News and Announcements / Re: Miyabi Holds New Contest, Spambots Rejoice!
« on: October 16, 2012, 04:23:06 AM »
For anyone interested in seeing the results, well, the only results are that everyone's a winner.

So in the end, I just had 4 people enter, one of whom submitted something for both categories. Not much of a competition, much less did I feel like it'd be super fair to judge one entry over the other. But I don't want to keep delaying the contest just to get more participants. So I just decided to dig deeper into my wallet, and give all 4 participants a copy of the CD of their choosing.

Nevertheless, enjoy the art of what are, in my opinion, much more creative ideas for an album cover than what we officially got. And a celebration of the CDs in general. Here are the entries. Click each artist's name to go to their dA submission of their piece:

Rock:

Silversteeldragunn -

Rock-Bomber -

Techno:

RADIX/Gonzo -

Tabby -

Rock-Bomber -

My thanks to the participants and to those who enjoy their art!

Just a heads up in case anyone here is still interested in submitting, I've extended the deadline one week to hopefully get a couple extra entries. Submissions are now due by next Sunday, October 14th. I've got one entry for both categories right now, so still a good chance to win! But you know, it'd be nice to have some actual competition.

And if you're not sure which category you'd rather enter for, enjoy the samples posted at TMMN. Quite psyched to finally have a Wily Capsule rock remix myself, although curious how the whole medley will play out. And disappointed there's only three of them in it...Hahaha. C'est la vie. I'll take it.

b) This other guy insisted that Iris was human.

Someone called troll, the guy wondered why it angered people since "it's only the truth".

Now, "fanon cited as canon" is one of the easiest ways to invoke my nerdy wrath, and you'd think I'd flip out on this guy--especially after he brushed off evidence that directly contradicted his theory ("take what Capcom says with a grain of salt"/"none of that happens in X4's X-path"--but it's kinda hard to muster up ALL my rage when this is the first time I've seen anyone claim that Iris was human.

I dunno, this dude might be on to something...I mean, if our society is steadfast on creating the ultimate taboo in robot girlfriends, I'm totally sure Reploid society would have their own taboo human girlfriends. So let's say she really died and Zero was all distraught and never interested in Layer or other females, so X and Axl and Dr. Cain got together and through the wonders of human cloning and advanced genetics, created for him a new human girlfriend that looked and sounded just like Iris. C'mon, when you're watching someone else's bird/dog/cat that "accidentally" passes on, who hasn't gotten a similar replica to fool the owner, am I right? Happens all the time. And that totally clears up what the TMMN commenter failed to explain, as to how a human could come back to life. So when X acts all coy and goes "You're that girl from the Repliforce incident," we all know he's just playing along to keep Zero's mental health in check.

But I'm really surprised people aren't jumping on the "Figment of his Imagination" theory. I mean, in the bottom image, Zero's eyes are totally closed. He's definitely just dreaming her up. That's why in the top image, X is all shocked, like he doesn't know who Zero is talking to, but is playing along for the hell of it anyhow. "Zero, I don't see...oh,...yeah...that girl from the Repliforce incident. She's looking...well."

I would move on to the Dr. Doppler secret dopplerganger capsule theory, the Double chose a chick from the past instead of a tubby guy cover for his next gig, or the Sigma body possession scenario, but we all know those are the most ludicrous theories yet... 8D

Accredited locksmith psychiatrists with great content articles, this is not for you! Although I do take pride in giving you all great, exceptional information and completing fantastic jobs, and totally welcome that praise. But now I ask you all here at RPM to be the ones completing fantastic jobs for me, so that you shall be rewarded with rockin' prizes!

Since the internet gods apparently were giving me a sign to start spamming my own plugs today, I'm here to announce another small fanart contest for anyone who is interested in joining.

Rock/Techno Album Cover Fanart Contest

RULES:

Two categories as usual, and you are allowed to enter in both if you would like. If you place in one category, you will be automatically disqualified from the other, for reasons of fairness, and to give other people a chance to win a prize.

CATEGORY 1: ROCK
~ Album front and back cover

CATEGORY 2: TECHNO
~ Album front and back cover

When the 25th Anniversary Rock and Techno soundtracks were announced, a lot of people weren't thrilled with the concept of another Classic-only remix CD, when other series haven't gotten much love in the official mix realm. Others didn't care for the lazy CD cover sprites or bland typography. They just don't really scream "Rock" or "Techno." So your goal in this contest is to revamp the CD by creating your own album cover art that you think would better suit both a true 25th album, and give the art that "rock" or "techno" appeal. Put your frustrations to bed and prove to the world what would really make a great anniversary album!

