Roleplay / A HOENN NEW RPM POKEMON ADVENTURE!
« on: October 30, 2013, 02:04:41 AM »
Slateport City, approximately three years after Mewtwo's trial...

Pyro was still sunbathing atop a parasol on the beach since challengers to the Lavaridge Gym were still few and far between. His Pokemon were all out enjoying the beach as well. Firebrawl the Blaziken was sitting cross-legged underneath the parasol, deep in meditation. Memphis the Empoleon was chasing any pretty lady or 'mon that passed by. Mr. Spook the Gengar clung to the shadows only for his tongue to lash out and snatch an ice cream cone from a tubby Hiker. Jawbreaker the Garchomp was busy eating the concession stand while Socks the Rotom frolicked among the dunes. As for Loki, Pyro's stalwart Zorua, he laid curled up next to his trainer.

It seemed to be another normal day at the packed beaches of the port city under a tremor shook the ground. Everyone teetered and wobbled but it was not enough to make anyone but the most clumsy fall. Then the water pulled back, which usually preceded a tsunami, and the crowds began to panic and stampede inland. All except the eternally ten-year-old boy, who lowered his shades and gawked at the thirty-foot-tall wave.

"Hey Memphis!" he called to his Empoleon, "This rude wave is blocking my sun. Ice Beam it!"

"POL!" Memphis replied before it fired an Ice Beam from its beak. The blast of compressed, frigid air struck the wave and froze it completely. Yes, you heard me, the Emopoleon just flash froze a mile-wide tidal wave.

Pyro hopped off the parasol and stared down the motionless iceberg. He pointed to the south.

"Hey! Isn't that the S.S. Anne?"

Despite the sheer impossibility of it, the iceberg floated off in the direction Pyro pointed in where it would presumably melt in Hoenn's tropical waters. He then returned to his perch on the parasol to lay down.

"Too bad Mewtwo and Quickie couldn't come," he said to an unruffled Firebrawl, "I hope they got the card I sent 'em!"

Firebrawl nodded, "Ken!"

Elsewhere, in the shady foliage of Petalburg Woods some hours, a trio of grunts wearing Robin Hood-styled tunics and caps conversed with their commander.

"You are telling me that after we spent a fortune on R&D for our seismic generator, building it, and placing it on the continental shelf to wipe out Slateport with a tsunami," the commander said in exasperation, "some brat had his Pokemon freeze the wave and told it to take a hike?!"

One of the grunts nervously chuckled, "That's what they say boss."

The commander threw his hands to the trees, "I DON'T BELIEVE THIS!"

Roleplay / RPM-vengers Assemble!
« on: July 24, 2013, 06:53:54 AM »
(The basic premise is that you take the role of any one of Marvel's Avengers and fight evil. As such, I CALL LOKI! I assume this will be on a world parallel to RPM, and one where most of the locations are compressed into one city. Anyway, let us have some fun. 8D)

Everything appeared calm and normal over New RPM City with its countless denizens busting about and legions of pigeons defecating on whatever statue they could find. That is, until the skies turned dark in the square between Vixy's Game Corner and the Sex Shack and an ominous wind blew in. A young fox-morph, no older than ten, appeared above the square in a flash of light. He wore a green leather suit that looked like a cross between renaissance fair and the Matrix as well as a gold helmet with a pair of horns protruding from the forehead. In his hands, he held what should have been a staff (but was really a hockey stick) and the foxboy.

"Come to me son of Jor-El!" he announced, "KNEEL BEFORE...waitasec."

He pulled out a script and quickly skimmed over it. He then nervously chuckled as he tossed the thick wad of paper, "Wrong movie! Behold mortals!"

