Apparently, scanlation sites have been under mounting legal pressure by a US/Japan anti piracy coalition which has been going around stopping scanlation sites.

Quote
MULTI-NATIONAL MANGA ANTI-PIRACY COALITION FORMED

San Francisco, CA, June 8, 2010 – Today a coalition of Japanese and U.S. publishers announced a coordinated effort to combat a rampant and growing problem of internet piracy plaguing the manga industry. “Scanlation,” as this form of piracy has come to be known, refers to the unauthorized digital scanning and translation of manga material that is subsequently posted to the internet without the consent of copyright holders or their licensees. According to the coalition, the problem has reached a point where “scanlation aggregator” sites now host thousands of pirated titles, earning ad revenue and/or membership dues at creators’ expense while simultaneously undermining foreign licensing opportunities and unlawfully cannibalizing legitimate sales. Worse still, this pirated material is already making its way to smartphones and other wireless devices, like the iPhone and iPad, through apps that exist solely to link to and republish the content of scanlation sites.

Participants in the coalition include the 36 members of Japan’s Digital Comic Association, Square Enix, VIZ Media, TOKYOPOP, Vertical, Inc., the Tuttle-Mori Agency and Yen Press. Working together, the membership of the coalition will actively seek legal remedies to this intellectual property theft against those sites that fail to voluntarily cease their illegal appropriation of this material.

“It is unfortunate that this action has become necessary,” said a spokesperson for the group. “However, to protect the intellectual property rights of our creators and the overall health of our industry, we are left with no other alternative but to take aggressive action. It is our sincere hope that offending sites will take it upon themselves to immediately cease their activities. Where this is not the case, however, we will seek injunctive relief and statutory damages. We will also report offending sites to federal authorities, including the anti-piracy units of the Justice Department, local law enforcement agencies and FBI.”

The coalition stated that it has currently identified thirty sites targeted for action.

IMO, this is bullshit. theres thousands of mangas that arent licensed in the US, and never will be, which is WHY we go to scanlations.
And even if they stomp out manga sites, Ill still be able to torrent manga.

32-year-old Paul "OtaKing" Johnson, a professional
translator in Sheffield, England (who bears no relation to Toshio Okada, the "OtaKing" who co-founded Gainax), released a video on YouTube in February 2009 called "Making a proper Doctor Who anime." The 4-minute video depicts a fight scene evolving from rough drawings into a fully detailed, inked, colored, and dubbed animation, created entirely by Johnson himself.

Between February 9, 2009 and April 5, 2010, Johnson released four videos of scenes and clips from his anime short for a total of 13 minutes of footage (mostly unfinished) and has brought two voice actors onto the project: Northern Ireland's Phillip Sacramento and Japan-based Sachiko Souno.

"It's just an 11 minute fake 'what if' trailer
for a Doctor Who anime if one had been made back in the early '90s," Johnson said. He also noted that his influences are largely '80s and '90s anime, specifying Bubblegum Crisis, Macross, and Project A-Ko." Since he is a self-proclaimed "80s purist," the short features no CG, only hand-drawn frames. As such, Johnson calls the project "fun but massively time-consuming."

The final cut of the short features characters speaking in both English and Japanese; dialogue in each language will also be subtitled in the other, although Johnson clarified that Sacramento and Souno have "only a few lines". The piece is 11 minutes long total and nearly complete, but Johnson indicated that he plans to show it to BBC, who own the copyright to Doctor Who, before any potential release.

Its best watched in HD, BTW.

Roleplay / RPMVania
« on: May 07, 2010, 12:11:43 AM »
Alright Folks! Heres the deal. RPM + Castlevania. ROUND 1. FIGHT!
This doesn't exactly follow any sort of Castlevania time line or story or time in particular, so just toss that goblet, and have at you.
AKA You can be any particular thing you want. heck, you can RP bad guys too. the basic bad guys of the series ARE present of course. whether you want to RP directly AS them, or RP yourself in their role, is up to you. You CAN of course, add yourself to the dark side/good side, even if there is no official "role" in that spot. (eg- CyberBob101 wants to RP as Death's apprentice. If whoever is RPing death doesn't mind, then he can RP the apprentice.)

