Well, Doujinshi is suppose to mean fan comic. It doesn't have to be anything R, though it almost always is...

This fo' you, Vix. Glory to RPM!

Rockmen R Background and Scene Translations

Story (From Website)
Time after time, Rockman has hindered Dr. Wily's plans for world domination. At this rate, he'll be stuck scrimping on all his materials, even Sniper Joe shields. Even though Forte's abilities should be much greater than Rockman's, Rockman has not been defeated...

Wily: Why, why... why can't I find the reason for it!
...
......
......
Wily: .....!!
Wily: No, wait just a minute, Rockman and Forte, Rush and Gospel... Roll?
Wily: Really... is that so... can it be?
Wily: Ha ha ha... fwa ha ha ha... haa ha ha ha ha ha ha, so be it!
Wily: The world will be miiiiine!

Characters (from website)

Roll
Like a sister to Rock, she handles everything from housework to assisting the Doctor in his lab.

Rockman
Originally a domestic robot, but to halt Dr. Wily's crimes, volunteered to be converted into the super fighting robot Rockman.

Rush
A support robot Dr. Right made for Rockman. He helps Rock in all sorts of tough situations.

Rightot
A robot that helps out in the laboratory. Is it his turn at last??
Rightot: Don't tease me...

Forte:
Self-titled world's strongest. (Ha!) Wily created him to have abilities even greater than Rockman's, but he hasn't won once.

???:
Wily somehow managed to create a copy of Roll-chan. Everything else... missing data.

WEASELMAN
An aerial type defensive robot modeled after a kamaitachi (a japanese whirlwind monster, shaped like a weasel). Its fighting power is immense.

WALTZMAN
Formerly a violinist robot, he broke down and was due to be scrapped when Wily picked him up.

FLAREMAN
An ammunitions factory testing robot. Although he carries a flammable warning label, he is able to control the flares. He can engulf his body in flame and perform a rushing attack that's sure to attract a lot of attention.

RAPIDMAN
An assassination robot that can drop a target from long-distance. He typically prefers to work alone, and why he's cooperating with Wily is a mystery.

PUPPETMAN
A robot that guards the main system for controlling the automated dolls at an amusement park. Now that main system's dolls have all been transformed into bombs by Dr. Wily.

ENERGYMAN
A robot created to develop new sources of energy, capable of converting various things into energy.

LASERMAN
A robot in charge of gun defenses on a space base. His secret technique, the laser wave, is extremely powerful.

POWERMAN
A civic laborer robot, recently deployed at a mine to harvest a newly discovered mineral. An acquaintance of Gutsman and Stoneman, he never loses a contest of strength.

Opening Stage

Rightot:
Rock's signal went right around here somewhere...

Roll:
I wonder if something happened to Rock... I hope he's gotten to somewhere safe.

Rightot:
Knowing Rock, he's probably fine I bet...

Roll:
Yes. He should be. But...

Rightot:
Daggone it. The road ahead is too difficult to drive on.

(Roll jumps out of the truck and runs off ahead)

Rightot:
Hold on, Roll-chan! It's too dangerous to go by yourself!

Roll:
But I'm worried about Rock. I'll go on alone if I have to.

Rightot:
I know but... Wait, Roll-chan!

Roll:
Hang on until I get there, Rock!

(Roll goes on by her lonesome, and encounters a girl in the woods dressed like her)

Roll:
!?
You're dressed just like me... who are you?!

???:
I'm Roll, duh.

Roll:
I don't remember being that ugly.

???:
Hmph! Don't grunt at me like some baboon.

Roll:
What?! You saying you want a piece of me?

???:
Fine by me, but you won't win. It only took a single shot to take down Rock.

Roll:
We'll see about that! You will return Rock to me!

(A battle ensues, Roll wins)

Roll:
What do you say, now that I've kicked your keester?

???:
I'm not down yet. If you want him returned, you'll have to catch me first!

(The mysterious girl changes clothing and exits, Roll follows, the stage select screen shows up)

Energyman Stage, Blues appears

Roll:
Blues! Rock is... Please, lend me your power to help him!

