Preordered Tri. But Euroland has to wait till the 23rd.

And we can't play with Americans from what I heard.

Definintely gonna try this game at the very least. Online monster battling with some of the zany personalities of RPM just sounds like too much fun. With online being free on top of everything, I'd be nuts not to give it a spin.

I'm gonna be doing tons of multiplayer. Solo MH is kind of boring sometimes.

You know I never understood the why Monster Hunter is so damn popular around the world... until I got Monster Hunter Freedom United for the PSP and I preorder Monster Hunter Tri for the Wii (gonna miss those Dual-Wield swords O^O)

I have to say it's very fun and trying to take down the monster in the time limit with only a few items makes it very challenging. Though it's sad to play alone...

Question I can use my PSP to link up with the PS3 to go online and team up with other people playing MHFU too, right?
Title: Re: Monster Hunter General Thread

You need adhoc party, but yes you can do that.

Gonna main Switch Axes.

Long Swords will be secondary weapon.

Then S&S and DS.

Okay, I should get this game then it looks like.  Well, it'll give me an excuse to get the Classic Controller Pro too.

You definitely should.  I'll be playing it online a lot more than I did with Brawl, which was hardly at all.

So, what can I expect with this game?  How does it ummmmm...how does it work?

You're a hunter. There are monsters. You hunt them with BIG. WEAPONS.

Then you use their remains to make new weapons and armor to hunt even bigger monsters.

Look at the Youtube videos I posted.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter General Thread
Post by: Sub Tank on April 10, 2010, 11:46:09 PM
So, what can I expect with this game?  How does it ummmmm...how does it work?

It's sort of like Devil May Cry, but in slow motion.  And you can't jump.  Very hard game, but it's a lot easier with a group.

Basically, you have a selection of infinitely repeatable quests that take you to various map areas populated by monsters specific to the mission.  Typically it's a boss monster followed by annoying little things that only get in the way.  You only have to kill the boss monster to end the mission.  Completing quests awards you with gold and materials that can be used to upgrade your gear, so there's a bit of grinding involved.  You'll also unlock more quests with harder monsters as you progress.

There are a bunch of weapons you can choose from, but you can only bring one with you at a time, so you're stuck with whatever you pick.  Each weapon path has specific move set which you have to learn, so you'll probably end up with a "main" weapon.  Some monsters are easier to kill with certain weapon types, so you might want to play around with more than just one.

Combat basically involves attacking and rolling.  All attacks have what I guess would be considered "cooldown" periods where you're kind of stuck between animations.  Rolling is important here because it allows you to move away before you regain full control of your character.  Your weapon speed never changes, so you have to get awesome at all this timing stuff.  There's also some other strategy elements regarding what items to take with you.

Thanks you two.  Yeah, I think I will definitely pick this up!  I might even go to the event at Ninty World.

Yeah thats the one thing I didn't like about the one I played, you jus feel really giant, clunky and slow.  I usually like to play as faster characters >w<
Title: Re: Monster Hunter General Thread

Well you DO move like a rock when you wear a mountain of armor and carry a giant slab of bones and iron.

I'm trying to figure out if/when I choose to pick this up.

Demo's alright, but it's already clear to me that this ain't a game for solo play.  I've failed the 1-star mission in most of my playthroughs.  Only two I've beaten it with were light and medium bowguns.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter General Thread
Post by: Acid on April 11, 2010, 12:41:42 AM
I'm playing solo on my PSP. Solo play is very possible. But the learning curve is steep as hell.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter General Thread
Post by: Sub Tank on April 11, 2010, 12:52:14 AM
In Freedom Unite, the multiplayer missions are separate from the normal missions.  The monsters in those have something like double HP and attack power.  Still possible to solo, but you have to be crazy good.

Hmm...

I think i'll pick up the demo (if canadian gamestops/ebs have it), though the idea of hunting down big dinosaurs w/ RPMers is UBER tempting.  And I never have played dedicated myself to an online multiplayer game before.

although, is the Pro Classic Controller a must for this game?
Title: Re: Monster Hunter General Thread

although, is the Pro Classic Controller a must for this game?

I do believe so.

I also have no idea what communication is like in this game, but a lot of people are getting those Wii Speak things.

