Welcome, one and all, to the E3 2016 Thread!

No magical lyrics or whimsy this time, I'm afraid.

Let's all just sit back, chill, and enjoy the flurry of trailers, announcements, and gameplay videos that will be sure to come in this year's gaming event.

It is I, Phi, who will be your gracious host and friend with benefits for this occasion. Other users are free to host next year's event, preferably if they're cash money enough to handle the task.

Now, before we delve into the schedules and all the juicy little details, let's wet our appetite with some E3 trailers for these highly anticipated games.

Hnngh so excited for World of Final Fantasy. That better be PSTV compatible (I'd imagine it will be, most PS4/Vita cross-platform titles are).

Also that FF12TZA announcement is long overdue. And the Yooka-Laylee trailer is fantastic.

A lot of people bitched about it on release for being a mediocre game that doesn't do anything especially right, and the graphics downgrade from E3 as well as a crappy PC port, but it still sold well enough in a week to immediately justify a sequel those two years ago. It pretty much serves as a testament to how people's opinions about things on the net don't mean [parasitic bomb] to a general consumer market usually, especially with Ubisoft involved.

Also Mouse Trap in Fallout 4 and that Dishonored 2 replica mask looks sick.

Sounds like FROM's new games are

Quote
one of these titles is a dark fantasy action role-playing game similar to Dark Souls but from a "different angle".

Okay so, I think it's fair to assume this project will be their successor to dark souls with some sorta twist? Bloodborne 2 maybe? Either way anyone who thought FROM was going to completely abandon souls styled games was crazy-they make way to much money.

Quote
The second project is described as a sort of reboot, which is likely to be Armored Core. Miyazaki has expressed an interest in the mech series in the past, so it certainly makes sense.

Likely the case-not really interested in any of their mecha series unless they fix the god awfull controls of the previous Armored Core games.

Quote
Meanwhile, the third title that the team's got in production will be something "weird" and out of the organization's usual wheelhouse.

I am curious to see what they come up with.

I'll say this about the Sony conference. The CoD Infinite Warfare thing was the first Call of Duty that's ever remotely peaked my interest, but mainly due to the flying through space segments. HD Spider-Man looked fun, even though his costume looked weiiiird. Last Guardian looks amazing. Kojima showed up and I didn't get Zone of the Enders 3, so nothing new there. The PSVR thing being $400 is laughable.

GoW was the winner for me.

Even Kojima's ambiguous ass teaser got me really intrigued; it seems like something from Neon Genesis. What can I say, I like mindfuck.

Much to my dismay... the CoD space segment was pretty sweet. Other than that, the ground combat looked rather average.

Wasn't the Spider-Man costume supposed to resemble his Civil War appearance? I mean, his visors mechanically contracted just like in the movie.

I guess the HD version of ZoE will do for now. Though wasn't there some talk in the past about a 3DS game by them?

Anyway I agree the new Spider-Man suit is weird. I prefer the classic one... I know a Spider-Man like that will always have Costume Change so they better have it.

Wasn't planning on getting the CoD: Infinity Warfare game but that trailer made me what to get it now! D:

The VR feature look amazing as well and I did pre-order and fully paid off the PS VR so I look forward to trying out some of those VR titles. Definitely getting the Batman one.

I posted the big things above.

Also, Sony's VR device will be $400 and no demonstration of the Neo yet.

Intrigued by the fact that they're dialing back from all the batshit action movie stuff back into horror again, and I guess since it's a spooky house once more, it really is a "resident evil"   :D

good god they dragged on with pokemon. Like, no [parasitic bomb] you can customize your character? Why were you acting like it was so impressive?

Also what the hell is this? I was seriously expecting something more in line with last year or the year before where it was more like a Nintendo Direct instead it seems more like the streams they would do after the big main stream?

Cautious with zelda.

I like how you can now see at a glance how much your stats are increased/decreased by various moves and how, if you've encountered a Pokemon before, the game tells you what moves are super effective and which are not very effective. More accessibility is always nice.

In regards to Zelda, it looks AMAZING.

I mean that this is their main presentation, right? Last year this would've been one of the 2nd or 3rd presentations, and the first would've been like the Nintendo Directs. Like last year it was all pre-recorded and had Iwata and Co. as muppets and had multiple games that we hadn't known about yet, this year is just them talking on and on about two games that we already knew were coming and zero actual new announcements.

To be fair, they also announced those presentations a month ahead of time. No announcement this year because there wasn't one. So if you were expecting one despite them confirming there wasn't going to be one...

