Title: Rockman Betas, Trials, Promos and scrapped projects. The more rare, the better.
Post by: VixyNyan on March 25, 2009, 11:40:24 PM
I didn't know where to put this...

Battle & Fighters demo lets you fight against 2 bosses before the Game Over shows up. You can only select the first scenarios on both games, while the others are gray and locked out. The release date shows up after playing.

Some other games we could talk about would be:

* Rockman DASH promo discs (Rockman NEO (1 (http://www.rockmanpm.com/i/rockmancollection/dashbeta-rpm.png)) (2 (http://www.rockmanpm.com/i/rockmancollection/rockneo-rpm.png)) and Rockman DASH 2 episode 1 (http://www.legends-station.com/?page=mml2/development))
* Rockman 7 Sample (http://www.themechanicalmaniacs.com/articles/mmcmysteries.php) (Click MegaMan 7)
* Rockman 8 Beta (with the old Frost Man stage music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wAmsZfQOg8#t=2m56s))
* Rockman X1 Beta (http://themechanicalmaniacs.com/images/mmmysteries/MMXmys-scrn1.gif)
* Mega Man X7 E3 Special Edition (X playable on Intro Stage)
* Rockman Scramble Battle? (lol)
* Mega Man Mania? (eh, why not)
* Rockman EXE Transmission Beta, with the different camera view in boss fights.
* Rockman EXE 5 DS Twin Leaders Prototype (with lots of 3D elements, like characters and maps)
* Mega Man 4 Beta (EGM Magazine) (http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/4732/mm4egmbeta.jpg)
* Rockman World 1 Proto (http://www.disgruntleddesigner.com/chrisc/RMProto/)

And more things like that. Just fill up the list. ^^

(http://www.rockmanpm.com/i/dash/rockmandash2/episode1/game1b.png) (http://www.rockmanpm.com/i/dash/rockmandash2/episode1/game2b.png) (http://www.rockmanpm.com/i/dash/rockmandash2/episode1/game3b.png) (http://www.rockmanpm.com/i/dash/rockmandash2/episode1/game4b.png)

Lets talk about them all.

If it helps, the first Megaman game was going to be an Astro Boy game, then an arcade game, then a Famicom Disk System game. There's also sample carts for MM3 and MM5 floating around somewhere, if I remember correctly.

Then years later, we got "Omega Factor" (GBA) and the PS2 title. Looked like Inufaune wanted a mascot back then, he probably declined it.

Um no, Strategy is a full game.
I haven't heard it being released as a demo before... ^^ </wii>

* Rockman EXE 5 DS Twin Leaders Prototype (with lots of 3D elements, like characters and maps)
This is actually something I was partly involved with finding.
Back in early 2007 (9th of January to be precise), I started messing around with looking inside of games with tilers. I ended up finding some curious tiles. Everyone was like "WTF, Higsby?".

This didn't evolve much until recently, when MegaRockEXE dug a little deeper. With the help of Barubary from SI, the full textures' true colors could be determined. From maps to sites to battle panels, there were plenty of possibilities.

(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y108/OmegaNine/sprites/ryusei_glitches/0_t0_p0.png)(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y108/OmegaNine/sprites/ryusei_glitches/28_t0_p0.png)(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y108/OmegaNine/sprites/ryusei_glitches/28_t1_p1.png)
(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y108/OmegaNine/sprites/ryusei_glitches/27_t5_p5.png)(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y108/OmegaNine/sprites/ryusei_glitches/27_t0_p0.png)(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y108/OmegaNine/sprites/ryusei_glitches/29_t3_p3.png)

Then MegaRockEXE found MORE, being able to build the maps and models.

I've been tracking this one down for years:

Fortunately, I found one guy who owns it but his pricing was just way too much for my wallet ($200). Supposedly, this build has X playable during the opening stage instead of Axl/Zero.

I don't think I would pay $200 for X7 even if it was encased in gold.

X being in the intro stage isnt special?
plus, which build was it? the really early one looked rather cool, it was only an intro stage, with no background save for a purplish X1 type gradient.

An oldie but a goodie.  Very first MM mystery I put online.  Maybe I ought to scan better scans ... ?
This is the "Emerald Palace Zone" of the MM fandom IMHO.  Lots of scans, but nothing else.

Rockman Strategy isn't a beta.  It's just incomplete.  Rockman Soccer is also incomplete.  Sadly, this doesn't make them more interesting .... just poorly done.  On the upside, RMS being incomplete let me rip all the graphics, so ... there's that.

I've been collecting all the recent beta stuff found for my next update to MM Mysteries ... gotta add a link to ProtoDude's Corner to that section while I'm at it.  Lots of good stuff there.

also, I think this was the build shown in gamepro. I remember at first, the lava stage was supposed to be a timed area where you had to destroy a certain number of a certain enemy.

a demo review of X7, with apparently only 3 playable stages. the intro stage, the lava stage, and the tunnel base stage.
in the lava one you have to destroy 30 target enemies, and the stage is timed, and in the tunnle stage you have to save 16 reploids trapped in giant "crates"

and of course, X is playabe in the intro stage. in fact, he seems to be the only playabe character in the demo.

Sure, an old quote, but this reminds me of (slightly off-topic warning) how Donkey Kong originated as a Popeye game. Since Miyamoto couldn't get the rights to Popeye, he changed Olive Oyl into Pauline, Bluto into DK, and Popeye into Mario (or Jumpman, as he was known back then). After all, Mario didn't become Mario until later, when they named him after Mario Segali (think that's it), the landlord of an NOA warehouse, if memory serves. A few years after the DK Arcade game, Miyamoto did get the rights to Popeye, and a game was made from that license. If that was off-topic, sorry. But the quote brought that to mind.

Well, I've been chipping away at an update on you're favorite section and mine for the last few days.  So much proto stuff has been found since I last updated that thing ... Protodude's definately doing a good job keeping track of it all.

Did that PC3 beta ever get "dumped"?  Because if it did, I'm kind of wondering what mysteries the sprite data holds.

The Battle and Fighters sprite tiles don't show any surprises.  YD and Wily are in there, so it might be that this trial is a truncated final or a beta really close to production.

RM7 beta actually has a different sprite for Bass talking and the pumpkin has different colors.  Also ... Mad Grinder's odd.  Really odd.  I'm trying to look at him from a developer's POV, understand.

Okay, he's unbroken in the intro AND he shoots fire.  But he does neither in the game.  You'd think this would suggest an earlier attack pattern, but he doesn't do this in the beta either!  Moreover, he doesn't shoot fire in PF.  So I'm wondering WTF is up with this guy.  Of course they could have planned the story out first (and got approval) and took out those attacks later on.

We almost never talk about them here, which is a shame... o.o Miyabi has a list of toys on our Wikispace after all...

I don't think there's a lot to talk about toys to warrant a thread just about them, but you guys make the calls.

Either way, Banpresto's Command Mission gashapons:
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v226/muchalucha/Megaman/command_gashapon1.jpg)(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v226/muchalucha/Megaman/command_gashapon2.jpg)(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v226/muchalucha/Megaman/command_gashapon3.jpg)

The line was just constantly delayed and delayed until it faded into obscurity. I remember reading some japanese fan sites ranting on it, but I can't recally any specifics. Some stuff I recovered via archive.org (my own notes though) said that the line was supposed to have 10 figures, even if the only confirmed ones were the five in the poster at the fair.

