I prefer X, since I feel more of a connection to his character. Except in X7, but that was just Capcom trying to cram what X said at the end of Zero 1 all into one game. Y'know, the whole "I got tired of fighting" shpiel.
Zero is just... I dunno. As good as he is, something about him just doesn't cut it.

Yeah I still am because Axl is awesome, what Capcom did to him sucked, I mean if Model A is Axl (which I think he is but some people don't for some reason and such) they really messed him up Axl is supposed to be the most reckless roid around like Fefnir but what do we get a whinny coward. And plus this line from Command Mission "Zero you mean THE Zero." dude he already met Zero that is the most stupid line I've ever seen.

Yeah in Command Mission he can transform into bosses instead of just Mecaniloids his size or smaller (I've heard some places it was his size or bigger I'm not sure but I'll say smaller since he couldn't transform into bosses before).

I can't stress enough how much I love this drawing...
Oh, and X. Zero is written better, IMO, but that's because the writers don't really do all that much with X. With proper writing, I think you can do more with X's character than Zero's.

Yes X can be a better charater with proper writing, again X is only less popular than Zero because of how Capcom made him. I mean X7 would have been way better if X wasn't such a emo wussy coward, if Axl and all the other characters had better voice acting, and develop more on Axl's story and character, not to mention way better game play.

For me X is a little too weak mentally. After so many years, and so many fights, he's still "please don't be a meanie, I don't want to hurt you". He should know already that nobody on his way really cares about his peaceful solutions. Considering his unlimited potential he should be a high general or something.

Depends on the game. Usually X because getting the parts for armors is cool, but if it works like X5/6 and you don't get it then and there, I lean more towards Zeros fighting and agility.

In the X series, I've always been a "fanboy" of Zero. I find his moves more unique and stylish. And like Saber said, badass. I don't have a problem with X, but I always thought that Zero was a more interesting character. :P

From X4 and up ZERO pretty much Kira'd everything and became the main character. All the actual story elements were all about him. X was just the "title character". Like Dante in DMC4.
hell, X was a pencil pusher in X7 and had to be unlocked.

Zero was more ferocious in the X series too. He had different moves in every game and even gave us new Z-saber combo from X6-X8. Whereas X....XD He couldnt learn to shoot in any other direction, unless it was a default homing (X7), without the help of special weapons. -applaudes Bass-

They're both rather stereotypical...
Probably it has a lot to do with associating the games with the character.
Still, scenes like

Z: ...I will do as you ask.
and of course his dying words, are probably big influencers.

I was referring more to gameplay. Zero got the same damn saber EX Skills for three games in a row (and sans ice-element buster, all EX Skills had obviously peaked by Z3).

I prefer Zero's personality in ZERO, that's my reason. Also, who needs flashy upgrades when you can slice and dice with Zero's saber already? I never bothered with Zero's upgrades in both series.

I like X just SLIGHTLY more cause I love his voice actor in japan, and his depiction in Command Mission and X Hunters was not bad either. Zero gets props too.... every Mega needs his Proto 8)

I prefer X. He's the perfect protector for the planet and his character combines justice, compassion, and inspiring leadership. He also has limitless potential and generally ends up being totally overpowered, which is awesome.

Ahh tough question indeed. I cannot decide between my favorite Rockman characters.
X - He is a quick and powerful badass with caring human emotions, a strong sense of justice, and, as Mr. Acrosurge stated, inspiring leadership (the proof is in how he created Neo Arcadia for both humans and reploids (until Copy X took over and screwed it up)). He always worried for others and that, in turn, is the secret to his power. The 'X' in his name represents infinite power and infinite possibilities. He can obtain weapons from irregulars and strong powers in the armors from capsules (that and he's the first RM character I've ever played with so yeah).
Zero - Dude the guy is just awesome. He wields a freaking sword! He sacrifices himself for his friends and no matter how many times he's "died" he always comes back stronger than before! He is calm, collected, and always follows orders (pure loyalty man :3). Instead of getting weapons from irregulars he learns their battle techniques. Also he is basically the first maverick; no matter what's in his past he never lets it get to him, in fact he destroyed Omega (original Zero body with maximized powers) proving that he is the one and only Zero (that can kick your ass with or without his awesome power).
Maybe one more than the other at times but I can never choose between those two. -^^-"

By all technicalities, X is the true Megaman/Rockman character here, and I feel that this is correct. IMO, sure there can be sabers, but if you ever remove the shooting, then it's not a MM/RM game. :P

Axl is a fusion of Zero and X. he has a ranged shooting weapon, but it is handheld. he has a round head, but with two pronged things. he has hair. he can air dash, and hover. he can copy boss weapons almost identical to X's, plus he has a chest crystal.

Oh, did they ever... Seriously, for that level of whininess, there damn well should have been an X/Alia makeout scene, because nothing else could possibly make him worth listening to.
I place the blame for that one on the script, not the VA. I don't think anyone could make "Stop it!" work as a battle cry.

Hmm... I dunno. That's a tough choice. I would say X because of his unlimited potential... but Zero has been shown to have that as well. I would say Zero because of his awesome & stylish weaponry (Z-Buster FTW!)... but X has that in spades. Not to mention that they were BOTH created by the two men who started the mess in the previous series, and as a writer, that kind of twist gives me a big literary stiffy. Hmm...
I'm at a draw. I'll go with Rockman ZX. >U<

It used to be Zero when I thought he was Protoman in the future. I was like WHOA.
When I found out he wasn't I felt betrayed. I took up a new idol.
