Ninja Theory boss Tameem Antoniades has said that DmC Devil May Cry’s new look for Dante is “all about cool” and that the previous Dante design we’ve come to know and love just “isn’t cool anymore”.

I'm pretty sure that DMC4 Dante was among his cooler incarnations, and one of the cooler videogame protagonists in general.
THat's just me though. Maybe I'm wrong.

Perhaps surprisingly, it was a departure driven by the people at Capcom who birthed the Devil May Cry series.
Jones said when he was first approached by Capcom Japan, he was told that the U.S. offices of Capcom were being given stewardship of the series because the developers wanted a "western-oriented title."
A western-oriented title, eh? Gee, I wonder who would have pushed for that...

I don't see anything wrong about this new Dante. All I care is what's the new thing in gameplay and I hope that it will surpasses Bayonetta.

From what I've read, it seems like we need to blame Capcom and their recent desire to completely [parasitic bomb] up everything. Ninja Theory is just the sacrificial lamb.

seeing as the other games they made were supposed to be action games with a crappy combo system i really doubt they can even barely make a DMC working combat system

Methinks that Inafking is doing this because of the zeitgeist. After all, Americans love things like God Of War-ish action games, Gears Of Wars/Halo-esque first-person shooters and MMOs these days, amirite? 8D
Of course, this isn't the first time that Capcom tries to appeal to Americans (*cough*Megaman1boxart*cough*). -_-

I recall seeing a totally different interview - not so long ago - where some Capcom representative said that the new DmC is set in an alternate universe from the original DMC, a decision sparked by the massive "negative feedback" on the new DmC.
Edit: No luck finding the interview again; but the Devil May Cry wiki has the same claims.

As initial fan reaction to the teaser has been quite negative, Capcom issued a statement clarifying that this game takes place in a different universe, as it is being developed by a different developer from previous titles of the franchise, and will not affect any story elements already established by the classic series.

"Western audiences" is the new cool 'demographic' to cater to now that "casuals" has lost its steam.

Ugh, Inafune has really lost it with me. Capcom and the various games they produce are FINE the way they are. There is no need to "westernize" what WORKS. You LOSE your fan base doing drastic changes, not make more.
God, I hate douche bags like this. It is most definitely the cancer that kills gaming.
