Im not sure if this is the right board exactly, hoping so.

I got my 360 in hopes that i would be able to hook up my computer to it...until i found out that i would need an ethernet cable to do so ...but comp doesn't have ethernet ports, nor can it even support any such thing.... so it really bummed me out that i can not do that.

But now i just learned how i could be able to use a external hard drive to connect to the 360, so if i do that...i'd be able to access files?

Does that mean i could be able to run EXE files like nes or snes or gba emulators or whatever ? ...it's my dream to be able to play a game on my TV instead of computer...

Or is it ONLY strictly just for picture and videos only ?

Cause i run my internet through a USB-only router, that's sorta like hooked up to my TV, and usb slot in the back of my comp.. :-/

Well no that's not what i mean.

I mean like being able to run something like fceuxd (nes emulator), snex 9x (snes emulator) visualboyadvance (gameboy advance/color/regular), no$gba (nintendo DS) ...etc + rom straight off the external harddrive

Or is it just purely impossible ??

He's talking about retro games (NES, SNES, GEN, GB, GBA, and so on). You might have to get emulators that works for the 360, because I'm not sure if EXE files can run on it. Just get the external hard drive and format it to FAT or whatever is compatible with 360 and PS3 (I wish NTFS worked =o=). XVID-encoded video files works tho, I tried that a few weeks ago. ^^ </wii>

There's actually an easier way to solve this.

Buy the wired controller for the Xbox 360 and hook it into one of your computer's USB ports.

There, now you can play your emulators while using the 360 controller. That's how I do it.

Unless you're willing to spend money modding your 360, then I think you're out of luck. Even then, I haven't ever heard of any emulators that'll run on it.

Also, considering most motherboards and OEM computers come with ethernet ports built in nowadays, your computer must really be a piece of [parasitic bomb].

Since this is here, I'll hijack it for a sec. What the heck is the purpose of installing a game on the system if I still need the disc to play the game? Does it just make it run smoother?

How old is your computer that you don't have an ethernet port? Mine is three years old and it has one. Your connection must suck too because internet via USB is slow.

Yea mine is pretty outdated.

I got my computer back in 2001. And i've had it ever since with no real problems. Only have had to replace the cooling fan 1 time ...and went through like 5 seperate USB mouses over the years, that's it.

I only get 15 kb/sec download/upload speed maximum.

I don't really got the money for a new comp at this time, otherwise i would just get a whole new comp. But it's alright

Okay so i finally got to try the external hard drive, for the very first time, like hooking it up to the 360 through one of the USB ports on the front of the system.
It works, pretty cool.

So i tested out like all the videos i had on it...almost all of them give these errors like "this video contains audio or video that is not supported" ..or like .. "unsupported codec" or whatever.
They're all .AVI's ...but a couple did actually work fine though.

I can defintely notice the quality is quite a bit more clear and brigther on my TV as opposed to comp's monitor screen, pretty cool.

but there's only 1 complain i have about this.
There's no way to zoom in, zoom out, or manually stretch the picture size of video screen size.

It doesn't matter if i pick any of those 6 different video display options like fullscreen, stretch, letterbox, etc etc. They all make zero differece whatsoever.

So like comparing some pokemon videos at the same second on my computer, against on the 360 on my TV ...some of it just gets chopped off.

But my TV is wider and taller than my comp's monitor screen...but that just makes it feel like my comp is actually better to SEE everything, but worse quality. :-/

I don't got one of those HD-tv's, just a regular TV.

The 360 is very picky about how its videos are encoded. It'll play certain AVIs and refuse to load others.

There is a conversion program floating around out there somewhere that'll re-encode the video to whatever form of AVI it is the 360 likes, but I haven't got it myself and I'm not sure what it's called.