Savvy?

OK. So far,

Dracula is Afro,
Blackhook is Death, and POSSIBLY Zephyr and/or Malphas.

We could use a Succubus, and POSSIBLY some Vampire chick or summin.
The fertile continent of RPM and its City was always used to weird things. Cyborgs, Catgirls, Space stations, Raving Rabbids in Gundams, over enthusiastic anime store clerks, and other such things.  Vampires in particular were nothing new either, having gone through many schemes by the Dead Apostle Roa, and a visit by a friend of Flame's. However, nothing could prepare them for what happened one dark night.

The moon that night was blood red. A Lunar eclipse. When the eclipse reached its peak, a gigantic castle enshrouded in darkness suddenly fizzled into view on RPM City's outskirts, atop a cliff overlooking the water. As it solidified, Bats flapped about from out of the dark shadows cast by it's towers. Eventually, with a great pulse of dark energy, the Castle was reality.

About an hour later, a small group approached the castle. Flame, along with a few Police robots and RPMians neared the castle. It was unmistakably evil. there could be no mistaking that. If evil was liquid, it would flood the whole city with he amount of evil aura that castle let off. Suddenly, the Drawbridge slammed to the ground with a lard thunk, a few bats flapping out. The black opening looked almost like a mouth, like it would swallow up whomever entered in everlasting darkness.

Flame led his group onwards into the mouth of the castle, intending to find out what they could about it's sudden appearance.

That was 3 days ago. The group never returned. And the night never lifted that morning. As if whoever ran the machinery and clockwork behind the curtain of the heavens had shriveled up and withered away at the force of the gigantic evil amassed within the castle.

Now, RPM City, after staving off various attacks by monsters they had never seen or heard of before, decides to strike back. many a brave RPM warrior has gathered together, in hopes of getting to the core of this mysterious castle, and (being no stranger to videogames) Kick the final bosses ass.

Imagine the castle as something like this.

Anime & Manga / Incarnate = Bleach?
« on: February 25, 2010, 07:18:26 AM »
Some may have heard of a new Manga by Nick Simmons, son of Kiss member Gene Simmons. Its called "Incarnate".

Seems though, that ol Nicky might be ripping off dat Bleach.

http://community.livejournal.com/bleachness/446299.html
http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/02/25/bleach-ripped-off-by-american-comic-artist-nick-simmons/

Some scenes are more than a little similar.

from wikipedia
Quote
Fans are voicing concerns that the contents of his comic book series Incarnate were copied from various other sources. Simmons is accused of plagiarizing character designs, fight scenes, plot segments, dialogue, poses and expressions from both professional and amateur artists, specifically from both published manga and from art communities such as DeviantArt.

Possibly copied material includes popular mangas Bleach, Hellsing, Vampire Hunter D, NANA, Dogs: Bullets & Carnage, Deadman Wonderland, One Piece and online artist Rae

The author has made no statements addressing this plagiarism at this time. However, VIZ Media, the American publisher of the Bleach manga, is currently looking into the matter and has "a team on it". Kubo Tite, the author of Bleach, has made a tweet acknowledging the plagiarism.

Off The Wall / Old Nintendo system sells for $13,105
« on: February 14, 2010, 06:20:21 AM »
Quote
Everyday folk discovering colossally valuable collectors' items amid everyday junk has been the lifeblood of antiques shows for years, but it's not every day you see a real-life gold-in-the-attic tale play out on eBay.

Last week, North Carolina eBay user lace_thongs35 thought she was putting up an everyday, 80s-era Nintendo Entertainment System (together with five games) up on the popular auction site. But less than an hour after the first bid, the price was over $6,000 -- and on Wednesday, when the auction closed, the final selling price topped $13,000.