Anyways, I love how the new Zelda looks. Also you can use the Stalfos arms (though in the demo they're explicitly referred to as Bokoblin skeletons) as melee weapons lol

Yeah, degrading weapons is a bit of an interesting move, but judging by how many weapons they've found in the wild (and I'm sure more powerful weapons will be more resilient instead of breaking in 5 hits) I don't think it'll be much of an issue.

With how radically overhauled and redone everything is, it'd be hard to really list them all. But goddamn this looks good.
From the runes, which seem to be our main 'items' of the game, to shieldboarding at any time as you please, to cutting down trees and cooking anything for various recipes for varied mixes and effects, to tearing off a skeleton's arm and beating them to death with it..

It's like they looked at Monster Hunter, Skyrim and a little bit of Metal Gear Solid V, and Zelda'd the hell out of them all.

I can't help but be reminded of a Skyrim mod that causes the cold climate to affect your character's overall well-being, and it's neat that something like that is implemented into the survival aspects of Breath of the Wild. I might download one of the mods... once I actually finish installing other mods...

I love that there's VOICE ACTING now.

Even if Link will remain silent, it's nice that other characters will have voices now.

Also wonder where on the timeline this falls. Could be a long time after Four Swords Adventures on the Child timeline, or a long time after Zelda 2 on the Decline timeline (which seems more likely because, you know, Hyrule is in decline). I don't see it being on the Adult branch because of the presence of the Temple of Time right nearby where Link awakens, and if this is truly the new endpoint of one of the branches I'd think it would be on a branch that didn't have a whole new Hyrule lol

True. If that's the case it's interesting that the Temple of Time is there if this is indeed the New Hyrule of Spirit Tracks far in the future. The Temple of Time is a Old Hyrulean temple after all.

We'll have to see if this is a common theme of the map or if the demo was just in one spot where there happen to be ruins.

Also was that the bridge from TP in the trailer there? Reminded me of it.

I love that there's VOICE ACTING now.

Even if Link will remain silent, it's nice that other characters will have voices now.
Only seemingly Zelda and certain characters have full voice acting, because the old man and the sages in the Shrines don't.

Also, even if I can't figure out the timeline positioning, I do have a theory.
Something resembling Ganon and his dark energy is circling Hyrule Castle in the far off distance, as you can see from a split-second in the trailer. And Link starts the game off awakening in only his shorts in a resurrection chamber, as the area title handily calls it. I get the feeling that whether he kept his Triforce piece or not, Link was murdered by Ganon before the game begins (whether he was defending Zelda or killed by other circumstances) and now Link's reawakening with none of his gear and none of his memories beyond his natural heroic disposition. Also someone on Twitter posted that the old man you meet outside has facial and hair similarities to the King from Wind Waker, and he appears in.. unusual places like the top of a small mountain just to offer Link a shirt in the cold.
Title: Re: The Official E3 2016 Thread
It also seems like this Ganon is refered to as Calamity Ganon, and an It rather than he.....
I wonder what kinda outfits Link can wear? I like to have the Goron Tunic back again or something red in color for him to wear.

Make sure you get Twilight Princess HD and the Wolf Link Amiibo so you can have Wolf Link as a Hunting Dog! 8D
Question: I've only gotten the footnotes of today's E3, but it seems to me the ONLY piece of info that Breath of the Wild takes from your Wolf Link Amiibo is remaining hearts, right?  Like, which leg of the cave you're on, which Amiibos used to clear it, none of those are relevant?

In that case, any newcomers: Clear the Cave of Shadows BEFORE CLEARING THE PALACE OF TWILIGHT.  You can get 19 hearts on the two-leg Cave easily enough.  But the full Cave is an absolute [sonic slicer].

I have 12-ish hearts and no Zelda/Sheik Amiibo to fall back on (and on Hero Mode, no less), so I think I need to resume my game from my spare pre-Stallord save and just replay/recollect heart pieces to get the 19.  Even if I clear the full Cave as-is there is no way in hell I'm going to have much in the way of hearts to spare.

So I don't know if Nintendo talked about this yet at E3, but it is on their E3 website and they did sent out a PR email about it:  Another wave of "Super Mario" Amiibo.

Newbies are:
-HI, I'M DAISY AND HYPERSHELL IS TOTALLY BUYING ME ON DAY ONE.
-Waluigi
-Boo (glows in the dark)

The new wave will also include non-Smash versions of Wario (I'm amazed it took them this long, overalls and all), Rosalina, Donkey Kong, and Diddy Kong.  Release date for the whole bunch is November 8th.

Dragonball Xenoverse 2 got some new footage, game play looks way smoother and there are some new mechanics like some sort of quick dash to rapidly approach your opponent as well as being able to punish people who try to stay on the ground to avoid stuff like in the first game.

