Title: Capcom Asking For Megaman Fans & Cosplayers to Leave SDCC..?
Post by: Jericho on July 21, 2011, 08:28:58 PM
Hot on the heels of the unceremonious cancellation of the Megaman Legends 3 Project for the Nintendo 3DS, the internet is all abuzz with numerous instances of reports from Comic Con goers today stating that Megaman for all intents and purposes is a taboo subject around the Capcom booth. What initially started as a dubious 4chan post/reply (http://i.imgur.com/pasxW.jpg) has seemingly been corroborated by members of Capcom Unity forums with some people coming around and stating that they or people close to the main event have been asked to leave the area. In one such case, a person was asked by security to leave for donning a MM9 T-Shirt, in another situation a person was asked to leave over simple discussion of Tron's inclusion in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 as trailers blared around the area, and in the one that started everything, a Tron cosplayer was asked to straight up not come anywhere around the booth.

This thread is meant for further discussion/fact checking on the matter. I had initially brushed everything off as internet nerd rage going haywire, but with many people stepping up to give this further credence, it would be stupid not to keep the fandom, and fans of gaming in general up to date on what is happening.

So..it really is true. Capcom knows they screwed up and now they are scared.

Seriously, this thing reeks of stupid from every angle, and Capcom's overly antagonistic method of defending their interests/pushing others is not the best way to go about things if they intend to retain these good public relations with folks.

It's reprehensible at the very least.

To be honest, I kinda expected this. It's sad that they have to do this at their Comic Con booth, because these people have nothing to do with the Legends 3 decision.

Oh well even if this is true, and Capcom is overreacting, I can kinda understand it. I wouldn't want to get my show ruined by (potentially) angry fans.

Though I can understand the enraged fans too.

What I ought to do? Sit here and remain silent obviously.

And

that too

Oh yeah, definitely Acid. This is absolute damage control before anything else, but it still doesn't bode well on Capcom as a company that has been pushing so hard for consumer level feedback and the like.

Well first and foremost it's bad PR.
Title: Re: Capcom Asking For Megaman Fans & Cosplayers to Leave SDCC..?

As a company promoting new products/software/games and whatever, it would be a pain to have fans shout and rage in the middle of their conference. Which i know for a fact would happen.

But kicking out people JUST for cosplaying as a MM character or wearing a MM related item is incomprehensibly ignorant. As much as Capcom deserves being yelled at though, they're still a company, thus at a higher authority than the "normal" people there. They get enough rants over the web anyway.

The reasonable thing to do would be to escort people out if they get out of hand, but not kick them out just for showing support for something they idolize.

And now, we have the first few reports from Capcom's twitter stating that this all isn't true. Clusterfuck isn't a strong enough word to describe what's happening here. -u-'

You know, if I were Capcom in this instance, even if it were true I'd still have the representatives in charge of the Twitter page cry false. Just like how they're saying that the L3 cancellation isn't related in any way, shape, or form to Inafune's departure.

Well, the eggheads at Capcom brought it on themselves because they could not wait to announce the cancellation on Monday. Did they really think there wouldn't be a back draft? They probably did but they could've done a better job at damage control if they waited.

So far it's been reported from multiple sources, Only capcom is trying to deny it. Even some people from OTHER companies are saying the same, that Capcoms being total [Top Spin]s about this.

At this point it doesn't really matter if true or not.

Reputational damage has been done, and Capcom will have a hard time recovering from that. If they manage at all.

I don't know about Comic-Con, but Reverge Labs (Skullgirls dev) is pretty ticked over the cancellation in general.

Hey guys,

No,  we are NOT kicking Mega Man fans out of our booth at Comic Con. In  fact, we welcome them here, along with all other fans. Nobody is being  removed or kicked out of our booth.

No, Seth was not punched by a fan. Seth hasn't even been to our booth yet today!

Once again, we're welcoming everyone.

They mentioned as much too on stream when asked about it. I don't think they're THAT draconian about it since it's overkill. This sounds more like the Internet just trying to come up with B.S. to make Capcom out to be even worse.

Proving once again to not always take everything you read as wholesale.

You know, I am disappointed in Seth Killian not punching a fan in the face. Capcom could work off of that angle and make "Seth Killian's Super Punch-Out."

The rumor was some fan punching seth in the face, not the other way around.

Though if that happened that would've made the fanbase look completely incompetent.

This Song has meaning... all the megaman games that Keiji Inafune didn't work on sucked and the ones he did work on were awesome... Keiji's imagination is fascinating but without him CAPCOM and the blue bomber is nothing. And without enough money megaman games will be canceled like Megaman Legends 3 and Megaman Universe.

Holy [parasitic bomb]. It's so bad that comments have somehow reached my stupid Eng. Translation Youtube videos. XD

Even X7 was "ok" when you overlook it's problems. And Starforce, despite the hate it gets, DID have good gameplay. (and the story picked up at 3)

Uppercut indeed.

well... i haven`t played x7, but i`ve heard about their issues...and as games go, i think x8 could have done a better use of the 3d enviroment, is not bad but neither a masterpeice, bck to the theme, maybe the rumor was create by some pissed fan, but i don`t blame him, i  could have done the same, (evil grin)

I can't vouch for 2 or 3 as i've never played them, but the first Starforce's gameplay was mediocre. Not only was BN's gameplay (from BN2 and on especially) more polished, but it actually had a GOOD variety of Battle Chips to choose from. The chips were actually fun to use, especially the insanely powerful Zeus' Hammer and unique Program Advance's. In Starforce, the lineup of Battle Cards were lacking and even worse, i hated the the vertical battlefield setup as opposed to BN's horizontal style. It gave you less time to react and IMO, less time to counter certain attacks.

I liked it. it was like 3D BN. wasnt perfect, but I still found it fun. I DO prefer 1 and 3 though. Something about 2 just bothers me

So Japan gets a "retail game" demo, but the US doesn't? Lame.

I actually wouldn't mind paying for a demo if it was something worthwhile, like Layton vs. Ace Attorney or Mario Kart 7.

Same here.

This, for whatever reason, just feels like "Never give out for free what you can slap a price tag on, no matter how illogically!"

The purpose of a demo is to see if you like the game and want to spend the money for it.

A paid demo is completely ridiculous. The notion is just absurd.

If you're getting an early look at a work-in-progress, that's one thing, but if they're just cutting snippits out of the retail release then there's no point.

Think back to that second disc that came with Misadventures.  Imagine if you found it packed separately in some used retailer.  I think most of us here would more likely pay money for DASH2 Episode 1 than do the same for the Legends 2 demo disc.