Why? Not the console itself, but one of the games bundled with it -- a deeply obscure 1987 release called Stadium Events, a highly sought-after collectors' item. But it wasn't even the game itself that was worth the bulk of the money -- it was the original cardboard box, which collectors value at a breathtaking $10,000. Fewer than 10 complete copies of the game are thought to exist, and retro gaming aficionados consider it one of the hardest-to-find NES games ever made.

Bet you're wishing you hadn't let Mom throw out your Nintendo collection now, eh?

Yep. It basically confirms what well, many of us have suspected for a while now. The project of Megaman New Horizon has been dropped, and subsequently, turned into New Horizon, an original Scifi story with nothing to do with Megaman.

Its a pity. I really liked the idea of this game.

Anime & Manga / Yet another Death note school scandal.
« on: December 18, 2009, 08:14:24 AM »

Quote
The  Oklahoma City Friday newspaper reports on Thursday that two students from Andrew Johnson Elementary School are to be disciplined for a notebook that is described as a "'Death Note,' which is in reference to a movie." The notebook has two pages with writing that referred to two other students: "Kill (student's name) by gun shotgunshell in her hand” and “(student's name) shot by a sniper.”

According to the newspaper, the writing had the names of two girls at the school who had recently angered the two students with the notebook. The students with the notebook allegedly admitted at least part of the writing. The principal contacted the police as mandated by school policy, but she intends to handle the disciplining of the students herself.

In the Death Note suspense manga, live-action films, and anime adaptation, a teenager finds a notebook with which he can put people to death by writing their names and the dictated manners of death.

There were at least four previous incidents in the United States where school officials linked "Death Notes" to students being disciplined. One high school senior in Richmond, Virginia was suspended in 2007 over a list of his classmates' names that the school principal linked to Death Note. A middle school student in Hartsville, South Carolina was "removed" from school over a "Death Note" notebook in March of 2008. In Gadsden, Alabama, two sixth-grade students were arrested in the following month for a notebook that allegedly listed their school staff and fellow students in a manner similar to the Death Note anime series. The Kopachuck Middle School in Gig Harbor, Washington expelled one student and disciplined three others in May of 2008 for writing 50 names in their own "Death Note" book. However, a Washington state librarians' group nominated the manga for a young adults' book award.

Death Note has been the subject of scrutiny by schools in other countries as well. School officials in the Chinese city of Shenyang banned the manga and replicas of the Death Note notebook in 2005, and the educational bureau in Taiwan's Pingtung County warned parents about the manga in 2007. On the other hand, the manga's Taiwanese publisher and a non-profit Taiwanese watchdog group supported the work for raising issues. Two messages left in a Belgian crime scene have been associated with Death Note, but police in that 2007 case have yet to identify a suspect or any further link to the manga. Within the past year, teachers found a "Death Note," specifying how students and staff members would die, in the bag of an eighth-grade boy in southwestern Sydney.

Anime & Manga / Lucky Star, Gigantor Made Honorary Residents of Hometowns
« on: November 25, 2009, 08:50:24 AM »
Quote
Satte, a city north of Tokyo, has announced on Tuesday that it is registering the family of the Lucky Star character Konata Izumi as residents. Lucky Star manga creator Kagami Yoshimizu — who came from Satte himself — is drawing a special certificate of residency for the fictional family, and the registration will take place on January 3 during the traditional New Year's holidays.

The high school senior Konata, her father Sōjirō, her mother Kanata, and her high school freshman cousin Yutaka Kobayakawa will be formally registered in the same city they live in the manga. The city will then offer copies of the certificate for sale.

