Title: Allergies
Post by: Psycho Yuffie on November 17, 2009, 06:21:43 PM
In the last few years, I've been developing a lot of allergies. I didn't used to have any allergies, really. Now, I can barely take a step outside without going into a fit of sneezes. I'm even getting food allergies I've never had before. I can't begin to know why this is happening...

Just last night, I broke into hives. Why? I think it's because I started substituting milk with lactose-free milk--due to my lactose intolerance. I started using it in cereal a few months ago and I didn't have any problems. About two weeks ago, I started drinking it during meals occasionally. A week ago, I started drinking it regularly. I noticed some itchy bumps appearing, but I thought they were just bug bites. A week passed and these few itchy bumps had multiplied. Finally, last night, there was a massive break-out of these bumps and they became about 100 times more itchy than they ever had been before. These weren't bug bites, they were hives. I'm taking a break from the lactose-free milk for a few days to see if the hives go away. If they do, I think I have my culprit. I might be fine having it in my cereal, but no more than that. Could my lactose intolerance have transformed into a milk allergy? Not sure.

One of my friends doesn't, either. Dust tends to burn off his skin.

Well, in my case, it's the opposite.

I used to have allergies in my childhood (dust, seafood), but now I can eat seafood no problem and dust doesn't really make me sneeze anymore.

I have the classic dust allergy that everyone here seems to have. And recently, I've developed allergies to walnuts and sunflower seeds, which sucks because I like eating both of those, especially in cookies.

Let's see... I'm allergic to tree pollen... and (maybe) watermelon... that's all I can think of. Tree pollen allergies are a goddamn NUISANCE.  O:<

Milk, of any sort. Even dairy-free milk. I feel violently ill if I so much as sniff the stuff.

Yoghurt, cheese, ice-cream and other dairy derivatives, though, I love.

it just means I can't wear jewelery, need to leave the room when someone uses air freshener, and I can't take penicillin.  Oh, and I drink Lactaid and avoid eating eggs.  That's it.

because most of us are jerks
That's an unnecessary generalistation of the male population. There are jerks, but there are also very nice men.

I sincerely hope that was a joke.

Sorry, but I get annoyed when people generalise or stereotype other people. But this isn't the thread for that.

It was a joke, settle down. After all, Ari is nice and he is male. So is PB. This is RPM, you should know not to take things that seriously--especially when I say it.

I'm allergic to Nair. XD

I'm also allergic to strong perfume, either sprayed everywhere or clinging like the plague to a person who bathed in it. I can't breathe and it almost feels like my lungs are caving in. >.< And the customers feel indignant when I have to stand as far back away as I could so I could somewhat breathe.

Heheh, I know, but I still consider myself one of the sole remaining moral bastions in a cynical world. Sometimes I get a tad...zealous about stuff like this. I don't mean it personally or anything. =P

I once had strep throat, and had to take some amoxicillin for it, only to break out in hives a few days later. As far as I can tell, it's the only allergy I have.

"Sarcastic" is merely a mild form of "jerk."

Anywho...  I'm also allergic to crustaceans.  Mind you, I can eat crustaceans without a problem, but the juices irritate my skin.  Might be what they were cooked in, I'm not sure.  I have the reaction when I peel and eat shrimp, king crab, crayfish, and lobster.  The skin on my hands will turn red, itch, and get puffy.  I dunno if it happens when I eat clams, mussels, or oysters, as I haven't had those in so long and the last time I ate oysters and clams, I got pretty sick to my stomach.  So, I dunno.

I also get a skin reaction from the adhesive from bandage tape.  Only a certain kind, though, the plastic kind.  I get what looks like a bright red bruise where the adhesive was in contact with my skin.

A somewhat embarrassing allergy that has gotten me in trouble during PE on several occasions: sweat. I'm serious, whenever I get a little sweaty, I itch like crazy. It sucks.

I can somewhat understand that. I don't itch when I sweat but if I'm sweating and I'm sitting on the grass then I get that itchy/ burning sensation going. Made Field Day a relatively horrible experience because I normally forget to bring a towel or blanket to sit down on.

I mostly, and by that I mean only (for now), have nasal allergies.

Most common being dust, I'm also get an alergic reaction when the seasons change. I also have seem to get an alergic reaction to milk, but like my other allergies I only react by sneezing a lot. Course the only time I actually sneezed by the cause of milk was when they were testing what I am mostly allergic to, which was when they injected me...with milk.

I'm also allergic to most perfumes, pollen, the morning appearently, but no animals though.
I think that's about it for now.

Tree pollen, and it's pretty nasty.

I also have a mild reaction to seedless watermelons and some nectarines.

The holiday season has reminded me of my pine tree allergy, so no real Christmas tree for me.  Pity, as I like the smell.