That's one I'll have to add to the wiki whenever I get around to getting serious on the toys page. I really would have loved to have that set. But yeah, I don't think there really are a ton of toys to list or much to discuss about them.

The only figures I own that never made it to shelves are the NT Warrior Series 3 Burnerman and Shademan prototypes. Old photo is a couple months old:

For anyone who doesn't know, the set was going to be Burnerman, Freezeman, Aqua Custom Megaman, Elec Brother Megaman, and Wood Shield Megaman. Shademan was more of a rumor as I recall initially, until we saw the prototype as proof of a sixth figure. Of course back when we thought this Series was going to be released, the Sunny Side Up eBay guy seemed to put a decent number of them up for bids, but I don't know if there really were more than 15 of each sold. And that number could even be a little high. I still kick myself for not having the money to buy them all back then, but I kept holding out hope they'd come out. It was nice the 2 inch-figures from Series 3 did get released, even if it wasn't Stateside. In some respects, they're almost as rare as Series 2's Wood Soul.

Another NT Warrior figure nobody has really ever confirmed if it existed was the Series 1 2-inch Shadowman vs. Aqua Custom Megaman. You can see it in the bottom left here from the initial line unveiling:

Never have seen it for sale anywhere, and chances are it never did make the cut. But why, who knows? Muramasa Blade too sharp for youngin's? Ninja were anti-American? Probably not just me, but that was the one I wanted more than any of that set.

There's those unreleased Jazwares figures of Knightman, Trigger, a Pantheon, Sigma, Shadow armour X, and a heavily battled-damaged Megaman. Apparently there wasn't enough interest in the line to justify releasing them. A damned shame. (http://photos.figures.com/showgallery.php?cat=1792)

Seriously, Jazwares, (http://photos.figures.com/showgallery.php?cat=2215) let's see some releases. (http://photos.figures.com/showgallery.php?cat=3464)

Well, now that you guys brought EGM to the table...

There was this (apparently) spin-off called "EGM²" (yes, ²). In its November 1995 issue if I recall right (cover had Thanos and the main story was about Marvel Super Heroes) they had a walkthrough for a beta version of X3 - down to the boss names and weapons still being in Japanese and what have you.

The most obvious difference I could sight is that Bit and Byte's sprites are different from the final version. But I took a closer look at the article, and there are some other different sprites for some of the eight bosses, as well as some swapped backgrounds. Nothing nowhere as enticing as removed bosses, but a curiosity nonetheless. Here:
Catfish's and Buffalo's sprites are different from the final versions. If Sprites INC is any notice, Buffalo doesn't even have that dash pose in the final version.

Tiger's sprite also seems a little different, and his background and the sub-boss' were swapped in the final version.

And the most glaring differences, Bit and Byte:

Awsome?  I think the sphinx boss looks awful!  I can see why it was removed ... it reminds me of Super Mario Land.  But as far as beta stuff goes this is awsome!  Very nice!  And great job on the customs!

I think the canon in Ring's stage are supposed to be red ... if it weren't for image quality.  Interestingly enough, this looks like a different build than the beta pics I have in the Mysteries right now.

Notice Ringman's level.

Edit:  Someone's making a list?  How about the Rockman 6 Trial?  Info is scant on that, tho.

The the sprite viewer; still in the game, but undoubtibly a testing tool.

Rockman 2:

Blocky trees!    Sadly, the only beta pic that's worth it's salt.

This counts as a trial too.
It's kind of nostalgic.  Was anythign changed from this build?  Aside form the obvious...

This guy (http://assemblergames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=306760&postcount=41) has a LOT of beta/prototype stuff in his possession:

Quote
Ok, I went through my Mega Man/Rockman betas, and I have:

GameCube NR Disk-Mega Man Anniversary Collection

NES-
Mega Man 2
Mega Man 3
Mega Man 4
Mega Man 5

SNES-
Mega Man 7
Mega Man Soccer (early, no gameplay)
Rockman X3 (early version, says Sample on the title screen)

Game Gear-
Mega Man

Game Boy
Mega Man 2
Rockman World (similar to the one found on Yahoo Auctions, but in English with NOA info on title screen
Mega Man 3
Mega Man V

GBA-
Mega Man Battle Network 2 (debug version)

Anybody care to bargain/persuade this fellow into dumping some of these? I mean c'mon, a Mega Man V prototype?  That's insanely awesome.

EDIT: Found the guy who owns the X7 E3 build. (http://assemblergames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=282467&postcount=6)

I say we all pitch in some cash and take these babies off their hands. Some of this stuff has to be worth hundreds.

And if you didn't catch the point: all tiles have to be 16x16, dictating the size of that boss to be much larger.

Post by: VixyNyan on May 03, 2009, 07:51:26 PM
There's also 8x8. Rockman fits inside a 24x24 tile. ^^

You might need 8 more pixels on both sides for Rock to be able to shoot, walk and jump (32x32).
Title: Re: Rockman Betas, Trials, Promos and scrapped projects. The more rare, the bett

In terms of what can be shown, tiledata takes multiples of 8x8, but a lot of those can be transparent. However, when it comes to actual environmental tiles, Rock always stands on a multiple of 16x16, nor more no less. With the way SpeedReemix drew that boss, Rock would be standing in the air!

This isn't really a beta, but there's a picture of an MMX SNES cart...made by U.S. Gold. I dunno if some pirate just slapped U.S. Gold's logo on the cart label or if U.S. Gold changed parts of MMX's code, but I thought it was worth mentioning...

...because I just wondered what Best of Megaman was like during development. Anyone bothered searching the ROM for unused bits yet?

I searched the rom and it looked pretty clean to me.  But I'm not very good at the tile stuff, so there still migtht be something interesting there.  I wish i could hack it so that MM has Toad's and Wave's weapons at the beginning of the game .... just to see if they were programemd to interact with RMs they weren't supposed to.

Yeah, but lemme put it this way:

Are you familiar with the Megaman 3 beta?  The one which just has some programming and graphical glitches, but is otherwise exactly the same as the final?

That is not worth $100.  I mean it's "cool" to have something unique, but if it's almost exactly like the final, then it isn't worth it IMHO.

This is gonna be a tough one, but...does anyone have any magazine previews of the first Megaman, or any visual evidence that it was originally going to be an Astro Boy/arcade/FDS game?

I know I've got an early RnR1 preview lying around here somewhere, but God knows when I'll be able to scan it...

I don't think that there is any prototype of an arcade MM game; I think it was always just a very early idea that got shelved before the game went into production.

NES:

SNES:

Mega Man Soccer (early, no gameplay)

Everything is going for well over a $100. You can either buy the proto itself or have them dump it for you. Either way, it's gonna cost.

I called Protodude for this. The seller is DreamTR, a prototype collector who is kindly willing to dump his prototypes in return for a bit of cash in return for what he originally invested in them. His "affiliate" who's posting this is "drx", who is also famous in the Sonic community for leaking over a thousand protos on Feb. 28, 2008.

