Gaming / Happy 10th Anniversary Sega Dreamcast
« on: September 09, 2009, 08:31:32 AM »

Yes, dear gamers of young and old.  Now here is a system to behold.
Today, from hence 10 years have past.  We have come far, my dear Dreamcast.
My memories are so fond of you.  With your swirled logo and VMU's.
And games, such games that I did play.  Games I still covet to this day.
Soul Calibur, with Maxi I did train.  Final Justice, yes I felt the pain.
Never did I play Shenmue, for I was busy with Power Stone's 1 and 2.
Jet Grind let me tag the streets, while listening to kick ass beats.
Blue Stinger made me repeat "YEAH" and "YEAH" and "YEAH" and "YEAH" and YEAH"
Of course, the one that did enthrall and was my favorite game of all.
Virtual On, you'll not be surpassed.  With mech style gaming that's just so fast.
Fei-Yen the Knight, hearts fly above.  Crush enemies with power, speed, and love.
I love you still, to this very day.  On X-Box Live, oh yes I still play.
So here's to you, my dear Dreamcast.  Thanx for great gaming in the past.
Tech has advanced this past decade.  But you're one of the best that's ever been made!

To celebrate the 10 Year Anni of the Dreamcast, one day either this weekend or next weekend, Lou, myself and a friend of ours will be playing a Non-Stop Power Stone 2 Marathon ALL DAY LONG.  Heh, I remember back then when I worked at GameStop, and customers asked me which system they should get, and I always told them the Dreamcast over the PS2.  LoL, I still hold to that choice even today.  Anyway, feel free to share some of your fun Dreamcast stories and such.

You know, I didn't see a topic for this show (I also didn't look), so I thought I'd make one!  Really, I think this is one of the most brilliant shows on TV, hands down.

Penn & Teller's Bullshit: Violent Video Games

I've been looking forward to this episode of the show ever since I saw it announced that they were going to do it.  Needless to say, it does not disappoint in any way.  While this link is available, I thought you all might enjoy this episode of the show.

Oh yeah, there's massive amounts of profanity, so be warned!  XD

Since I didn't want to clutter up the E3 Announcements thread with this long ass post, I thought I'd just make my own topic, LIKE A BOSS.  Anyway, I'll start with Microsoft.  (I promise, no more "NOT ZOE3"'s with this analysis)

As I mentioned, I can always go for more JEEP ACTION, and Microsoft is giving fans of Halo an expansion to Halo 3, and a new Halo game coming out...well whenever.  Sexy?  Well that depends.  JEEP ACTION is JEEP ACTION, but full game price for an expansion?  That is a little ballsy I think, but expansion could just be a relative term, and it could actually be somewhat of a new game entirely.  If that's the case, then yeah I can see it being worth the price.  Regardless, it's Halo, so you know what to expect, and that of course is multiplayer and people playing multiplayer who SHOULDN'T be that [tornado fang]ing good with the Battle Rifle!  The Halo: Reach game, as far as I know, has no info other than it's title.  So, not much to go on there.

Metal Gear Solid: Rising I really have no interest in.  LoL, not because I really want You-Know-What 3, but because I still haven't had a chance to play through the other Metal Gear's yet.  Obviously, it should be a huge game for Microsoft, so good for them, and good for the fans of the Metal Gear series.  Moving on, The Beatles: Rock Band I am definitely looking forward too.  Not that I have Rock Band, or have any room for it in my room.  However, a friend of Lou and myself is buying the [tornado fang] out of this game, new instruments and all, so he and his wife will probably give his Rock Band 2 equipment to Lou.  When that happens, I get take Lou's hand me down Rock Band 1 equipment and then play the game myself.  Well, except the drums.  Fuckity [tornado fang], I cannot drum.  Plus, it's The Beatles, and the game looks fuckawesome.

More to come of Microsoft in the conclusion...

Now, moving on to Nintendo, the big N immediately caught my oh so Nintendo fanboyish eye with New Super Mario Bros. Wii.  I mean, it's got 4 player Co-OP, Playable Toad (2 actually) and the Koopalings.  If that doesn't sound [tornado fang]ing awesome to anyone who grew up with classic Mario Bros games since they were young, then boo-urns to you! Fanboyism aside, Lou-igi and I will definitely play through that game.  Hell, the only thing that would make it more awesome, and would make Viewtiful Ben JIZZ IN HIS PANTS, would be 4 Player Koop-OP, choosing from the Koopalings!  8D

And if that wasn't enough Mario, they make a sequel to a Mario game that I thought was a fantastic, fantastic game, in Mario Galaxy 2.  This time, it has Yoshi and he's ridable, which will perhaps FINALLY get Hypershell to either buy the first Galaxy, and THEN get this.  Not to mention it's, according to Kotaku, 90% of new levels.  Also, not only was Galaxy a fantastic game, but it had SUCH a beautiful soundtrack, and one of my favorites of this generation.  So I can trust that there will be more beautiful orchestral music in this game.  Finally, I said it before and I'll say it again...this one BETTER have more Communist Flying Mario in it.  IT. BETTER!  XD

More to come of Nintendo in the conclusion...

