That's beautiful. Absolutely beautiful! 0v0
Zan, I'm not sure if you take requests, but I'd love if you did a PB Sprite.
-
How I love this thread glad to see it's finally back. If you do take request I do have something in mind but if you don't it's okay.
-
Zan, I'm not sure if you take requests, but I'd love if you did a PB Sprite.
Same as PB said, but a Vixy sprite (http://forum.rockmanpm.com/index.php?topic=82.0;msg=1504), pretty please? :-[
-
Poor poor Zan... just made the thread, and he gets pounced with requests 8D
Anywho, the sprite looks good, although the red seems a little... off somehow. Could just be me.

Just you. (Red seems normally fine. *Points to Aile the color queen's alternate colors*)
And yes, poor Zan, once he's made a comback, everyone just downright gangs up on him. X)

Basically this. Now I'll actually have more time to follow up on this thread as well.
-
I gotta hand it to you--your custom sprites are absolutely gorgeous. Mine are mostly crap. How do you do it, man?
-
Roll...
That is simply beautiful Zan... owo
-
I want to make love with her. :-)
Not really, but Roll Caskett is so adorable. 0v0
-
(http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/ZanSidera/ZX_Roll.gif)
EXCELLENT! That is awesome. :D
-
Tried to fix Roll a bit an added Rock:
-
Rock looks okay for the most part, Roll's face does blend in with the hair a little..
and..
Same as PB said, but a Vixy sprite (http://forum.rockmanpm.com/index.php?topic=82.0;msg=1504), pretty please? :-[
Well, there we have a request from Vix and PB, when you have some free time. Also, can you ask Vix to restore your avatar that you had last before the reset?
-
I expect great work from our local historian here. Great job, Zan!
-
I do have a request if you have time or intrest.
I fix'd it~ ^^

They're both awesome! and Roll looks even better now.

Now, we can Rock and Roll... XD
-
If it took me the entire weekend to make Rock, what makes you think I've got time for requests during the week?...
As compensation, have a Servbot:
Also some fixes here and there.
-
That servebot looked pretty easy to make, though he looks rather stiff where his arms are located.
-
Oh, man, those are really good! ^^ *Holds self back from making a request*
-
Excellent sprites, as usual! This is how a 2D DASH should look like.
-
You mean like this? http://www.rockmanpm.com/?p=cpapcom/rockdashds
Excellent sprites Zan, you know your stuff is good when the first posts in the thread are requests XD
-
If it took me the entire weekend to make Rock, what makes you think I've got time for requests during the week?...
I knew this would happen.
-
Ah, I remember that old gag. I wonder how good a DASH game on the DS with graphics like that would be? 8D
-
Which Servbot number is that? 8D
Looks great nonetheless... :3
-
Well well, it seems a robotic monkey is the epitome of what I can force myself to sprite in a week's time... guess Chrono Trigger isn't helping, though.
-
Looks like that Servebot was #13. Oh, and nice Data. looks like you are going to have the whole cast sprited in a matter of weeks.
-
Heh, even with the Chrono Trigger distraction, it still looks awesome.
-
Agreed.
And he can dance too! >w<
-
He can definitely dance.
-
Just like in the first game. omg so kyute~ *snuggles Data* owo
-
He can definitely dance.
This is just so adorable.
-
That's the cutest thing ever!
-
He can definitely dance.

Oh man, cute monkey robot you... >w<
-
(http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/ZanSidera/mm7_SplashWoman.gif)
-
Holy Splashy, that's awesome Zan! The colors are perfect!
-
It's pretty amazing. The outside prongs on the pitchfork look very slightly uneven, but that's a tough angle to sprite it at.
-
Can you try animating her?
-
*boggles in amazement* Holy shite, the accuracy is dead-on (color and style-wise).
-
(http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/ZanSidera/mm7_SplashWoman.gif)
Woah, this is amazing. :O
Great job there Zan.
-
uhh... what they all said.
-
(http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/ZanSidera/mm7_SplashWoman.gif)
...
Amazing... *saves*
-
It's just superb! :O
-
(http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/ZanSidera/Sententia2.gif)
-
Fantastic. Did she get older, or is it a comparison of old sprites to new sprites?
-
(http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/ZanSidera/Sententia2.gif)
It's been a while since we last saw her...
And...
Did she get older, or is it a comparison of old sprites to new sprites?
-
They're all pretty much new and in the same style, from left to right is a progression in time. Aging, outfit changes and little subtleties.
-
Wow, she looks great! And Splashwoman is awesome!
-
(http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/ZanSidera/Sententia2.gif)
Rather interesting sprite-work, Zan. Your shading style is quite easy on the eyes with the lack of unnecessary colours.
Simply beautiful. :)
-