Unfortunately, Wii Speak looks like it's just a giant microphone that sits on your TV, picking up all the room noise, as well as your monster hunter sound effects.  Has anyone ever used this thing before?

Well I picked this game up today.  I haven't played it yet, and I'm not sure if I'll get to play it till Thurs or Fri night, but I've gotta say, I really really love the feel of the Classic Controller Pro right now.

As fun as the chara creator is... it is also pointless since later on your hunter will be covered by a hundred thousand layers of massive armor. Usually.

But of course... that won't stop me (or anyone) from using it.

Title: Re: Monster Hunter General Thread
Post by: Acid on April 23, 2010, 01:56:19 AM
Oh yeah... one thing:

I wanna main switch axes, as early as possible. So at first I'll gather materials, then I'll need someone to get online to make one. This method is faster than completing the necessary urgent quest.

After that I'll try to get a decent armor set and THEN I'm gonna play online. I hope that's OK.

So... for now I will merely need someone who wants to help me get my axe.

Finally obtain the Long Sword and took on my first quest on the Lagiacrus. Very fun fight, why haven't I been introduced before? ^_^

Goddamn, this game is hard. I'm trying my best to deck out my character but you have to put a lot of work into it. And I'm stuck on a one star mission where you have to collect monster guts but the [tornado fang]ing Lagiacrus tries chases you around and murders you in three hits. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE.  O:<

/noob
Title: Re: Monster Hunter General Thread

Just run away from him. It's not that hard. Usually you can collect 10 guts before he pops up.

You need to kill the.. uh... the ones near Lagiacrus, and check them, if I remember correctly.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter General Thread
Post by: Sub Tank on May 04, 2010, 08:31:54 AM
You can kill any of those Loch Ness monsters for the guts.  If Lagiacrus pops up, just rush to the opposite underwater area.  He'll probably just roar and charge at you, so as long as you don't stand directly in front of his face, you should be able to slip around him.

So what's the deal? Should I buy this game?

Aight, check this [parasitic bomb] out... yo.

You get either a great sword, lance, sword and shield, hammer or a bowgun.

You then hunt some monsters who are total pussies, you got this Jap ship captain who talks like a [Top Spin], and the generic village people.

Then later, you hunt awesome monsters, upgrade your weapons, and armor, and go through fantastic areas with pretty great graphics.

You can also get a switch axe, which is hella tight, and even later, a long sword, which I have no idea what it's like, but I can assume it's badass as [tornado fang].

And so on and so forth, with more awesome monsters, more awesome weapons and armor, etc etc.

What's the deal? The deal is, you get all this, and more, for a price of only $60 or less! (I think.)

I beat (and captured) Rathian, Gigginox and (urgent quest) Lagiacrus now.

Rathian wasn't so hard, but she sure took some time to beat.
Gigginox was where the things heated up. Hitting the tummy helped a lot. ^^;
I had 12 minutes left against Lagiacrus, but I took care of Lagi in the final area with lots of dodging. ;3

My defense got up to 90+ now, while still keeping similar outfit as before. x3

Correction on the game my brother has Sub, it's MH Freedom, not Freedom Unite.

Anyhow, playing bit by bit of the single player.  I like what i'm playing and definitely can see how it can be VERY charming and fun w/ more than one person.

Not at HR2 just yet but I beated the Velocidrome at my first try.  It was slightly hard, but MAN IT FELT GOOD killing that alpha male~.  That alone I REALLY liked.

oh and that Wyvern Egg quest was damn scary...I shat my pants seeing the Rathalos arrive on me as I carried the egg, till a Velociprey jumped on me (in the same area), leading me to drop the Egg.

Me:....[tornado fang].

Seeing the Rathalos sleep and carrying the egg while said Rathalos sleeping also shat my pants.

Obviously.  It's okay in the long run though.  The skill level you bring to the team can easily be replaced by some random net monkey on X-Box Live.  I mean, Joshmack & I are trying to replace you with SexyWil, which pretty much says it all right there.

I'm sure this will be the case with the Hunting of Monsters as well, as demonstrated by your poor, poor use of the Flash Bomb yesterday before we left.  I just shake my head in amazement.

