Pretty much, you can no longer legally sell an R4 in Japan. It's still legal in Chinese and Taiwanese markets, but good luck finding one in Japan that's not on the black market.

Not surprising, as Nintendo has gotten more and more aggressive lately.  Recall from the NES days that they'd ban the freaking Game Genie if they could, so the R4 is a no-brainer.

Well, for those of us not on board for the DSi, there's always Datel's Games n Music.  Of course, there are reasons one might want commercial game compatibility.  But I guess sometimes you just can't have it all.