Just thinking though, it probably wouldn't cost as much a say a copy of BioHazard/Resident Evil 1.5 for $2000. A prototype of Rockman X3 would most likely cost in the lower hundreds. But that's just me. I think we as a MM community should pitch in, make some sort of a donation drive, and buy as much as we can. Again, that my rear end talking. No seriously, I think we all should take this opportunity before its gone for good.

Quote
Mega Man 2 -$850
Mega Man 3 -$700
Mega Man 4 -$750
Mega Man 5 -$750

GameBoy
Rockman World -$750
Megaman 2 -$750

GameBoy Advance
Mega Man Battle Network 2 (debug) -$400

GameGear
Mega Man -$750

SNES
Rockman X3 sample -$1000
Mega Man 7 -$750
Mega Man Soccer (no gameplay)-$250

---

I know for a fact that Rockman world is early and is an English Japanese hybrid and Rockman X3 has a lot of differences. No idea on any other protos.

Let me know how much you can spare on each proto and we'll see if we can work something out.

Rockman X4 Trial Disc
Product code: SLPM 80121

Appeared on Y! Auctions Japan a little over six months ago, has since to reappear.  Supposedly, it contains a demo of Rockman X4 and some videos related to RM8 and B&C. No clue where this came from, I'm certain it wasn't a pack-in; possibly a Capcom Friendly club promo thing.

No PSX product code databases lists the disc, so I guess you could consider it rare.

Awesome. I hope we get our hands on that Trial, and see the insides.

Also, I'm surprised no one is even trying to get that Rockman X3 prototype. I know it's $1000, but if we could just work together....

EDIT: Hell I'll donate some money now if we act.

The problem with "all of us working together" to own something like that is that only one person can actually own it while the others have, basically, just gifted the money.

The fair way to go about it is to have the rom dumped so that all fans can enjoy it. If it costs less to have them dump it, that would be beneficial, but if it must be purchased in full, then maybe the greatest contributor should receive it and everyone else would make do with a rom dump, provided the dump must be made some way or another and that it is playable via emulators. It's still a high amount to accumulate even pooling funds, though...

I'm not sure about the build of that second screenshot, but the first one was definitely an early preview.

Hey, remember those previews of Megaman 3 that called Protoman "Bruce"? 8D I dunno how far along they were, so to speak, but they might be worth scanning if anyone has 'em. I'll try to find that SF1 preview I mentioned forever ago.

I don't know if this counts...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlZhcjIy-z0

The following items have names in the MMSF1 rom.  They are not used, but intriguing.

(click to show/hide)

There are also full names for weapons that are never used.
(click to show/hide)

MMSF2 has an ability called Six Star that does nothing.

All the BN games (except 1) and SF games have a little section of text reserved for debugging.  They are described briefly and the effect, when put into normal play, works like it described.

See them here.

No, I don't believe that there was any english text in the game... I just checked a minute ago and didn't see any. So that could very well be a photo of a working english translation to Rockboard.

hey. i'm new here. i'm working on a beta mega man legends 2 article for unseen64, and i was just wondering if any of you could help? i've never played the game, so i can't realy tell what is and isn't beta.

here's what i've got:

video. according to protodude, it's mostly just gameplay from the MML2 demo disk that came with the japanese version of Missadventures of Tron Bonne, but starting at about 1:08, a village not used in the final game is supposed to be seen. having never played the game, i can't tell myself.

There's something about these two here that bug me.
First one is that the Homing Missile's texture is navy blue when in the final it's a grayish one. I'll check here and see if that train looks the same too.

hello, bowsersenemy again with more beta, this time, Mega Man X Command Mission. just curious if anyone here knows of anything i missed, of if i'm calling any of this beta when i shouldn't be:

Demo Videos

There's some unused dialoge between the characters, namely what Cinnamon says to you... that, and the fact that she's even where she is doesn't make much sense. The fight with Wild Jango starts VERY differently in the final, and although the battle area is right, how you get there, is WAY off. Also, you go into battle with X, Zero, and Axl. In the final version, all you have at your side is Spider, but then, in this demo, almost everything is out of order, so I just assume it's a demo from E3 or something, which would make sense. In the final, the voices and text are in english, instead of like in the videos. Also, these were uploaded to IGN on august 6th i think, at least a month before american release, and just after japanese release.

Pictures

Prototype(?) version

In these, the most notable difference is that X is in his standard form. No special colors, just standard X. In the final, he looks MUCH different. And to those that have played the game themselves, notice the vendor for the shop just to the right of X? Vendor my eye, that's an enemy! Also, the attack seen in the In Battle picture, is currently unknown. It appears to be a Final Strike. Also of note, the Battle HUD is different from next version's, and also different from the final. And, take notice and compare the Battle HUD in this version, the the one in the next version. Something odd going on here.

Version 2 (beta)

Here can be seen a few differences from the final. Dialoge is different, battle HUD is different, and so is the map.

NOTICE THESE!

I wanted to do a special point out for the above pictures. Character mugshots are in the "turn" lineup, that aren't even in the battle at the moment. Also, I could be wrong, but, I don't think you can switch characters mid battle, and even if you could, how could it predict something that hasn't been set yet? My personal guess is that there was more to the battle system planned at this stage of development. Also of note, is that the Battle HUD is the EXACT SAME in all three pics, so at this point, it's just as possible that the HUD is just an overlaying image. Look at the numbers used for the character stats even. they go in almost perfect sequence. i mean, X's life energy and weapon energy put together, read 1234567, then zero's reads 7890234, axl's reads 3456456.

Version 3 (near final)

There's not alot here that's different from the final, but still of note, is the fact that the beta map is still in use. The final map, isn't too much different than the beta map in either version, but one very noticable difference is the white lines on the right and bottom sides are gone in the final.

Now then. Like I said, if there's something I missed, please let me know, or if there's something i'm calling beta and isn't, let me know that too.

Since I recently received my Rockman DASH CFC Demo disc I've been trying to find if there is anything left over in it. Going through ROCK_NEO.exe turned up the following things:

Beginning at Offset 0005A440 It lists out the directories and files used to compile this demo.
E:\PSX\ROCK_NEO\EXE\LOGO.EXE....................................E:\PSX\ROCK_NEO\EXE\ZNULL.DAT
Neither of these files are on the CD though. Probably not worth much though judging by their names.

Next interesting item appears around offset 0005D7A0
ðò...... NORMAL......¨.. BUSTER......¸.. M_GUN.......È.. SHOT........Ø.. DRILL.......è.. BOMB........ø.. SPREAD......... VACUUM.....................................F... NORMAL.....F¨.. BUSTER.............¾... HELMET.....¾¨.. HAIR...............F@.. ON.........FP.. OFF.........@.. TYPE A......P.. TYPE B.....¾@.. SMALL......¾P.. BIG....

Looks like we have a weapon list for the first part:
Normal - obviously when you can't use your buster
Buster - obvious =P
M_GUN - Machine gun
SHOT - ?? A different name for the Powered Buster possibly?
Drill - Drill Arm
Bomb - Splash Mine most likely
Then SPREAD and VACUUM are obvious.