I see...
And that makes it even more awesome to look at now.

-
Let's see, a sprite of a woman we haven't seen awhile now? I like it how it turned out.
-
I have no idea who that is, but it looks awesome.
-
Sometime I wonder, how many hours did that take you?
It's gorgeous.
-
She does look gorgeous. Good lighting on the hair and shading on the clothes. ^^
Are you gonna post more characters? Any old works? o.o
-
Let's see, a sprite of a woman we haven't seen awhile now?
I have no idea who that is, but it looks awesome.
The character is called Saida, who is the twin sister of the character Sententia twice quoted last page.
The sprite is an adaption of this drawing:
http://sophiera.deviantart.com/art/Saida-and-Sententia-Lineart-103473120
Sometime I wonder, how many hours did that take you?
Between working on it one day and not touching it for weeks, I actually don't know. This one is actually still labeled a work in progress of sorts. Heh, I even have another pixel art lying around that's 2 years in the making and still far from finished. It really depends on how much you want to do with it. (And how many times I'm not being lazy)
-
You are a definate well-mannered spriter with ideas, sometimes I can't even finish a simple sprite project myself.. Unless I have free time and finish it at school via USB Flash Drive.
-
(http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/ZanSidera/th_WIP_Saida7.gif)
I always love the amount of details you give to your sprites. Amazing.
-
...How come I haven't commented before now? Well never mind that.
I love your sprites, they're awesomely great.
-
For some reason I am reminded of Farah even though there are practically no similarities.

Made to prove a point on how size and color reduced 3d models turned into sprites should be cleaned up.
-
Hm yea, they were 3D models first, then they shrunk some select poses and turned them to sprites.
Camelot was known for that in many of their games, including the Mario Golf and Tennis series. ^^
Good work with cleaning it up. Isaac never looked better. :3

Made to prove a point on how size and color reduced 3d models turned into sprites should be cleaned up.
I wonder why they didn't do this from the beginning. Seeing how there weren't any complex, fluid animations that absolutely required the usage of 3d models.
Enemy sprites were often zoomed big and disgustingly blurry.
-
Here's hoping that is noted and possibly fixed for Golden Sun 3/DS.
-
I think GSDS will just use other 3D models...
Great sprite, sir. :)
-
Great stuff Zan. superb. :) The girls are really pretty.
-
Wow, that makes me realise how ugly Golden Sun sprites really are. Excellent work.
-
(http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/ZanSidera/NewX4Aile5.gif)
-
Wow, that's beautiful.
-
Wouldn't that be a HD sprite? I mean, as far as DS sprites go.
-
(http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/ZanSidera/NewX4Aile5.gif)
"Does the bat want to play, we'll play!" -Batman Forever, the game
Aile looks decent for the most part, since it's your style anyway.
-
We must hide that from DWII! *hides*

Ahem, Aile is simply beautiful there... 0v0

Giro... O^O
Really awesome there, wait... No coffee? XD
-
Very nice Giro there. Follow by the artwork?
-
Yeah, it's an artwork pose. And the artwork in question doesn't have coffee.
-
Giro... O^O
Really awesome there, wait... No coffee? XD
I seriously wondered where that sterotype came from, I mean why do people always assumed he loves coffee so much?
-
I blame fanart until proven otherwise. XD
-
Maybe I mean one artist did make him a decaying zombie who just wanted a coffee crisp.