Yoshimizu lived in Satte until last year, and the Satte City Chamber of Commerce and Industry renovated his former home after he moved out. The home has since reopened this past March as the "birthplace" of Lucky Star. The "Kimagure Studio Yoshimizu Kagami Gallery Satte" ("Whimsical Studio Kagami Yoshimizu Gallery Satte") now features a recreation of the Izumi family's fictional home. Yoshimizu's former address — Satte City Kita 3-14-18 — will be listed on the Izumi family's certificate of residency.

During the first three days of 2009, an estimated 300,000 visitors came to the Washinomiya Shrine, the Tokyo area's oldest shrine and a real-life backdrop for the Lucky Star anime. Otaku have been flocking to this shrine since the 2007 anime featured Kagami and Tsukasa Hiiragi — twin sister characters who supposedly work at the shrine as miko (shrine maidens). Satte is just east of Washinomiya.

In a separate development, Kobe Mayor Tatsuo Yada announced on Thursday that the city will issue a special certificate of residency to the "life-size" statue of the Tetsujin 28-gō (Ironman No. 28 or Gigantor) manga and anime robot. The certificate ceremony will take place at the statue on November 28.

The 18-meter-tall (59-foot-tall) statue was erected in Kobe to symbolize the city's revival after its 1995 earthquake and to celebrate the birthplace of Mitsuteru Yokoyama. Yokoyama not only created the Tetsujin 28 manga, anime, and live-action film, but also Giant Robo and Sally the Witch. The city reports that 500,000 have visited the neighborhood with the statue since it opened on October 4. 5,000 sheets of limited-edition Kobe Tetsujin Project stamps will be sold starting on November 27.

Wow. Just wow Japan.
Not like its THAT out of the ordinary though.

England actually has the home of Sherlock Holmes, (I think its actually like a walk in exhibit thing)

And in Manhattan, although someone lives there, Peter Parker's apartment.

But this is still pretty cool.

ZX / ZX Cameos
« on: November 22, 2009, 12:55:42 AM »
Since we dont seem to have a thread bout this, I figured we might as well, since there are so many.
ZX and ZXA both have quite a big amount of cameos from Classic all the way to the Zero series, so il just leave this list here. Anyone fins more, ill add em'.

In Mega Man ZX:

1. Images and/or cutscene images of Ciel, Zero, and the resistance can be found in Prairie's room, along with Allouette's old clothes. Her room is also filled with cyber elf plushies.

2. Prairie's stuffed animal is the same one that she (Allouette) has had since Zero 1.

3. Hyleg Ourobuckle from Mega Man Zero 2 is sticking slightly out of a tree in Area A-2 (Forest) in the Giga Aspis boss fight section. Apparently, some of the snake platform is embedded in the trees as well.

4. A Pantheon is looming out of the underground area's background in Area C-1 (City).

5. An E-Tank is just sitting on a crate in the same background. Coincidentally, in the game, you can purchase E tanks from Cedre in the engine room, and obtain W cans by hiting the doll in Prairies room.

6. The Crane Game section at the Amusement Park (Area H-2) has stuffed dolls of various Cyber Elves, 4 guardians, a few bosses such as the pantheon core as well as Mayl and viruses from the Battle Network series. Characters can be seen as the cranes pick them out of the piles, in the piles themselves, and even in the background.

7. The Rush Roadster and Red Striker cars from Battle & Chase are in the city. Also interesting to note is the fact that the two boys who own the cars are wearing clothes astoundingly similar to Nintendo's Mario and Luigi. Is this a possible Mario Kart reference as well?

8. Aztec Falcon is apparently in the background along with the carousel in Area H.

9. The vending machines scattered throughout the city are designed like big E-Tanks.

10. Monitors in several areas of the city show the words "News Capcom." Capcom, of course, is obviously the gaming company, and could possibly be a reference to the "Capcom Times" newspaper from Mega Man 6 and 7.

11. Childre Inarabita from Mega Man Zero 3 hanging upside down in Area F-3 (Lake).

12. Area D (Highway) is astoundingly similar to the highway intro stage in X1, right down to the crumbling platforms and the fly helicopters braking the highway as they fall (Beecopters in X1). The music that plays is also a re arrange of the intro highway music.

