« on: September 09, 2010, 08:16:05 AM »
New artwork and info for the Korean online game, Rockman Online, has surfaced. Showing off Duo (now confirmed to be a key character in the game) and a location called "Gaia", where most of the gameplay will occur. According to Korena site Jo!ns, "Gaia is a large military facility that houses various stages where many battles will unfold" and "contain stages set in a forest and a city monorail". Also, "Gaia will implement a differentiated play experience based on the player."

And now for the artwork;

News and Announcements / Mega Man Universe details from PAX
« on: September 05, 2010, 07:22:20 AM »
Subtle implication that there's more than one type of play style; trailers only showed the "tip of the iceberg."

Customization is a big part of the game. Capcom rep. strongly hinted at a stage editor of sorts.

Ryu, as well as the three Mega Man variants, are confirmed as playable characters. Hints of a large roster of playable characters.

Not only do the three Mega Men differ in appearance (Mega Man, Bad Box Art Mega Man and Rockman), they each have their own play styles and abilities. Bad Box Art Mega Man, for instance, can fire two shots at a time.

The "angry" Mega Man was designed by Masafumi Kimoto. Why is he so angry? That's just Kimoto's style, apparently.

Although the trailers made it seem like MMU is largely influenced by Mega Man 2, there's a "very good possibility" we'll be seeing content from other Mega Man games.

Mega Man Universe not making it to Wii has to do with the file size limitations of Nintendo's WiiWare service. Capcom noted they would like to be able to support a Wii version, but couldn't at this time.

Target release date of Spring 2011.

"Everything we've shown will make more sense" come Tokyo Game Show, according to the rep.

Gaming / Duke Nukem Forever (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
« on: September 03, 2010, 08:02:43 PM »
"2K Games has made it official. Duke Nukem Forever is alive and, well, in the hands of developer Gearbox Software, confirming our earlier reports that the Borderlands studio was helping to complete the game's absurdly long development cycle.

The publisher announced this morning in advance of PAX 2010 that Gearbox Software was on the job, picking up where developer 3D Realms left off. Gearbox plans to ship the game within the next year, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal—the WSJ says DNF is due "next year" and "currently expected to ship in 2010."

Given Duke Nukem Forever's epic development—it was first announced in 1997 as a sequel to Duke Nukem 3D—it might be wise to hedge on the later of those two release windows.

Gearbox and 2K will be showcasing the game to press and the public at this weekend's PAX convention. 2K Games is offering a publicly playable demo of Duke Nukem Forever at its booth.

After more than a decade in development, Duke Nukem Forever all but ended its production after the collapse of studio 3D Realms. Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford tells the WSJ that his studio picked up development in late 2009 and that the game is currently in the "polishing" stages."

Gaming / Classic Games for 3DS
« on: June 16, 2010, 06:21:48 AM »
As we all saw today, the unveiling of the slick, shiny, new sex machine, the Nintendo 3DS. A technical demo shown at E3 2010 of a game called "Classic Games" showing off 18 games from the NES and SNES area for the new handheld, one of those games, happened to be MegaMan 2.

Here, have a snippet from an IGN article;
Quote
"One of the more surprising of the tech demos was something called "Classic Games." In this interactive but nonplayable demo, you could cycle through 18 different pixel-perfect NES and Super NES games and see them reprocessed in 3D. Basically, all the sprites and backgrounds have been pulled forward or pushed backwards to provide the appropriate illusion of depth using the stereoscopic LCD of the system.

"The list of games in this collection included Mario Bros., Tennis, Super Mario Bros. The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Musasame, Punch-Out!!, Excitebike, NES Open Golf, Twin Bee, Super Mario World, Kirby's Adventure, Mega Man 2, Castlevania, Urban Champ, Kid Icarus, Yoshi's Island, and Smash Ping Pong."

Seriously. I want.

New Main Pokemon Game Announced
Next entry to follow Diamond & Pearl hits Japanese DS some time this year.

January 28, 2010 - HeartGold and SoulSilver are still the rage amongst Pokemon gamers, but Nintendo isn't letting Pikachu and crew rest. In Japan today, the company announced that a new main entry in the series is being developed for DS.

By "main entry," we mean a game in the line of titles that includes Red & Green, Gold & Silver, Ruby & Saphire, and Diamond & Pearl. The new game is set for Japanese release this year, meaning it will come four years after Diamond & Pearl's original release over there.

Nintendo did not share details on the game today, only hinting that it would have new Pokemon, take place in a new region, and feature new gameplay concepts.

But with the announcement out of the way, and with a 2010 Japanese release, expect to start hearing details shortly.

And then there's this;

Gaming / The Six-in-One Translator (DSiWare App)

While waiting in line to get our hands on Wii Sports Resort, a gentleman approached us, proposing a question that, when issued in the fine city of Los Angeles, would normally be cause for concern: "Wanna see something cool?" Our interest was piqued, and his Nintendo exhibitor badge assured us that we wouldn't be shivved, so we answered with an apprehensive "yes." The reward for our bravery was a quick look at the coolest app we've yet to see from the DSiWare service -- the Six-in-One Translator (tentatively titled, natch).

Translator is a neat little application. It's got a huge dictionary of words from six languages: English, Japanese, Spanish, French, Italian and German. You can enter in a word from one of those languages and find its definition in the other five -- but the impressive thing about it is the input method. Aside from the keyboard and handwriting methods you've seen before on Nintendo's handheld, you can use the DSi camera to take a picture of text you wish to translate, crop the image around the word using the stylus, then see it in five other languages.

In the brief demo we checked out, the user took a picture of a few characters in a Japanese menu. He highlighted the characters by dragging the stylus across them. The software quickly recognized the characters in a matter of moments, and provided their definition in the other five languages -- "consume," etc. If the full product works as well as the brief demo we saw, the Six-in-One Translator could end up being the software that justifies the very existence of the DSiWare platform.

Seriously, this interests me. I'm so glad I have a DSi now.

In the recent Volume 31 of the GT Newsletter, they had a Q&A with Star Force 3 series producer Takeshi Horinouchi. Now, I know what you're thinking; "It's Star Force. Why should we care?". Well, maybe this quote will get your attention:

WHAT GAMES ARE YOU PLAYING FOR FUN RIGHT NOW?
A remake of Megaman Battle Network which I've been working on.

There you have it. The new EXE game titled "Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star" is most likely a remake of the first EXE game "Battle Network Rockman EXE"
