I just got around to playing MM9 last week (getting 46% in my first two playthroughs >.> bah, challenges >.>)
And I immedeatly noticed the awesomeness that is Jewel Satelite, a Shield weapon that can take good damage (like no other), can be fired but can also be carried (like Star Crash).
OH, AND IT [tornado fang]ing REFLECTS SHOTS!!! TAKE THAT MACHINE GUN JOE, MUHAHAHAHA XD
While Leaf Shield was a very effective weapon (for erradicating moles and whatnot) it didn't serve as well as a shield, seeing as you have to stand still with it..Star Crash dissapates with a single hit...as do Plant Barrier, Skull Barrier...
Yeah, I freaking love Jewel Satelite. debate shield weapons here.
-Elpis
-
It's definitely the best shield weapon. Best weapon is still the Metal Blade though.
-
Nah, rolling shield is better since it can last forever providing X doesn't hit something that take more than 1 or 2 shots.
-
This is Classic series...
-

With the Laser Trident coming in very close after. Seriously, that weapon is just [twin slasher].
-
This is Classic series...
although this is in the original series section, he said "shield weapons" but nothing limiting it to the original series.
-
Damn right it is. >>;
-
I liked all the shield weapons, but Jewel Satellite definitely is both awesome and broken at the same time.
-
Regardless, this IS the classic series forum and if you look at my comparing, you'll notice that I listed only classic series weapons :O
But for the hell of it, Rolling shield is about equal (counting only the Charged version, since Rolling Shield uncharged doesn't act like a shield weapon...at ALL) but no...I think Jewel Satelite does better damage...oh and then theres REFLECTING MOTHERF*CKING SHOTS, something wich I haven't seen a shield weapon do to often (Shield Boomerang comes to mind, wich takes 2nd place, even if it impede's movement...wich can be circumvented, but is annoying to do...) I have no idea if Jewel Satelite lasts forever tho, haven't used it enough for that.
So no, rolling shield isn't better, you can't fire it, you can't reflect shots with it.
It does get bonus points in Cyber Mission for making you immune to spikes...
Damn right it is. >>;

Try mixing that with the Rolling Shield, you'd get a badass defensive weapon. (though I liked Skull Sheild)
-
Has there ever been a shield weapon that could be used on the final boss? I don't remember any besides Rolling Shield.
-
I think Leaf Shield, since it has a little more range at times.
-
Shield Boomerang
what?
-
Now that I think about it, If I take elemental chips and EX skills into account, the Shield Boomerang (defense weapon in Zero1~3, uhr) would be the best shield weapon...but that seems a bit unfair, seeing as the EX skills are the "weapons" of the Zero series.
I think Leaf Shield, since it has a little more range at times.
Leaf shield does dick against Wily. as do all other weapons besides bubble lead (iirc).
Has there ever been a shield weapon that could be used on the final boss? I don't remember any besides Rolling Shield.
I honestly don't know, perhaps Star Crash (tho that should be empty from use against the Wily Press)
Also, using the charged Rolling Shield against Sigma is...unpractical? I have to try it, but you would have to activate it as you jump of Sigma's claw, since that cancels CRS, *shrugs* oh and then again, there is the shield boomerang, OH so useful against SeraphX on Hard, reasonably useful against Elpis and Omega...yeah Rolling Shield doesn't have squat on it.
-Elpis
-
Other weapons heals Alien Wily, so only Bubble Lead works.
-
Jewel Satellite is fah-king secksy.
-
Broken, in fact. Maybe it should have a time limit, and fall off after some 10 seconds or so... currently you can farm infinite extra lives by standing under one of those whatsit-spawning pipes. Not to mention completely filling up on WE (with autobalancer), which is very handy for wily stages.

Broken = Awesome

Broken = Awesome
This same philosophy also applies to MM3 Rush Jet and Storm Tornado! 8)
-
Jewel Satellite, [tornado fang] yeah!/Team America
-
It's awesome because it's broken! MM9 is like a big Rock-n-Roll shout out to Metal Blade haters. Half the game's weapons are overly powerful, and still the game is balanced as ever.
Good ol' Marvel vs Capcom 2 way! If everything's broken, then nothing is. :D
-
That's the kind of broken that I love.
Thanks to that, Rockman 9 is very high on my top lists already.
-

Because they're energy guzzlers like in 2?
This is Classic series...
Don't you know that X and Mega are the same person because they're both blue?

They call him the Blue Bomber because... he's blue! Blue blue blue blue blue blue! (http://video.rockmanpm.com/random/Blue%20Bomber%20(U)%20Long%20Version.avi)

In before "if he was green he would die..."
-
Hey, has anyone else noticed how the Jewel Satellite rotates much more smoothly than all the other shields in the NES games? What's up with that?
-
because its not an NES game. its a Wii game with NES graphics.
-
The only thing I don't like about Jewel Satellite is that it goes away when the screen transition, so it's uses are somewhat limited in that it's only good against Uzi Joes and Spark Man/'s stage, as far as supremely awesome goes.
-
TOP SPIN IS THE SHNITZEL YO. IT TAKES OUT WILY IN ONE HIT.
-
Like they always say...
Jewels are a robot's best friend... 8D
Seriously though, anyone tried Jewel Satellite on Splash Woman? -_-
-

