Why don't they just remake the first one instead of churning out so much of this... stuff?

Ah the first Shining Force was remade, for the GBA, and it was good.

It was remade quite a bit, adding in new characters, story elements, dialog, card collecting.
Moving Hanz and Musashi's recruitment around and made it a little more difficult than "I read this bush." or " I read this poster" and voila you get 'em.
It also moved the Bikini to a new location, and unlocked other outfits for other characters.
I remember going through a lot of bullshit for a half-assed bikini pixel for Tao and Narsha. <_<