Hey, I just said you sucked.  I never said you weren't useful.  Every hero needs a Decoy the Pig Hostage, and until SexyWil gets an X-Box, clearly your it.  We all have our roles to play in life.  You just need to accept yours, which you obviously will when the game officially comes out.  Hopefully by then, SexyWil will have an X-Box so at least you can look somewhat more respectable out there.  Somewhat...

I plan to kill him in his sleep. I need him close to do that.

Pffft.  Some Ninja you are.  You've had ample opportunity to do that on multiple trips, and yet you fail.  You don't deserve to eat at that Ninja restaurant next year.

See this is why I room with you, cause I'm not worried about anything you might do given that small, simple, aging brain of yours as obviously you forgot the fact that it can be used as a credit card.  A REAL Ninja would be able to forge my signature, but clearly I don't have ANYTHING to worry about when it comes to your Ninja skills.  It's like Superman worrying about Aquaman with a bomb strapped to his chest.

Here's some new armor that's exclusive to MH3P (PSP).

I was reading how this town will have a total Japanese feel to it. The only thing is now that I have been using a 2nd analog stick I don't want to go back to the PSP and its one analog. I wish there was a way fully customize the buttons. I would have L and R rotate the camera. I would use the left and right on the D pad to move my menu items and press down on the D pad to use one. That way I can assign the R1 button to the Square button.

Yeah totally. I recently tried to play MHF2 again... it's frickin' hard to get back into it. All because of the buttons.

well [tornado fang] this game.

i've gotten to the five star quests, have full Barroth armor and an assault axe+, and just defeated Lagia. and now they want me to capture one? i thought to myself, "Oh, that won't be too hard." but NO. [tornado fang]ing CAPCOM DECIDES THAT THIS CAPTURE IS GONNA TAKE PLACE IN MY LEAST FAVORITE MAP, FLOODED [chameleon sting]ing FOREST, AND THEY DECIDE TO TAKE MY CHA-CHA AWAY.

so now i'm going to be hunting online.

Title: Monster Hunter Nikki: Poka Poku Airu Mura
Post by: Nicole Claris on August 26, 2010, 09:31:20 PM
So Ares was looking at the newest PSP games this morning and he came across this one.

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7jBvNTIfEc[/youtube]

And I do want! I have played Ares' Monster Hunter Freedom Unite for a while and while I enjoyed it for what it was, the lack of story and repetitive gameplay kinda annoyed me. (Go kill Tigrex! Now go kill him 5 MORE times!  :V ) So a cute spinoff game seems right up my alley!

I am curious if anyone knows anything about the play style? Someone compared it to Patapon in the comments, but the gameplay looks like it should be more akin to Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon/Rune Factory? I can only assume but there seems to be farming, fishing, and fighting.  >0< If it is like Patapon with the rhythm game kill me now.  :'(

Also if anyone knows when/if it will be in English?

Before Posting Edit: I found some about it on the wiki.  >0<
http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/MH_Diary:_Poka_Poka_Felyne_Village (http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/MH_Diary:_Poka_Poka_Felyne_Village)

Quote
The gameplay during a Quest is similar to Patapon, although it does not use rhythmic-based button inputs. The Felyne party is not controlled directly. Instead they are given three types of commands via the SQUARE, TRIANGLE, or CIRCLE buttons. The "Forward Arrow" will command them to move forward. The "Stay Arrow" will cause them to either burrow or stay put. And a third specialized command; for example "Rest", "Attack", "Bomb", "Flute", etc can be chosen. Based on the commands you choose, various events will occur. Choosing the right commands will progress the party to the end of the quest.
So it is kinda Pikmin-esque?

Still nothing to show if it is coming out here. Once again I am reminded how much I wish I lived in Japan and knew Japanese.  O^O That bundle pack is adorable!

Monster Hunter Topic? How wonderful... I think I wasted a good 350 hours in Freedom Unite so far...

I played the crap out of the demo already. All the improvements from Tri are nice to see and the Dual Swords are delicious... I can't wait for December 1st for when the full thing comes out.

One of the latest updates for Portable 3rd involved what exactly the onsen will be used for. You'll be able to fill your stamina there, order drinks (which I assume are for the felyne skills), and bathe with your felynes.

Well, if you're able to, use RemoteJoyLite and play with a gamepad.
It takes some fiddling around with if you have a 64 bit OS but otherwise it's a very nice alternative to actually holding the PSP. You can just sit there with it plugged in and play the game using your computer screen and controller.