13. The core of the Guardian Base is the same energy design that Ciel was working on in the Zero series.

14. The operators in the Guardian Base's command room look similar to the operators in the Zero series.

15. The theme that plays when Model W awakens is a re arranged version of "Fate" the theme of Dr. Weil. In fact, the beggining part loops for the Boss entrances, so as to not continue onto the melody itself. "Babel Tower" is also a re arrange of Fate.

16. In the city area, you can pick up bread from a lady's who's grandfather learned how to bake bread from an old Reploid (Old man Andrew from the MMZ series)

17. the reporter on the roof of the building in the city area says he want to be like the "famous journalist from the wars" which is a reference to Neige from Zero 4, although in the localization, the reporter is referred to as a "He" whereas in the Japanese version, im not sure, but I think they dont specify gender.

18. Vent resembles Megaman triger from the Legends series. this could be simply coincidence, but there are also instances of the stitch mouths and the single red eye design appearing on places such as Model W cores, and on Serpents Final form. So it can be said it was possibly done to show that the Legends series is indeed the future of the Megaman timeline, and not a separate universe.

19. Fleuve bears a striking resemblance to Perroquiet from the Zero series.

20. Omega Zero from Zero 3 can be found and fought in area N-1 following area M. The black hole background also has a flickering transparent image of the room Omega was originally fought in. (abandoned Lab with Fusion Omega debris) After defeating him, you can find a "Mysterious Stone" biometal, which upon beating the game, Fleuve allows you to use Model Ox, whose appearance is an exact duplicate of Omega Zero, and uses Ground pound moves from the X series. ( The ones from X2, X4, and X6).

21. By putting either Zero 3 or 4 in te GBA slot in the DS, you can fight their bosses in area N, as an alternate way of earning model Ox.

22. In the above mentioned rematches, for the Z3 bosses, (the Eight Gentle Judges,) while using HX you can see their humanoid forms on the Livemetal screen.

23. Each LM combo has a charge shot similar to an attack in X1, HX charge + ^ is Storm Tornado, FX has charged Fire Wave, LX has charged shotgun Ice and PX charge + ^ has charged Rolling Shield.

24. In Flammole's Area, as a mid boss, you have to fight the Lavadevil, which is an obvious Devil series reference (1, 3, X5, Z1, Z2 etc.)

25. The Data servers in Protectos' boss room are the same kind that Ganesheriff's body was made of in Zero 1.

Mega Man ZX Advent:

1. Wire Sponge from Mega Man X2 can be partially seen in the background near the bottom of the Tower of Verdure. Rospark, the boss of this area, also has a similar move set to Wire Sponge.

2. In the Floating Ruins area, there is a side quest in which you find "artifacts." The artifacts are named Light Bulb, Pinwheel, L Tank, and Balancer.

The Light Bulb is shaped like the energy recovery item from Mega Man 1.

The Pinwheel is the Yashichi item found in many Capcom games. It notably appeared in Mega Man 1, in which it was only found in the final level and restored all life and weapon energy once obtained.

The Balancer is the Energy Balancer found in every Classic Series Mega Man game since Mega Man 6. It's function is to automatically refill the weapon with the least amount of energy if Mega Man obtains Weapon Energy while not using a special weapon. This feature has been automatic for the X and ZX series, which is referenced by girl you give the Balancer to.

The L Tank is essentially an upgraded E Tank from Mega Man 5. Also, you can purchase E tanks from Nick.

3. The Utoboros from Launch Octopus's stage in Mega Man X1 can be found in the Oil Field (which is hinted to be the same area dried-out over the centuries). This Mechaniloid is later added to the display shelf at the Hunter complex.

