About the AI and airdodging, there are 2 ways to counter this at the top of my head. One is that there are a few attacks that last long enough such that an airdodge can't go through it completely, and I think Pikachu's backair is an example of this. The other approach is, instead of pursuing an enemy in midair, simply punish them on their landing because even if you airdodge into a land, you suffer from noticeable landing lag where you're completely vulnerable. For counter characters, go for a running grab.

Speaking of pattern recognition, the same applies for amiibo as well. The amiibo is designed to be conditioned into whatever attacks works best, so you can exploit this by going to 300% slow smash and repeatedly getting hit but what you want your amiibo to do. I was able to get a Toon Link to spam nothing but his custom sliding spin attack up until about lv 30 where his AI will randomly up-B off the stage and self-destruct (thus telling the amiibo that up-B is now bad).

For Wii U Classic 9.0, because there are many instances of free-for-alls unlike the 3DS ver, the general strategy is to basically camp and survive until a few are left such that you can pick them off with ease (since you have a 2 stock advantage).

Master Core at 9.0 is all about squeezing in little hits and priming yourself to dodge/shield whatever comes next. Master Beast for example generally rotates between all of his attacks, so the idea is that you alternate between tilts and shielding/rolling until it does its background attack where it leaves himself vulnerable and you can throw out a Smash attack. Same with Master Edges, you basically alternate between a quick aerial and dodging until it throws out his fast swipe attack, after of which you can somewhat go ham because all its other attacks have a long tell to them.

Too bad we don't have language options from Melee anymore:

I was skeptical about the datamine leak thinking it might've been some overdue April Fool's joke, but a bug in Classic mode for the 3DS where you fight Kirby characters on Battlefield leads me to believe that the leak is in fact legit. Reddit thread

I can definitely see Ryu being chosen as a third party (in spite of SFV being a PS4 exclusive...), but Roy strikes me as a really odd choice, primarily because him having a fanfare file points to him being an entire character, rather than say a costume of Marth with ph1r3. For those that don't know, every unique character has their own fanfare file, even though many are identical (e.g. Mario, Luigi, Peach, Dr. Mario):
snd_bgm_Z01_F_Mario_3DS
snd_bgm_Z09_F_Luigi_3DS
snd_bgm_Z13_F_Peach_3DS
snd_bgm_Z60_F_MarioD_3DS

However, alternate characters like Olimar/Alph and the Koopalings share the same file:
snd_bgm_Z25_F_Pikmin_3DS
snd_bgm_Z70_F_Koopajr_3DS

With Roy, I can't help but think:
-"another Marth?"
-"another 'Roy'?"
-"another Fire Emblem character?"
-"isn't Roy one of the worst lords in the series?"
-"why do they care about Roy again if he has nothing recent coming out? Are they going to announce a localized Mother 3/Binding Blade Virtual Console port or something?"

Sakurai has been confirmed to be making an appearance at some Fire Emblem 25th anniversary event. Link Roy

EDIT: I should also add, Smash 4 uses the same filename convention of Brawl, and that the unused Mewtwo and Roy fanfare in Brawl is actually different from the patched ones:
snd_bgm_Z38_FMYU2
snd_bgm_Z39_FROY

snd_bgm_Z80_F_Mewtwo_3DS.nus3bank
snd_bgm_Z81_F_Ryu_3DS.nus3bank
snd_bgm_Z82_F_Lucas_3DS.nus3bank
snd_bgm_Z83_F_Roy_3DS.nus3bank

Through some roundabout Mii sharing shenanigans, you can actually use Mewtwo's customs, but they're all incomplete/buggy so they're not really that interesting:

http://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/32r6l9/mewtwos_custom_specials_kinda_and_the_return_of/

Also, on the Wii U version, I got locked out from online for doing Mewtwo's 10/100 Multi-Man smash since I did it with every character, and now the servers think I have a corrupted save. Mewtwo not having any custom moves is one thing, but this is unacceptable.

For Trophy Rush block grinding, I did Palutena's Heavenly Light on co-op. Even then, it's still pretty tedious.

Target pages for Wave 4 and Splatoon have finally popped up.

Got a Jiggs amiibo! Preorders lasted less than 30 minutes.

Shulk is one of those characters you can easily pick out the amateurs from the experienced players, since he's very much a walling/heavy commitment character.

About streetpassing, I got a SpillPass since I needed a Raspberry Pi, and now I get free streetpasses as soon as I use them. It's pretty ridiculous...