Next up is Sony.  Now, as I posted before, I truly believe Sony demonstrated the most innovative new game there, and that was ModNation Racing.  The impression that I got from that game was that it was a fully customizable Mario Kart 64 game, and since Nintendo won't ever make a Mario Kart as good as MK64 (unless they try to copy this game, which they totally [tornado fang]ing should), this is an incredible idea.  Customizable Characters. Customizable Karts. Customizable Race Tracks.  Online Capability for racing, uploading & downloading of tracks.  More future downloadable content for racers, karts, and tracks (perhaps based on games like Street Fighter ala Ryu Sackboy).  Honestly, out of every game at E3, this is the one that impressed me the most.  I see so much vast vast potential in this game.  The only way I can see it being bad is if the karts handle like absolute, utter [parasitic bomb] (one reason I disliked Double Dash).  Customization or not, if it handles god awful, then I have no use for a awesome concept I can't play. So here's hoping my E3 #1 Announcement is as good as I want it to be.

In spite of that, Sony also has the category for the worst announcement that I thought came out of E3, which is the PSP Go!  LoL, sorry Wii Vitality Monitor, but you are a close second.  Listen, I love my PSP.  I play some great games on it, and from Sony's awesome line up of PSP games, more power to the system.  From what I saw, and please correct me if I'm wrong, the PSP Go's ONLY difference with the PSP is that it's $50-$75 dollars more expensive and instead of buying UMD's, you can download the games directly via the PSN.  It's nice to offer another PSP option, but Sony, the PSP is not the DS, and the Go! will not be the DSi.  The DSi has numerous different playful features, you can trade in your DS to get a DSi to lower the cost more, you still get to play your library of DS games, you lose out on your GBA games, and it's only a matter of $30 between the Lite and the DSi.  However, the PSP Go! does not give you that catalog of previous UMD PSP games to play on the new system, therefore you can't trade in your PSP to get a PSP Go!  Also, the Go is too similar to the PSP to warrant spending $50-$75 more than just buying a regular PSP3000, which in my opinion, looks more comfortable to play also.  Finally, lets not forget the fact that the majority of US PSP users use their system for Hacking purposes.  The systems sell, but the games do not.  The only way I can really see the PSP Go! selling is if it is easier to hack than the PSP3000.  Honestly, I think Sony completely dropped the ball on this one.  The one thing I could've seen making the PSP Go worth the extra $50-$75 would be if it's main screen was a touch screen.  Despite the plethora of bad "COPYING THE DS TOUCH SCREEN" PR that Sony would get, having a touch screen & stylus and not ever having to slide the system open to navigate the menu, play movies & music, go online & for typing, would have been a huge success for Sony and the PSP Go!  Then, you could market it as a better media device option as well, especially with the 16GB of Memory.  But they didn't, and thus I think this system will be a huge failure for Sony.  I could always be wrong though.

Okay, now for my final conclusion for each three...

Above everything else, I think each company did exactly what they needed to do this year (despite each one's flaws), thus making it a fantastic E3 for every fan of their respective favorite company or system. Microsoft's greatest strength for their system is EASILY X-Box Live, and once again they have further added to it.  Granted, as I said, Facebook is not the best of examples, due to it a social site devoted to finding previous high school classmats and stuff like that, which makes little sense to blogging, foruming social outcasts with whom a good portion hated high school and the people they were in class with.  However, Twitter is a fantastic move, due to Twitter's future of journalism aspect, not to mention more and more blogs & bloggers starting to use it.  Simply put, whether you like it or not, it is the future of Journalism.  Also, additions like Live.FM radio & Games On Demand are again, fantastic ideas, just further adding to what is already the best online service available for consoles.  The Zune HD market will most likely pick up, as the Zune HD looks sexy, and it's Live service looks great as well, and will continue to grow.  They showed a good amount of new games that fans of the 360 will most likely enjoy.

Nintendo did what they needed to do too.  This year, more than last year, they really did what their E3 vid slogan said about catering to everyone.  They showed a very good variety of games, for both of their audiences.  Wii Fit Plus will sell immensely.  Wii Sports Resort will sell immensely.  Unlike other companies, they don't need to highlight or try and push games to the "casual" market, cause they clearly already own it.  That Women Detective Game announcement showed that.  My mom would totally love that type of game.  Wii Sports Resort looks like just the most basic fun to me, plus the Motion Plus bundle will definitely the sales super high.  Above all else, they showed a good amount of new games that the "hardcore" gamers will enjoy.  The Metroid Team Ninja game was a fantastically JIZZ IN MY PANTS showcase, the Golden Sun DS game made a LOT of people happy, and there's nothing ever wrong with 2-3 new Mario games.  The DSi pics to Facebook thing is also cool, because unlike 360, a lot of DSi owners DO use Facebook, so that's a fun little gift for them (mostly the chicks).  Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles looks like it'll be fun for the Wii FF fanbase. Finally, judging by what I read/heard about the new Zelda for Wii, they did the absolute right thing in NOT showing a promo for it during their showcase showdown.  If they did, it could've possibly been the Wind Waker/Sony E3 2008 fiasco all over again.  Fanboy bias aside, I truly believe Nintendo did indeed cater to everyone this year, not just the gamers who make Nintendo mystically summon Money with Wii Fit sales.