4. The Model Train is the train from Zero 2 (and apparently Zero 1).

5. The Comic Book Secret Disk references Rockman & Forte 2: Challenger from the Future.

6. The Model a (ancient) mini game is done in the style of the NES Mega Man games. Spoiler: The final fight with Albert is in a ship remarkably similar to Dr. Wily's UFO from Mega Man 4 and up. When defeated, Albert does Wily's "bow for forgiveness."

7. The "Legendary Hero" Secret Disk shows a picture of Mega Man from the notorious United States box art of Mega Man 1. The description humorously mocks this art style, explaining that "These Legendary Heroes look more like coalminers in colorful outfits."

8. Queenbee has a move list similar to every other bee-themed Mega Man boss, such as Blast Hornet and Hornet Man. Since Advent came out before Mega Man 9, it is possible that Queenbee is alluding directly to Blast Hornet.

9. Model Z seems to self sacrifice himself. It is possible that this is alluding to the several times Zero has risked himself for the sake of others, such as X1 and 5.

10. Model A is obviously based on Axl, even though the "A" in question stands for "Albert."

11. Buckfire might be a vague Flame Stag reference, as they are both fire-deer bosses.

13. The flying beetles in the Legion HQ area are remarkably similar to the flying beetles in X2, which could be ridden on to get to higher places.

14. The Crushpactor in the Quarry area functions like the bulldozing enemies in Armored Armadillo's stage in X1.

15. Bifrost may be a vague reference to Wheel Gator from X2, as he is reptilian and has a buzz-saw wheel that operates similarly to Wheel Gator's weapon.

16. The Sage Trinity are named after the three doctors of the Classic Series. Thomas Light, Mikhail Cossack, and Albert Wily. Albert's actions mirror his namesake, as Albert is the mastermind behind the "Game of Destiny."

17. In the Legion area, there are several platforms which can be ridden and can damage enemies. These look similar to the carts in Armored Armadillo's stage and function in the same way.

18. The Mechanical Tree Miniboss in the Waterfall Ruins is similar to Wood Man from Megaman 2. It uses leaf attacks similar to him.

19. After defeating Atlas, you have to smash a wall made of what the raider describes as being Ceratanium,  The the same material used in Megaman Zero 4 to make chips.

20. During the obtain the plant for the room mini mission, one of the plants you can choose is the snip snip plant from Z4.

21. The secret model obtained by collecting all the medals, Model @, is based on the NES Megaman 8 bit sprite design, and like the original 3 games, cannot fire charge shots, and slides instead of dashes.

Call me malicious, But I wish they'd just go down already.

Also, seems Nickelodeon has acquired the rights to the Ninja Turtles from them. (thank god.)
Now, if only Funimation could acquire the rights to Yugioh...

Anime & Manga / Crayon Shin-chan Manga to Continue until February
« on: November 08, 2009, 10:30:35 AM »
The December issue of Futabasha's Monthly Manga Town magazine has announced on Thursday that the magazine will continue running new installments of the late Yoshito Usui's Crayon Shin-chan comedy manga until the March issue, which will ship on February 5, 2010. Authorities determined that Usui died from injuries sustained from a fall at Arafune mountain on September 11.

The magazine had planned to end Crayon Shin-chan this month with the last of two installments that Usui had submitted before his passing. However, several new manuscript pages were discovered, so the magazine's editorial department decided to extend the manga's run by three months.

Anime & Manga / Ghost in the Shell: SAC to Spawn 2 New Manga in Japan
« on: November 08, 2009, 10:30:28 AM »
Kodansha has confirmed that it will launch two new manga based on the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex television anime series in December. The anime itself is based on Masamune Shirow's original Ghost in the Shell cyber-police manga. (Shirow's original manga also inspired Mamoru Oshii and Production I.G's two anime films.)

The first of the upcoming manga, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Tachikoma na Hibi, will launch in the January issue of Kodansha's Monthly Young Magazine on December 9. Masayuki Yamamoto is drawing this all-new manga based on Production I.G's 2002 video anime series of the same name. This spinoff series of bonus anime shorts recounted the tongue-in-cheek stories of the Tachikoma AI tanks from the main Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex anime.

