Title: Inafune & Ariga: Grilled By The Fans
Post by: Jericho on December 16, 2009, 04:21:59 AM
On the heels of a very special webcast event for the Rockman fandom (http://www.capcom-unity.com/jgonzo/blog/2009/12/07/mega_man_turns_22_soon), series veteran designer Keiji Inafune & Rockman Megamix artist Hitoshi Ariga are having an interview tomorrow for the greater majority of their Japanese fans. What's even more interesting is that now, Capcom is currently taking our questions in order to answer them at the planned event tomorrow. (http://www.capcom-unity.com/jgonzo/blog/2009/12/15/got_questions_about_mega_man_ask_inafune-san%21)

So then, ladies and gentlemen, what kinds of interesting questions are on your minds? Also, what ulterior motive could be behind the team up of these two men with a history of working in the series? Discuss!

EDIT: Download an Audio Podcast of the Live Webcast here. (http://www.rockmanpm.com/down/click.php?id=391)

You can now see the Rockman 10 Trailer on the official site (http://www.capcom.co.jp/rockman/10/movie.html), or on RPM's Rockman 10 page (http://www.rockmanpm.com/?p=original/rockman10).

Is this going to be translated at some point, or are us non-japanese speakers just going to hear about the questions second hand?

Thanks Jelly, You're the best.  owob

anyway, I posted My questions.
Quote
Hopefully at least one of these will be answered.

1.) Inafune-san, In Rockman X4, there is the infamous scene where an Irregular Zero fights against a Sigma while he was still good. During the fight, eventually, a "W" appears abruptly upon Zero's helmet gem, and seems to cause him great pain, accompanied by some manner of buzzing. Sigma used this chance to immobilize Zero. The ame thing then happens to Zero before the events of X4, in his dream sequence. What is the exact significance of this? It has been hailed as one of the biggest mysteries in the X series. Could you possibly shed some light on it?

2.)Inafune-san, even though you have put down the Cataclysm theory, there are STILL people who insist that even though Zero didnt kill anyone, that he still fought Rockman.
Could you PLEASE end that once and for all?

3.) Inafne-san, with the popularity of Rockman 9 and 10 in its 8 bit famicom style, there has been fan demand of a 16 bit X9 in its super famicom style. Which has stirred up more controversy than the 8 bit classic series, as many claim that the super famicom style is outdated, was never quite able to display certain characters/things right, and would not be able to follow the story from X8 successfully, ruining what has been built up, leaving it aside in favor of a simpler story easier to tell with the style, since the retro style includes sticking as close to the original limitations as possible.
What are your thoughts on that, and what do you say to those fans? What would your ideal graphical style be for the X series?

4.) Ariga-san, how do you feel about having Udon distribute your Rockman mangas to fans here in the United States? Also, are there any plans of maybe making a manga for Rockman 10 much like the one for Rockman 9?

5.) Ariga-san, How would you feel if you got to design the artwork for a Megaman game? As we all know, you were responsible for the Robot master designs in Rockman & Forte, and you even made the cover art for the Japanese box. But, how would you feel if you were asked to be the one who does the actual in game artwork and overall artistic design?

Suffice to say, If Ariga ever DID get to be the guy to direct the art in the game, Id cream my pants.

Ariga's Rockman designs top the hell out of the other artists doing official work within Capcom guaranteed. Hell, he even one upped Toru Nakayama with his renditions of the four generals. Seeing all of that in game, especially cel-shaded would be an amazing experience.

Wait, I never saw that! he did the big 4?
Though honestly, while he is great, I dont think he should be compared with Sensei in terms of whos better. They are both great at how they do it.

You see, this is the only reason why I hate Ariga (not directly though). I can never find his art on the internet without a massive search through. He did do all four though.

As for your second comment, while I do agree, I must say that I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't pick Ariga over Sensei if given the chance.

Well of course, if only because it would be very cool to see, since hes never actually done so. He did the RM design for RnF, but adhering to classic Megaman style.

They're still up on his site, of course  :P: http://www.ancient.co.jp/~ariga/
Even though he moved to the current blog, his previous site is still up and running. Only problem is, to find them you have to constantly refresh to get a new top image; it's not in a easy to grab gallery format.

I know I have them, I just have to weed through and find them all. Somebody might beat me to them. Here's Levi at least:

But yeah, I remember Phantom and Harpuia were awesome.

And I love how so many of the kids asking questions to Inafune/Ariga don't even bother reading through questions already posted and just repeat the same thing over and over, hoping THEIR name will be the one tacked onto the question that's been asked 20 times. 'Course Turian basically asked the same as mine, and we were just minutes apart, so who am I to judge. XD

You know, this would most likely convince people who have OSS to ask Inufaune "Why is this game like the way it is?".

.. At least it might convince Inufaune to respond to fans.. or if the fans were sneaky enough, get him to see thier fangames.

Post by: Zan on December 16, 2009, 09:37:56 PM
The W headgem is actually one of the most unexplained things in the series.

But, we also still have to get the answer to what Wily is doing during the later X-series games.

I mean, he kinda misunderstood the question last time we asked him. >.>

Maybe just ask him if Wily's "being brought back by the virus" has anything to do with that headache, and if Wily is revived, why he's been absent in recent games.

After seeing Ariga's art, I have to wonder if any fan will be able to emulate his style...*o*

At least it might convince Inufaune to respond to fans.. or if the fans were sneaky enough, get him to see thier fangames.