Next bit that's interesting is the Helmet text, I'm curious if there is some way to turn on Mega Man's helmet since from earlier videos he started out with the helmet.
They Type A, Type B is most likely just the control choices
No clue what SMALL/BIG are though.

Possibly later on tonight I was going to try changing the On to Off or the Off to On to see if it has any results with gameplay.

Has anyone found anything else going through any of the files?

Rockman 6 = 0:12

There's very little Eng. text in RockBoard, and none whatsoever during that particular event depicted in the screenshot. I think you've stumbled upon a most interesting discovery: a cancelled English version of RockBoard!

The news has been spreading around and the credit is being given to Keiji. Which is not particularly amusing since I sent the same information to several sites (months ago) and I was ignored.

I just wanted to note changing the ON and OFF text that showed up seemed to have no effect at all on gameplay. I did learn one interesting thing though today I hadn't seen mentioned on here before and it's not mentioned on the control layout before starting the beta. Press L2+L1 or R1 and you will do a 90 degree turn. Looks like this was removed from the final in favor of the 180 degree turn using down+O.

Wasn't this control scheme in that Capcom Friendly Club demo as well? I recall holding down the L2 and pressed the Right/Left directional button to do a turn.

Pretty uncomfortable control scheme really.

That's the demo I'm referring to. =P The info I gave may not be new, but from what I've seen it hasn't been documented anywhere.

I have spring break coming up soon so I want to see if I can dig into any of the files some to find any more leftovers. It seems a lot of the documentation online is only comparing gameplay and graphical differences. There may be leftover things such as textures or sound clips not used in the demo or final. I'm also curious if any special weapons are in the demo in some form considering they are mentioned in the ROCK_NEO.exe. Problem is I haven't had much experience with many of the stuff here. So it's like a 1000 piece puzzle and it's one solid color.

Well I have some good news in a world where proto findings aren't very common. Some of you may have heard of DreamTR before, but anyways he is a well known person in the world of prototype sales. Anyways I'm going to be purchasing a Mega Man X6 proto. No clue how early or late it is. I just know it's not a retail disc, but I will be dumping it as soon as it arrives.

He also has a proto for Mega Man Anniversary Collection (PS2) that was marked March of 2004 (3 months before release) and previewable disc of Command Mission for PS2 and a NR Reader disc for the game cube version. Again no clue on how early or late those are (minus the Anniv. Col. disc), but unfortunately I just had a ~$400 car repair, and I don't have the money for all four discs. They're all roughly $50/piece and my b-day is this friday so hopefully I'll get some birthday cards in the mail from family that will help my proto buying. =)

Here's to hoping there is anything interesting on the disc, but don't get your hopes too far up. It's most likely close to final, but might have leftovers like test levels and crap.

Posted on: August 17, 2010, 07:33:38
Got it in the mail today. On the disc is written 9-28-01 so it's 2 months prior to the jap release. Doing a quick start the main difference is they don't have the Rockman X6 load screen implemented yet it still says Rockman X5, but the colors are really messed up. EDIT- Actually it does say Rockman X6 the colors are just so off it looks like a 5.

I don't have a working cd-rom drive at the moment so I have to wait to be able to use my friends laptop so I can dump it. Expect a dump shortly though! =)

oh another "major" finding. The Title screen text is Yellow instead of white. =P

the load screens and options screens are incomplete. They only take up about 2/3 of the screen horizontally.

In game I tried accessing the controller setup screen. Can you say [tornado fang]'d up?

VERY Interesting. Especially the part select.

Do you think you could get a clearer shot of the parts select screen? i cant quite make out the figures because of the TV lines.
Try to get a shot from the front.

If it gets dumped, you can snap a pixel-perfect 1:1 image with either pcsx or epsxe (with the right video settings).

That is- if it GETS dumped. :\

It will be dumped tonight. The only working cd drive I have has a lot of read problems so I wouldn't trust it with making a rip. A friend of mine is coming over tonight and with his computer so I can rip it. Maybe don't expect an upload till tomorrow though it is my 21st birthday so I have to have some fun! ;)

Then we can finally really start digging into this to see what beta stuff there is.

Also I let the demo play once and X is retarded as hell!  8D

Flame- to answer your question they are the same to figures on both sides (just mirrored). The figure closer to the middle appears to be the falcon armor and the other appears to be the blade armor(I think?).

Wow, this is fun. And I thought that beta screenshot of X6 was cool. Actually, if gate's stages are here, It might just look like that screenshot!

You should seriously consider submmiting this information to the owner of the website, gaunlet, of www.themechanicalmaniacs.com

he always documents everything possible concerning betas, pirates, proto's and so on for all the mega man games in the series from NES to nintendo DS literally.

shadowman@cogeco.ca
i dont know if this is still his email. last time i talked to him via that email was in feburary 2007.
worth a try though. (or register on the forum on his website to contact him via PM)

There's a WARNING voice clip now. Intro Stage BGM is shorter.
When Nightmare Zero slashes the intro boss, there's no sound.
The wind sound effect where Gate is in the sand field doesn't exist.

Glad someone is able to do videos. For some reason epsxe isn't working right with ubuntu on my desktop, and my laptop is a little netbook so it can't do the emulator and video at the same time. =P

Now that I have a new dvd drive I'm going to fix windows on my desktop so I can record videos too.

Been playing through it, spotted quite a few oddities:

-There are no sound effects during cutscenes (such as hums of machines or howling winds), only voices.
-Falcon Armor's Giga Attack lacks sound effects.
-Stage background graphics are incomplete in some areas.
-High Max's battle sprite is a brighter hue.
-Nightmare Viruses in Commander Yammark's stage do not infect rescuable Reploids.
-When fighting Nightmare Zero, his armor is traditional red whereas in the final, it's purple/pink.
-Rainy Turtloid's stage music is slightly different, lacking certain instruments.
-As seen in early screens, the giant Reploid, Illumina, is restrained.

An interesting thing is the midbosses in Blaze Heatnix stage. They don't shoot projectiles out and the flames that rise up during one boss are a red/orange color. Which is weird since the real early screenshots show blue-ish flames and the final has purple.

Edit - More stuff!

If this area wasn't annoying already they had to have a misplaced tile. =P
(http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/ab68/SkaargX/Rockman%20X6%20Proto/badtile.png)

Umm now what? This was a bit of a level breaker here. I'm assuming the changes are because it's a nightmare stage (I honestly can say I haven't played X6 all the way through many times so my mind is fuzzy). It's impossible to get past this point unfortunately. It is taking a very long time to kill myself...

Edit2- Finally got to fight "Nightmare" Zero. As already mentioned he's his normal color, but there's another oddity. If you don't jump at all when he does his ground smash move the screen will move up. If you keep letting him do this without jumping you'll be near the top of the screen.

Interesting...

I'm looking forward to the part where the game's code is sifted through to see if there's anything different regarding the Nightmare System, like seeing what little bits of dirty code remain different from the final. The back of the X6 case in the U.S. makes the whole thing sound much more interesting than what it ultimately turned out to be.

