Off The Wall / Linkin Park gets their own.. Gundam?
« on: September 16, 2010, 07:01:10 AM »
I wasn't sure if this belonged in Entertainment or what, so this works.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-09-15/linkin-park-rock-album-to-bundle-gundam-plastic-model

Quote
Warner Music Japan has announced on Wednesday that the American rock band Linkin Park is contributing a theme song for Bandai Namco Games' Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. arcade game. In addition, a deluxe box of the band's newest album, A Thousand Suns, will bundle a limited-edition Gundam plastic model ("Gunpla") in Japan on November 24.

...

The album's Gunpla 30th Anniversary Edition will include a HGUC 1/144 RX-78GP01Fb Gundam GP01Fb Full Vernian "Linkin Park Edition" plastic model kit. According to their official Japanese website, the members of the band are big fans of the Gundam robot anime franchise, and they designed the custom color scheme of the model. The Gunpla Edition will feature special box art with the band members and the Gundam design.
I like Linkin Park.

I like Gundam.

Awesome.

I may just have to try and get this when it comes out. I mean, I already own A Thousand Suns, but really.. I ended up buying 3 copies of Meteora due to my sister losing 2 and I own two copies of Minutes to Midnight (was given the second). None of those came with anything extra. A Thousand Suns already gave me a shirt, a Gundam model would be even better!

Off The Wall / Face Paint
« on: October 20, 2009, 06:41:33 AM »
Halloween is here and I wanna paint my face. With long hair, grease paint gets kind of annoying because the hair sticks to the paint. Being a wrestling fan, I've seen alot of guys with longer hair and face paint not have that problem. So to get right to it..

What kind of face paint is he using in this video? Water based?

Gaming / CWCheat on PSP 2000, CFW 5.00 M33-6
« on: September 10, 2009, 08:19:10 PM »
Alright, before anyone says google, I've already tried. Go [tornado fang] yourself. I need a more personal touch.

I've tried a few times to get CWCheat on my PSP Slim. However, whenever I activate any plugins in the Recovery Menu, my PSP simply won't go to the XMB menu. I can shut off the PSP and turn it back on and the screen remains dark. However, once I remove the memory stick, everything works fine and I can put the memory stick back in and keep on trucking. This is annoying as hell.

Also, when I could get CWCheat to show up, I couldn't get any cheats to load. Most menu's often resulted in nothing but black lines and nothing to choose, rendering the plugin more or less useless. I don't know what I'm doing wrong here. I've followed tutorials, got the latest version and it still doesn't wanna work. Whats up?

Anyone PSP gurus here able to help me out? Also, I wasn't sure if this counted as emulation, so feel free to move it.

Off The Wall / My stove exploded
« on: August 20, 2009, 12:33:06 AM »
So, a few days ago, I was doing dishes in the kitchen as my mom was making dinner (an excellent meat loaf). All of a sudden, we hear this loud buzzing. Okay, what the hell. We look to the stove and its [tornado fang]ing glowing. First thought is "fire!". In my infinite genius, I OPEN THE STOVE to get a better look. Though, for what its worth, I only managed a glimpse because I only held it open for about a second.

Immediately, I turn the stove off. It gets worse. Oh [parasitic bomb]. We both back away and at this point, the buzzing is ridiculously loud and the inside of the stove starts going off like fireworks. At this point, my mom and I haul ass. She actually may have broken her small toe because she hit it on the table and knocked it a good 3 or 4 inches out of place. We both end up on the floor in the dining room. We wait a moment and everything seems to have stopped. The kitchen is [tornado fang]ing filled with smoke.

After a few moments of opening windows, we're able to safely open the stove. This is what we see:

[spoiler][/spoiler]

What you're looking at is the bottom of the stove, the filament I think its called. It generates the heat for cooking the food. You're looking at a good half inch missing. Here's a comparison shot:

[spoiler][[/spoiler]

Not the best shots in the world, but you can clearly see what the right side should look like and what the left side does look like.

Luckily, what seems to have happened is it blew the circuit it was on which cut the power to it so it didn't end up worse than it could've been. It was a [tornado fang]ing intense experience and scary as hell.

Also, the meat loaf was okay and turned out delicious.

Gaming / Gundam Vs Gundam Help
« on: July 03, 2009, 11:06:18 AM »
I know there was a topic about this game already, thanks to the wonderful search engine, but it hasn't been touched since about November and I was going to necropost that out of hell :P

So, I recently picked this game up. I'm getting my ass kicked mainly because I have no [tornado fang]ing clue whats going on. I've searched for a guide, but the only one I found was an absolutely horrendous piece of [parasitic bomb] opting to do the most fuckheaded things such as replace U,D,L,R with [tornado fang]ing numbers (because when you're trying to figure out whats going on, NUMBERS are gonna make it so much simpler) and other awful guide writing stuff.

