This was very nice! Well done!
thanks! good to hear you enjoyed it

YAY SINGING

D'awww that was cute if way too mushy

The singing...isn't bad? I mean you can hold a note and the timing is fine. The style is definitely strange, but it works since it's supposed to be sung by a young boy. In fact I think you could've made it sound even younger by having less vibrato and more expression~
One thing though, I think the song was a bit too high for you. The higher parts sound a bit strained and unnatural whilst the (albiet pitched up) lower notes sounded a lot like a little boy singing...pretty awesome actually. Kids don't have falsetto (sorta) so that was weird.

Oh and the song was berry nice but to long for me =w=b
oddly enough, i don't think i'm even capable of falsetto...i haven't been able to do it for years, and every time i try, it just ends up coming out as a whisper-like sound. it's supposed to be effortless, right? perhaps i have damaged vocal cords...matter if fact, i did yell a lot as a kid. :^/

anyway, yeah, i did strain a little singing this. my control of the upper register is pretty shaky, so i probably shouldn't be singing little boys' songs in the first place! thanks for the input.

it's been a while since i updated this thread. just wanted to drop by to say that i fulfilled my promise and actually sang something!

it's a completely original song. the vocals aren't all natural, though, since the pitch was raised by 2 semitones.

yeah, the singing isn't all that good, but hey, i never claimed to have any singing talent! :^)

who doesn't love the non-existence of actually constructive criticisms here

i am officially leaving this place already

That's right 4 opuses for you guys to enjoy

It's not like you were really asking for C&C in the first place. If you're looking for more professional critique, there are many other forums out there for you that specialize in music analysis.

I can't give you a "proper" critique because I was never educated in music theory, but I don't know why I should even bother given your rotten attitude.

Have you ever considered working with sampled music? Your stuff is always grand; it'd be interesting to hear you do something with more realistic sounding instruments.

Aww but hun~ everyone hates the sound of their own voice. But I've learnt that if others like your voice then all's right with the world ='D

I like your voice =O Personally~

I wanna hear Kevvviiinnn sing! >w<

It's settled then: looks like I'll have to try my hand at singing some time. Thanks for the self-esteem boost!  XD

Not sure if it's worth an update, but I did make new versions of "Sadness 5" and "Boss Battle 1" with improved mixing...well, I'd like to think it's improved, but my knowledge of audio mixing is rudimentary at best. Definitely gotta learn how to mix if I'm gonna get by in the music world, heh.

Man, I really want to fight boss with that kind of song, its high pace give the sense of imminent danger.

Very old school, reminds me of Nobuo Uematsu a lot.

Basically, lovely and awesome!

Thanks; I'm a huge Uematsu fan, so that definitely had something to do with it.

@The Boy Nabs a Broad...sword: I liked it! It had a very traditional: 'starting out on an adventure' feel.
Did you seriously giggle like a little girl
Tbh I think the voiceovers distracted from the music a bit because of the huge reverb (which also muffled the clarity, and it was hard to understand until I saw the text version).
But I like the idea of having voiceovers. It's a bit like a radio drama where the music helps playing the part of the narrator.
You're pretty good with voices too xD

@Town 10: I could listen to that all day~~ It sorta reminds me of the lazy Pokemon town themes in its simple catchy way that somehow gets stuck in your head without you noticing as you walk around town humming it.

@Boss Battle 1: Love the opening. I think openings are really important in boss themes, because that's where you pay the most attention to the music. The rest of the song does well to keep the heart-pumping excitement up. It does actually remind me of Uematsu's early themes, right down to the low quality samples but hm, catchier.

Keep on composing >w<b

Heh, thanks! I think you're right about the voices. I actually can't stand the sound of my own voice, so I just pour tons of reverb over the voiceovers to make them a little more bearable. I'll take note of your advice and cut down on the reverb or remove it completely for my future songs, which may or may not involve singing....

Where's the Kevvviiinnn mix? Huh? Where is it?

But no seriously, good job on those tunes bro.

HERE YOU GO RAD: aroobanooba

On a related note, Camel's got some of the catchiest prog I've ever heard.  8B

Thanks for the feedback, guys!