Small bug in the X6 proto(Something you may have noticed if you played it): The icons and pallette's for the weapons are out of order. Yammark's weapon uses the Metal anchor icon and has the pallette X would use for the Metal anchor weapon. Blizzard's is switch for Shellhead's.

I ripped the game's XA music format, and I've uploaded one of the very few alternate tracks from the prototype to YouTube. So far, the only tracks known to sound different from the final are the Opening Stage and Rainy Turtloid's Stage Theme. I've just uploaded the prototype version of the Opening Stage theme on YouTube for your eyes and ears to enjoy. =) I'm doing this so no one has to!

I hope to get around uploading the prototype version of Rainy Turtloid's Stage Theme very soon! Expect some gameplay footage of the prototype  from me very soon as well!

But no, it's not. Listen to my video again.

The prototype version isn't missing just the guitar riff from the English version, it's missing the main instruments of the final melody as well (Specifically for example, on 0:30-0:49 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7fLe57pOUA#t=30s) and 1:08-1:27 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7fLe57pOUA#t=1m8s) in my video, & 0:30-0:49 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JL0Bt7AprJ8&#t=30s) on the video link you posted), that's what makes it unique enough for me to upload it on YouTube. Not to seem defensive, but I've done my research on the matter, otherwise I wouldn't have posted the track here in the first place.

EDIT: WHEW! Did a lot of back n' forth to get the YT URL timings right! Plus my connection sucks.

Wow. That sounded interesting.

I played it today. it was cool. I noticed that when X hits something with the saber, theres a different sound effect behind the actual saber's sound, used for the actual slice sound.

When he gets hit, that damage "shock" sprite is blue/cyan instead of the usual yellow

Is it just me, or is the falcon armor's dash ACTUALLY halfway decent here? I can swear that it actually covers more distance than in the final. Also, it has a different sound effect when he air dashes. sounds more like the sound effect from when he flies with he armor.

The portals to the alternate paths are green instead of blue...

in the intro stage, at the point where you have to wait for the rolling enemy to drop down before you can continue up the wall- there are two. wasnt there just one in the final?

Nightmare Zero has no sound PERIOD. only sounds in the battle are X's and the music.

X and Zero have low health phrases for when they hit low health, (like they had in X4) Which I dont recall being in the final. (unless it was in japan only)

the boss names are voiced when the boss selected screen appears, (unless thats a japanese thing that was removed from the US release)

Then the-

Sorry for the late response, college work has been so much lately and a bit of family issue..

I actually did not get to buy them, but I am in contact with the person who did buy them trying to get them dumped. The person uploaded a copy of the PS2 prototype for Command Mission, but it did not play in any emulators for me so I didn't know if it was a bad dump or upload or what. The person did say it was the E3 demo though.

As for the Gamecube NR disc we're still trying to figure that out. I sent an email about the PS2 demo not working and a possible way to dump the Gamecube NR disc, but haven't heard back and that was nearly 2 weeks ago if I recall. If anybody on here knows a surefire method to dump Gamecube NR discs that would be awesome though!

The Wii can do it. Use a ''DVD Dumper'' homebrew with some IOS and MIOS installed in the Wii and it will be able to dump the ISO to a SD Card or a FAT32 Drive. To play it on a Wii again (a bit more challenging on a Gamecube), all you need is burn that Gamecube ISO into a DVD-R with MultiISO Creator and then start the game with NeoGamma or similar. ^^;

Interesting...  I'd share money to get a beta or prototype   <3  I'd buy Mega Man Mania in a less than a heart beat.  8)

Most people I know would buy one and not only keep it to themselves but brag about having it, like they are the only fan that would want to play such a thing. There is no sense in that. Telling other fans that they can't have it is the same as telling yourself that you can't have it. Yeah I understand that some people pay a lot of money for such things sometimes but if you want to keep it to yourself then there's is no point in mentioning that you have such a thing. The people will constantly ask you to get a copy from you and what not. It's pointless and showing off in such a manner makes you look like a greedy douche-bag.

I don't know if it's available anywhere but I have a Rockman X7 trial disc for PS2 (if it's not around on any site I can upload it if anyone wants it). The same place I got it from also had an X6 trial disc for PS1 but by the time I got there it was gone  >_< They haven't had anymore since then  :'(

This reminds me of when I contacted a guy in Japan (http://www.disgruntleddesigner.com/chrisc/RMProto/) several years ago for the Rockman World prototype, which I almost got from him but then he changed his mind.  :\

There are also some earlier builds of Mega Man Anniversary Collection that I know of form the following dates:
August 2003, November 2003, December 2003, various build in February 2004. I have some info on these that I'm putting together and when I have it ready I'll let you guys see. I think I have a screen shot saved somewhere shot as well. I'll post it when I find it.

Mega Board is a game based on famous board games such as Monopoly or Turista, where you must purchase property as you advance, but what makes Mega Board so special are the famous characters from the Mega Man series. Can you imagine Mega Man telling Dr. Wily to pay him rent for landing on one of his properties? A game that is %100 familiar and will bring hours of entertainment.

3rd Paragraph:
Capcom has many plans for the future, but without a doubt their most important announcement, is the introduction of their famous hero Mega Man on the Super NES in the game Super Mega Man, so you better prepare yourself to see one super game, as it is a custom at Capcom.

The rest just talks about the Disney games Capcom was working on. Is it me, or does this article sound like super cheesy advertising? I have no idea about a Turista board game though.

I think I still have this magazine *crosses fingers* If I do, I scan clearer images.

I had this too and I haven't seen it since the early 90's. EGM kicked so much ass back then. Good times.  8) I have some old EGMs still, maybe there are some goodies there I forgot about.

These same sprites (http://debugunused.wikia.com/wiki/Mega_Man) are also on the the Rockman Complete Works version for the PS1, except they are in color (just how they would have appeared in the game if the were used). And yes Dr Light is pointing upward and has his mouth wide open (probably yelling at Mega man for coming home so late, and how he was worried, and Roll couldn't sleep, ect...) XD  Speaking of this same game, there is a build that I noticed had a Flash option just like RM2 & 3 Complete works do. No other difference that I noticed though  X(

I just wanted to update on the status of these. We got the Gamecube NR disc ripped and unfortunately it's just a reviewable copy so it's essentially exactly the same as the final. (So no beta maps or combat system  :() Considering it is pretty much the final game I don't think the staff would like it too much if I were to release that on here. If someone says otherwise I'll upload it and you can examine for yourselves, but I don't believe there are any differences.

As for the PS2 E3 demo it's getting re-ripped so hopefully I'll have that soon to examine and share!

Now to give credit where credit is due. All of the Command Mission stuff is all thanks to a member that reads and submits info to Protodude's blog Alkaid (aka Ralene). Ralene paid for the two Command Mission prototypes when I was unable to, to make sure they got dumped and the information was given to the community. I'm thankful to Ralene that contact has been kept this whole process to make sure the discs are dumped properly and that we can get them preserved and unleash any findings in the games.

DeGamer - I'm really curious what items you have since I didn't think the X7 trial disc was public. I knew a collector bought one a while back, but didn't release anything. Anything you're able to provide and/or release would be great!