Also, I'm not the only one hoping that Pac-Man's amiibo will be reasonably easy to obtain after launch, right? He's not an exclusive and his home series is very well-known, to say the least...
Mega Man and Sonic are fairly common, so it's probably safe to assume so. Pac is typically the last nonexclusive to sell out on preorders. Plus, he's getting MK8 support.

I wanted Ness and Lucina. Walked out with Ness secured but Lucina was a no-go since they sold out.
Wanted all 6, but walked out with only Ness and Pac-Man. And I don't even like Pac-Man. lol

I've been told the online store *may* have preorders available later today, so get that F5 button ready. EDIT: JK GS sold out entire Wave 4.

When I first saw the trailer, I didn't notice anything distinctly SMT or FE about it. At best, I recognized Tiki, but I didn't care enough to rewind the video at the time and just assumed otherwise.

Fun fact is that Persona is technically not supposed to be branded as a spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei, but the original Megami Tensei, and in Japan was known as "Megami Ibunroku Persona", only sharing the "Megami Ibunroku" brand with Devil Survivor. In Japan, this game is titled Gen'ei Ibunroku♯FE, which pretty much cements the fact that this crossover is now Persona/Devil Survivor and not SMT, despite initially being teased as such way back in 2013.

I actually originally wondered why they chose SMT instead of Persona to crossover with Fire Emblem. The target audience of SMT is mature, whereas Persona and Fire Emblem are more the teenage anime crowd. Can't really say I'm surprised they made the switch, but I am surprised by how loosely related it seems to be.

Relevant pics I found on GAF:

All it needs now is Featuring Donte from the DMC: Devil May CryTM Series.

Please enable Mii Fighters on For Anyone. D:
If they're really worried about [ray splasher] and Hitler Miis, just only allow preset default Miis...

Also, shouldn't his shoulder pauldrons rotate around the joint when his arm is raised? Ah well, maybe the way Mii Gunners were animated didn't allow for it.

More weird amiibo gift stuff.

In my last session of amiibo fights, 4 of them received hats as gifts. One of those hats was new to my WiiU. But before receiving it I scanned all 4 of them in on my New3DS. The new hat, a Zelda Wig, did not change when I scanned the amiibo into New3DS, even though every other hat has changed before tonight. Also, one of the hats that was a repeat on WiiU became a new hat when scanned into New3DS.

Money amounts have never changed. Equipment doesn't seem to change either. I haven't checked with custom moves much, but they seem to stay the same. Obviously trophies are going to change cause the 2 versions have different trophies. But it's weird that hats change like this. I'm assuming outfits would change as well, but I haven't paid attention to them cause I already have all of them in both versions.

Ah, in that case, sorry for the misinformation. My best guess is that the unlockable hats/custom moves are determined differently between Wii U and 3DS because of the challenges. For example, in 3DS the Princess Zelda Wig must first be obtained via challenge before it can be unlocked via random customs (which is extremely stupid because a duplicate hat is entirely useless).

3DS challenge list
Wii U challenge list

EDIT: So I checked my amiibo gifts, and they are indeed still all the same, everything except trophies. I believe mine are all the same because I've already unlocked everything in both versions. One of the hats I received is Spartan Helmet, which is a challenge-unlocked hat in the 3DS version.

EDIT2: Here's a Miiverse post.
1. Wii U 100%
2. 3DS 100%
3. 3DS 0% (after file delete)

Notice the 3rd has the exact same formation and number of gifts, but completely different, even the equipment (most likely because of the unlockable characters modifying what is determined by RNG). Hope that answers the mystery.

By the way, as if to be super ironic, the Cow Skull Hat was the last 3DS hat I was missing when I originally was completing the game. I spent I think 3 days of nonstop Classic 9.0 grinding just for that, accumulating over 99 Link trophies, 99 Ganondorf trophies, and 63 Toon Link trophies.

Japan is getting a reprint of Villager, Captain Falcon, and Little Mac: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/support/information/2015/0303.html

About the amiibo gifts, I can check for you (have a Wii U and n3DS with separate owners/NNID). I'll update this post and see if the gifts can be given to others.

EDIT: Yea, you are free to give the gifts to anyone, regardless of creator/ownership (though I think you can only change ownership on the Wii U ver, couldn't find it in n3DS). The gifts are the same, although you can't duplicate it across different consoles (the 2nd time you try to save an amiibo, it will actually tell you the data was already overwritten and therefore cannot be saved). Well, at least, not without a powersave.

