Fan Games / Re: Mega Man PC: CRORQ Chronicles - HELP NEEDED!
« on: October 20, 2011, 08:20:50 AM »
I never saw that thing at TV Tropes...

Anyway, I'm pretty swamped in real-life, so what I'd like to do is get all the files (grahpics, sprites, music, etc.) to someone who has the time and skill to finish this and let them take the reigns, with little guidance, and get the project finished.  Hopefully someone who is interested and has the skill will want to do so.

If you really want to take a look at it, I can always send the files to you.

« on: March 09, 2011, 08:20:02 AM »

I'm not sure how many people remember this project, but around the summer of 2008, I started working on a project to completely redo BOTH of the DOS games in the Mega Man series.  The general idea was to combine them both into one fluid game, editing the stage-select to have 9 robot masters available from the start, and adding in some of the Dreamworks bosses as fortress baddies.

Well, for personal and work-related reasons, the project has come to a stand-still since late-2009 or so.

Right now, all of the music has been completed, all of the sprite work and all has been done, and we've got a good layout for how the story (such as it is) should play out in the game.

The problem is that I myself no longer have time to work on this project, so I am hoping to find someone that is skilled at game design, and who has the free time, to pick up this project and see to it's completion.  I think the fans deserve that much.

If you are interested, feel free to reply to this thread.  However, it may be faster to simply email me at:  jesseebrownjr@gmail.com

Thanks!

News and Announcements / Re: Mega Man 10 to be released on March 2010
« on: December 15, 2009, 08:19:31 PM »
I knew there would be a Rockman 10 one day, but I truly did not expect it this soon!  I mean, it seems like not all that long ago that we were excited about Rockman 9 coming, and then here's number ten.  This isn't a bad thing at all, though, although I'm hoping that they spent the time to make it a quality game, rather than simply rush something out to milk the series out some.  It kind of reminds me of early-1990s when you'd see at least one major MM game per year, and I've always thought MM4-6 were just...okay.  I think this game should have been made more in the R&F style, but I guess it was easier to work with what they already had?

Regardless, this title to me has a lot of potential.  Perhaps it will (due to its story) give a couple more clues to the bridge between Classic and X.  I also find it interesting that this story is so similar to "Super Adventure Rockman" in many ways.

While I'd probably rather see MMX9 or MML3 made before this one, I know I'll be playing it when it comes out (apparently not all that long from now!).  owob

Hmm......... I'd love to help considering I'm already doing the engine part. Unfortunately, I'm already involved partly helping with MegaPhilX's game. Not to mention I'm a bad level designer, graphics designer anyway. Though it may work if I had the graphics, level layouts done, and robot masters done. But I don't know...... Hard to decide what I want to do. X_X

Well, think about it some and get back to me.  If you did pick this project up, you would of course have the support from kind folks like Gauntlet who would, no doubt, be able to help you and give you advice.

Fan Games / Mega Man PC Remake Needs a new Lead Designer!
« on: December 07, 2009, 06:14:52 PM »
Hello everyone!

By now, some of you are probably aware that there is a full-fledged remake of the DOS Mega Man games in progress (it has been going on since June '08).  Although there I have been primarily the one working on it, with some great help from a core group of people, I am in need of someone to, as soon as possible, pick up the project for me and carry on the work (and heck, maybe even finish it?).  You see, in January 2010 I will be shipping off for training with the Army National Guard, after which I will be going off to Officer's Candidate School.  With those two events, and additional training and drill requirements, I will probably be away from the project for quite some time.  As such, I don't think it would be fair to put the entire thing on ice until a later date, especially when someone else (with experience) could pick it up and continue with it.

If you are interested in this prospect, you can leave me a message here, reply to this thread, and/or send me an email at: jesseebrownjr@gmail.com

You can check out the project's forums as well at: http://megamanpc.webs.com/apps/forums/

Thank you for you interest!  owob

I will definitely vote whenever I can compile a list of favorites here - there are SO many categories that it's rediculous (but in a good way).

As for the undecided time that it's going to end on December 17, you should make it 12:17 PM (in whatever time-zone you choose), so it will be 12/17 at 12:17.  owob

I'm glad these folks did this too.  They were a very dedicated group, and even though the marathon was supposed to be 48 hours long, they played close to 60 hours, and even had to return Monday evening to finish "Mega Man X8" (they got to the end early that morning, but they stopped because they were so tired that they weren't doing well).  owob

The one thing I'm kind of sad about is that they didn't even raise $100.00 (I think it ended up being $85.00), even though they allowed donations to continue till Wednesday or so.  Perhaps next time they do something like this, even if non-Rockman, everyone can advertise a bit more (I think that, the economy, and their audience's age contributed some).

Well, it was only a matter of time (hey, there's a LoZ subtitle) before Zelda was Link's partner.