Well, as long as you aim it right...
-
I took Wily out in MM5 with Beat. It was awesome. 2 or 3 hits each time he reappears. Still, to the debate earlier about this wasn't limited to the classic weapons. I think it is, since this is the classic board, right?
-

Except that that's not the lyrics to that song. It's "da ba dee, da ba dai". Not words. In fact, on the back cover of the CD box, the song title is even listed as "Blue (Da Ba Dee)"
And yes, I actually own that CD. :D
-
Aw, somebody told me that they actually sing "If I were green, I would die" at the very end of the song.
-
Well, as long as you aim it right...
not exactly that hard to.
-
Shield weapons are among my favorites in the MM games. I liked the Leaf Shield but when you moved, it zoomed off in whatever direction you pointed in. They more or less improved the shields with each game, the exception being the Star Crash, but it did make Crystal Man's stage less infuriating so I gotta give it props for that. Since I haven't played MM9 yet, I can't comment on the Jewel Satelite but it sounds like it's fabulous.
-
Being able to walk and jump around with a shield that NEVER disappears unless you give command to do that with a button or walk to the next area of a stage, plus killing every enemy that dies with at least 1 or 2 hits IS very fabulous~ ^^
-
I like it's sound and how Sniper Joes and 9000 other enemies are harmless against it. Also, why is it a satellite? Because the jewels rotate?
-
Satellite = anything in orbit around an object
The jewels orbit Megaman
So yes. Sorta.
-

But wasn't Star Crash the first shield you could walk around with but also fire off? (Although you could jump with the Leaf Shield and not lose it.)
-
Actually, I think the Skull Barrier was the first shield you could walk around with.
-
I think he means the first one to do both; walking around with it and firing it off.
Then again, you can do both already in RM1. (See Fire Storm)
-
Well...The Junk Shield is second shield with which you can run and shoot..
-
Not being able to choose what direction you want to throw the Jewel Satellite is my only complaint, although admittedly there aren't too many places one would really need to do that in the game.
And also I guess, that I feel like an idiot when I miss Plug Man with it, since there's only enough energy for the exact right amount of hits. Usually happens when I'm not paying much attention, and I wind up having to scramble for some other weapon. And of course that it won't repel Wily's attacks, but that would be making things too unfair I suppose. I'm not really complaining about these things, just reminiscing.
Otherwise, J. Satellite is golden.

Timing is also important.
If you use it too quickly after one hit, you will waste one Satellite because of Plug Man's temporary invulnerability. o.o

...Invicibility after Hit?...well in mm9 it s shorter..in MM&F 2 had not invicibility
offtop.My English is bad,because i m Russian,From Lithuania
-
Shorter yes, but you still have to use satellite with exact timing.
Not too fast, or you will lose a satellite.
-
Shorter Like in MM1.

Happened to me too, granted, I have fought him 4 or 5 times or so, but still I forked myself over a couple of times, being to hastily >.>

the Damage Barrier wasn't longer in any other NES title >.>

At least it doesn't fire in three RANDOM directions like the Junk Shield.
-
You know, I realized that I really like the arsenal of MM9. The only weapon I like less is Laser Trident since it's basically just a stronger and bigger pellet.
-

Partially fixed
Not to mention that the scary Concreteman who doesn't want to die alone is weak against it.
-
MM9 pretty much has one of the best, if not the best arsenal of RM weapons ever.
Cmon, Metal Blade was lame, but Black Hole Bomb/Jewel Satellite is even worse.

I think Megaman 9's weapon are useful to me, ever better if Fakeman already got his weapon.
-
I kinda like how Junk Shield kills some smaller enemies as it's coming in to orbit Megaman.
...Too bad we got it in a game where such a trait was useless, considering most enemies were multi-hitters or charge shotters.
But, Jewel Satellite does its job very well, and even as solid as it is, you can shoot it in a direction you want to.
-

I'm all for the Jewel Satellite, but can you use other weapons while protected by it? I think MHX's charged Rolling Shield has 1-up on most other shields for that reason (see broken usage of the Storm Tornado and Fire Wave while shielded).
-
Now THAT is a point worth considering, I feel stupid for not using it in IHX more, save for getting the Hadouken easy.
The Shield Boomerang does have that quality too tho, and even helps in aiding the speed in wich regular attacks can be performed, wich is so unimaginably useful in Zero1 (I would never have gotten sub27 minutes on hard without it.), oh, and it reflects bullets that deal pity ass damage, but still enough to be of use (see Zero 2, Kuwagust's Mission).
What Rolling Shield does deserve props for is that it absorbs bullets while being a projectile weapon, not sure about IHX's, but I'm pretty sure that no other projectile weapon has that trait (at least not the way uncharged Rolling Shield has.)
At any rate, Jewel Satellite is the best shield weapon in the classic series, but thinking about it over all series, it does seem to be 1-upped by IHX's Rolling Shield and the Shield Boomerang, I'm putting Shield Boomerang on first place, seeing as how it's has the pro of be able to deal good damage to a more wide variety of bosses (even more so on Hard).
-Elpis
-
The shield boomerang is rather meh. It has limited coverage. Doesn't protect you against attacks from above, behind, or below at all. I never use it much. Jewel Satellite, on the other hand, is rather broken.
Can't comment on IHX as I've never played it (I don't have a PSP).
-
At face value it's meh, but apparently there're hidden tricks.
