Gaming / Re: Beating hard games like they owe you money

Fortune Summoners looks interesting. I hadn't heard of it; just checked it out on YouTube. I can't tell if it's sloppy in the way that you can't not take damage or if this guy just sucks. I'm also kind of afraid it uses leveling as too much of padding. I like upgrades and items more than I like numbers and HP. But it looks promising.

I do have to say there is a too hard for me. Like bullet hells, I respect them, but I don't really play them. But then again, that's a genre I'd never play alone. Well, I do play R-Type alone, but I never expect to beat it.

I have had a lot of moments where it was 3 AM, I was maybe a little too drunk for it, and I simply couldn't handle Ninja Gaiden 2 and put it down for the night.

I love replaying games, though. I much prefer a new experience, but I have enough games that I can cycle through them and it's not too repetitive to replay.

Thinking about upgrades and stuff made me think I need to get Demon's Crest, and thanks to Amazon's "other people who bought this also bought" function I was reminded Gargoyle's Quest 2 exists, and informed of Shatterhand and Power Blade, among others. All of those would be sweet to have. Gotta make me some money at my new job lol

It's never bothered me to be a girl in games. Supa supa kawaii and all that jazz.

Edit:
Haha, Shatterhand. Me too brah, me too. Bucky O'Hare is another one I gotta check out. I was looking at Vice Project Doom as well. That's not at the top of my list, though, because I'm not a huge Spy Hunter fan.

Now that you mentioned Street Fighter 2010 that's now on my list. But not higher than Shatterhand or Power Blade.

I really wanna play Castlevania 3. It looks so cool, and I never have. Little Nemo is the [parasitic bomb]. I was fortunate to have that since I was a little kid. I actually only saw the movie for the first time a few weeks ago. How I put that off for so long is a mystery to me.

EXE / What Giga Chips / Program Advances / Folders are you running?
« on: January 17, 2014, 05:01:43 AM »
Hello. I would like to discuss chip folders.

In 1 I run G. Lots of Guts Shoot. It's the best thing in that quaint game IMO.

I forgot what I ran in 2. I either had my battery die and restarted or picked up a new copy, because I just got past QuickMan.EXE. I remember the Fan Wind whatever Program Advance being insanely broken in that, though, from memory of playing with my friend.

In 3 White (the only game I've ever completed by gettting all 7 stars), I run Y Life Swords, Area Steals, Panel Grabs, Poison Pharaoh, Serenade with Atk+30 & Navi+40, a regular Grass Stage (I'm presently WoodGuts [gotta grab the rest of the Guts programs]), a Full Custom (mandatory lol) & a Gaia Blade for no reason whatsoever. I do love me some Balance for multiplayer lol. And it's Y, so it's a perfectly unicoded folder.

In 3 Blue I run L Life Swords (though not quite a full set of each), Step Sword, Panel and Area Grab, Geddon 1 and Ice Stage (I'm AquaCustom with AirShoes in this), Body Guard, Master Style (which is a waste of Mega Chips but hey, [tornado fang] it), and Folder Back (cheap, lame, amateurish, and keep using it to practically force your opponent in multiplayer to bleed all the chips in their folder).

In 4 Red Sun I have a disgustingly multicoded G Pile Driver, R Snake, S Area Grab and Sanctuary, N Geddon 2, the awful V Super Vulcan Red Sun gets, and H for Holy Dream. Mostly based around Guts and Search Styles, either for multihit nonelemental chips or shuffling. with one each of a Wind and a Heal chip just in case I guess. Haven't netbattled with 4 in a long long time.

In 5 Team Colonel I run S Life Swords (because it's the best Program Advance ever of course), Drill Arm 2, Air Hockey, Area Steal, Super Vulcan, a couple of Rock Cubes for putting the Super Vulcan on mein arm, Cross Divide (It's the only Giga I have in this so far), and Dark Invisible (because [tornado fang] you I don't care if Chaos Shadow is cheap eat my [parasitic bomb] lol) based around Shadow Soul, Knight Soul, and, as eluded to before, Colonel Soul and Chaos Shadow.

Aaaaaand... In 6 Cybeast Gregar I'm running S Machine Gun 2 for lots of multihit extra damage (and some White Capsules for definitive damage comboing) and Spreader 3 and Double Shot for that awesome and fun 4 in opponents' HP give them glitches ability with Killer Cross, Life Sword with lots of Wide & Long Swords to throw with Slash Cross (and a couple of Coming Roads to guarantee charge shot hits), SlashMan.EXE SP because you can't not hit them, and TomahawkMan.EXE paired with Area Steal for most likely guaranteed 140 lopped off, and H Big Hook, because that's my only Giga I have so far in this.

Can't find my GameCube so I dunno what I've got in Network Transmission.

Can't wait to try Battle Chip Challenge, besides it being silly, someday.

I wish I could find a ROM translation on cartridge of 4.5.

So, what are y'all's favorite Giga Chips, Program Advances, and all-around strategies for folder construction and netbattling?

Gaming / Beating hard games like they owe you money
« on: January 17, 2014, 04:27:04 AM »
Who here likes retro games for their fantastic difficulty levels? I do.

So last year I beat a few games, like Strider and Bionic Commando, which were very satisfying. More recently I've been hardpressed to either find games I can beat or beat the impossibly hard ones I've tried and tried to beat.