The foxboy held out his staff-slash-hockey stick to hypnotize some nearby pedestrians, "Dance for the pleasure of your new master!" 8)

Gaming / The Pokemon Generation III Appreciation Thread
« on: April 18, 2010, 07:27:24 PM »
http://bulbanews.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Generation_III:_Criticized_too_often%3F

This article got me to thinking about the Gen III games and how much flak they get from parts of the fandom. Personally, I believe much of it is unwarranted because many of them hated RS for two main reasons. 1) The lack of connectivity with Gens I & II, which is understandable because of the hardware limitations and the revamping of the data structure. 2) The (relative) lack of the old Kanto/Johto Pokemon and the fact that many of the new Hoenn Pokemon were copies of the original Kanto. Yeah, I will be the first to admit that I have little love for Wurmple, Electrike, and so on but I consider Treecko/Torchic/Mudkip the best starters of the series and some like Swellow aren't half bad. The fact that you couldn't go to Kanto (until FrLg) and Johto either were disappointments in themselves but I always had a soft spot for Hoenn.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on Gen III? It's definitely the most underrated generation and as far as I'm concerned: RSE > RBY. Sorry, but the original Gen I graphics are nightmare fuel to me. :o

Seriously. I thought this was a joke when I first heard it on another forum but it looks like we may see that Donald Duck/Hulk team-up no one dreamed about. So what do you guys think? Is this a good thing, or a sign of the apocalypse?

Fan Creations / Pyrex's File Cabinet of Wonderful Tales

Note: I hope you guys have a lot of free time. This story is a long read.

Anyway, I'm sure that many of you are familiar with the Mechanical Maniacs, the premier website related to anything Megaman 3, a collective of eight people who assume the personae of the robot masters from the game and I assume that some of you know it's an offshoot of the Sinister Six (who used the original robot masters), which created an interesting niche in Megaman fandom. I used to have a "team" of my own way back when based on Megaman X4 called The X-Force where the titular characters run around causing mass destruction in the name of fighting Mavericks from 2000 to 2003.

What I submit to you now is an offshoot of an idea I had nearly eight years ago. It's based on the idea of Earth-Prime which is the world our own and Megaman is just a video game character and the "teams" are nothing more than fanfiction written by teenagers with too much free time. That is under Mavericks from the Megaman X universe open a portal to our world in 2001 and decide to conquer it because it's an easier target. However, eight people from the far corners of North America are given mysterious devices known as technomorphers (or T-Morphers for short) that allow them to transform into the X4 bosses.

This story picks up eight years later (in 2009) and the Mavericks disappeared from sight after the X-Force destroyed the portal linking our universe to theirs (and leaving them without reinforcements) and as such the world considers the Maverick threat neutralized. After a long spell of inactivity, and a disastrous stint as "superheroes". the X-Force retire and disband to resume their former lives. However, when someone begins to kill them off one by one, they have to ask if the Maverick threat is truly over and is something far more sinister at play?

So why post this at RPM where no one's even heard of the X-Force? I figure why not? The worst that can happen it that it'll get ignored and buried but it anyone has any questions or critiques. Feel free to shoot them my way.

EDIT: Oh, and by the way, you can find the original X-Force stories here including the original "X-Force: Alternate Universe" but I consider them non-canon because of liberal use of the RETCON CANNON and as for who was on the X-Force, the original profiles a here.

Rockman Series / Musings - What Makes X Different From Rockman?
« on: December 10, 2008, 08:04:12 PM »
It's something that's been on my mind lately; I know that X was designed to "think for himself" and "make his own decisions" from the instruction manual from Rockman X, essentially giving him free will. But from I remember from the original Rockman series, doesn't Rockman have it as well? After giving it some though I theorize that when Dr. Light created the original eight (Rock, Roll, the first six Robot Masters) with a specific purpose in mind with Rock designed to be an assistant (hence the tool using ability), Roll for housekeeping, and so forth. While Light gave them distinct personalities. they were all bound to the three laws of robotics, and thus were "assigned" their function in society/the workplace although one can argue Rock had free will since he volunteered to because a combat-ready robot.

While Rock's "free will" might be an accident, I think Dr. Light designed X specifically to have self-determinate so he can find his own function in society and thus is not bound by the three laws. Given the complexity of X's mind, Dr. Light had perform a "debug" on X's program and make sure there were no irregularities which took an exceedingly long time (forty years, if I recall correctly). So when Dr. Cain copied X's schematics he probably didn't account for any potential irregularities, hence why we have Irregulars/Mavericks.

Does anyone have anything else to add? Any criticisms/nitpicks?