Considering the average person doesn't care about plastic Nintendo figures, it's not hard to see why retailers also don't care. At the end of the day, even if said non-toy-specialty (i.e. non-TRU) retailers had an appropriate stock, they'd still probably sell out within a few days just because of how limited shelf space they have, and for retailers, the profit is negligible in the grand scheme (especially factoring in how much customer support they have to deal with for these things, which are only $13 MSRP). If anyone is to blame, it's NoA for not having enough confidence in their sales projection.

And then there's the whole scarcity argument. A lot of people won't admit it, but a huge factor in the amiibo craze is the shortage and the possibility of discontinuation. If stock was plentiful, scalpers aren't going to hoard them, and people would feel less inclined to buy them (due to a perceived drop in rarity) which means stores could possibly be overstocked for an indefinite amount of time (just look at all the Diddy Kongs), which is very bad for the store.

The rarest of Wave 4 is definitely going to be Ness, though Robin/Lucina are easy contenders for next rarest.

I'm really scared about Wave 4 preorders, after Toad and Gold Mario. Wave 3 preorder aside from Rosalina lasted weeks, but Toad and Gold Mario were gone day 1.

I'm really surprised at the changes they made for every boss, they seemed more strategic and involved this time around. It's kind of funny that every boss has some eyeball-arrow gimmick, though every dungeon does have an arrow variant to be fair. Sad that they nerfed ice arrows though.

Really disappointed that Majora is still stupidly easy though, even without FD. Just the bow makes him a cakewalk. I tried to fight each form using Deku/Goron/Zora respectively, though I found it more gimmicky and frustrating overall, considering the alternative.

All in all, still love Majora's Mask to this day. In retrospect, I think it's underwhelming that practically almost every sidequest leads to a piece of heart, but the sidequests were already fun in and of themselves to begin with.

I'm starting Link Between Worlds to give myself an excuse to play my MMn3DS. Starting with Hero Mode was a terrible idea...

Just wanted to say that Tap Jump isn't entirely useless. With Tap Jump On, you can Up Smash/Up B out of shield more easily, whereas with Tap Jump Off you have to press Jump at the same time. Some characters like Fox benefit from it greatly. Other characters like Yoshi or Meta Knight are better to have it off. It's character dependent.

EDIT: Some interesting amiibo stats:

About the leak, I personally thought the video was pretty convincing. The 3DS ESRB leak had all sorts of oddities, like strange bold lines, Yoshi's odd placement, or the change in Fox's CSS background color, but that ended up being true.

Couldn't help but think, with all the 3rd-party-Mans:

It's been a long time since I posted here, but if anyone wanted to play Wii U ver online:

NNID: DimensionDrifter (brother's account)

I prefer FG ruleset, 1v1 or 2v2 (not big on FFA). Battlefield/Smashville/Town & City are fine. I usually leave Team Attack off.

Finally 100%'d this game, Mii Hats took forever to unlock. I'm short 2 Bonus Effects for equipment, but I'm tired of RNG and I'll probably acquire them eventually...

I've been struggling to pick a main, but right now I like ZSS for 1v1s and Samus for 2v2s. It's quite fun partnering with a heavyweight like Dedede, Ganondorf, Ike, etc., and just grabbing an opponent for your partner to get an easy smash.

Anyone interested in playing a few 1v1s online?

Really, Mr. Sakurai? Players are gonna spoil the game no matter what kind of content is in the game. It's the internet. Live with it.

Just to clarify, Sakurai doesn't mean "youtube spoils game cutscenes = I'm butthurt, no more cutscenes". What he's saying is that the cutscenes were tailored to be experienced by players actually playing the game, rather than passive viewers, because the cutscenes were meant to motivate players to go through SSE (which is otherwise extremely tedious and monotonous). Understand that cutscenes probably costed a significant portion of Brawl's budget, hence why they're devalued when they can simply all be watched on youtube for free.

You'll notice that Smash 4 actually embraces youtube: why do you think we have youtube-tailored character reveals?

Recently beat and 100%'d this game (aside from synthing all the items, things are just way too expensive).

Although I have a lot of minor complaints about the game, overall I actually really liked it. In particular, I love the character designs: they're all visually thematic, they differentiate from each nicely, and they're animated in interesting ways.

Here's hoping for an ASG2.
