Back in 1997, there was this one Mega Man web site with screenshots of the cartoon, and I remember seeing two screenshots that were said to be from an unreleased episode and the link to the screenshot saying something about Protoman finally helping Mega Man fight Dr. Wily, and in the second screenshot, I know this was at least part of the title, but don't know if it was the whole title for the link to the screenshot. In the title it said "where's Protoman?" Again, I don't remember if that was the whole title, because it was so long ago (God, I miss those days). Does anyone know anything about this unreleased episode? Was Protoman supposed to have bitten the dust?

First, I already started a thread about this. But then, it's an ancient thread.

Second, if you still have those two screenshots, POST THEM NOW PLZ. Or post a website link so we can see if the Wayback Machine is of any help.

I told you this was back in 1997. I was either 10 and a half or 11 years old. The site is long gone now, and I can't prove that they exist, but I did see them.

...oh. derp.

I went and checked another place that brought up this subject--apparently the site was called "Eddie's Mega Man Page". Of course, the rest of the topic isn't of much help. (Don't go sign up and reply to that or anything; it's an old topic)

Who knows; maybe I can find it through the Wayback Machine. But probably not before someone else posts a link.

...except I couldn't. :/

E-mailed Gauntlet about this earlier, and he had this to say:

Quote
Does he mean Eddy’s Cybernetic Support Shop?  I don’t recall them ever having anything close to something that cool.  The only one that fits the bill is Mandi’s page and what she says may have happened in the next season has the show not ended.

I think it’s just blatant assumptions from people back in the day who wanted the show to be more like the games.

Well, damn.

There was a late Season 2 episode that actually did have Protoman and Megaman teaming up for a while, so that might've been it.

Commander Shepard: *stares blankly at a video of scantily clad asari dancers* ...What kind of hotel is this?
Liara T'Soni: It is a luxury resort with an... exotic edge.  Azure is slang for a part of the asari body in some places on Illium.
Shepard: Where?
Liara: The lower reaches, near the bottom.
Shepard: I meant, "where on the asari body?"
Liara: So did I.

Since I love a challenge, I actually found the link to Eddy's old page at Archive.

*hugs Gauntlet*

The captures don't go all the way back to '97, though; bummer. Wonder how much info/how many images he had on the site then?..

Also, I know you said you didn't remember the site having anything like that and that it sounded like blatant "fan" assumptions, but--two different people remembering seeing unreleased screencaps (and posting about it years apart, and presumably with no contact with one another), AND with episode 27 apparently never airing (I read that the show was canceled before the producers could really plan anything)?

I just wish someone could show us some goddamn evidence. >.>

I'm not surprised.  Speculation on the show was very popular.  I was around back then too, although not active in the community.  I went to all the pages you likely did and I remember nothing about screens from an unreleased episode except for the promo cartoon at Mandi's site.  I was, of course, older than 10.

His site mentiones being the first to have info on the only episode in Season 3 - Crime of the Century.  It's likely that the memory of this other fellow comes from there.  Screenshots from that show were very hard to find back in the day (even now I think I might have the most extencive image gallery on them), so seeing something you didn't recognize wouldn't surprise me. Especially when we had the promo video and Superadventure Rockman and many confused MM fans to deal with.

Bear in mind - you were 10.  Memory's a funny thing.  For instance, I once said to my sister that I always wanted the Sword of Omens from Thundercats.  My sister said I had it when we were kids and insisted I did when i said I didn't.  I reminded her that I only called the sword I had "the Sword of Omens" because I really wanted one, but never actually had it.  Similarily I also remember being convinced Astrotrain of the Transformers was an Autobot on the show.  Not true.  I have no idea what gave me that impression.  Maybe the episode where he fought Megatron.

Anyway, I visisted Eddy's page and, had there been screens like that, I woulda saved them.  I still have Pixelboy's sprite and image archive you know.

Yeah, memory's a [sonic slicer]--I'd hate to think how I would've remembered things if I had Internet access at 10.

Maybe BossPlaya can clear things up a bit? Assuming he didn't forget this thread...

I have a pretty good memory of my past, and I do remember seeing those screenshots. Although the site Gauntlet provided a link to looks nothing like the site I remember, so I'm thinking maybe it was a different site that had the word "Eddie's" in it. The site I saw it on had more than one section available already.

Well, that was the version of the site from 2001-2005; Wayback Machine doesn't have any captures from '97.

Well, that's the site from 2000, not 97.  If you read it, you'll notice it says it's reopening.  There was a few other sites - like Mandi's and the Sinister Six, that had screens.  But this was the only major MM site with Eddy featured.  I seem to recall it having a large picture of Tango in the past along with sprites and wallpapers to help fledgeling MM sites get into shape, if that helps.

Protoman DID help Megaman fight Dr. Wily in the show, though.  So that memory you have ... it doesn't really mean it's from an unaired episode.  Either you or the webmaster could have assumed it was unaired.

Back in the day we had far less information than we do now.  I mean, the early MM sites were great for the sheer enthusism the fans had and the way everyone made webpages with a unique flavor ... but nobody but Mandi or Red Draco had anything remotely resembling unseen tidbots of information.  And it wasn't until the Planet Megaman and Megaman Network days did we have anything close to insider information.

Sorry, but take it from a guy who'se been there, you're remembering wrong.  If you won't take my word for it Lysekoid and Gren are also relics of that earlier age, you might want to ask them over at the New Horizon forums.

Oh man, the rampant misinformation back in the day was kind of hard to miss. I've been around for a long time myself (under a different name back in the day), and I don't really have any recollection of this. I haven't posted thusfar because I assumed maybe I just hadn't been to the site in question, which may very well be the case to tell the truth. I just wanted to chime in that I don't really recall this either.

Yeah, I have no memory of this either. I have been around since 95'. I still remember Maelgrim. Anyone else? [eyebrow]

I do believe so.  Gary reposted his MM1 story and changed a few of the names on the Sinister Six.  Much later on I heard he didn't actually liek the name changing bit.

Maelgrim. Sounds familiar. I can't put my finger on it. Speaking of old MM sites, does anyone remember the MegaManiacs Homepage? That site was awesome! I was upset when they closed down.

The fact that there's nothing on this TODAY should be the biggest indicator. As the Mega Man community took off, I'd assume the story would get a more coverage.

That being said, the only thing I've found on the topic is that they made one episode after the second season was cancelled to complete their contract.