Sony, above Microsoft & Nintendo, definitely did EXACTLY what they were suppose to do, and that was to actually give people a reason to spend $400 on the damn obelisk.  They. Showed. GAMES.  Their presentation was an orgy of games, both for the PSP & PS3.  Not just games mind you, but beautiful looking games and not just pictures of games and empty promises.  Despite my thinking the PSP Go! will fail, that doesn't mean they didn't show some [tornado fang]ing awesome looking PSP games.  I mean, you saw my opinion on ModNation Racing, but the trailers of The Last Guardian & God of War 3 made me want to go and buy the previous two games of both franchises.  MAG looks to be very interesting, despite my wanting to see more than the most basic of Call Of Duty 4 style FPS combat.  Uncharted 2 looks fun too.  More Final Fantasy XIII goodness will make people happy, and I'm sure the Final Fantasy XIV showcase, despite possibly upsetting the same FF fans who have NO desire to play XI, still gave the PS3 an exclusive EASY seller for their system, if it runs well.  LoL, and if Leonardo Da Vinci's inventions helping Assassin's didn't make you laugh, then shame on your sense of humor!  I said it long ago, that the PS3 does not warrant $400 for it's current game line up.  Now, albeit slowly, it's starting to, and that's exactly what Sony needs to do.  Mind you, I'm still unsure if people will plop down $400 for these games, but it's a LEAP in the right direction.

Each company definitely had its flaws though.  I'll get Nintendo out of the way, as my flaw with Sony & Microsoft are combined.  Nintendo's flaw was that they didn't quite show enough.  Granted, gamers are a greedy, unsatisfiable lot this generation, but either way Nintendo needs to show more.  Case in point, the Wii Vitality Monitor.  This was clearly a shameful presentation, and not for the WTF reason people think.  Iwata gives this very grand speech, and then shows the Vitality Monitor, another in a long list of Wiicessories.  The problem with this though, is that they didn't give a purpose to it, outside of monitoring your heart pressure.  If you want to use it for exercise purposes, show it with Wii Fit Plus.  Some think that it could be used with Horror games, or something like that.  Maybe the new Trauma Center for the Wii.  However, no real application for it was shown at all, and business wise, that is terrible for showcasing a new product.  Show this thing has potential, has growth, and has an actual purpose to it.  Maybe then gamers won't be so upset at you.  Granted, they will anyway, but still give us some sign of potential.  As I said, this will be the face of what gamers perceive to be the problem with Nintendo.  So yeah, Nintendo really needed to show people more.  Show more Zelda: Spirit Tracks, a game you know people will shell out money for.  Like with anime, you need to showcase your money make glory story with action & gameplay, not just with dialog.

Now onto Sony & Microsoft, and if you guess why I'm combining my flaw with them, yep that's right, it's the Waggle part of their presentation.  Keep in mind, I do think that they both looked pretty interesting, but both Sony & Microsoft are underestimating their fanbase.  The majority of both Sony & Microsoft's fanbase DO. NOT. CARE. ABOUT. MOTION. CONTROLLERS. despite how nice it may look.  They are trying to jump onto or grab a piece of the market that Nintendo now owns, lock stock & barrel.  The Wii is specifically catered to this market.  It doesn't matter that the Wiimote may or may not be as nice as Natal or Sony's Motion Controls, because the Wii is built upon the Wiimote.  Their games are built upon it.  Whether you like it or not, it was a gamble that completely payed off for them. Natal & the Sony Motion Controller will most likely only have select games built upon each, but not their entire library.  Really, all Sony & Microsoft are giving are accessories & attachments to their system that their primary fans do not care about, and the "casual" fans won't care about, because they own a Wii already. From what it looks like too, not cheap attachments either.  I mean, Sony's Motion Controller required 2 Wands & an Eye Toy. That CAN'T be cheap.  As I said above, a PSP Go! Touch Screen would have been a much better investment of money than this for Sony, much like the Zune HD was a great investment of money for Microsoft. Business wise, it may seem like a good move, but Sony & Microsoft have to understand that Nintendo owns the Motion Controller market of this console generation.  The "casual" gamers will not jump to your system for motion controls, and the "hardcore" gamers pretty much want nothing to do with the damn thing at all.  Sony & Microsoft did what they needed to do in showcasing the strengths for each of their consoles.  The only thing Project: Natal & Sony Motion Control did was absolutely prove that Nintendo's innovation was right on the [tornado fang]ing money. Literally.  Also, Sony...do yourself a favor next time, and DO NOT broadcast that your PS2 sales are as strong or stronger than your PS3 sales.  New system wise, it's not something to be proud of.  I thought the Latin America sales numbers were pretty funny too.

