Title: "I Love You!" "I Know." R.I.P. Irvin Kershner, 87

Director and filmmaker Irvin Kershner has passed away at age 87.  He is most fondly remembered as the director of Empire Strikes Back and gave us the most romantic exchange of dialogue when he told Harrison Ford to just wing it.  On the advent of the 30th anniversary of ESB, this will no doubt hit many Star Wars fans hard.  The man was a genius, he will be missed.  Cinema has lost a legend in his own right.

Here's to you, Irvin Kershner.  May the Force be with you, always.

What's so interesting about that specific scene is that in a talk with Harrison Ford recently, Ford said how both he & Kershner had to fight Lucas to actually include that dialog in the movie, cause Lucas didn't think it was romantic. This, THIS is why The Empire Strikes Back is the best one among the 3 (not even counting the prequels), because Lucas didn't direct it.

He also worked on SeaQuest as well, a show I enjoyed very much. He will DEFINITELY be missed.

Guess it is bad I don't know these people. This guy and the other topic for the other guy. Never good when someone dies though. Unless it relieves them of course.

Rest well, person I don't know.

You don't know Leslie Nielsen?

If I do, not by name. Probably know OF, but then again, I don't know much pop culture. Old or new.

Probably didn't have an impact on my life is why. Who is this Leslie Nielsen? Anything notable that I might recall? (Also, I should inform people readily, I tend not to know Directors or Producers of stuff. I don't pay THAT much attention unless I really like something)

In terms of Sci-Fi, he's famous for Forbidden Planet, a very classic sci-fi movie. However, he's more famous for his comedic roles from being the doctor in Airplane to being Lt. Frank Drebin in the Naked Gun movies! Here's a tribute! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8vtcHGdchE&feature=player_embedded)

As for Irvin Kershner, it's more understandable, as a lot of people who don't know all that much about Star Wars primarily thinks of George Lucas as the director.

OK, I have indeed seen him before. I just didn't watch a lot of movies and/or gotten in touch with a lot of the actors and what have you. I recognize him readily, just not by name. So I end up having a "egg on my face" moment with stuff like this. XD

Well, again. My condolences. We seem to be losing a lot of good people these past two years, especially in the entertainment business. I guess it is a sign of a "end of era" as it were...

At least Kershner lived to see the thirtieth anniversary of the movie he's best known for.  That's gotta be an achievement.

Episode V being my favorite Star Wars movie, it is really sad to see him go aswell. Right after Leslie Nielsen at that. :/
It's just Tuesday and already two influential people have died from the movie industry. This is going to be a sad week for Hollywood.

Hmmm.
Empire Strikes Back, is my favorite too.
I knew since some time ago, that Lucas did not direct that movie, which was obvious... because he's a hack, which the prequel saga confirmed.
It's a shame that mr. Irvin passed away. : < Sad, very sad.

Goodbye, Mr. Kershner.
If ever there will be another Star Wars movie, there will be no possibility that it won't suck now.

Ugh, how come all the good ones go? Rest in peace, good sir. You made the only Star Wars movie that I ever enjoyed come true.

SeaQuest
Oooh, I loved that show too. I remember that I was always doing my best to watch every episode.

SeaQuest was indeed an awesome series.  I loved it, especially Darwin.

I was tempted, earlier today, to dig out all my bounty hunters and line 'em up on the kitchen table ala the infamous scene in ESB as a tribute to Kershner.  Eh, who says I still can't pull out the toys?

He also directed Robocop 2. It wasn't as good as the first Robocop, but it was still okay I think.

I thought Robocop 2 was the best.