Now, there's something that I would like to see happen. Seeing what the master thinks of the MM community's fan games (the most professionally-done ones, of course) would be the most fantastic thing to happen. :V

Thanks, saved me the time searching tonight.

His current blog is the first link on his "ancient" site. It's this: http://www3.atword.jp/arigamegamix/

I think his previous blog also had the 'ancient' address, but it's no longer linked. Last I remember, it was also still up, but I've long since deleted it from my bookmarks. He's blogged at this 'atword' address for over a year now. I might have the old blog link still saved on my aunt's computer, though. Maybe I can see it's still there this weekend.

Well the sandstorm looks diabolical already.

Oh, if there's a Superhero Mode, that's going to be a pain.

Otherwise, as long as there are some walls, it's X5 and Xtreme2 again.
Or it could even be "wait for the sandstorm to pass then run like mad" like Super Mario World's crushing sand.

There's gotta be some way around it.

Oooh, E-Capcom girl, indeed.

Q: MML3
A: (Inafune) If ____ produces it, you can get MML3.

Q: If you take MM franchise into new direction, where would it go?
A: (Inafune) 3D has possibilities. Problem is, 2D designs only work in those worlds. Gotta make that fun translate into 3D.
...well just ask Nintendo how that works.

Q: New Mega Man X game?
A: (Inafune) I'd love to make a new Mega Man X game, but I'm incredibly busy. I want to do something new with Mega Man before revisiting. But once I have time, I'll go back to it.

Q: Plans to do a 16-Bit game?
A: (Inafune) 8-Bit is where Mega Man was born, so stretch that all out first.

Q: Any possibility of doing an HD 2D game?
A: (Inafune) Good idea, but as a designer, it would just be imitation.
Now that's honor, man...

Q: Megaman Powered Up 2?
A: (Inafune) Mega Man 2 is popular, there's a strong possibility for it.

But god damn it, those were almost the same exact questions. ones we have ALREADY gotten answers to before. And things that we could tell from common sense. OF COURSE he would like to get back to the X series.

Also, I think the Next Gen fans now can say for sure, Inafune, given the time and money to make it very good, would love to make a new 3D megaman game other than legends.

Title: Re: Inafune & Ariga: Grilled By The Fans
Post by: STM on December 17, 2009, 08:12:46 AM
I don't really see how they can do an X9. Sigma was getting stale, sure, but he was pretty much the main threat. Now they're going to have to spend time building up new villains. No one gave a damn about Lumine and Redips was an utter joke. Short of going to the Elf Wars, the X series hit a proverbial dead end with no Sigma. There's still the Wily angle, true, but that got dropped after X6.

Also, last I checked, the site was megaman.capcom.com/10 or /ten. Neither works right now.

Great event, I didn't expect any real news for it and we got the RR2 hint, really nice. It's a shame that we lost most of the comments from Inafune and Ariga because the way the translation was handled.

Well, this event was purely to show off Mega Man 10, and based on the way they opened it, to reveal it. Sadly, the magazines and the internet beat them to the punch, stealing the thunder from it. It was nice to see the American art books in finished form, but any one expecting other new game announces were getting their hopes set way too high. The chat was just nauseating with all the giant text screaming for X9 this, and another game from another series that. It was almost embarrassing.

Didn't help Flame was there with his giant red text. That got really annoying.

Alright, just finished watching the gameplay vids.

Yeah, those were easier than MM9. Now I'll grant you that some of the enemies look tricky, and that midboss won't be fun, but to die on maneuvering through those stages is weaksauce.

Summary iirc

- Shows Megaman 10 trailer
- Takashita the producer played on Sheep and Commando man stage (and failed miserably even on easy mode, Inafune planned to half his salary XD)
- Showing some fan tribute winners (3rd is stop animation, 2nd is LED statue of 8bit mega, 1st is megaman made from wall of bricks)
- Inafune and Ariga draw signed drawings as prizes for a contest (including megaman 10 coverart T shirt)
- Announcement of MMoCW and Megamix manga in English
- E tank stuff
- Q&A -> Megaman Powered Up 2 high probability is the most important info I guess.
- Oh and some action figures up for sale on capcom website.

That's the gist of it, I might forgot something.

None of the more interesting questions were asked. Just "will such and such megaman game happen?" questions. >__>
The Powered Up question was the most important one, and the only one we got an answer to that we didn't know before. I wish they would have asked about MHX too though.

Yknow, what would be sweet... Is if they made packs of the E-Cans, and sold them in that E-Box. I mean what, maybe 4 of em can fit in there maybe? Maybe 6?

So we get the Vinyl figures, they get the kubricks.
I think ours is better. 8D
But they have Breakman. D:

World Hobby Fair. An event about promoting company mascots. It's situated in different spots in the country. Capcom usually holds EXE and/or Shooting Star activity there, like tournaments and download new data to your games (Burai and Forte to OSS is the latest data). You can also try out a demo of the newest game announced (in this case, Rockman 10). This event is Japan-only and is held on special time of the year (mostly winter and/or summer). >v<; </wii>

Wasnt there something about a Toy fair? Or was that the Hobby fair? my memory is already failing me.
where Cappy could one of these days, do us a favor and pick up one of those amazing Megaman figure makers and sign them on or something, to maybe kinda replace Jazzwares. I mean, their Classic and X lines were good, but once they got to Zero...
Plus some of these guys make better Classic and X series figures than Jazzwares could even hope to match.
