Title: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night - The New Igavania
Post by: ViperAcidZX on May 11, 2015, 11:04:39 PM
(http://i.imgur.com/fy9iNKS.jpg)

It's time to sit in our fancy thrones and smash glasses of blood wine as famed Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi unveils his new Kickstarter project, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, a successor the action-adventure Castlevania games (Aria of Sorrow, Symphony of the Night, Portrait of Ruin, et cetera). Igarashi has teamed up with Michiru Yamame to compose the music and Inti Creates in the game development department.

According to one of my twitter buddies, the project reached its main funding goal as little as two hours with 7,320+ backers (and counting), though I'm not too sure if that's entirely true or not. Nevertheless, the man behind some our favorite Metroidvania titles is gonna bring to some new-school into the old-school. Looking forward to play as the "new" Shanoa.

It was over 400k when I backed an hour or two ago, so it being funded already does not sound surprising at all.

When the Sword of Whip teaser went up I was like, "I can't pick between them! Can't I have both?" And thankfully it looks like you can use both.

And just now, we broke the $800k mark, so now we can enjoy getting slaughtered on Nightmare Mode. owob

Oh god I love that video and the What is a Backer line. XD

Anyway as you probably saw when you looked at the Youtube Partner Clan Names Proton Jon is supporting this game and he's doing it by LPing Aria of Sorrow.

► Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow Part 1 - In Support of #IGAvania (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOJLCMAgNik)

If the video doesn't show up because of that stupid update bug someone please fix it.

[spoiler]I seriously wonder how that Wesker Egg Armor is going to look like........[/spoiler]

You could probaly use the [url] tag with the video's title in the meantime like I did with the opening post. Anywho, Solid Snake is going to be in the game. 8D

Or you could do it this way without the title:

Code: [Select]

Might be a good idea to copy-paste "►" to indicate the link is a video link as Phi did when this happened to me.

Well the thing is about 100,000 away from a million so I say those goals are likely to be met.

I wonder what's Derek Alexander (the then-Happy Video Game Nerd) reaction to all this since he mentioned in his review of ► the Castlevania Game Boy games (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y65_Z291CY4&t=14m49s) that the franchise could use a spiritual successor (like Mighty No. 9 to Mega Man and Yooka-Laylee to Banjo-Kazooie), and now that's actually happening.

► Let's Play Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance - #IGAVANIA (https://youtube.com/watch?v=jtJlpvjDdvE)

We now have Josh Jepson playing this game blind since he never played the GBA games.  Though it looks like it'll be a one off unlike Proton Jon's.

They still have the retro level goal and they added a Classic Mode Goal when 2,500,000 is reached.

Post by: OBJECTION MAN on May 15, 2015, 11:37:30 PM
I'll be honest, I don't really care about those ones.

For one I think trying to stuff 2 games into one is going to back fire, and possibly bog down the main game's development.

As for the '8-bit' level? It's only going to be an Easter egg at most, since it'll be at odds with the rest of the game and it's aesthetics. I can take or leave it.

That said, I am VERY interested in this.....

I recommend a bunch.

Super Castlevania IV, Rondo of Blood, Symphony of the Night, Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin.

Those are also pretty much the only ones I have played.

I've always preferred the Classicvanias personally, but most of the Metroidvanias hold up (even Harmony, despite the terrible, terrible music).

I've been doing a quick run of SotN during my commute, actually. The game dropped me 2 Crissaegrim when I wasn't even trying to get one. It just wants me to cut through it like butter, it seems.

The music in Harmony is fine, its just Game Boy tier and not GBA tier. Nothing wrong with that.

It stands out as being odd when they had done it properly in Circle of the Moon, though.

It stands out as being odd when they had done it properly in Circle of the Moon, though.

They also had darker, smaller graphics in CotM.

So Harmony they made them bigger, and brighter because the last one was too dark (Remember, GBA had atrocious screen lighting issues before SP). Unfortunately they also used a cart size that was too small (64Mbit) so GBC music sounds.
Title: Re: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night - The New Igavania
Post by: Fxeni on May 24, 2015, 06:57:00 PM
If by screen lighting issues you mean having none at all until the SP, then yes, yes it did :P

Circle is fine with the SP or on the Wii U nowadays, though. I'm not sure Harmony will be as accepted, mostly due to the sound. Hence the reason I singled it out.

Not big into PC gaming, never invested in a proper graphics card so I don't count on being able to play any "current gen" PC titles.

Hypershell is the biggest fanboy for Nintendo that ever lived. He wouldn't be caught dead playing games on anything but.
...you know my username is from a Playstation game, right?