Basically, I'm needing controls. The one thing the guide did specify is that I'm going to be pushing quite a few buttons for some of the heavier attacks (shame it went with the retarded numbers scheme). I know some of you were looking into this game, and have played it (PB, you magnificient bastard), so could I get some help here?

Off The Wall / So, I wanna watch some giant robots
« on: June 28, 2009, 04:49:03 AM »
Wasn't sure if this belonged in Anime & Manga since its more of a suggestion topic.

So, RPM, I'm bored. Only twice have I actually gotten into anything involving large robots, that being Gundam Wing and Neon Genesis Evangelion. Really, I think the only reason I feel like watching something is all Marka Gatha's fault, what with the shining finger nonsense.

So basically, what this is is I'm wondering if G Gundam would be something good just to sit down and watch without any prior knowledge. Thats really what I'm looking for. Something I can just jump into without worrying too much about what the hell else is going on, though I am open to other suggestions.

What say you?

Gaming / Dreamcast Issues
« on: June 25, 2009, 05:50:52 AM »
Tonight, I took my Dreamcast apart to clean it. It was looking grimey due to my sister leaving it on her floor when she borrowed it like 2 years back and I had never gotten around to it. The open button was also stuck, so I figured before I played Sonic Adventure 1, I may as well get it wiped down.

I was very delicate taking the machine apart. The only part that needed to be cleaned was was mainly the top half, so nothing was needed around the innards. I wiped it down, got all the funk and gunk off of it and before I put it back on I used a damp q-tip to rip down some bits on the bottom that had gunk on them (like the controller parts on the inside, nothing near the back).

After drying it, I put the machine back together and went to start it. It wouldn't turn on. I [tornado fang]'d with it a bit, turning it on then off, then removing the top carefully again and turning it on to see if anything was off. It worked fine, powered up. Except now, it takes me to the date screen and after about 2 seconds, the screen goes black and nothing happens.

Despite my best efforts, could there be some sort of water damage or if water did get inside, will it dry out and hopefully be fine? If not, whats causing it?

Gaming / Hey, RPM. Help me pimp my PS2.
« on: June 19, 2009, 11:02:02 AM »
So, what with Garou: Mark of the Wolves not getting a US PS2 release and King of Fighters 2002 UM being awhile before it gets a US release, if it gets one, oh and don't forget Melty Blood: Act Cadenza, I decided that I should look into importing (because I love my fighters).

Before anyone says "Google", I already googled it. What I'm wanting is advice. I've read about the SwapMagic and Slide Hook as well as the Memory Card with the modchip already inside it. These are the two I'm looking at as I don't really wanna crack open my PS2. I don't trust myself, really.

So has anyone tried any either of these or something like them and what would be the most trustworthy places to get materials to do so from?

Off The Wall / So I had a thought

I was jamming to the Duck Tales theme the other night when I had an epiphany.

Dr. Wily II reminds me of Ludwig von Drake.

X / The Z Buster
« on: May 27, 2009, 09:51:05 AM »
What exactly is the power this thing packs in X5 and X6? Its slow in X5 and pretty meh, but everyone where I've read about X6 says its more powerful. I've notice both seem more powerful at close range, but other than that I really don't see how much energy these things take from an enemy. Anyone got any info on it in comparison to the X Buster?

X / Maverick Hunter X, because I'm like 4 years behind you guys
« on: May 12, 2009, 11:07:25 PM »
So, I pirated MHX. I know, how terrible. I like to try a game before I waste my money on it. My thoughts?

As an enhanced version of Mega Man X1, it was lacking. X1 is generally received as perfection and to top it is a challenge not to be taken lightly. In fact, this would've been better as Mega Man Xtreme 3 or something. It just doesn't stand up to the original. I can safely say that because I beat X1 about 4 or 5 days ago :P

Now, it does have some things that were nice additions. Being able to use multiple maverick weapons after charging a rolling shield? Awesome. Hadoukening Final Sigma? I've been waiting to do that. And the voice acting wasn't all that bad, but of course, they had the stereotypical retarded Maverick, which always iritates me. Why does a big robot have to be dimwitted? It also bugged me that they also added the stereotypical "fabulous" robot. They did it to Elec Man and it sucked and then they did it to Launch Octopus and guess what? It sucked.

Negative things were abound, though. The story is terrible. I simply refuse to acknowledge it as canon until I'm forced to. Day of Sigma was dumb and then all this BS about Vile just being batshit insane and just doing his own thing. Meh. I also didn't like how they changed some things around like the entirety of the Sigma Palace. More reason to have just made a new game with new layouts. I also didn't like how they put Vile so far back so you're using this really shitty buster most of the game if you want Zero's or the fact you can beat Vile at the beginning of the game. It was such a [tornado fang] you for the first boss to kick your ass back in the day and now its just meh. The music also doesn't hold a candle to the original, not even close.