We also know that new hub world will be larger and allow flight inside it and not suffer from the draw distance/limited players like Toki Toki city. Also release date seems to be fall of this year rather than the predicted 2016 release.

I loved Xenoverse 1 despite the short commings so I'm looking forward to remaking DBZ Blue again : >

I mean it looks like almost everything I love about Dragon Quest 9 but with a huge graphical overhaul since it has the horse power of the 3DS.

Though I hope they made other improvements from the original 7 as well.

I already know they did. Hell, they shrunk the original introductory segment down from like 90 minutes to like 30, which is nice. And it got rebalanced and stuff too if I'm not mistaken.

Color Splash is following in Sticker Star's footprints. World map with individual areas, consumable attacks, no partners or leveling up...

However it does seem to improve on several points that Sticker Star fell flat on. Namely, more strategy in battles (you can use your cards plain but they'll be weaker than if you painted them) and resource management (you use paint to mess with the environment and to power up your attacks). You can get Enemy Cards from fallen foes that grant you temporary partners when used in battle (giving a reason to actually FIGHT battles). Also, we saw Morton, marking the first appearance of the Koopalings in the Paper Mario series, and he spoke. Which means we might have an actual vocal Bowser unlike in Sticker Star.

Things do return though, and they do make bosses really easy it seems (a fire extinguisher almost one-shot Morton's fire hammer and reduced him to very low health).

All in all it seems that Paper Mario has been gravitating away from RPGs for some time and is now more of an Adventure game (even Super Paper Mario was more of an adventure game than RPG), which I'm fine with.

Yeah I think I can give Color Splash a fair chance here since I like a lot of what I saw and I don't think I would fall asleep like I would with Sticker Star.

Nintendo's new announcements have convinced me to get a Switch down the line. New Yoshi in the vein of Woolly World, new Kirby, Metroid Prime 4. There's a new Pokemon RPG being made too, but that could mean something more like Colosseum. It can't be Stars now that we have Ultra Sun/Moon. Oh, and Mario Odyssey was always a must get. Dem hats.

And on 3DS there's an official Metroid 2 remake. I'm stoked.

Mainline Pokémon game means actual mainline game, not a side game like Colosseum (which wasn't GameFreak developed, it was Genius Sonority). Seeing as we won't see it for over a year, odds are it's gonna be Gen8.

Metroid: Samus Returns will be getting amiibo (http://www.metroid-database.com/news-post.php?id=1010)--one of Samus, one of a Metroid. All I can think going over the promo images is 'MIGHTY NEED'.

I'm very glad that Nintendo still wants to do stuff with this series in a non-spinoff capacity (and I hope everyone who feared they'd abandoned Metroid is too).

It fixes my main issues with the original Metroid 2, which are lack of a minimap and samey environments contributing to getting horribly lost. I mean yeah obviously the original lacked a minimap too but at least the environments differed lol.

Can I just say that as hard as I try to not get excited for 3DS games, and as much as it ticks me off to see 3DS games that don't even bother to include 3D (and really, if your game runs on the original, no excuse to not be 3D on the New), that Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions looks crazy fun.

*sighs*  Never did replace my New XL with the busted screen, though...  But holy crap, that Metroid 2 remake.  Zero Mission being my favorite GBA game of all time, I can't very well pass that up.  LOVE their version of the Varia Suit.

New Woolly-ish Yoshi, yay!

Xenoblade 2 looks freaking sweet but I keep expecting to see a redesign of Pyra, just 'cuz...well, Nintendo's not been doing so hot in the localization censorship department over the last few years.

Pokemon announcement felt like an apology for the Direct, given that they had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to show, not even a logo or an illustration.  I think Nintendo is in an odd spot with trying to support the 3DS, in that the mass market is still eating it up but their core fans are demanding more Switchery.  The lack of backwards compatibility is a sticker there since it means you have to lug around two handhelds, assuming you use the Switch for its Switchness that it was actually built for.

Prime 4 has a logo, which is more than Pokemon can say.

Fire Emblem Warriors, freaking sweet, day one, even if I am ticked that Ike isn't in it.  Tiki amiibo?  SOLD!

Mario + Rabbids, I was on board already, but liking what I see.  Never played X-Com, so this style is new to me.

Mario Odyssey trailer was epic, that was the greatest misdirection I've seen in a very very long time.

The only thing that bugs me is that outside of Rocket League, third parties (most especially Capcom) showed ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for the Switch.  Whatever happened to Octopath Traveler and Dragon Quest XI?  And on Capcom's end, wasn't that whole "we'll use our overpriced SF2 remake to gauge interest" thing supposed to be a mistranslation?  *sighs*  Oh well, more money for me to give to the indies, I suppose.  IntiCreates and Zoink thank you for your sloth.