Blues:
I know about it. But, I can't comply with your request.

Roll:
What are you saying... If you didn't come to help, then what are you doing here?

Blues:
...Th-that's not your concern.

Roll:
Alright then. If that's how you feel, then I'll just take what I need!

Blues:
Oh? And Roll-chan, what is it you want from me...?

Roll:
Your shield.

Blues:
Hah!

(They battle, Roll wins)

Roll:
I won!

Blues:
With power like that alone, you will surely be able to save Rock.

Roll:
Enough talk, give me the shield already.

Blues:
As you wish. Make good use of this in battle.

Roll:
Thanks.

Blues:
Well then... Later.

Wily Stage 1

(The mysterious girl appears again halfway into the stage)

???:
I didn't think you'd make it this far. The bosses Wily created were a bunch of weaklings.

Roll:
Whatever, just return Rock to me!

???:
Ha ha ha ha, it's too late. Wily's already finished remodeling him, didn't you know?

Roll:
Th-that means...

???:
Don't be sad. After I've reduced you to scrap, you'll be rebuilt as our ally.

(Another battle, Roll wins)

???:
......(erk).

Roll:
It looks like the tables have turned.

???:
Hmph, I'm getting tired of you.

(the girl exits, Roll continues on)

Wily Stage 2

(Forte appears around the middle of the stage)

Roll:
!
Forte. Did you give up your dream of fighting with Rock?

Forte:
I would never... That rotten old bastard Wily, I can't stand his schemes!

Roll:
If that's so, then why...?!

Forte:
I can't stand it! But, I can't help Rock. It's the way Wily built me. That's why you must defeat me, and go.

Roll:
Forte...

Forte:
On my life, I can't just look the other way!

(They battle, Roll wins)

Roll:
...you lost to me on purpose, didn't you?

Forte:
You think I'd fight seriously with a girl? ...Well, I'd like to say it was only because I was holding back, but the truth is you fought splendidly. Go, and help Rock.

(Forte leaves, Roll continues)

Wily Stage 3

Roll:
It looks like he's up ahead! Rush, let's go!

("he" is Airman, a little in-joke to Airman ga Taosenai! perhaps)

Wily Stage 4

???:
This is the third time we've met, isn't it, Roll?

Roll:
Yeah, so?

???:
It's about time I introduced myself. My name is Piano. I'm Forte's little sister.

Roll:
If that's true then you should understand, return Rock to me!

Piano:
...(erk).
...Y..you never give up, do you?

Roll:
That's my line! You think the third time's the charm for you? Don't make me laugh.

Piano:
Hmph. The snow... is beautiful, isn't it?

Roll:
What does that have to do with anything?!

Piano:
When it snows like this, is the only time when I can demonstrate the true power of my special weapon.

Roll:
Hee hee, what a useless special weapon.

Piano:
Enough of your prattle! Prepare to be frozen for eternity!

(Roll wins yet again)

Piano:
Why... Why can't I win?!

Roll:
It's definitely not because you're weak. But, you're only thinking of yourself. I wish to help Rock. Because of that, I can overcome anything!

Piano:
...(erk!)

(Piano leaves, and Roll continues to the end of the stage, where she finds Rockman at last)

Roll:
Rock!!

Rock:
Roll-chan, get away from here!

Roll:
Aren't we leaving together?

Rock:
M-my body isn't listening to me. Dr. Wily must have tampered with my insides.

Roll:
If we can return to Dr. Right's lab, I know we'll figure something out!

Rock:
It's no use, even now my hand is trying to attack you. It's taking all my might just to try and hold it back!

Roll:
B-but!

Rock:
N-no good!...I can't fight it...

(Rock and Roll battle, Roll wins out)

Roll:
Rock!!

Rock:
I-I'm okay. In that last attack, you must have destroyed the chip that Dr. Wily installed into me.

Roll:
I'm so relieved...