In closing (if any of you actually read through the damn thing), I do think that this was a fantastic E3 for all fans.  Each company played to their strengths and brought something new, fun, and surprising to the table.  That's all you can really ask for, especially in this age of instant information.  As a gamer, I'm very happy with this E3 and with each company's presentation.  As an arrogant prick, [tornado fang] I'm glad I own all three systems and didn't pay a [tornado fang]ing dime for them!   8D

Also, Lou will be stealing this.

Gaming / Sumthing Else & iTunes offering Capcom Soundtracks

Capcom Soundtrack are Sumthing Else

I just read this article on the Kotaku and I must say, I think this is a great idea.  Sure, the majority of nerds out there will probably simply download/torrent the soundtrack for free instead of using iTunes, not to mention from what I've seen, the majority of nerds out there dislike iTunes, however I think it's nice that they are actually offering it at all, since we really don't get many gaming soundtracks in the US, whereas they have an entire floor of a store dedicated to it in Japan.  If iTunes continues picking more game soundtracks up, then hopefully Amazon.com will as well.

Hopefully they might eventually get some Mega Man soundtracks up there as well.  If they do, I'll buy it.   8)

Original / Despite devolving robots, Wily was a murderous psycho
« on: April 13, 2009, 09:00:10 AM »
I mean, we've all seen the Super Fighting Robot MegaMan cartoon intro.  I mean, if you haven't, RPM mods do have the right to Temp Ban you until you do watch it. *must add to rules*  Anyway, getting back to my point, sure the Super Fighting Robot MegaMan cartoon was glorious, GLORIOUS 90's Cheese, but did you ever really notice the absolute murderous carnage in the opening?  I mean, when Wily unleashes his smiling Torpedos, the Cute Birds with Nitro Eggs of Death, NapalmMan, his Skull Car's OmegaMegaBeam, and BombMan, COUNTLESS [tornado fang]ing MILLIONS DIE.  This isn't like the original DBZ dubbing in which Nappa states the city was evacuated when it clearly shows people dying. (although it's dubbed by the same fun group).  I mean, Sizzling Circuits, countless people are brutally murdered when Wily unleashes his robotic firestorm of hell.  It gives his evil laugh more potency!

X / Mega Man X vs Maverick Hunter X - A PB Musical Analysis
« on: April 07, 2009, 06:52:10 AM »
Mega Man X vs Maverick Hunter X - A PB Musical Analysis

I thought I'd repost this.

LoL, before I begin, this is just my OWN personal analysis and should not be taken as fact or anything like that. I really like both soundtracks a whole lot. Basically, I was listening to both soundtracks and I decided to offer my own opinion and analysis of certain tracks VS one another, for the sake of amusement and to see other people's opinions about my opinions, as well as hear there opinions on the tracks as well. Now, except in the case of Viva Las Vegas, I pretty much ALWAYS prefer the original song as oppose to the remix and such. However, I'm being as open as possible about this and not letting personal bias get in the way. Well, as Mario says, Here We Go...

Password

LoL, since MHX has no Password song, I'll just get this right out of the way and give it to MMX.

Opening Stage - The Ruined Highway

I personally feel that the original MMX version flows better than the MHX version does. It's a tough call though, because the instruments that the MHX version adds to the song definitely makes up for it, I think. However, I'm going to give it to the MMX version for this track. It's superior flowmanship (making up words since 1980) I think works better myself.

VAVA 1 - Encounter With Vile

This one I'll easily give to MMX. It has a more epic, sinister, oh [parasitic bomb] he's in a giant invincible Ride Armor, feel to it than the MHX version.

VAVA 2 - VAVA Battle

However, for this, I'm going to have to give it to the MHX version. I just really liked this version better, as I tried to defeat my currently undefeatable foe. Plus, nice background sounds to it also, I thought. Hurray, a point for MHX!

ZERO

I'll give this one to MMX. I thought the drum (that's right, DRUM) work in the MMX version was better, plus in the MHX theme it cuts off the really cool part and gets perhaps a little too epic-y, if that's even possible.

STAGE SELECT 1

MMX, without question. The MHX version is good, but it doesn't have the same awesome opening "Soft sound leading into the Awesomeness" beginning to it. So this one goes to MMX.

Icy Penguigo/Chill Penguin Stage

This one I'll definitely give to MHX. I thought they did a very very good improvement on the frosty feeling of this stage. Especially the chilly music opening to the stage as well.

Launcher Octopuld/Launch Octopus Stage

This was a tough one for me to choose, as I've always loved the Octopus' stage. However, in the end I'll have to say the MHX version was indeed better. The sounds and techno beat they add to it really do the song great justice. Bravo, MHX!

Armor Armage/Armored Armadillo Stage

This one goes instantly to MMX. The MHX song cut down the awesome high paced speed of the MMX version, which I wasn't all that crazy about. Half the joy of the Armadillo's stage, besides the Hadoken, was the pure rush of jumping on that cart and letting loose your fully armed and operational Pink Mega Buster shot.