Actually, I ended up buying this X7 trial disc years after I had sold my Japanese PS2 (I never had the US system). So believe it or not I have not even played it yet  :o Because of that, at one point I forgot I had it. What makes it worse is the store I bought it from had tons of trials discs for many systems. I bought about thirty-something trials disc from for different systems (Saturn, PS1, Dreamcast, PS2, and Gamecube) so that made it hard for me to remember what I had just bought. RMX7 and the Rockman Dash were the only MM related trial discs. I'll rip it and upload it I have no problem with that. Just give me a place to put the upload too, unless you want it split into different RAR files on Megaupload or something. Here's some temp pics. I'll take better shots tomorrow and edit this post with them.

(http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/1913/rmx7trialfront.jpg) (http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/4880/rmx7trialback.jpg) (http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/7430/rmx7trialdisc.jpg)

As for that Gamecube NR disc, do you know the date for it? Could you upload it anyway? I'd like to compare some files from the finalized disc to that version, because even the finalized MM Anniversary Collection disc has unsed/disabled content.

That EGM that Rodrigo Shin posted pics from X3 is not in my closet so I don't have it anymore  :( However, I did find three magazines that each have one Mega Man game (X1, X2, MM7) before they were released. I'll have to look at each pic closely (lots of pics here) to see if they contain differences from the finals. I did find this pic while browsing my old mags, which I thought some may want to see:

EDIT: I posted better pictures of the X7 trial and added a pic of the disc.

It's late on my end, and I'm tired, so run this by me again: these are getting dumped, right? Also, Ralene is a trooper  ;)

I had some free time today so I ripped it and uploaded it. Check your PM.

I'll post a link for everyone else later. Protodude will check for me if the ISO works. Again, I no longer have a PS2 and I've never played played this trial so I don't know what it's like. To make it worse, after I ripped it and tried it with PCSX2 & NeutrinoSX2. The game does not run (no display). I was hoping to play it myself, but I guess not.

Burned the game on a CD-R. Works just fine, but hangs after the "press start screen." Might have just been a bad burn on my part. Will try again tomorrow, but there's nothing wrong with the .iso itself.

From what I've observed so far, the demo might be the E3 Special Edition one I showed a few pages back. This demo, supposedly, has X playable in the opening stage.

I'll let you all know if anything happens.

Are talking about the same issue where I took that screen shot from or other issues as well? If so, which issues are they? Do you know the volume numbers?

I believe I saw some of the ideas for those in the AVGN Nintendo Power Episode.

That was funny XD. But one thing people don't seem to get is that the original games were made specifically for the Japanese audience which is why certain names/things will look awkward/silly/stupid/weird to us. Not only that, a lot of American gamers seem to forget that there is a world outside of the US :P

Burned the game on a CD-R. Works just fine, but hangs after the "press start screen." Might have just been a bad burn on my part. Will try again tomorrow, but there's nothing wrong with the .iso itself.

I have no idea why that happens :( The rip does work though and since Protodude couldn't cover it unfortunately, I made a brief video about it here:

I first tried recording it with Hypercam, but kept getting issue with the audio/video sync. It's a shame as I had played the whole trial too only to find out I couldn't upload the video like that. Different settings didn't help either.

I'm sure there are other differences somewhere on the disc itself which we could probably bump into by checking the files or through action replay codes but I'll leave that for someone else right now. There are quite a bit of files on the disc and I'd like to go through them but I'm still busy with other projects (PS1 translations). Here is the ISO:

I worked for me using PCSX2 (finally). If anyone gets it fully working on a real PS2 please post about it.  :)

Nothing major, but kind of humorous. =P

Pretty lame that Capcom made the game so easy with the super jump at the show. Makes sense now why it ended up in the final game I guess.

I saw those too. I unfortunately made the mistake as passing them off for random junk. I was changing multiple things at once and thus messed up the graphics and backgrounds to the opening stage and the ice stage. So when I saw those other stages, I thought it was due to the game showing random crap because of my tinkering. I'm glad you pointed it out though as I probably wouldn't have gone back to them. That's just there as a place holder. Capcom does this a lot as I've seen similar stuff in unfinished builds of their other games.

Oh, and that's how I heard the unused track I mentioned about in the video. That should have told me there were more stages  :-[

I'd actually like to change my youtube name. I've heard it's possible (unofficially) but I'm not sure.  :\ Anyone know of a way?

Anyone want to pitch in to buy any of the following betas?  o-O

NES-
Mega Man 2
Mega Man 3
Mega Man 4
Mega Man 5

SNES-
Mega Man 7
Mega Man Soccer (early, no gameplay)
Rockman X3 (early version, says Sample on the title screen)

Game Gear-
Mega Man

Game Boy
Rockman World (in English with NOA info on title screen)
Mega Man II
Mega Man III
Mega Man V

GBA-
Mega Man Battle Network 2 (debug version)

I believe it's $3000 for all of them (that is a lot) or maybe just pitch in to get the  Rockman X3 sample cart. Doesn't matter to me who gets to keep the cart cuz I'm not going to buy another Super Famicom/Nintendo to play it.  The rom will suffice for me.  XD Too bad there's no detail next to the other betas to note differences.  :(

I know who you're talking about with these protos, he's the one I got the X6 Proto from. Nobody would be getting any carts (unless he changed his mind). He just wants the money to dump and release them.
Did he really come down to $3000 to release them all? Originally he had these prices listed:

NES
Mega Man 2 - $850
Mega Man 3 - $700
Mega Man 4 - $750
Mega Man 5 - $750

SNES
Mega Man 7 - $750
Mega Man Soccer (early, no gameplay) - $250
Rockman X3 (early version, says Sample on the title screen) - $1000

Game Gear
Mega Man - $750

Game Boy
Rockman World (in English with NOA info on title screen) - $750
Mega Man II - $750
Mega Man III - ? -wasn't on his 2009 list
Mega Man V - ? -wasn't on his 2009 list

GBA
Mega Man Battle Network 2 (debug version) - $400

For all of that it came to nearly $8000. If he has come down that much I'd definitely be more interested in working with a fundraiser to get them dumped. Even if we didn't reach a goal of $3000 I'm sure we could get some of them dumped.

It makes sense though. Protoyypes are rare, because people DON'T have them. If they were to be dumped and distributed, their value would plummet and no one would care to own them. It's really a smart move, because the demand will be high enough eventually. Until then hes enjoying it and you aren't so no skin off his ass.

Post by: Teancum on March 10, 2011, 09:11:35 PM
I doubt the value would plummet. Just because most people willing to pay those high prices for rare games/protos want the originals. Most people that just use roms or are happy with repros don't think to them selves that they are going to pay $200+ for a proto. Although I do agree that he can probably care less if we ever end up with it. I hope he's at least made a personal backup for himself since I've heard plenty of stories from hoarders that refused to dump their disc/cart only to lose it or have it ruined/worn out somehow and become totally useless. I guess the thing is for me is when I seek out stuff like this I like to share it for all to enjoy and like finding others that do the same.

EDIT: Also I still don't know where this guys post thread is so I don't want to be quick to judge him I'm just going off of what skaarg said.

