Gaming / Chantelise - from the makers of Recettear

As the URL suggests, it's been translated by the same guys too.
From what I've been told it's not nearly as kawaii uguu but also not as new and interesting as Recettear.

Emulation / NSF files without the sound effects
« on: July 16, 2011, 09:12:36 PM »
I prefer using emulated music when possible for various reasons, and NSF files are no exception. Problem with those are that they tend to contain all the sound effects from their respective games as well, and with the player I managed to get for my brand new phone (android; player is DeadBeef) they clutter my playlist.
Very much a first-world problem, but does anyone know if it's possible to get rid of that part of the files or find somewhere that has the files as such?

ZX / The "gift" of mortality
« on: May 30, 2011, 05:09:14 PM »
Why did they choose to limit reploid lifespans instead of allowing humans to change their bodies entirely to machines as they grew older? A workforce that can keep working indefinitely bar accidents, and grows ever more skilled... And overpopulation could be managed as long as you enforce sterility and abandon production of new reploids.

Personally I went for BoF.
I'm disappointed not to see the option for Gargoyle's Quest/Demon's Crest, and surprised by how popular Dino Crisis seems to be since I had barely even heard of that series...

Off The Wall / Non-standard DNA life on Earth

Instead of using phosphorus, the bacteria uses arsenic. All life on Earth is made of six components: carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and sulfur. Every being, from the smallest amoeba to the largest whale, share the same life stream. Our DNA blocks are all the same.

But not this one. This one is completely different. Discovered in the poisonous Mono Lake, California, this bacteria is made of arsenic, something that was thought to be completely impossible. While she and other scientists theorized that this could be possible, this is the first discovery. The implications of this discovery are enormous to our understanding of life itself and the possibility of finding beings in other planets that don't have to be like planet Earth.

Zero / Why wasn't the Forbidden Ark launched into the sun?
« on: November 29, 2010, 12:01:57 PM »
Did they want to keep the original body just in case? Or was it because Weil tampered with it? He does seem to call it down in the Z2 ending...

Zero / Why didn't X show himself to the Guardians?
« on: November 20, 2010, 08:35:16 PM »
Well, before Z3.
Surely he could have proved himself to be the real deal with like, memories only he could have?
Especially once Copy-X was out of the way, he could've told them to stop the oppression of reploids even if he wouldn't have enough energy to stay and oversee things himself.

Rockman Series / Club of Fans Without Games
« on: October 29, 2010, 12:21:01 AM »
I realized earlier that though I'm a megaman fan, I only actually own mmz4 & the zx games (not counting old cartridges in some forgotten corner of the attic).
I've played every X game except 7 and CM, but don't own a single one...

Gaming / Recettear, RPG shopkeeper game, now on Steam (free demo available)
« on: September 01, 2010, 09:17:27 AM »

Quote
Reccettear is a game where you run an item shop in an RPG world, from how the layout of the displays to decorations and item placement and prices, but you don't just order items, you gotta loot them from inside dungeons, and you hire mercs to aid you on your "Restock" runs.

It comes out on September 10th, but you get a discount for pre-purchasing it.
This looks interesting, gotta try the demo!

General / Get rid of Marqueeeees
« on: June 12, 2010, 12:34:20 AM »
I really don't want to be the one to bring this up but I can't hold it in anymore.

Can we please get rid of allowing marquees (and ideally, .gifs) in signatures? For gods sake it feels like I'm visiting one of those old geocities pages with rotating skulls and crap whenever I scroll through a popular thread!
And... in before people add rotating skulls and UNDER CONSTRUCTION and so on to their sigs...

Gaming / Valkyrie Profile sequel

While it's possible the titles on the compilation disc can change, we can say with pretty much certainty that Square/Enix is announcing two titles for the 360. The only question is about the second disc which we were under the impression Capcom held the rights to. But first the big news, which is we're finally getting a true console sequel to Valkyrie Profile. We're being told it will be shown in video form only (nothing playable) at the MS E3 opener. For fans of the series, I wouldn't freak out just yet if you don't own an Xbox 360. The series is rooted on the Playstation brand and the word "exclusive" was never used during the conversation about the game. Showing at one companie's press conference likely means a timed-exclusive at best in this day and age.

The second game is a Breath of Fire compilation consisting of the first two SNES titles with updated graphics and modern HD cut-scenes added in. The limited information we were given leads us to believe that outside of the visuals and FMV, these are basically straight ports on a single disc. Again, the franchise started on Nintendo consoles and made the jump to the Sony brand. We can't see any reason the compilation couldn't make the leap to Wii and PS3 unless of course Microsoft pulled out the check book. It could also come down to who's getting paid since Square originally owned ONLY the North American rights to Breath of Fire I, while Capcom owns the franchise as a whole.

While we're all fanboys at heart, I think I speak for everyone when I say we hope these don't stay exclusive. Based on Star Ocean, we're likely looking at a time-exclusive for Xbox 360 since tri-Ace is experienced on both consoles. The Breath of Fire comp-disc isn't exactly going to be pushing any hardware limits if it does turn out to just be a port with visual upgrades, so the Wii should get some love too.

Items that made my jaw drop:
  • Putting the flight ticket on the screen and getting a path description
  • Taking a photo with the gesture
  • Watching youtube in an ordinary newspaper
  • Playing a racing game using a microphone and a piece of paper
  • Picking up an item from the paper and dropping it onto his stationary computer
  • Altering a pie chart he had picked up from a real paper and dropped onto his virtual paper
