I thought'd it be interesting to have a conversation about the worst Mega Man Fan Games/Rom Hacks you guys have played.

For me, the worst I've ever played was Mega Man Origins. The levels were dull and uninspired, the robot master designs were terribly bland and forgettable, the music was Geocities homepage-tier Midis and the master weapons are boring and don't even change your color.

Mega Man 42 is my personal second worst for being absolute crap in every area. The music is tone deaf and repetitive. The graphics looks like something a 5 year old boy with hammers for hands would make in MS Paint, and the game play itself is shallow and glitchy.

Was it literally a copy of MM3?

Current playthrough: Chrono Trigger and God Eater Ressurection

I would actually play that game, ironically.

I haven't played many MM fan games or rom hacks.  Played some Sonic fan games, though.  Can't think of the worst one right now, but many of my complaints for fan games and rom hacks tend to be the same: controls and level designs.

I don't care for rom hacks that claim to be "hard" by having just plain unfair level designs with no thought put into actual challenge, and the controls being generally unresponsive.  A hard game is hard due to challenge, not due to mechanical problems and cheap cop-out level design.

Also... I'm picky on fan characters and I don't care for reskins and palette swaps.

No. It was absolute [parasitic bomb] with Megaman X for some reason if I recall correctly.

I think he just kept copying the file and the operating system was renaming it:

Copy of Mega Man
Copy of Mega Man 2
Copy of Mega Man 3

etc.

lol

Never played any, but I remember tales of all those "adult" ROMhacks that were made by hateful, spiteful middle schoolers. You know, the ones that flood the game world with phalli and/or betray what their creators think of transgender people.

Oftentimes, the base game mechanics would be tampered with in ways that didn't work, to boot.

In terms of fan games I DID play, there's this one Sonic SatAM-based game whose name I keep forgetting (it took place a few years in the future and was edgy as fook and Tails underwent a growth spurt); the first level was made unreasonably difficult, and I couldn't get more than a little ways into it.

Oh yeah, add those to my list.  I've played some middle-schooler's idea of an "edgy" and "hard" game and it sucked because it was my middle school idea of "edgy" and "hard."  And I know it sucked because I was an idiot in middle school.  No one has good middle school ideas because we were all idiots in middle school.