But who played the game for X? Everyone knows the money was in Vile. His story? Absolutely terrible. But I loved the gameplay. It was something different, it was challenging. The only negatives I found in playing were the lack of a dash that was at least semi rectified with the speed booster and the terrible Ride Armor time limits which made getting some sub tanks and hearts unnecessarily difficult. Also, maybe its just me, but was the music the same in every stage? It sounded like it. Guess just using the normal stage themes were just too much.

Either way, despite pirating it, I'm considering going out and paying money to own it. I like owning hard copies and I gladly pay cash for games I enjoy. I'm almost kinda sad there won't be an MHX2. Only almost. As long as we can avoid more Powered Up games.

Also, I totally wish you could've played as X1 Zero. Thats just me.

Entertainment / RPM, Lend me your ears!
« on: March 25, 2009, 11:09:54 PM »
Alright, so, I enjoy music. Of course I do. Who doesn't. You don't? GTFO then.

Anyways, I'm looking for a certain type of music and I'm not exactly sure what its called. So to keep this easy, lets give you examples, shall we?

Well known songs are One Winged Angel, Dancing Mad, Solaris Phase 2 from Sonic 06 as well as the original vocal version, Metallic Madness Present, and of course Cannon Ball by Inti Creates.

Less known songs are as follows:
Revolutionary Etude ~Rii (Theme of Adelheid) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkRj8xXPl0M&feature=related
The RR (Theme of Rugal) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJsIYYK1BZM (Its near the middle/end when the organ kicks in)
Dark Side (Undertaker WWF Theme) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8rulRbz4n8&feature=related
Just Close Your Eyes (The Beginning Into the Main Song, really) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5jbo7lxPqc

I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but as you can see, all of these are either video game or wrestling. My point is, I'm looking for songs like these that can take a good orchestrated sound and modernise it, or add piano/violin to really enhance the experience. I mean yeah, any [Bumpity-Boom!] named Jun Senoue can wail on a guitar and call it music, but when it blends, wraps and fully matches with better instruments such as the other two, its great.

Basically, my friends. These are the type of songs I'm looking for. Whether they be video game, anime, whatever. I just wanna indulge in the beauty of a classical instrument modernised.

Or, in the case of most of Dancing Mad (parts 1-3) plus Requiem In D. Minor "K.626" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnoDVG6gHhQ), just great classic sounding stuff. Its funny how I never got into the stuff that we all learn about in music class, but this [parasitic bomb] appeals to me and I would greatly appreciate your help, ninjas.

Edit: I'm also totally aware that Wolfgang Krauser's theme, K.626 is Mozart, so yeah.

Original / Gotham's Mega Man Rush
« on: March 23, 2009, 08:25:06 AM »
Hi, I'm Gotham, that guy you probably don't care about with a love of fighting games if you've seen what few topics I've posted =P

Lemme level with you, Rockfans. Despite being a Megaman fan, I've only got a handfull of games under my belt and for the longest time, none of them were the NES/SNES games. My first game was actually Rockman & Forte SNES via emulator, and even then I didn't even like the game. Where am I going with this? Well, with my unusually nocturnal sleeping pattern and a lack of anything to do, I've decided to stop pussyfooting and go ahead and bum rush the games.

Actually, the more I write, the more I realise how pointless of a topic this is, so if there's really no use for it, staff can feel free to punt this [sonic slicer] right up on out of here, but I figured someone on RPM might get a laugh at my amazing failures as I chronicle my run through an assload of Megaman games =P

Anyways, here's the list/order of the games I'm going through, including already completed ones:

Mega Man (NES) - Completed!
Megaman Megaman (PSP) - Completed!
Mega Man 2 (NES) - Completed!
Mega Man 2 Hard Mode (NES) - Completed!
Mega Man World (GB) - Completed!
Mega Man 3 (NES) - Completed!
Mega Man World II (GB) - Completed!
Mega Man Wily Wars: Wily Tower (GEN) - Completed!
Mega Man 4 (NES) - Completed!
Mega Man World III (GB) - Completed!
Mega Man 5 (NES) - Completed!
Mega Man World IV (GB) - Completed!
Mega Man (Game Gear) - Completed!
Mega Man 6 (NES) - Completed!
Mega Man World V (GB) - Completed!
Mega Man 7 (SNES) - Completed!
Mega Man 8 (PSX) - Completed!
Rockman & Forte (SNES)
Rockman & Forte Mirai kara no Chōsensha (WS)

There's three games missing from the list, due to my inability to actually play/emulate them. Those are Mega Man 1 & 3 PC and Mega Man 9. The DOS games will be easier to emulate once I can get my hands on A) A new desktop or B) A Pandora. 9 will come eventually if for some reason, Capcom suddenly gives us a DS/PSP release or when I finally sell my soul for the PS3.