I recently beat Dracula X, though that game isn't really that hard. Mostly I managed to get the best ending by not falling to Stage 4', which always pissed me off to a great extent when I fell.

I haven't yet, but will someday, beat Ninja Gaiden 2, Castlevania, and Sonic 1 & 2. Those Sonic games are rough. I always wind up at Silver Sonic / Robotnik with a bunch of lives and continues, and bleed them all out fast as hell. I made it past when Jacquio revives in Ninja Gaiden 2. Every little bit helps polish my skills for next time. I made it to stage 5 in Castlevania, which is further than I'd ever made it (I just got it a few months ago), but the game froze up as I struck a red skeleton on my 3rd or 4th try at the stage (lol NES).

This is my Amazon games wishlist:
http://amzn.com/w/1I4QMT57G7GA0

Of highest interest to me are Ninja Gaiden 3, Castlevania 3, and Castlevania Bloodlines, as far as new territory is concerned. Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Zelda 2 are rebuys for me for stuff that skipped moves. Actraiser 1 & 2 are games I've never played that I'm waiting to own the physical cartridge so as to have an unmolested authentic experience.

I'm also very much interested in playing Hyperstone Heist. I've never played it, but it's kind of a different animal because it's a game I would never play without a partner.

Chrono Trigger, like the Actraisers, I'm really interested in playing. I want something slightly complex and a little RPG. I beat Chrono Trigger once, but on my friend's cartridge. I need my own copy lol.

Is there such a thing as a strategy guide for Battle Network 1? I can't seem to find one. But that's not exactly on-topic lol.

My only real gripe with X2 and X3 is the clunkiness of the double buster. Drops you from a ladder, makes you stand out of a dash. It's messy. The good thing is that without the Arm Part in X3 the Z-Saber is faster charged than with the Part.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/gba/457634-mega-man-battle-network/faqs/64919 <-- This one was the one I was using.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/gba/457634-mega-man-battle-network/faqs/36193 <-- This one has a bit more info on actual locations.

http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Mega_Man_Battle_Network_viruses <-- This here is extremely inaccurate, as The Mega Man Wiki tends to be. Still somewhat useful.

I'm not at all looking forward to figuring out where to find chips in 4. I think you can only get low-level chips on one of the first few playthroughs. I just finished my third playthrough.

Hunting chips without Collect is tedious work. 2's gonna be more of the same. Thank God for Navi Customizers.

Hello everybody. I've meandered back to RPM, the time-tested family approved best Mega Man website on the Internet. How has everyone been? It's nice to see familiar faces still here. Has anyone seen Alex? He's not on AIM, but I can't blame him. Who is anymore?

I don't know if this thread is too old for me to be posting in it (the entire section of the forum is dead, so it's hard to gauge), but this is really interesting. I was aware of course of the crates, mini-boss, and the downgraded red to green guys, but never noticed the other enemy missing from the stage, and never thought that much of it. X3 is a highly underrated game, and thinking about stuff like this makes me like it more.

EXE / Trying to finish my Battle Network games
« on: January 15, 2014, 05:13:44 AM »
The only EXE game I ever beat beat was 3 White, and I've been looking for something to do, so I've decided to run through and complete my libraries. I'm starting on 1, a very good place to start, I thought, but the FAQs on GameFAQs are pretty terribly incomplete. Got as much relevant information as I could from the Chip Location Guide on there, but most of the virus locations simply say ?. So now I'm onto trying to find a virus location guide.

Trying to remember what the good old-school style fan websites are. Rockman Perfect Memories has always been the best place to find release dates, and is especially useful for finding out what was released on what platforms where. Mega Man Network is pretty barebones, being nothing much more than a news site, for which Protodude's Corner is much better IMO. What else is there? I remember there being a site called The Undernet, but haven't been able to track it down. I'm about to check the partner sites on RPM's frontpage and see what I can find there.

God damn do I wish I had more strategy guides. Thank God I have a physical copy of the one for 5.

Anyway, how has everyone been? Do you guys still Mega the Man? I do.

So does anyone have any theories as to what attacks are what buttons? Flame Sword and Slash Claw are aerial A's I guess?

I don't think audio cassette tapes are that much more durable.  Not to mention I believe a CD has more audio quality.
It's all circumstantial. Magnetic tapes destroy themselves, whereas CDs just damage really easily from environmental factors. CDs in cars is the worst.

Explain to me why I would ever want an audio CD. If they weren't so cheap and shelled out a little more dough on cassette production, I would, but I'm not about to buy a fragile CD just to have a skip-tastic soundtrack. Don't I sacrifice quality snagging the audio off of YouTube?

Imagine if it had been a cool set that was current, like imagine if it was as cool a set as Time Spiral

That one card can certainly help fix that. Oh yeah. That one hammer magic card that destroys a monster on impact, regardless of ATK power. Also the Sonic Chick + Ring of Magnetisim combo. Real pain in the ass if you can utilize it.
But that's the thing, I can't figure out if I'm playing it right, but my super nerd friend told me it went like this:
I declare attack
They declare traps or whatevs
I say wait nope Galaxy Eyes and your dude are going out of the game for a man to man talk

Just read up on that dragon. Damn that is a nice effect.
inorite? Find the tin. It's a sweet tin anyway. Slower Targets or WalMarts or whatever similar might still have them.