Rock:
Time to get going. I've got to defeat Dr. Wily!

Roll:
With your body in that state, no way! Rock, you've got to return to Dr. Right's lab.

Rock:
...
...I understand. I'll head back to Dr. Right's lab for repairs. I'll entrust Dr. Wily to you.

Roll:
Leave it to me!

Rock:
All right, see ya when you get back!

Wily Stage 5

Wily:
So, is seems that Remote Control Chip I installed in Rock was faulty after all...? Feh, oh well. I'll just install another one next time I capture him.

Roll:
I won't let you!

Wily:
Heh heh, no one asked you! But, it does seem I miscalculated your abilities.

Roll:
Too bad for you!

Wily:
Let me thank you for coming all this way!

(Roll wins the final battle, and Wily resumes his usual humble surrender)

Wily:
Hyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-! I'm so sorry! S-so sorry! I'm so very sorry! Please forgive me, I beg of you! I won't do bad things anymore! I promise!

Roll:
How many times have we heard that before?! You aren't going to trick me!

(Roll aims her Rollbuster at Wily, charging up)

Wily:
Y-you're going to s-shoot me? But you're a robot, and I'm a human...!

Roll:
You're wasting your time.

Wily:
Waiiiiiit!!

Roll:
Prepare yourself.

Wily:
Do what?

SPRO-I-I-ING! (Wily's head springs off, revealing himself to be an impostor)

Roll:
It's a... fake...!

(Roll victory poses and escapes, scene cuts to Wily's castle self destructing, but not before Wily escapes in his flying saucer. Cut to credits)

Sorry I didn't see this thread sooner (I'm Shadowman, the person who took the photo in the first post).

I did try to take some movies of each level but my PC struggled to record anything that would be deamed as watchable but there is a full walkthrough on NikoNiko (You need an account to watch them though): http://www.nicovideo.jp/search/rockmen+r

Its a really fun doujin game, better than most of the Rom Hacks of Megaman 2 and such I've played. The game feels like a compilation of bits taken from the original Rockman series featuring enemies and stage designs reminisent to the earlier games (especially the Nes games). For example, Lazer Mans level is a cross between Star Mans stage (with enemies and low gravity) and Quick Mans stage (Damned instant kill lasers  ;^;)
Boss fights are hit and miss though, some are pretty fun (like Lazer Man and Puppet Man) and others are to easy (Rapid Man).

The fortress levels can get a bit manic as well, a couple of bits in Fortress stage 2 and 3 require quite a bit of trial and error before finally managing to complete them, nothing that ruins the game but a couple of bits that come close to spoiling the fun. The Fortress levels do have the bonus of having you face off against bosses from previous games:

Fortress Boss 1 - Cutman

The mid boss of Fortress Stage 2 - Forte

Fortress Boss 2 - Heatman

Fortress Boss 3 - Airman

Fortress Boss 4 - Rockman

And of course - Wily in his capsule.

All the bosses fight like they do in their respective games (Forte fights like his Wily Stage 1 fight in Rockman 7). Megaman is closest to the Rockman? battle in Rockman Rockman. Wily fights like a much simplified version of his Rockman 7 capsule battle.

The other thing I really liked about this game was the music, all the stage tunes sound really nice and there is even a great remix of Rockman 2's Wily stage 1 theme for Fortress stage 1.

Hell, are there any good scans of the front cover or manual? I'm liking what little I can see of the RMs. /will look into this tomorrow

I could try and get better pictures of the front/back of the case + disc but my camera isn't great. The game didn't actually come with a manual which was slightly disapointing.

This is a very enjoyable game.  I recently managed to purchase a copy off of "Rakuten International" (a centralized Japanese auction site that acts as a middle-ground for shippers and sellers, and will ship internationally).  As has been mentioned, the game has very unique aspects to it: a unique story (I'm guessing takes place sometime after Rockman 9, though this is not made 100% clear), unique Robot Masters (including Piano), and also a very good soundtrack.  The game itself is quite challenging to play, but to me this adds to its fun and replay value.