Storm Eagleed/Storm Eagle Stage

Okay, now this one, I'll admit, just isn't fair for me. Storm Eagle's stage is one of the greatest Mega Man tracks ever made. EVER. So any remix of it would have a really hard time to compare to the original. MHX came very very very close mind you, but ultimately I have to give it to MMX. I just prefer the guitar work and overall sound of it.

Burnin' Noumander/Flame Mammoth Stage

This one also goes to the MMX version. Even though they are actually very similar flow wise, I thought the back up guitar work is better in the original version of the track. Plus, the main guitar work (if you want to call it that) isn't as squeaky.

Boomer Kuwanger/Boomer Kuwanger Stage

This one was also a tough call, as I like both versions very much. The techno beat of the MHX version definitely adds to it, there's no doubt. However, the reason I give it to the MMX version is mainly because I think the opening and lead in to the loop of the song sounds a lot better.

Spark Mandriller/Spark Mandrill Stage

Okay, now hear was the toughest choice for me actually. Spark Mandrill is another stage that I consider one of the best song in all of Mega Man. Also, the MHX remix of this song is also my favorite remix out of all the MHX songs. It's truly awesome, as are both tracks. They are, IMO, equally good. There's only ONE reason why I think the MMX track is better, and that's SOLELY because of the Drum Solo that leads into the loop of the song, around 0:47 seconds into it. Hehe, you'll hear it, trust me. That Drum Solo is the only reason it scores higher.

Sting Chameleao/Sting Chameleon Stage

Without question, the MMX version is better. This was my least favorite remix in the MHX soundtrack. I wasn't fond of it at all. I didn't like the fact that they took out the backup guitar in the MHX version. The Backup Guitar makes the MMX that much more better, IMO.

Boss Apperance & Boss Battle

The MMX version of both is definitely more of an epic battle feel to it, so I'll be giving both to the MMX version.

Stage Clear

I really like the MHX version better, for some reason. I don't even know why.

Got Weapon

Also, I really like the MHX version a lot...but not more than the MMX version.

Dr. Light Capsule

Practically no change there really. So I'll give it to the fresh new sound of the MHX version.

STAGE SELECT 2

I don't know, I kinda found the MHX version lacking for some reason. LoL, this one I can't really explain why, so another point to the MMX version.

Sigma's Palace Stage 1

This was also a really hard choice for me, as this might be the 2nd or 3rd best remix on the MHX soundtrack for me. Ultimately though, I think the MHX version is a better version. They keep the suspenseful sting throughout the song, so that helps.

Sigma's Palace Stage 2

This is another really awesome remix from the MHX soundtrack. This one definitely goes to the MHX version, I think. They really added to the scope and feel of the song, I thought. Plus the guitar work simply kicks ass.

Sigma's Palace Stage 3

However, this Sigma Stage goes to the original. Although the MHX version did have a more eerie, Oooooooh I'm getting close to Sigma feel, the MMX version of it is just an overall better song.

Sigma's Palace Stage 4

The eeriness of this remix from MHX definitely helps add to the mood of going up the long corridor, to fight your hated foe. So MHX gets this one.

Sigma Battle 1

Even though they are very similar, I give this one to the MMX version because I just simply like the guitar work better.

Sigma Battle 2/Final Sigma Battle

However, for this track, I will definitely give it to the MHX version for the awesome grandness of it. LoL, the fight was still pretty easy, but still at least they made it seem much more epic.

Well, that's about it for my comparison. I'm curious to hear other peoples views on this, provided they have as much time on their hands as I do!  8D

Gaming / Explodemon: Please Be Bringing It On!

Explodemon via Kotaku

What's this now? A new 2.5D Platforming game from Curve Studios?  Lets see what they have to say about it.

Quote

Explodemon! is a 2.5D action platform game with an explosive main character. Mixing classic platforming action – from classics such as Mario and MegaMan – with the refined contemporary gameplay of Halo and Half-Life 2, it brings old-school gameplay bang up to date. Coming from Curve’s deep-seated love of video game culture and history, Explodemon! is wrapped up as a loving homage to SNES-era Japanese action games.

Explodemon! will release on PSN, PC and WiiWare in 2009.

I'm definitely interested in this.  It looks like a lot of fun!  Here's hoping!

Dear SEGA,

Never stop making SONIC games.

Your Fan,
PB

And here's why.  As I was gorging my ears on lots of Sonic songs last night, something hit me when I had the will to Fight The Knight. The Will to Fight The Knight.  THE WILL TO FIGHT! THE! KNIGHT!  WILLLLL TOOOO FIGHTTTTT, IN A WURLD...*ahem* Sorry bout that.  Anyway, while listening to Sonic music, all my problems with whatever game seems to just wash away, which is unique.  The music for Sonic games are among some of the best game tracks ever created, whether or not the game is way past cool, awesome, good, sub-par, sucks, or unplayable.  Despite all the flaws of Black Knight, I throughly enjoyed playing the game.  Despite people's outright hatred of Sonic Unleashed, to which they even complained about him going too fast, I [tornado fang]ing loved the hell out of it, even despite the Werehog, which I grew to like.  I'm even willing to go back and try Sonic 06, since my only sexperience with the game is the Demo at a PS3 event.

