It really depends when it comes to the game giving us closure. Inafune said himself the reason he hasn't put closure on the Classic series because he didn't want it to end. If Wily dies, the Classic series may very well be over.
I am very interested to see if that Roboenza disease is related to the Maverick virus. If Wily has been working on Zero for a while, it's possible the disease could have spread through Wily's already evil robots to other robots across the world. However, this theory would mean the original Mega Man somehow stopped the virus, and it didn't come back until Sigma caught it.

At that point, the series will most certainly end. I mean, it's a good thing that the Roman numbering system isn't used anymore, because we all know what the Roman numbering of "30" is... [eyebrow]

Speaking of Sigma, Gamma (also from MM3) uses the same theme naming as him.

wow, the whole "Cataclysm Theory" all over again? :\
i think it was pretty obvious that the ending on power fighters was non-canonical and not supposed to be taken seriously, that's like saying Dan's Ending in Marvel Vs Street Fighter was canonical.........

No, the Power Fights ending is canon. It's just that Capcom will never touch it again.

The idea is that the ending to PF is wholly canonical, it's just that people seem to attach false implications to it. Just because Wily "intended" something, does not mean he actually "did".

What about Dr. Mays? Also, Wily III will really be Wily II, because at the end of MM20, Wily II will fake his own death, so... no worries. He'll teleport to an alternate dimension and star in EXE Quest. And then he'll return to Earth, with barely any time passing.