Either way, this is gonna definitely be something else and its definitely gonna be an experience. This series is the man one I've really not gotten into despite it being the starting point. I've beaten all the X games (besides GBC), I've beaten all the Zero and ZX games. I own Legends 1 and beat it and one day I'll get around to 2 and Tron Bonne. I just don't care for EXE or Starforce.

So yeah, sit back, laugh at me, kick this topic out of existence, whatever. But this is definately gonna be a hoot :P

Gaming / Savestates ruin gaming experience?
« on: March 20, 2009, 11:45:57 AM »
As I posted elsewhere,

Something I've kinda noticed as I've been playing alot of games through emulation (because I'm poor and emulation is awesome!) is how savestates effect the experience of certain games.

Obviously, savestates have their uses. There's the technical [parasitic bomb] which I won't even get into becuase I don't use it for any of that. The best example of using savestates are in games where there lacks a save feature, such as Ristar, the classic Megaman games, or even Sonic 2. Usually, in this way, its saving after you complete a level, as its a convenient way to save your progress without having to start from the beginning. Hell, alot of the reason I don't ever bother with the emeralds in Sonic 2 is because I know by the time I have them, there will be very little use for them and its really a waste of time for me. In the Megaman games, its because sometimes those games can be [tornado fang]ing infuriating and having a save spot to rest after every level is [tornado fang]ing nice :P Its also handy in some fighting games for bosses that you only get one chance at, such as Akuma in SFA or Final Bison in SFA3. Sure, its kinda pussing out, but it gave me the practice I needed to actually beat them later on legit without having to go through a whole playthrough again.

But then there's rampant savestate abuse. I'm guilty of this and have been curbing it because I really do think it ruins the experience. Again, Megaman is a good example for this. Saving in the middle of a level before a spot I know I'll die several times at, saving just before the boss so I can redo it over and over until I win. Just general abuse of savestates that isn't at all what the original point of the game was and even defeats the purpose of playing it. Its one thing to save to keep your spot in case you need to put it down and come back later or whatnot. Its another to save after everytime you get a successful attack and the reload if something doesn't go your way so you can continue as if nothing ever happened.

This was just something that popped into my head and I figure I'd get you fuckers opinions on it. My view is that savestates can ruin a gaming experience when abused, as I've experienced it first hand, and its really shitty. I like savestates for reasons stated in the first paragraph, being as I can save my game after a level or two in games that have no saves. So, what about you?

Something to add since I originally posted this is I have played through Megaman 1 again (which is my initial example in this thread) and aside from saving my progress after each boss, there was really no use of save states. From Wily Stage 1 to Wily Machine Part 2, I played without saving until I beat the game. It was a much more enjoyable experience to say "EAT ROCK BUSTER" knowing I did it without the crutch of using a savestate over and over to do it. It was definately worth it and in the end I do think savestates can really ruin the original game.

Gaming / The King of Fighters 98 Ultimate Match
« on: March 15, 2009, 08:15:08 AM »
After a generous trade in at Gamestop, I decided to pick up King of Fighters 98 Ultimate Match for the PS2. I really loved the first game, so its 10 year anni game should be awesome.

Well, I'd love to enjoy the game, but the problem is I'm having real problems pulling off the DM's in Arcade Mode. Yeah yeah, I've got a normal PS2 pad, they're terrible, blah blah. But I ran through practice mode with my usual mains and I was pulling them off easily. In NeoGeo(Arcade) Mode and in its Practice Mode, I'm having alot of trouble. All the other commands work fine, though. It bugs me because in order to unlock the rest of the boss characters, you NEED to be able to use DMs, as getting to RotB Iori/Leano and Orochi/Goenitz requires you to beat every round with a DM or SDM.

Other than that, I'm enjoying the game. Post the usual tripe about how awesome King of Fighters is :P

Fan Creations / Gotham's Dump Thread
« on: February 27, 2009, 11:25:58 PM »
Nothing too special. Just some place to put things I do when I'm bored.

Only real contribution right now are Saikyo Style Sakura edits.

Sakura doing Dan's Danku Kyaku

Two variations of Dan's Gadouken which then goes to:

A double gadou.

None of these are transparencied because they're nothing permanent. All the sprites came from SFA2 on the SNES, though I really need to rip the arcade or PSX sprites because SF sprites seem god damn impossible to find.

Lastly:

Go Hibiki!