From my experience with DreamTR he is very nice and many people say he typically has fair prices. Which is definitely true for his disc based games. The X6 proto was bought for only $50, which I feel if anyone had checked the contents, it probably would have gone for more. I think cartridge games in general tend to be higher due to the fact there is a bit more work into preserving them and then the cost of dumping them is higher compared to a CD that can be popped into any computer.

As for the thing on hoarders, I used to hate them, but then I changed my mind a few years ago. The bottom line is nobody deserves the data, and technically nobody should have it. If something gets released I say be grateful for that. If a person pays money for (usually) stolen property they can do whatever they want with it.

Is there a thread or something of his you can link me too?

I guess i just get annoyed since many of these people would consider them selves hard core collectors that would be appalled at things like downloading roms but then find no qualms with charging money for a proto dump. Note I don't know anything about DreamTR specifically so I'm not trying to bag on him I just know that many people seem to have a double standard when it comes to these things.

EDIT: Found this (Google is my friend) http://forums.hidden-palace.org/viewtopic.php?t=2815&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0&sid=fb31bcc2ced78247e664336b87337582

It sounds like from what I can tell Drx is offering to buy the carts and dump them. I imagine that it would be possible to deal with DreamTR directly and purchase them. Probably a bit out of my price range though judging from the prices on drx's thread.

Did he really come down to $3000 to release them all? Originally he had these prices listed:

I talked to him several times and he said specifically it was for the carts, not ROM images (which is what I actually wanted as I sold my NES, SNES, Game Gear along time ago, still have a GBA though) And yep, $3000 for all of them. He also said that it was this much because they were not cheap for him to acquire.

The problem with prototypes/betas is the person who has them. Sometimes they do pay to get them and some times not. And if they are willing to share, it's usually for a price or a trade (This was the reason for me not getting them Rockman World prototype for the GB). Look at the Rockman 8 beta. The person who had it paid nothing for it and I asked him for a copy and looked what happened  8)

I doubt the value would plummet. Just because most people willing to pay those high prices for rare games/protos want the originals. Most people that just use roms or are happy with repros don't think to them selves that they are going to pay $200+ for a proto.

The value would only still be there for collectors wanting originals. And yeah most casual gamers could careless about betas/prototypes. Sometimes people pay money just for bragging. Look at the gold cart of Rockman 4, they're expensive, bot easy to come by and there's only a few of them ever made, but the game content is the same as the final. Why pay so much money for a different casing?

Although I do agree that he can probably care less if we ever end up with it. I hope he's at least made a personal backup for himself since I've heard plenty of stories from hoarders that refused to dump their disc/cart only to lose it or have it ruined/worn out somehow and become totally useless.

Some people don't care if others get it or not. Then there's people who do have such things and don't want anyone to have it despite knowing that many others would want it. I knew a person that had a very rare Resident Evil protoype only to lose it because he didn't make a back up.  -AC

I guess the thing is for me is when I seek out stuff like this I like to share it for all to enjoy and like finding others that do the same.

Same here  :)

I've also heard the same. Damn $50 for X6? I would have bought that right away.  ANd yeah, that's the unfortunate part about carts (epecially for older systems) which is why I wanted to buy the ROM images initially instead as I wouldn't have any way to dump them (except for GBA) and then I'd be the only one to have the game and that would make me the hoarder.  :P

As for the thing on hoarders, I used to hate them, but then I changed my mind a few years ago. The bottom line is nobody deserves the data, and technically nobody should have it. If something gets released I say be grateful for that. If a person pays money for (usually) stolen property they can do whatever they want with it.

Well, you're absolutely right about not supposed to be having them, but if I can buy them then why not?
As for hoarders, it really depends on the person. Some people hoard stuff so that it will have more value among collectors, which I can understand. Some other hoard stuff JUST BECAUSE they know other people want it and they don't want those people to have it (I guess it gives them a sense of control) and they like watching people reactions in not being able to obtain what they have. And some hoard for attention. Those last two are  o//////o

Awesome stuff, man. I think I once found some of those Legends ones when I was just starting my adventure into extracting stuff from games, namely the GEEMU OVAA from servbots. Can't remember if anything else.

Title: The known Unused, Unheard, Alternate dialogue of Mega Man Legends & Rockman Neo
Post by: OKeijiDragon on April 18, 2011, 02:43:10 AM
Being the sucker for pre-release/unseen/beta/oddities content for games that I am, I peeked into the XA directory of the Mega Man Legends disc, I've discovered what seems to be several unused voice dialogue pieces.

And I made a video of it two years ago, aptly titled Unused, Alternate, Unheard Dialogue of Mega Man Legends:

The unused dialogue includes alternate lines for MegaMan about unlocking the portals to the living quarters, to unheard cheering from the TV Reporter after presumably clearing the Bonnes' robots in City Hall, and more intended dialogue from the Inspector congratulating Mega Man for foiling the "bank robbery" in the game.

(click to show/hide)

But that's not all.

In the sequel to my video above (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qn20ZW76nYM), I reveal more unused speech inside the Mega Man Legends, and unused dialogue inside Rockman Neo.

I published this other video just yesterday about unused Japanese and more English voice dialogue that are inside the Rockman Neo, and Mega Man Legends' discs. (Rockman Neo is the pre-release version of Mega Man Legends that has several major differences from the final. For more information on that demo, visit my video for complete details (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aATYG9hmdUk).)

What does this mean for us English speaking users? Not only are these Japanese bits missing in the final version of DASH, but apparently their English counterparts can be found unused inside the Mega Man Legends disc as well! Details in the video!

Most interesting however, is that when you died, Mega Man Juno was to laugh at you on the Game Over screen. Cheerfully (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PD58HlGKLQ#t=38s). We've never heard him laugh before. Until now.

Please note that I am NOT the one who ripped all the Game Over, Juno, and Kobun speech samples. I only ripped out all the Rockman Neo speech content). I do not know the person who ripped them.

Just thought I'd share this interesting thing to everyone. Enjoy.  ;)

Title: The Rockman Neo pre-release video
Post by: OKeijiDragon on April 20, 2011, 05:17:49 AM
For those green in the Legends scene, this is Rockman NEO, the Japanese pre-release demo of Mega Man Legends. This demo was included in the BIOHAZARD 2 (Resident Evil 2) Trial Disc that was packaged with the Japanese first edition copies of Resident Evil: Director's Cut in 1997. This was only made available in Japan.

This video demonstrates the several major differences (in gameplay, audio, content etc.) in this pre-release that the annotations in the video will show. I know, I know. It's 35 minutes long, but it's full of information, beta trivia, and fun stuff! Plus, there's references to TauVertex's Mega Man Legends Abridged Series.

Most of it is explained in other sites, and in OKeijiDragon's video. It's mostly the change of Rock's hair, and the different layout for the Apple Market that are the more interesting bits. Rock's buster shots leaves a circular effect and a different sound effect after it hit an enemy, and the icon for the Special Weapons on the right side of the screen is different than the final version.

Oh I remember, you can't skip the cutscenes in Capcom Friendly Club or NEO versions. Those are the demos of the final game.