But man, between Mario going into space for the fate of the universe and now Master Fairy/Zelda partner plots, I'm starting to think Nintendo's overdoing it!

Also, who else seems bewildered by their 'future' responses?

Were it me, I'd make the Wii last 7-8 years, wait for HD affordability and try out new IP's, then release a full 1080p/Blu-Ray/full online play w/ games and VC console.

It's interesting that you suggest that, because there has been talk for a long while now of a "Wii HD" system coming in 2010 or early-2011.  It's supposed to be backwards-compatible with the Wii and GC, upping the resolution and all.  Not sure what else to say about it, really, but you can look it up on Google and you should find some stuff about it.

Just wondering, does anyone have a clean version of the PAL/JP boxart? I wanted to use it as my desktop, but the one in the official UK site gets really pixelated.

Box art of what?  Spirit Tracks or something else?

Huh. I'm gonna go find that now, hopefully.

Well, I have the actual game, and I'm going to post some detailed info in my gaming blog, but I've posted a little bit about it already.  I got the game off of TaoBao (from TaoBaoNow!), and maybe one day I'll dump it if I get the stuff I'd need to do that with.  We'll just have to see.

Awesome!  Aside from its inclusion of previous RMs, this picture fits the bill for Rockmen R quite nicely!  Thanks for posting it!

For what platform?

The Chinese version?  It's an 8-bit Famicom version of the SNES game.

What is Triforce of the Gods again?

Triforce of the Gods was released as "A Link to the Past" outside of Japan for the SNES.  I ordered a Chinese, 8-bit version of the game (mainly for nostalgia and collector's reasons), and it's pretty good, though there are a few differences.

Holy Fuckballs, this Hack is Becoming the Ultimate Megaman Experience

too bad it can never be converted to a repro cart because it uses the MMC5 Chip

You could always get one of those NES flashcarts as long as the ROM is a valid .NES file.  But yeah, this looks awesome, and I love how Drill Man is like an early version of Ground Man, though he actually changes the environment when he drills!

Original / Re: Youtube Debate MM2 or MM3 (Timeline Updated)
« on: November 06, 2009, 06:28:34 PM »
This is a really good debate, and I guess I'll throw my two-cents in here.

Each game in the series has its strong points and weaknesses.  For example, the original game features some famous Robot Masters, a point system (which I happen to like), and an inability to save your game at all, which just ends up making it more challenging.  Each later game added something to the franchise, whether something relatively minor like a Rush Adaptor, or something big like the slide, buster, or the ability to access a store to purchase goodies at.  Some games don't feel as complete as others, perhaps because they were relatively rushed in design or because the designers were a bit lazy (MM6 comes to mind here).

When it comes to MM2 and MM3, both of these are favorites of mine.  Mega Man 2 introduced some major series staples, such as having a total of 8 RMs, E-Tanks, and a fortress with a map to it.  Mega Man 3, on the other hand, introduces the slide (which changes gameplay quite a bit), the idea of someone/something else being suspected for recent events, the introduction of Proto Man, and the inclusion of stages after the first 8 but before Wily's fortress.  Each game has a fun cast of Robot Masters (some really neat, some rather odd) and a memorable musical score.

If I had to rate these games, both of them would be in the "A" range, but I think Mega Man 3 would score about a point or two higher than MM2 (maybe a 94 or 95% for MM2 and a 96% or so for MM3).  I've always found MM3 to be a bit more challenging than MM2, not necessarily in the fortress or RM stages, but moreso with the Doc Robot stages.  The stage designs in MM3 were a bit more clever than in two, and I also really enjoyed its subtle graphical upgrades.  The music in MM3 is also quite nice, with some rather memorable tunes, though I think in that department MM2 would have the upper-hand (just think of how many songs from that game have been remixed!).  Even though MM2 receives so many hacks and all, I think MM3 deserves to have a few more well-done hacks.

I could probably go into a lot more detail on this subject, but I'll leave it at that for now.  ;)

I finally got the obscure 8-bit version of "Zelda: Triforce of the Gods" that was produced by the Chinese developer Waixing Computer Science.  I intend to do a full write-up on it sometime, but I have yet to beat it because of some changes to the game that make things harder to find, etc.

They really missed an oppotunity in the WS game.  Given the nature of the RMs, it might have been nice if they resembled an early version of Reploids (like a missing link).  Since they're from the future and all.

I don't really like any of the art in the game.  The Shadow sprite looks like it's meant to be based off MM's MM8 sprites.  It might be that MM looked like that too (since so many things seem to be based off the SNES RnF), but was changed as the art progressed.  Pure speculation on that tho.

It would have been good for those robots to be more advanced.  I mean, they come from mid-20XX, so you'd think there'd be some upgrade in technology by then, but apparently not...

@Megaman Rock 963: One day, after I finish some other projects, I might make a full remake of this game (either in NES or SNES style), with perhaps 2 more RM's to fill in the gap.