I really gotta get to listening to these. Think you could compile the links into a single post so it's a little more organized? I have no problem going page by page, but it could be a lot more convenient.

Glad you guys enjoy it! I'll post the song titles/composers later this week.

On a side note, here's some new stuff to check out:

The voiceovers may be a little cheesy. Not sure if I want to keep doing them for newer songs in the series. What do you guys think?

Thanks for all the feedback, guys! It really means a lot to me.

i gotta say, you are an inspiration for many people to track songs in 8-bit style.

speaking so, what is more fun and easy to use to you, Famitracker, Chiptunes or FL studio with samples?.
They're all fun to use, but I'm most comfortable with FL. Third-party VSTs like Chipsounds are manageable, but samples are the most convenient for me.

Uwah, your music is really awesome! =D I really liked Chiptune the Stars, Area 1, and Solitude 2~ I wasn't really a fan of your MMX style tunes though, I'm not too sure why...I mean, it's not that I don't like the tunes or anything, but somehow the track doesn't seem to draw me in...? Dunno orz
I showed my friend and he said he was surprised that no one's taken all of your music and made a game out of it yet...I think that's meant to be an awesome compliment :>
That's funny, 'cause it's usually the other way around. I'm really glad to see appreciation for my non-Mega Man works.
Tell your friend he has my thanks!

I guess I could update this thread with some of my original, unreleased Music Lobby (DropBox folder) stuff. Check 'em out! B^)

Now do a chiptune cover of Arubaluba.
I've always wanted to cover something by Camel. One of the first songs I tried to cover was "Nimrodel" purely because of that mad keyboard solo. I ended up scrapping it due to lack of patience, though. Perhaps I'll do a chiptune cover in the future!

all the 2A03ish songs definitely sound nothing like Mega Man

I shall uncover the path towards your over-praised position over Youtube for at least the Mega Man ones that is
How do you mean? Each individual Classic series game has it's own distinctive musical style. Are you saying my work sounds un-Mega Man-ish because I'm not mimicking one of the composers' styles or because you simply can't see these songs fitting in the Classic universe?

Listening to what you're composing, I feel ashamed of the crap I make in FL Studio.
I especially like that Castle Song.
Keep at it dawg.

Also, you've kinda motivated me to try and make something "good" in FL Studio again... thanks. : >
That's great to hear! Glad you enjoy my work. I'd love to listen to some music you've made.

Hey, guys! I suppose I should start my own thread here to showcase some of my musical endeavors. I've been composing music for about two years now, and it's been a very rewarding journey thus far. I'm pretty much an autodidact, but I will gladly accept any help others will offer me. I'd love to get some feedback on some of my compositions--particularly my RPG ones, as that's the genre I'm not very experienced at writing. Feel free to browse some of my more recent work, arranged by genre in no particular order. I appreciate any help I can find, so don't hold back on your comments!

haha, don't worry about it guys, i like helping you out :)

if anything, you should be upset with me not having it done by now

i'll start it up now i guess

Nah, we're not really in the right to be upset with you, Mex. After all, you're doing this in your free time.

And if you ever decide that you don't want to do it, I can always put my FamiTracker skills to the test. :^)

I'm pretty darn eager to see an update to this game! It's looking great so far. I hope you've found enough inspiration to continue working on it, kuja. I'd gladly compose more tracks if you're ever in need of them...although, I feel kind of bad having Mex remake the songs for me in FT. It was nice of him to accept, but I don't like to load work on other people; I think Mex has better things to do with his time than tediously echoing 8-bit sounds to form what is essentially a reflection of the original. That's one downside to making NES music in FL Studio--its exports aren't compatible with with NES emulators and NSF players. Mex has also been hard at work retracking my songs in Mega Man Time Tangent. I ought to learn FamiTracker myself so I don't have to rely on others to transcribe my music. Just thought I'd let you know that I'm really grateful for all of it, Mex. You're a pretty awesome guy.

Anyway, keep up the brilliant work, kuja and co.! Sorry for my rambling. I wanted to give Mex the thanks he deserves.
