Amish Youth Hitchin' Up to Facebook

Saw this in my local paper today and thought I'd share it.  Only in Pennsylvania (and possibly Ohio and anywhere else there are large Amish populations) would this make the front page...

Connect with other Amish, perhaps?

How about that.

.....why would they need to keep in touch though? I mean....it doesn't make any sense.

Why not?  See if other rebellious Amish teenagers are doing things behind their parents' backs, too.  Perhaps hook up when they go on rumspringa.

Because they're teens and their parents have no idea what they're doing so they can get away with it :D

I remember watching this thing once where Amish teens would go out at night and party and [parasitic bomb]. They had normal clothes and stuff, cell phones, the works. And their parents didnt know about it.

...When Larry the reploid accountant goes maverick of his own accord, he's certainly formidable during tax season, but he isn't going to provide X the challenge needed to make him grow as a warrior and reach his potential.

I wonder how they hide all this stuff from their parents.  I mean a cell phone and maybe a laptop may be easy but the clothes must be really hard unless they only have one pair.

Well, in some communities, during rumspringa, a young Amish is allowed to go out and experience the world.  They no doubt have English (non-Amish) friends where they can keep their English things.

That makes sense, though they must get tired if they do that when rumspringa is over since they have to do this at night when everyone is asleep.  I wonder how the parents don't notice that?  How long does rumspringa last anyway?

It usually lasts from sixteen until the kid either chooses baptism and joins the church or leaves the community.  During rumspringa, the kids aren't punished as severely when they engage in English activities and trends.  Despite their rebellion, most choose to stay within the Order after rumspringa.

I guess that makes sense since that's the lifestyle they've lived for their entire lives until then.

Or they realized that we're all a bunch of filthy heathens who are on the fast track to hell. :P

There's that too, I mean for crying out loud virgins seem a bit rare in my part of town or at least from the people I know, which is not much.