Speaking of the Devil...Do you think this game Should be Official (Obviously i mean Do you think Capcom could have Made this?)

Of course, Capcom "could" have made this (just as they could make any game they wanted), but they obviously didn't.  That aside, it's a pretty good game for a non-Capcom Rockman game.

@Gauntlet: What evil girl are you talking about?  I guess I missed that one...Still, I think "Piano" is an interesting addition to the cast (official and not), though more could have been done with her, I agree.

I want this game, but its not for sale anymore. If anyone knows how I can obtain it, please PM me.

If you want a legal copy of the game, you'd have to check somewhere like TaoBao, Eurotaku, or Rakuten International (those sites have had it before and, even though it's not being produced anymore, they still get used/unopened copies from time to time).

Unfortunately, I don't intend to distribute a copy of the ISO to anyone other than those who have already received it, but maybe someday someone else will release it publically if they are so inclined.

@Keno: Vixy could probably help you with giving a translation of the game's options.  I basically figured it out by trial and error myself.  I'm not sure what exactly some of the options on the top of the page do, but the others allow you to change the keyboard settings (which, if you want to use a controller, you could do with Joy2Key).   The last set of choices (bottom-right) asks if you want to use the default settings or use these (bottom choice).

Actually, what really bothered me about the sprites was how the more humanoid characters like CompassMan and RockMan Shadow were drawn in a very different style from RockMan and Forte.  If RockMan Shadow is a copy of a future RockMan, then shouldn't his body type match the RockMan you play as a little better?

You're right.  Since R-Shadow is a robot based on the future Rockman's design, you'd think he'd look at least somewhat similar to him.  Heck, at least the artwork for a boss like him should be drawn in a similar fashion as that used to draw Rock.  Perhaps he looks different because he is basically a modified/different version of Rock.  Or, perhaps more likely, Bandai didn't think like we do when they made this game.

Honestly, this game isn't that good. It's OK, it just needs a lot more polish. Mega Mari was smoother.

I thought Rockmen R was pretty good.  It has a great soundtrack and some rather interesting bosses.  However, there are quite a few glitches/bugs that occur every now and then throughout the game, and it can be frustratingly hard due to those and some of the crazy stage layouts.

Under Cain's guidance, but not as commander. The Rockman X Chou Hyakka has a basic diagram of Hunter unit groups, and Cain is listed as an Advisor over all the units, but it also shows an upper department of Hunter brass that went above him, the Hunter general they were talking about is likely a member of that higher group.

Interesting.  You'd think at the time Cain would have been leader of the Hunters (didn't he found the organization?), but then again that doesn't have to be the case.

We kind of already knew that Rock was disarmed and living peacefully in Quint's future. The WS game just went with what World2 said. From that same story, we knew Wily had retired, but was tricked by his past self into helping him kidnap Rock. What the WS game adds to this whole story is that Wily did not continue his evil ways, Rockman Shadow destroyed that future and warriors that could beat him only existed in the past.

I think the game has a pretty nice plot. You just need to realize that Rockman Shadow is considerably different from Quint, despite the many similarities. I just think the game could have done without the sudden flashback art shift, and that CompassMan could have gotten more meaningful lines.

Interesting.  You know, I really don't remember CompassMan (or Compas Man?) having any lines in the game, but then again, it's been a long time since I've played it.  What exactly does he say?  And, I also wondered what his role was in the game, considering he didn't give you a weapon or anything.

RM Strategy is odd in that you have to buy your level ups and you don't automatically do so.  Since I couldn't even read it, I just used the Cheat-O-Matic to keep MM at full health (and finding his health number was tricky, I tells ya!) and "freezing" the timer.  But they even kill you with the powerups you buy?

So it's a comic in XZ Advent.  Hm.  Not exactly a ringing endorsement of it's continuity, but it shows that capcom is willing to accept it ... which is probably as good as we'll get, I guess.

I think they'd have added RMS and the PC games for the same reason they have the odd box art and the Nintendo Power art: it's of interest to the Japanese fans.  I don't think it has to do with quality ... the story of RF WS isn't all that great either (it's like MM forgot who Quint was all of a sudden), but that game is referenced on every single site in the Japanese fanbase.  It's very well known there.

I always thought that RFWS was a shitty game, but that its story was half-way decent.  It turns out that these robots who are attacking Symphony City come from the time-period that Wily traveled to in order to learn from their technology and capture the disarmed Rock.  However, "R-Shadow" isn't Quint, although he tells Rock that he is at some point.  It turns out, in the end, that he was simply a robot Wily built using future technology, but that he was discarded and Wily instead simply captured Rock and turned him into Quint.  If nothing else, this tells us that come mid-century (204X or 205X) Rock is disarmed and living a somewhat peaceful life.
