watch is when Goku and Piccolo learn how to drive, just for the sheer absurdity of it.

So we all knew DBZ kai was airing on Toonami.

What we didn't know was if the show would be aired in 4:3 in an awful stretched format, cropped to 16:9, or whatever.

The promo they aired last night is indicative of how it'll be aired, proper 4:3 aspect ratio with "Space Bars" on the sides.

I wonder if they'll do the same for the other 4:3 shows (Narutard, Bebop, etc.)

Attack on Titan and Bleach end next week on November first.

Titan's sticking around on its same timeslot though, while DBZ Kai takes Bleach's Timeslot.

Hellsing is ending too on Nov. 8, but its just getting cut off as to not undercut the sales if the last few episodes apparently. (Actually nobody knows what the hell is going on Broadcast rights might be [tornado fang]'d or something.)

And as so many people have been wishing for since it was released, Inuyasha: The Final Act is finally found its home on Toonami, they're going to try and keep edits to a minimum but will edit to TV-MA if they need to.

There was an AMA on Reddit earlier this week, I'll post the highlights. I removed the stuff that was not directly relevant to Toonami, but the whole list is here (http://toonamifaithful.com/tidbits-from-jason-demarcos-reddit-ama/).

Quote
Last night, Jason DeMarco had an “Ask Me Anything” session on the Toonami sub-Reddit which yielded some interesting bits of intel about various things. Here’s a recap of his answers. He stated he would make no announcements during the AMA session but there was a lot of stuff in the works. You can read the entire thread here but below are the tidbits we found informative and/or interesting. Fair warning, there is a lot here.

He couldn’t say how long Intruder 2 is expected to be but Jason did state it will be a multi-week event. Also expect another trailer and/or teaser for Intruder 2 but definitely not this year.

The comic is still be made and will be held to launch with the Intruder 2 event.

No Clydes animation this year, maybe next year.

While there’s nothing to report on a possible continuation of Space Dandy, Jason noted that Adult Swim would be interested in being a sponsor for the Space Dandy movie that Watanabe wants to make.

Jason noted that the odds of another series getting aired in the US before Japan are small.

When inquired about Toonami merch, Jason replied “Merch… what a good idea!” Proceed to read into it. Likewise, when asked if they ever thought about doing a Toonami singles music program, Jason replied, “Not a bad idea!”

The post Hellsing Ultimate line-up will be announced soon, the 2:30 time slot will be going to a rerun (Rerun is Bleach, not starting from beginning, episode TBA).

No details can be given on why Hellsing Ultimate episodes 9 and 10 cannot air in November but they have not given up on airing them and hope to air them soon. They’re not sure if they would re-air the other 8 episodes of Hellsing Ultimate before airing 9 and 10 if those two end up airing a long time from now.

No movie announcements yet but Jason stated Miyazaki movies are WAY out of their budget.

Dragon Ball Z Kai will start with the opening FUNimation provides for them and will probably move to a custom intro but that decision is not 100% settled.

InuYasha: The Final Act will air one night with the full opening and have a shortened opening after that.

When asked about how they will air One Piece openings when the show loses its ending credits, he stated that the intros will likely stay 30 seconds. Jason also noted that One Piece is always fun to make bumpers for.

They will “get on” a Naruto Shippuden promo; he feels they owe the Naruto fans a promo.

They’re still working on getting Cowboy Bebop HD.

FLCL will not be returning to the block any time soon.

Big O season 2 will likely get another run when it finishes.

When asked about rerunning newer shows, he stated they have no choice but to air some reruns into the New Year.

Attack on Titan is re-airing because they do not currently have money to get another new show and because they can re-air Attack on Titan at no additional cost. It was the Programming Departments decision to keep Titan at 11:30pm because they expect it to do well there. When asked if Titan will eventually move down from 11:30 he said “we’ll see!”

When asked about whether airing a rerun before premieres discourages viewers from tuning in Jason replied, “Depends on the show. Plenty of shows rerun with decent audiences, plenty don’t. This perception of reruns as death is something that seems pretty unique to anime fans. Adult Swim is MOSTLY reruns. So is Toonami. So is all of TV, really!”

The Toonami budget resets in January.

The most clear note they received from “manipulate the manual” was to air more ADULT (read: dark) content and Hellsing was their first response to that.

When asked what he defines as “action”, Jason stated their definition of action was some sort of dramatic, usually physical, conflict that is ideally at the heart of the show driving it forward. He also stated that the main 3 things they consider when selecting show for Toonami is 1. They like it 2. It has enough action and 3. It has broad enough appeal to risk putting in front of a million or so people every week.

It’s easier financially to license “longer” shows and they feel the more settled the schedule is the more people have time to develop a habit of watching. The ratings are better when the schedule is stable. That said, Jason also hopes they will be able to pick up more series around 10 or so episodes in length and that Hellsing will not become a special case in that regard. However, they do not plan on moving from the model of airing longer shows for most of the block.

Shows from 2004-2007 are not considered too old for Toonami.

When asked about how old a show can be he said there was no hard and fast rule about that. Regardless of age, the show has to be relevant in a BIG way to the current audience. DBZ Kai qualifies but the list of shows that are that old and still relevant is a very short list. The same applies for movies.