The second manga, simply titled Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, will launch in the 2009.02 issue of Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine on December 14. Yu Kinutani, the creator of the Amon and Shion manga and the artist of the Steamboy, Leviathan, and Pairon manga, will draw this manga version.

Kodansha USA Publishing head Yoshio Irie had revealed in a Publishers Weekly interview last month that his company is planning to release "a new manga version of the TV anime series, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex." Kodansha USA already started republishing Oshii's original Ghost in the Shell manga this fall. Hobby Japan's Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Visual Book and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG Visual Book (2006) included short anthologies of original four-panel gag manga by Eiichirō Mashin (Himuro no Tenchi Fate/school life), Ranma Kusumi (Moon Tarte), Kōji Sugitani (Settoin! Deitappu!!), and others. Dreamworks had licensed the rights from Kodansha to make a proposed 3D live-action film last year. Dreamworks hired Shutter Island writer and executive producer Laeta Kalogridis to adapt the manga.

The same January issue of Monthly Young Magazine with the Tachikoma na Hibi manga is also the magazine's debut issue under its new name; it was previously a bimonthly magazine called Bessatsu Young Magazine. The issue will feature Yuzo Takada's new side story of his well-known 3x3 Eyes manga and Kōji Matsumoto's special 36-page Higanjima side story to tie into this year's live-action film adaptation.

X / Maverick Hunter X6. Nightmare System
« on: November 05, 2009, 07:21:58 AM »
Now, before anyone starts with it- We all know this will never happen.
HOWEVER, originally the MHX series was intended to remake the series up to 6.

So, X6 and the Nightmare System. From what we already know based on interviews and such, it was originally planned to ACTUALLY randomize stage layouts and actually do something more than minor annoyances in stages such as fireballs, acid rain and blinds.

So, in the what if scenario that we got a MHX6, what do you thing would, should and could be done about the half assed nightmare system that the original had? The closest that it had to the original concept is Wolfangs stage, where depending on the nightmare, an additional path opens up to stranded reploids, an EX tank, and the Nightmare Zero/Highmax/Dynamo level.

So, would they keep it the same, try to change it to what they originally wanted, or something else?
Or what SHOULD they do?

Discuss.

Anime & Manga / Japanese university plans huge manga library
« on: October 23, 2009, 07:05:29 PM »
Quote
TOKYO (AFP) – In a move to promote serious study of Japanese manga, a university in Tokyo plans to open a library with two million comic books, animation drawings, video games and other cartoon industry artifacts.

Tentatively named the Tokyo International Manga Library, it would open by early 2015 on the campus of the private Meiji University, and be available to researchers and fans from Japan and abroad.

"Manga has been taken lightly in the past and there has been no solid archive for serious study," said Susumi Shibao, a library official at the university told AFP by telephone.

"We want to help academic studies on manga as part of Japanese culture."

To give an early taste of its collection, the university will open the Yoshihiro Yonezawa Memorial Library of Manga and Subculture this October 31, featuring the late manga critic's collection of 140,000 comic books.

Some of the books date back to before World War II.

Japan, which grew rich on exporting cars and high-tech goods, has stepped up an official campaign to promote its cultural offerings, from Tokyo city wear to video games and award-winning animation films.

Japanese manga, ranging from classic Astro Boy and the Doraemon robot cat to the latest smash hit Naruto, a tale of a ninja boy, has charmed children and adults worldwide.

The former conservative government of Taro Aso, which was ousted in August elections, had earmarked 11.7 billion yen (128 million dollars) for a museum on Japanese cartoon art and pop culture to be built in Tokyo.

But the plan, part of wider stimulus measures, was axed by the new centre-left government, which criticised the construction as a "state-run manga cafe" that has nothing to do with boosting the economy.