So, you know what?  I'm content with Sonic games being the way they are.  I'll just simply keep hoping for a return of Sonic CD/3&Knuckles Way Past Coolness, but for the most part, I'm content.

LoL, feel free to post your own reasons, if you have any.   8)

The game reunites the much-loved mean men of the World Video Boxing Association, who Little Mac must challenge and defeat one-by-one. The truly international line-up of characters includes all the wacky favourites from Von Kaiser, to King Hippo and tireless trainer Doc Louis.

The game brings the tactics and skills of boxing to Wii as you spot weaknesses in your opponent’s armoury – such as changes in their body position – and exploit them with your best upper cuts, hooks and jabs. However, this time the game packs even more power with bold new 3D graphics and the introduction of the motion sensing controls of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to give a more instinctive boxing experience as you weave, bob and duck your way to the top!

Punch-Out!! on Wii offers great new control opportunities, utilising both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to let you mimic the movements of the left and right hands as you let the leather fly. Meanwhile, the “classic” control system, invites you to use the Wii Remote in a sideways position to simulate the original NES controller and gives the real retro fight feel that Punch-Out!! fans love.

Punch-Out!! Will certainly bring the thrills of the big ring to Wii and will give you the chance to experience fight night in the comfort of your own living room. It’s seconds out and time for round one!

    ——————————

Get your gloves on and return to the ring – Punch-Out!! is making a comeback! Originally a hit on the Nintendo Entertainment System back when boxers still fought for 15 rounds, the newest installment in the series comes out swinging on Wii.

An intuitive control scheme takes you closer to the action in the ring than ever before! Unleash hooks, uppercuts and Star Punches by swinging the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, or flip your controller sideways to enjoy the classic NES control scheme.

As big-hearted Bronx brawler Little Mac, you’ll have to launch a one-man assault on the boxing world as you bid to become undisputed champ of the Minor, Major and World ranking organisations. Along the way you’ll lock horns with the likes of Glass Joe, Don Flamenco and the hard-hitting King Hippo. A total of 13 flamboyant fighters stand in your path, every one with a creative new way of trying to make sure you end up face-down on the canvas.

Thankfully, Little Mac can fight back. Armed with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, punching is a simple case of taking a swing at your opponent whilst holding different combinations of buttons. Soften them up with jabs by pressing up on the Nunchuk Control Stick when you punch, or crash home a super-charged Star Punch by holding the C or A Buttons as you let your hands go.

Of course, if you intend to master the sweet science you’ll have to learn how to hit and not get hit. Punch-Out!! calls on you to keep a close eye on your opponents and learn their attack patterns – hopefully leaving them swiping at fresh air and open to a crashing counter. If it all sounds like a lot to remember when the leather starts flying, you’ll be glad to know the game features a helpful tutorial mode to make sure you get to grips with the basics before you climb through the ropes.

Ultimately, you’ll no doubt want to make sure you’re rightfully recognised as the pound-for-pound king of the ring. Punch-Out!! includes a multiplayer mode that lets you and a friend slug it out to the bitter end. As in the single player mode, you’ll want to land punches at the right moment to build up Star Punch points that translate into almighty haymakers! Landing and dodging blows in Head-to-Head mode also builds up a Giga Mac gauge. Once full, your fighter is ready to inflict some serious damage.

Have you always thought you could have been a contender? Then get ready to rumble in the all-action Punch Out!! for Wii.

    * Fight it out in Career and Exhibition modes or challenge a friend in Head-to-Head mode.
    * Play using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk for a hard-hitting and immersive experience!
    * Go retro by holding the Wii Remote sideways like a NES controller and pounding home punches with a simple press of the 1 and 2 Buttons.

I believe that's the European release date, but who cares?  I can.not [tornado fang]ing wait for this game.  I've been looking forward to it since the Wii came out!   8)

LoL, you know, I'm pretty sure only Jelly, the Viewtiful one, and Ares might be the only ones to appreciate this mash-up, due to RPM's generally dislike of rap.

But man I thought this was awesome!   8D

Either way, these lyrics are different from my Parody Lyrics topics.  These lyrics are a awfully cheesily awesome English Translation of One More Time, and is more meant to describe, badly, what's going on!

Major thanx to Vixy for making this!  Enjoy!   8D

Though Mac was revered for his unlikely victory, the documentary is unsympathetic toward the boxer, who was eventually embroiled in a number of scandals, including suspicion of using performance-enhancing drugs to gain health between the first and second rounds. Experts have claimed his workout regimen of merely jogging behind his bicycle-mounted coach would not have been sufficient to build the strength he displayed in the ring.

« on: February 20, 2009, 09:48:51 AM »

Normally, I would just keep this in the At The Movies thread, but I thought a movie of this grand scope deserved it's on topic.  Now, it's probably safe to say that Watchmen is my most anticipated movie of the year.  Sorry Dragonball: Evolutions & Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, but Watchmen just beats you out.