When asked if there was any chance of a magical girl series airing on Toonami, he replied “anything is possible!”

Regarding shows they have that are free to air, he noted that pretty much everything in the back half of the block is free for them to air.

They understand we don’t like to see stretched shows and neither do they. He noted DBZ Kai is a special case that allowed them to maintain the 4:3 aspect ratio and they are going to see how that works out before committing to airing more shows with side bars.

Jason noted that one of the challenges in running the block that most people are not aware of is “the myriad legal challenges involved in licensing shows and airing them in the US, and even small things like opens/closes/eyecatches can be difficult to get worked out when receiving episodes. Working across language and geographical boundaries is hard, especially when dealing with something as complex as television and serialized storytelling. Honestly, so many things are involved in contractual stuff, you’d be amazed. It’s always something different and it’s always a miracle when something airs without a hitch.”

The deals Toonami makes are complex and EVERY deal is different. There are no rules. They will not divulge the details of any of their deals and they cannot give a list of every show they can currently air nor can they share their internal Standards and Practices. He did however make the general statement that heavily sexualized content in general will not be seen on Toonami and Jason dismissed the rumor that Kill La Kill had too much nudity for the S&P to clear.

Sometimes they request shows from licensors and sometimes licensors look to Toonami for exposure for certain series. It can go either way.

They currently acquire series from Aniplex, FUNimation and Viz Media but they hope to be working with other companies soon. Jason stated they are open to working with Sentai Filmworks.

Space Dandy happened because knew the people working on Space Dandy and said people came to Atlanta to pitch the show. They liked what they saw so they agreed to be a part of it. Jason noted you almost always need a US licensor in order to be able to get a show, even if it already has an English dub.

Since they air on Adult Swim they prefer to have more mature content but younger skewing shows are okay as long as they don’t skew TOO young.

Though it continues to be requested, Jason does not want to air Yu-Gi-Oh!

There are, sadly, very few Western animated action series that Toonami can have access to at this time.

There are still no plans to produce another original series a la IGPX. When asked whose soul did he have to sacrifice to get IGPX back on the air, he replied “Hahaha, MINE.”

Jason doesn’t think Toonami Jetstream will ever return.

I don't think I mentioned it already (and I apologize if I have) but December WILL be another month of movies, no damn clue as to what they'll be of course but I imagine that schedule will be out really soon.

Movie month stuff's been announced.

Hellsing 9 & 10's snafu has been sorted out and they will air as part of movie month.

December 6th: Hellsing Ultimate 9  and Summer Wars
December 13th: Hellsing Ultimate 10  and Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos
December 20th: Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan and Akira
December 27th: Evangelion 1.11 and Evangelion 2.22

A few reruns (Eva, Akira and Summer Wars) a few newcomers (Broly, The other FMA movie) looks good.

Toonami update:

New Year Schedule is in place. (http://toonami.tumblr.com/post/104441873323/new-year-new-schedule-new-news)

Notable changes:

Bebop in HD! (Starting over from the beginning)
Inuyasha moves to 1AM
Deadman Wonderland returns, airing after TTGL (Which conveniently has a recap episode before starting the second part.)

In a first for Toonami, no FMA:B (I think it and Bleach have been the only shows that've been on the block since its comeback the entire time).

Must you be so negative?

Other people liked it and I imagine people have been wanting to see it since it only aired at the beginning of the block back in 2012.

Besides, they're giving up the rights to FMA:B, it'll be gone for good. I only wish it was Bleach instead.

It won't be anymore on February 7th.

Okay, so some changes have cropped up.

KLK is pushed to 12:30.
DBZ Kai is at Midnight.

AoT, GitS, Bebop in HD, IGPX, Bleach, and the entire schedule past 3:30 is getting axed.

Also 11:30 is as well.

Because having low ratings at 4-6 is apparently a bad thing and not just expected because who the [tornado fang] is actually awake then?

DBZ Kai's encore airing at 8 is now to be followed by an encore of One Piece at 8:30.

March 28th is also the last day Deadman will air (again) and, ugh, Attack on Titan will air YET A-[tornado fang]ing-GAIN in its place.

Because, you know, after running it like 2-3 times to completion people are still [tornado fang]ing starving for that. Why not re-air something else? Like HD Bebop or Space Dandy?

Huh, holy cow its been a while since anything interesting's happened here.

Well, One Piece encore's are done for. Didn't last long at all.

Inuyasha's ending in a few weeks, so we're getting a show called Michiko and Hatchin (http://myanimelist.net/anime/4087/Michiko_to_Hatchin/) in its place.

And we're getting Akame ga Kill (http://myanimelist.net/anime/22199/Akame_ga_Kill!) to replace Kill la Kill in August. Notably Sentai Filmwork's first license to appear on Toonami.

The series Parasyte is joining the block in the fall. Replacing SAO II most likely. Making it the second Sentai Filmworks show to join the block (And the second Sentai show taking over an aniplex slot as Akame ga Kill is taking KLK's slot.)

I've heard nothing but good things about it so it might be interesting.