I took my own CFC disc and made a rip of it, and shared it over at Protodude's blog. I didn't get much credit for the sharing tho. ^^;

And I do own Biohazard 2 Trial Edition, if you choose Information, you can play NEO, and it was worth it to buy that. <3

Yeah, I know the feeling.  It's the wiki mentality, I tells ya!

On the topic at hand, I've actually been thinking of stopping Megaman Mysteries.  It was original when I first started, but now actual hackers are finding things at places like http://tcrf.net (and they are not fond of my own effors, I tell you) and more and more I find I'd just be replicating their content more than anything else (although they don't have any prototype screens, which is something at leat).

I could use some feedback and it's relevant to the topic.  Does it help to have things all at MM Mysteries?  Or do you guys think I should give it one last review and call it a day?

I don't know how many of you guys know about the Cutting Room Floor, but they do have a lot of relevant things there.  Definately worth checking out.

I thin tcrf has so much more than I could ever imagine. If MMM is costing you money to upkeep, I would say to try to work out some way to combine MMM into tcrf in exchange for some credit, or something. Unless you think your resources can produce a significant amount of unique information that tcrf does not. Also, remember that tcrf deals with things that are left in, not glitches. You might have an upper hand there.

@xnamkcor

MMM costs me nothing more than anythign else at the Mechanical Maniacs.  Other than time in maintaining and updating it, anyway.

TCRF is aware of MMM and thinks they're a "trainwreck".  They do have some valid points to that (the articles and section are in desperate need of an update), but they'd simply take what they wanted if they wanted it.  Seeing their work is what makes me question the value of MMM.

@VixyNyan

Really?  Even if I wind up copying some things from a wiki site like that?

The qestion isn't about deleting it.  I don't delete ANYTHING on the Mechanical Maniacs.  Ever.  And that MegaWrold damage guide is still good and not on tcrf.  Rather, I'm wondering if it's worth keeping it updated.  I hate to admit it, but I'm outclassed.  Right now, the only "unique" things I have to add are screens from the Official Guide to Megaman (which were posted somewhere before I got around to it) and info on the now-cancelled Megaman Universe.

Edit: And and insanely high-rez version of White City from Nintendo Power.  But I can post that regardless.
Title: More E3 1997 Mega Man Neo (Legends) footage uncovered (DASH Republic Exclusive)!
Post by: OKeijiDragon on June 08, 2012, 12:47:42 PM
In the dusk of this year's disappointing E3 2012 event, I, representing DASH Republic, would like to publically unveil a month and a half month old article the existence of another Mega Man Neo trailer that shows a little more detail of this particular alpha version of Legends 1 than what is known on the internet today.

http://www.dashrepublic.org/2012/04/24/mega-man-neo-footage-from-e3-1997-found/

Small excerpt from DASH Republic:
Quote
What you see above is old early alpha gameplay footage of Rockman NEO, or what would much later be known as Rockman DASH.

This footage features very many several key differences... This video features annotations by me that go over said differences... including a different Ferdinand boss model, a totally different city layout, and a completely different HUD that looks nothing familiar to the final version’s gameplay.

Please visit the site and read our awesome article on the subject! Thanks.

Title: Rockman DASH | October 1997 Trailer | PlayStation Taikenban Vol. 2
Post by: OKeijiDragon on August 31, 2012, 07:18:01 PM

This is a trailer of Rockman DASH from a special Japan-only demo disc, よい子とよいおとなの。 PlayStation 体験版 Vol.2 (roughly translated into English as "[The] Great Child & Great Adult. PlayStation Taikenban Vol. 2"). These demo discs were included in the console when you bought a new PlayStation in Japan.

The video, dated Oct 1997, contains an interesting mix of older Mega Man Neo footage combined with footage of later beta builds of Legends.

If anyone wants an ISO, I have one available here (http://www.mediafire.com/?guxvqv90yx8wixm).

Title: The Misadventures of Tron Bonne (English Debug Proto) | November 5, 1999
Post by: OKeijiDragon on May 28, 2014, 09:46:54 AM
Release Article at PRC (http://www.rockman-corner.com/2014/04/misadventures-of-tron-bonne-english.html) | DOWNLOAD (http://www.mediafire.com/download/6pyv6nrc5aw16f6/TRON_BONNE.rar)

I know I'm super late posting this, but an English Debug prototype of The Misadventures of Tron Bonne was released last month.

This, like the Mega Man Legends 2 English proto (http://hhttp://forum.rockmanpm.com/index.php?topic=1289.msg432944#msg432944), is a work-in-progress North American localization build of Tron Bonne with some debugging functions. Protodude shared me this prototype a few weeks prior to its release in April, giving me some time to put together the short video below.

http://youtu.be/jAp2m0Kp3EI#ws (http://youtu.be/jAp2m0Kp3EI#ws)The Misadventures of Tron Bonne (English Debug Proto) | November 5, 1999 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=jAp2m0Kp3EI)

Now the content itself isn't anywhere near as exciting as the MML2 prototype -- which is rather peculiar since this debug is dated just five months before the final English version was released in April 2000 and yet even more baffling, nothing major was changed between that time period. Like, they could have released this game a lot sooner than they did but its as if Capcom had no idea when to finally release it (actually, Capcom had little punctuality in sticking to their release dates during this era, especially in the US).

This version does grant the user the ability to access levels through the Level Select, freezing the action during gameplay, and even being able to disable the music as I show in the video. Perhaps hackers will have better luck on this digging out all sorts of stuff than I would have checking things out at first sight.

Enjoy.
Title: Mega Man 64 (PS1 to N64) Prototype Release
Post by: OKeijiDragon on February 27, 2016, 01:18:09 AM
Howdy everyone, it's been awhile since the last major Mega Man proto release. But in case you missed it, another Legends proto surfaced a month ago. An early prototype of Mega Man 64. Mega Man 64, as we all know, is the Nintendo 64 port of Mega Man Legends, originally released on PlayStation. From its petroleum-smeared textures to a stuttering framerate, as well as stripped content and badly compressed sound, MM64 is a mediocre port of great game, with character, personality and technical cleverness. It's what compelled me and several other cool dudes to preserve the prototype.

The video above exhibits, with annotations, the oddities throughout the proto and the test rooms that lurk underneath the surface of the game's code, all while poking fun of said things. It appears to be at the stage of when it was just being ported to the N64, as all reference to the PlayStation game remain in this proto. I hope you have fun watching and fun playing the proto.

You can DOWNLOAD (http://www.mediafire.com/download/s20cwz8shd68dn9/ROCKMAN_DASH_N64_Transition_Prototype.N64.bin) the prototype here. PixelButts began writing the page at TCRF (https://tcrf.net/Proto:Mega_Man_64).

Special thanks to coolmod, BoboMcCloud, PixelButts, Protodude. If I missed other folks, sorry!
Title: Battle Network 2 Debug Prototype Dumped
Post by: Mirby on May 19, 2016, 10:36:24 PM
Would've posted this in News but ya know, can't post topics there lol

Anyways, Rockman Corner (http://www.rockman-corner.com/2016/05/mega-man-battle-network-2-debug.html) got the debug prototype which is identical to the final game except with all the debug tools intact.