I just wait until non-Nintendo platforms are obsolete before I play them.  Tell me you're up for a round of Armored Core 4 Answer and I'll be there in a heartbeat.

This was the case for me when I got my Xbox 360. I held off on getting one to play Treasure's games because the old model was infamous for its high failure rate and needed an Ethernet cable plugged into your router go online. The newer S and Xboned-styled E models pretty much fixed that and can go online wirelessly. The same can be said for some of the games I play.

Plus from what I see of Bloodstained it could easily be played on any typical PC.  You don't need a gaming computer for a 2D platformer.
Title: Re: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night - The New Igavania
Post by: ViperAcidZX on May 30, 2015, 09:06:06 PM
Yeah but what we're seeing on Bloodstained are only mock-ups of the game and not an alpha or anything of that nature yet. We don't know if the game will be strictly hand-drawn 2D or go with the flashier 2.5D route with 2D sprites with 3D backgrounds (e.g. Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, DuckTales Remastered, A.R.E.S. Extinction Agenda/EX). Sure, there 2D games like Dust: An Elysian Tail that look like porn and doesn't require a high-end PC to play it, but sometimes there are games like Banzai Pecan where it's optimized like [parasitic bomb] and not run all that good despite meeting the minimum requirements while looking like a half-assed Newgrounds flash game (speaking from experience with my brother's old PC).

I know in theory there's no real reason a sidescroller should take much in the way of performance, but the fact that they made such a big deal about a WiiU version being more difficult than PS4/XB1, and "most beautiful game" was part of their justification, that leaves me wondering.

See? Hype is just proving my point for me.
I certainly am a Nintendo fanboy, but if I'm the biggest Nintendo fanboy you know, then you are browsing one hell of a sheltered internet, my friend.

Next Goal: Online multiplayer at $3M and Vita port at $3.5M.

Looking at the description though, it does not look online multiplayer. Just some secondary online [parasitic bomb] like OoE's item shop.

Worthless in my opinion.

He was reluctant to include himself in the game like this—even as an eldritch easter egg—but he relented when he saw fans talking about the possibility. Look, take my word for it: You've never been beaten into the ground and eviscerated by a nicer guy.

Whelp the Rouge Like dungeon mode has been achieved and a new Stretch Goal for Boss Revenge Mode has been added for $5,500,000.  It's so deep that it's located below an open trap door of the basement.

Also there's a Pure Miriam Costume if 60 achievement have been achieved and currently the backers have gotten 59.  It turns out Miriam was a blond before she got the Magi Crystal Curse.  Kind of weird since her hair was black before Gebel's hair turned white......

Shovel Knight will appear in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night! (http://www.siliconera.com/2015/06/12/shovel-knight-will-make-an-appearance-in-bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night/)

Though it's called "Shovel Armor" so it's more of a cameo appearance and you equip it to become Shovel Knight in the game.

And there's one more stretch goal (http://www.siliconera.com/2015/06/12/bloodstaineds-last-and-final-stretch-goal-is-a-mode-that-lets-you-play-as-bosses/) now at 5.5 million and we get to play as bosses in their own mode. I am so hyped! What about you guys?

Nah some of the later artwork made during the Kickstarter consistently  drew her with big melons.  It's just most of the official artwork does a bad job of emphasizing said melons, you can really see it in the one explaining the Magi Crystal Curse, Pure Miriam, the picture of the cast in the past, and the picture of Miriam holding a cake.

The central complaint right now isn't about any of its game mechanics or gameplay, amusingly, but the fact that the ship looks boring and more people complaining that it isn't the concept art like with Mighty No. 9.
[spoiler]Also goddammit Iga, couldn't resist water balloon sea kraken tits, could you?[/spoiler]

I gotta disagree with that. To me, the ship section looked pretty good with some nice details like the rain going on outside, the water flooding in the ship in the lower quarters, and seeing parts of the ship fall apart as you go through the area.

[spoiler]Those Sea Cups, though. :V[/spoiler]

Yeah, it looks well within the style and quality that the concept art represented.  Game lighting is clearly superior to concept art lighting, unlike Mighty.

I assume the lighting on the ship is the way it is because there's a port in the castle art stuff, so this is probably early game if not almost the beginning before we really get into the trippy and more accentuated lighting of the castle and such.

Also Iga is a bit up in the air over the Wii U port, since obviously nobody expects the system to still be relevant in 2018.
https://mynintendonews.com/2016/10/05/heres-whats-happening-with-the-wii-u-port-of-bloodstained/

I'm hoping for NX myself, doubly so if it turns out to not be backwards compatible.  I think that what Iga needs to do is poll the backers after NX details are finally announced (or if he can wait that long, a month or so after NX's console launch).