Needless to say, my anticipation for this movie grows more and more each day.  I'm seeing more posters, I'm seeing more TV Spots, and I'm also getting feedback from places like the Comic Con ing-awesome.html]and from Wil Wheaton, that this movie is not only [tornado fang]ing awesome, but very very very true to the Graphic Novel from which the story comes from.  Not just in terms of the writing either, but also in terms of direct scenes from the novel itself.  Basically, technology has finally gotten to a point where this movie could be made.  Using the 300 style effects and such, there are literally scenes so awesome, it's just like watching the Graphic Novel itself.

For those who don't know, Watchmen is probably one of the most, if not THE most, famous Graphic Novels ever released.  Ever.  This book, as well as Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns pretty much changed comics forever.  Whether for good or for bad is a discussion that can go on for days.  However, they changed comics not because they were bad, but because they were so [tornado fang]ing good.  This movie is Rated R for a reason too.  This is not your typical Superhero story at all.  It's not Spider-Man, or Batman, or anything like that.  Do not go into this movie expecting a fuckton of action or anything like that.  It's the story itself that makes it so good.  Heh, for those MGS fans out there who did know, your boy Snake, David Hayter co-wrote the screenplay.  I'm sure that will make some people happy!

My tickets for the IMAX showing of this movie have already been purchased, and my showing is already sold out.  LoL, I haven't set the bar as high as my friend, who literally proclaims that "If I don't walk out of there thinking that this is the best movie ever made, I'm demanding my money back.", but my bar has been set pretty damn high.  I highly recommend that people go out and purchase the graphic novel either before or after the movie.  Either way, March 6th cannot get here fast enough for me.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, and now that I have some free time, allow me, Protoman Blues, to share with you the great joy and experience I had during the New York Comic Con of 2009.  So, without further delay, let us begin!

FABULOUS Secret Powers were revealed to me the day I held...actually, I'm not quite sure why they decided on a giant Faker instead of He-Man himself.  However, I don't run these things.  What sucks is that later on, I found out that the Mattel Booth was giving out free Blow-Up Power Swords.  Alas, I was too late to get one!   :(

However, onto cheerier stuff.  Look who was there to greet-a me at the entrance...

I wanted to ask about maybe giving his Final Smash a little more power to it, but there was much more Comic Con to go and much more to see.

Flux Capacitor...Fluxing!  You know, it's probably a good thing I don't have a lot of money, cause my house would be littered with ALL this kinda stuff.  Anyway, enough pictures.  Let's move onto some goodies.

If you read in the other topics, I had a brief chance to play Sonic & The Black Knight, Madworld, and The Conduit at Sega's booth.  I wasn't all that impressed with S&TBK, however The Conduit was awesome, and Madworld was fuckawesome!  S&TBK shall be rented via the Ninja Lou method before I decide whether or not to buy it.  However, Conduit and Madworld are must haves.  Moving on...

Ubisoft was the next stop, as it was right next to Sega's booth.  As you can see, there was nothing I could do about the name.  Once it's bannered up, it's pretty much a done deal.  Sadly, Laird was difficult to find, so alas, I have failed.  However, I did try to talk to some Ubisoft people, and they agreed with me that Cowabrawla would've been a much better Smash rip-off name!  Also, Turtles in MotherFuckin Time.  This was one of two Arcade Machines there.

Speaking of Arcade, Gabe & Tycho from Penny Arcade joined our NY Jamboree this year.  They are both very nice.  They told me the East Coast PAX is going to be pretty much exactly like West Coast PAX, with concerts, lots of gaming & classic gaming rooms, and all the things that make PAX awesome.  Needless to say, I'm really looking forward to East Coast PAX, as it should cost me SIGNIFICANTLY less to drive/train/$10 Chinatown Bus it up to Boston for the weekend, as oppose to a 6 hour Flight.  Since they had a special deal going on, Book + Shirt = $30, I decided to spendity spend some cashity cash.  I bought their 5th book, The Case Of The Mummy's Gold, along with this shirt...

<3 this shirt.  Also, I brought my sketch pad with me, and Gabe was nice enough to sketch Gabe for me for free...

Again, really awesome guys.  But there was still more Comic Con to go, so onward to adventure!

I actually forgot that the Ghostbusters game was going to be demoed here, but luckily I found it, and I got a chance to play both the Wii Version and the PS3 version.  Honestly, I thought the game was pretty awesome on both systems.  The PS3 version offers better visuals and according to the guy there, a more comprehensive story.  However, the Wii version had better controls that were more fun.  Gotta say, motion controlled Traps are bad-ass!  However, whichever system you get it for, it should be a blast!

LLLLLLLLLLLETS GET READY TO RUMBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.  Ready 2 Rumble Revolution was also being demoed at the Comic Con.  Sadly, I did not get a chance to play this, but the people who were playing it looked like they were having a lot of fun.  Some even dared to say that the game was awesome.  LoL, how about that!  Well, that pretty much does it for games, cept for a surprise at the end.  Now, onto more pics and comic book related stuff (some of you are skipping ahead, I know it. :P )

Zombie Invasion.  Luckily, they were after nice fat juicy chess-club brains!