Of course, but you can't just hook the PSP up to a wireless connection and start playing. Adhoc party for the PS3 or XLink Kai will probably be the easiest things to use to get around the lack of built-in online play.

From what I've heard, both of those always have monhun players from around the world online.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter General Thread

Hm I think I remember mentioning XLink Kai in the past. >U<

For those who can actually find them in (well-hidden) stores, the XLink Kai adapters that you connect to the USB-port should work for anyone who wants to play PSP games online. (http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/) Yes, including the games that only use Ad Hoc. This also works for Gamecube and PS2 as well. There are Mac drivers to install too. ^^

Oh wait, Amazon has it. (http://www.amazon.com/PLANEX-Wireless-Mini-Adapter-GW-US54Mini2W/dp/B000KN8QMQ/) Someone should help me get one too >U<

Females usually have better armor, but in the case of Tri I think alot of the male armor looked better.

Save imports have been confirmed. You (probably) won't get your character from Unite into the game, but Play Time, Quests completed, and felyne armor will be unlocked along with a couple of other small things.

Well, in that case you could look around on the Monster Hunter Wiki and see what armor sets on which gender look the best, then pick your character's gender from that.
Nargacuga is here, so we'll have the <i>awesome</i> female Narga set to go with it, but the male Rathalos armor is pretty cool as well...

I'll probably just end up re-creating my female hunter from MHFU.

Looks awesome! I'm so glad I got into the Monster Hunter series! I'm buying this day one when it comes out to the US!
Did they mention a US release date yet?

So what Weapon Style are you guys going to use? I've been particularly fond of them Dual Swords, but I also like the Long Sword as well (especially Katana-looking ones).

By the way, how do you go online with the PSP using the PS3's Ad Hoc Mode? I don't know what to do, I downloaded it but I'm a little lost. Like to go online with MHFU just once.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter General Thread
Post by: Fariator on November 27, 2010, 12:01:38 PM
When I started playing MHFU, I got interested into long swords and occassionally I use heavy bowguns (mostly against Plesioth and Kirin). I also prefer to use Dual Swords against Rajang.

After I bought MHTri, I mostly used long swords and switch axes at first, but then at the higher levels I finally taught myself how to use lances properly. This carried over to MHFU aswell, and so I'm using both lances and gunlances too.

I don't like hammers (I prefer hunting horns over hammers) all that much, but I did use them in MHTri during arena quests.

By the looks of things, I'm either going to be a lance/gunlance or long sword user in MHP3rd. Just hope I get myself a PS3 before then so I can hop on and play online.

I'll probably continue to use Great Swords, Hammers, and Lances evenly. I really loved using the Gunlance in Unite, so if they've improved in P3rd as an offensive version of the lance I'll convert to those with lances as a backup weapon of sorts.

I'll still use everything else when need be depending on my friend focuses on.

I still wish the PSP had a second analog stick. I just can't get used to the claw.
Oh well, at least I'll be able to play it on a TV screen.

Hey Vixy, you don't have a PS3 right? You could hook your PSP up and see if Europe can play with America.

I've got about 70 hours so far. I've finished all offline quests except for the final you get by finishing everything. [spoiler]Deviljho, Nargacuga and Tigrex in the arena.[/spoiler]

I've had no problem with any of the quests so far. Perhaps Unite spoiled me with it's horrid difficulty, but now... This quest man... I can't live against this thing! I get OHKO'd three times within the first ten minutes!

I bought Tri as a Christmas present to myself.  It's my first experience with the series, and I'm loving it so far.  Going with plain ol' swords, since I appreciate the mobility.  And nailed my first Great Jaggi online today.

Got Wi-Fi and Wii Speak, if anyone's interested in hooking up with my noobish self.  Character name is Bowen.

I'm generally an axe man, but currently I'm having fun with longswords. They're physically weaker than axes but the Spirit Slash is really overpowered. It's a very nice weapon, might get used to it.
(Still won't drop axes)

And my goal for 3P will be a High Jinouga armor. That thing looks pretty badass.

I'm starting to go back to Monster Hunter Tri after many months due to schoolwork and other video games I wish to complete.