Why have I not seen this before...?
-
I believed it's from TMMN's Halloween contest, that pic is...
-
Ah. I see.
-
Fanart is not to blame:

Like I've said, till proven wrong.
And I was proven wrong. XD

Sprite of story's antagonist: "Desius".
Same style as earlier in the thread.
-
He sure looks evil...
But how evil is he?
-
Is he evil enough to see why kids love cinnamon toast crunch??
-
(http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/ZanSidera/Desius_Final-f.gif)
-
Cool.
Im diggin' his cape.
-
That's the limit of wonderfully perfect awasomeness.
-
I dunno, it's kind of plain.
-
I've never really intended his design to be complicated. Being a speed based character, it deliberately is a uniform without much additional detailing. The more complicated cape and coat combination is to counterbalance that with a sense of status.
-
I really like the cape...
And the fourth from the left sprite.
-

It makes sense and all (is even kind of realistic, most clothes are very plain), but ...
Maybe I'm just used to designs basically being pile on as much detail as is possible without looking stupid.

HI, IT'S DAISY!
-
(http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/ZanSidera/Daisy.gif)
"Hi, I'm Daisy."
Nice. :P
EDIT: [parasitic bomb], PB beat me to it. :/
-
Excellent...
Just don't [acid burst] her off, or she'll smack you further than the eye can see.
-
She WISHES she would be captured by Bowser.
On some cold nights and weekends.
Great job Zan. :D

It's a princes fiesta!

That Splash Woman looks like a HD/16 bit Sprite.
-
Now that's a Daisy sprite. XD
-
(http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/ZanSidera/MM7_SheepMan.gif)
-
cool.
-
Sweet. :D
-
Wooliriffic!
-
Kick ass!
-
That's brilliant. :3
-
Nice. Though he looks a bit unbalanced with his legs towards the front like that.
-
wonderful~!
-
Insert one word post of praise relating to your most recently posted sprite here.

Beautiful! How much time have you spend for the creation of this sprite? I have needed for my latest work atleast 5 hours.
The shading is superb along with the choise of colours.
By the way, don't you also want to participate in Kujakiller's Megaman Odyssey Project?
-
That... that is pretty sweet, Zan! Nice job!
-
By the way, don't you also want to participate in Kujakiller's Megaman Odyssey Project?
Perhaps he is already a part of another project.
-

I spend all day trying to make this because of that dress. I've tried a couple of things only to erase it afterward. However, once I finally got the right idea for the dress, I had it done in about 30 minutes. So, I spend literally hours for something I could have done in an hour, had I done it that way from the very beginning...

"Perhaps."

I see. That is also what happens when I work with sprites and tiles. The most time I waste on a graphic is to figure out how it should looks like along with try and error until it fits.

This time an adaption of: http://sophiera.deviantart.com/art/Vipera-Without-lighting-160689498

Sexy! That one came out really well, just like Sententia.
-
Sexy!
Of course, "you" would say that!
-
Of course.
Now for some alternate palettes, since the style reminds me of Melty Blood some.

The sprite looks beautiful. :)

Third palette looks a little flat, I think there might not be enough contrast in the purple.
Anyway:

I agree. ;P I'd go as so far to say that the blue doesn't have quite enough contrast either; there's just so much in the white's palette that it seems like a more obvious issue than it really is.
As for this newest sprite; I don't get why you're not using pure black. You're basically using it, so why not? I know you run into issues with transparency, but that doesn't ever stop game companies from using it themselves. I'd also say that using that much of the darkest black for the dress makes her lower body look flat, since you don't do that anywhere else. I think it can be a really effective shading method if you're consistent with it, but right now, it just draws your attention right to her lower body.
I think her face is kind too round/chubby as well. Especially compared to the referenced art, where the face to hair ratio is different. Granted, it is your character. :P And speaking of the hair, you might want to add more contrast to the browns; the highlights are pretty tame (second to lightest shade might as well not be there).
I also don't really like the effect in her hand... I think you've got too many colors in there, and the palette is pretty close to her own. I would put fewer shades in there, and make it a bit more spastic looking. Since it isn't animated, for it to be effective, I think I should be able to look and it and see it move in my head. It looks too compact with detail that I can't see it happening; it isn't dynamic enough.
For the shoulders, I think the highlights would be better on the rim/edges of her decorations. That would define the lines and shapes there a bit better. The art defined them as having sides, and I think the sprite gives them more of a cone impression.
I'm not sure if that's the most effective way to pixel HER right hand either... that's really something that could just be played with.
And in general, I think you made her clothes look kind of thick; that issue really shows up in the collar.
Now the sprite you posted before this one, the one where the girl is laying down, I like that one a lot. The expression is nice, and I really dig the form of the upper body. I don't so much like the dress though. I would recommend looking at some Renaissance paintings, because I know that there's tons of poses similar to that one floating around (as to if they're wearing a dress, I dunno). In general though, I don't think there's enough folds going on; I don't get the idea of depth and shadow like I do when I look at the rest of her body.
I think my favorite part of this one is the flow of the hair; it works great with the highlights too.
I feel all nostalgic posting up a wall of crit. :P You outta post some animations ya know; you've been doing these single poses for these ladies for quite a while now!
-
Especially compared to the referenced art
One big problem I ran into making these is that the art drawn by Yin/Sophiera has several stylistic differences compared to my own work. I don't mind these little differences, but at times I've changed them back to how I originally had it.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/ZanSidera/NoxFinal2.gif
To name a few changes I made between the reference and the sprite:
-Nox's face was made more pale (and chubbier)
-The complicated shape of Nox's shoulders.
-The way Nox and Vipera's 'vests' are shaded based on material. (Which probably results in the thickness of Nox's clothes)
-The length of Vipera's 'vest'.
-Changing Vipera's pose a bit because the dress isn't that wide.
As you might have noticed as well, the references are cut off at the feet. Something the sprite format didn't permit. Some changes were done because of that as well. Especially with Sententia, I originally tried to use the non-wide dress I had originally designed, but ended up using the wider dress Yin drew because it just worked out better for the pose.
I'll be honest and say that I have absolutely no idea of how the folds would fall, otherwise I would have just shaded it with less dark black.
I reckon that it probably should be bigger, ignoring the size ratio in the reference, and just going with whatever size is best displayed in sprite format. As is often done in games.
I would recommend looking at some Renaissance paintings, because I know that there's tons of poses similar to that one floating around
I actually looked around quite a bit for references on folds for that pose. Couldn't find any, even though it's such a classic pose...
You outta post some animations ya know; you've been doing these single poses for these ladies for quite a while now!
The sprites I post here are the times when I decide to sprite something that I "can" show to others. Just enjoy the dancing monkey in my signature for now.

Something a bit different:
-
Lovely. How long did it take to do?
-
Judging from my computer times, a little over 4 hours whilst being heavily preoccupied with other matters.
-
Oh yeah, that´s the way I sprite too :D
-
Adding adult version, twin sister and alternate expression:
-
Happy Sententia is a horrible horrible lie.
-
(http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/ZanSidera/FE_San9.gif)
-
Something seemed very strange about it as a FE portrait, but I couldn't figure out what at first.
Then I realized it's because of the brown hair.
-
Yeah, it should have been like, blue, or something.
-
Yus.
-
Fixed.
-
Yeah, it should have been like, blue, or something.
Wait I thought that the hair was always brown, or at least the last time I saw a similar one of it.
-
The character's hair is brown, it's just that Fire Emblem loves crazy hair colors.
-
Specifically, there's pretty much not one character with realistic hair colour like brown. There may be blondes, I don't remember exactly.
EDIT: Yeah, there's a few there with normal hair colour (Leaf, main character of Thracia 776, has brown).
-
(http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/ZanSidera/SeshaFinal1.png)
-
That's pretty nice. The blue/purple(?) tone inbetween the light and dark tones in her right breast stands out a bit imo
-
It stands out because that's the darkest shade in the set, meant for lines, which this one depicts the breast shape.
-
But it doesn't stand out in a good way. Both the red and the blue have very similar color values, so there isn't enough contrast between. Also, it doesn't help to put a cold line inbetween the red tones, so the line looks actually brighter than it really is. Besides, he's already giving the shape to the breast with the red shading.
It would look better without that line imo. Just my two cents.