Unfortunately, I was informed by another Japanese gaming store that this game is no longer in production due to a legal dispute between Capricorn and Capcom, so you cannot order it directly from Capricorn and most stores that were offering the game (who got it from the manufacturer) have stopped orders for it.  However, if you are interested in buying a copy, you can do so via Yahoo! Auctions Japan or even from Rakuten (probably your best bet).

True, but they will allow most fan projects to exist.  I think in this case this game was a VERY well-designed fan/doujin title, but they certainly crossed a line by selling the game for profit (and it's not particularly cheap, either!).  I think it's partially a matter of using copyrighted material (not theirs) for profit.

On a somewhat related note, the Transformers brand has a similar, recent, phenomenon where loads of 3rd party companies are making their own add-ons, such as armor, trailers, and a cassettebot (the Autoscout).  And not low quality KOs you can get from China Town, but high quality origional molds and high quality reproductions too.  Us Transfans are wondering how long that'll last when it finally gets the axe.  It was interesting to know that the same sorta thing happened to MM.  Doujinshi are one thing, but infringing upon the home turf is another.

I enjoy Transformers, but I guess I don't keep up with it that much!  I had no idea that this was going on, but then again, it really doesn't surprise me.  I think it's one thing if you get a license to use someone else's property, but it's copyright infringement to just start making products or games without even asking, and making them for-profit.

I remember that Chrono Trigger project, and I also remember a project to make a follow-up SNES Chrono Trigger (maybe the same project??), but it certainly did get a cease-and-desist.  Square does seem to be picky about canning fan-projects, but in their case, maybe they do so out of keeping their series' pure.

Another possibility is that Square (or any other company) may be considering a similar project, so they don't want the fans to do the same thing.  A good example of this was a fan-game called "Castlevania: Accursed Seal X," which would have been a 3D remake of Castlevania II: Simon's Quest.

I thought Rockmen R was pretty good.  It has a great soundtrack and some rather interesting bosses.  However, there are quite a few glitches/bugs that occur every now and then throughout the game, and it can be frustratingly hard due to those and some of the crazy stage layouts.

If you want a legal copy of the game, you'd have to check somewhere like TaoBao, Eurotaku, or Rakuten International (those sites have had it before and, even though it's not being produced anymore, they still get used/unopened copies from time to time).

Unfortunately, I don't intend to distribute a copy of the ISO to anyone other than those who have already received it, but maybe someday someone else will release it publically if they are so inclined.

@Keno: Vixy could probably help you with giving a translation of the game's options.  I basically figured it out by trial and error myself.  I'm not sure what exactly some of the options on the top of the page do, but the others allow you to change the keyboard settings (which, if you want to use a controller, you could do with Joy2Key).   The last set of choices (bottom-right) asks if you want to use the default settings or use these (bottom choice).

What are you objecting to?  My point was that FansProjects, the maker of some of the best 3rd party stuff, was at the same con as Hasbro.  Ditto Botcon, from what i hear.  I imagine this irks the Hasbro guys somewhat, which was my point.

Yes, they made a JP version of the "TF con exclucive" Powered Commander, although it sports some color changes.  Evidently there was a miscommunication (understandable since English is not their first language).

I'll have to play it before answering that.  The installation doesn't actually work for Vista, although the uninstalled files seem to work (discovered only recently) ... although it is on the fast side.

It seems nice enough, but I'm disappointed with "Evil Roll".  It's a missed opportunity to incorperate the evil girl robot seen in the "alternate Universe" art from, most famously, R20.  The one with the W on her head.

Of course, Capcom "could" have made this (just as they could make any game they wanted), but they obviously didn't.  That aside, it's a pretty good game for a non-Capcom Rockman game.

Interesting game. Though I'm not really fond of the graphic style mixing (there's some sprites in there that doesn't fit the whole 8-bit style). Though I played a bit of the mini-game, that got boring really fast for some reason. Anyway, some of the bosses are hard. Also, kind of hard to stand whats going on because of all the Japanese.