First off I'm looking for some better armor than my Rathian Armor+ Set and I planning on adding the Handiwork, Evade, and Earplug skills on a better armor set unless you guys have something far more better for skills for a Longsword user like myself... (How I miss Dual Swords...)

Care to give me some suggestions or advice? Some of the people over at GameFAQs can be a bunch of jerks sometimes... :|

Monster Hunter Tri-G interview (http://www.1up.com/news/capcom-developers-talk-monster-hunter) and some scans. (http://www.gamekyo.com/newsen43022_monster-hunter-tri-3g-premiers-scans.html)

Quote
- 3DS exclusive Enhanced Port of Tri for Wii

- Due out before the end of the year in Japan, 3G will be fully playable at the Tokyo Game Show in a couple weeks

- "the new portside area we've made for the game was created with an eye for 3D visuals -- giving it more depth, placing objects on top of each other, and other concepts to make the 3D more prevalent."

- "The bottom screen will have a panel with assorted useful functions for hunting; you'll be able to tap on things to use it"

- There is also, of course, the slide-pad attachment, which Tsujimoto called a "secret weapon" crafted so players could play 3G with the same control feel as the original Tri.

- As for weapons; "There will be 12 types," Fujioka said, "filling out the set of genres we've introduced up to this point. All of the weapons will be operable in the underwater areas, too.

- 3G's marquee monster is Blakydios, a Brute Wyvern-type -- member of the ponderous land-dragon race that first made its debut in Tri.

:\ Am I the only one who played Tri with the remote/nunchuck and liked it?  I'm just wondering how freakish it is that I don't consider the Classic Controller Pro to be the be-all-end-all of a game like Monster Hunter.

Posted on: September 07, 2011, 10:10:27 PM
Japanese website is up! (http://www.capcom.co.jp/monsterhunter/3G/monster01.html)

-Artwork of Rathian, Rathalos, and two new monsters.  One is apparently the punching goo-spewing Brute Wyvern previously mentioned.  The other is a new member of the Rath- family, capable of both flying and swimming.
-There's a new kid from Cha-Cha's tribe, "Kayanba", who wears a blue mask.  You can bring both of them along at the same time.
-4-player local multiplayer.  Haven't seen any mention of online (yet).
-A new port/town "Tangier".  Moga Village is mentioned, but not Loc Lac.
-Touch screen is said to be customizable.  The example shown includes 4 panels: a map (obviously), a second D-Pad, your items, and a "lock-on" switch that lets you set the camera to automatically follow a monster.
-Hardware screens as of yet do not feature the second circle pad expansion.
-"New" weapons include the return of Bows and Dual Swords.  There's a few screens of them being used underwater.

Title: Re: Monster Hunter General Thread
Post by: Phi on September 09, 2011, 03:25:07 AM
Gah, a "lock-on" switch? That would make fighting and tracking down a monster much less challenging.
Title: Re: Monster Hunter General Thread
Post by: Hypershell on September 09, 2011, 03:34:44 AM
Well, if that isn't finding the cloud in the silver lining.

"Switch" as in you can turn it off, Arche.  Besides, generally if a monster blindsides you, it feels more cheap than it does challenging.  The only monster who hides is Gobul, and he kinda sucks at it. 8D

Honestly, if I was worried about any addition making the game less challenging, it'd be Kayanba.  The more brainless CPU targets a monster has to chase, the more free hits you get.  But then, you always had the option of leaving Cha Cha behind, and I expect the same is true of the new guy.

I applaud Capcom for getting Monster Hunter to the west again.  May not be what I REALLY want from them, but hey, it's a step in the right direction.

Ordinarily the "rebuy the game for a slightly enhanced version" thing only works for me with Pokemon.  But Tri WAS pretty darn awesome, so we'll see?  Gotta find out more details on this one.

I would guess that "Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate" for the 3DS is the localized Tri G (seeings how the WiiU one is "Tri G HD Ver." in Japan).

I guess I kinda expect the WiiU to be "the" version since online is a much bigger deal outside of Japan.  I am curious about the 3DS connectivity features, though.  I mean, can StreetPass exchange WiiU connection info to meet later online?  Can your own WiiU and 3DS versions connect for multiplayer with you and a guest locally?  Would such a 3DS linkup allow two players to a console while online?