PB & The 6th Doctor!

Now onto the DC Booth.  Watchmen is probably my most anticipated movie of the year.  I really really cannot wait to see it.  They had a panel on Saturday for the Watchmen movie where they showed 18 minutes of the film.  The crowd erupted in cheers and anticipation, as basically the script was practically line for line from the book itself, which is good.  Also, again those movie props are a perfect example of why it's a good thing I don't have a lot of money!   8D

I've always loved that Justice League drawing.  I was hoping one day, one of the many talented RPM artists could use that Justice League drawing as a basis to do an RPM Character drawing like that.  As for the 2nd pic, this is for DC's next big event coming out which I cannot wait for called The Blackest Night.  Green Lantern is my favorite comic right now, and I am looking forward to this very much.  Well, lets move from DC to Marvel.

Not much going on at the Marvel booth that I cared about, however, look who I bumped into?  Mr. Joe "With Great Power comes NO Responsibility" Quesada himself.  As you can see by the photos, I kinda wanted to punch him in the face for what he did to Spider-Man.  Alas, I didn't, as I like going to the Comic Con and he probably has Radioactive Banning Blood.

Honestly, this picture doesn't do her justice.  She had such an awesome costume, and fantastic cleavage as well.

I thought these two costumes were awesome.  Especially the original Kyle Rayner GL costume which I was always fond of.  I found out that the girl dressed up as the Huntress is the one who made the costumes.  She did a really good job on them.

This is a sketch of The Flash, Wally West to be exact, that Todd Nauck did for me, in about 15 minutes.  I have always been a fan of Todd Nauck's work ever since his days on Young Justice, one of my favorite Comics from back in the day.  I had a nice talk about Young Justice and Bart Allen (Kid Flash) with a girl in line in front of me.  She got herself an Impulse sketch which looked awesome.  If you want to see more of his art, you can check out his DA page.

Well, that about wraps it up for me.  Oh, except for the surprise game I found on my way out the door...

That's right.  DRAGONBALL EVOLUTIONS FOR THE PSP!  LoL, [tornado fang] YEAH.  Naturally, I had to try it out.  Oh man, what can I say.  It's similar to Budokai, except the energy attacks seemed to be....well missing.  Perhaps I was simply doing it wrong, or maybe it wasn't unlocked yet, or it could just be the possibility that the game sucks inert Dragonballs!  Either way, if your dream is to have a portable DB Movie based Budokai game with NO energy attacks, then this is definitely the game for you!

LoL, for those of you who actually took the time to read through all of this, thanx.  I hope you enjoyed this.  For me, this was the best Comic Con ever.  I managed to get a free 3-Day Ticket to the Comic Con because Activision was at my Comic Book shop on Thursday asking people to come debate about Marvel stuff, and if I agreed to do it, they would give me a free 3-Day pass.  Anyway, so when I show up to debate with them on Sunday, they had no need for me, which was GREAT, cause I usually hate debating Comic Book Nerds.  So, I got a free 3-Day Pass ($50 ticket) for doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

BEST. COMIC. CON. EVER.   8)

Forum Games / Overthoughts - The Total Extreme Over Thinking Topic
« on: February 01, 2009, 11:02:10 PM »
Hey there, RPM.  Have you ever thought about something from your youth, your hobby, your leisure time activity that makes no sense?  Now, have you ever truly thought TOO much about it, delving your brain and your logical mind into a matter that has no real relevance in life?  I know I certainly have.  Probably way too often as well.  But hey, that's the fun of logic, illogic, and creativity.

So now I give you a chance to share your "Overthoughts" as I like to call them.  LoL, have fun with them.  Oh, and here's an example:

While I was making myself a Sammich, I got the Bubba Duck song from Duck Tales in my head that Huey, Dewie, and Louie sing in class when Bubba comes to visit.  Then I got to thinking about how Bubba decided to abandon his prehistoric past and live with Scrooge instead, proving that he has some intelligence to want to live with the Richest Duck in the World!  XD

However, by doing this, Bubba has drastically altered history.  For all we know, Bubba was the first CaveDuck and his disappearance from that time line could off seriously alter humanity as we know it.  I mean, who knows what Bubba contributed towards Duck evolution and such.  For all we know, Bubba Clubba could've been what saves Duckmanity from a dinosaur attack, or Reptites (too much Chrono Trigger) or whatever.  Didn't Gyro think about this when he invented the Millennium Shortcut?  Talk about irresponsibility!

Why do I say worry?  Well, I saw the mention of an MMO of some sort, and I just hope it's not a MegaMan MMO of some kind, as that would make me question my "NO MMO" policy.  Heh, not like I could afford one now anyway.

However, speculation is just speculation at this point in time.  Who knows?  Perhaps it could be a MegaMan or dare I say, Power Stone Online Fighting Game.  LoL, I'll let the experts take it from here!   8)