At the moment, we don't know what tracks will for sure be on either album, but everyone has their opinion on what they would like to hear on them. The other half of this contest is to also create a back cover, showcasing the stages/themes you would like to see on this 25th Anniversary Rock or Techno album. 10 Tracks? 17? 25? You make the call.

As we're having fun with this, you do not have to use Classic Series songs or characters only. If you think this album should be more X-flavored or Battle Network-heavy, you can incorporate that into your album art and song choices. Be creative, and show us what you think would make a great CD! The back does not need to be art-intensive, but the more effort you put into your design work, the better. The judging will mostly focus on your art for the front cover, but any additional pieces created for the back (or a full-blown booklet if you want to be that ambitious) will be taken into consideration in the overall judging. Your song choices have no bearing in the judging. That would be cruel.

PRIZES:

There will just be two winners for each category this time around.

* First place winner in the Rock Category takes home a copy of the Rockman 25th Anniversary Rock CD.
Techno Category winner gets a copy of the 25th Anniversary Techno CD.

* The second place winners of each category will receive their choice of a 3-month dA subscription or an Archie Comics Megaman Graphic Novel.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Image size: Any size is OK, but please try to make your image canvas size a perfect square for the front cover. For example, 850 pixels x 850 pixels or 1500 pixels x 1500 pixels. Not 350 x 734. You have a little more freedom extending the length of the back cover.

Only submit your own work, as usual. Any character, major or minor, from any series is allowed.  Participants are allowed to submit from all over the world. It's easier for me to get prizes to US entrants, because international shipping is complicated and pricey, but I'll do what I can for you guys who aren't in the States.

Kids, ask your parents' permission first, as I will need your full mailing address to send the prize.

Entries do not need to be fully colored, but it is preferred.

Please keep all your entries appropriate for most ages. No nudity or extremely suggestive sexual content in your raves and mosh pit and backstage groupie art.

Entries can either be e-mailed to me at rock2125[at]hotmail[dot]com, or you can just PM/note me a link to your pic.

DO NOT post your pics in this thread, in your fanart threads or dA galleries until the contest is over. This is the fairest way for competitive reasons. I prefer to keep them all secret until the deadline has passed.

I'll edit a confirmed entry list in this journal when I receive them. So you won't be in the dark about whether or not I've received your entry.

DEADLINE:

The deadline for this contest will be Sunday, October 7th 14th, by 11:59 PM CST. This is a couple days before the CDs release, so that hopefully I can get the prizes to the winners as close to the release date as possible, shipping time depending, of course.

So, if you have any questions, feel free to let me know. Join in if you'd like and good luck to everyone who enters!

Confirmed Entries:

Radix/Gonzo
Silversteeldragunn

Because at one point, they were all villains in either the games or anime. That version of Tom/Utagai is his Cygnus-possessed anime self from Episode...26-ish..., as alluded to by the hat and trenchcoat. Kraft was initially Zero's adversary, and you explained Heartless yourself. Going along your line of thinking, then others like Yuriko and Tesla also wouldn't necessarily belong either, as they eventually sided with good in one form or the other.

More than anything, my one glaring question would be: Where's Vile? I'm glad some lesser-loved X guys are in there, but really? He deserved a fedora and hard liquor.

From 宮臓:

Dat villainy. 8B

Although no sexy new formalwear on Yuriko and the few others makes me sad. Weil is definitely pimpin', not being couped up in that glass of Kool-Aid, though.

I'd say the Official Weapon Art pretty much screams sun, not sand.

And when you consider the Pharaoh's connection to the sun in ancient Egypt (often considered to be the son of the sun god), it makes the most sense that Pharaoh Man harnesses the power of the sun.

I mean, c'mon, he wouldn't pull off the disco inferno pose if he wasn't underneath something bright!

Man, I actually completely forgot about that being in Magnet's stage.  -AC

I wish I could tell you if there are more hidden gems, but alas, not being able to read Japanese, I don't know what else really is in there that would blow your mind. In general, each game just has a short page, Ariga had those special comics, weapons and main characters all got a good blurb->paragraph or so. There is something resembling an interview with Inafune, Ariga, Iwamoto and Ikehara that goes for 7 pages. And then the enemy pages which you see in this scan. That's the gist of the book.

In Mega Man Gigamix, Dr. Light and Dr. Wily only worked together on Gamma, with Dr. Wily creating the eight robots on his own, but since Ariga's series isn't game canon...
Plus if you go off of his Megamix explanation, Wily built them all and volunteered them to be sent into space to harvest the energy sources to finish construction on Gamma. They were all registered with the WRA, and shouldn't have really been a surprise to Light. 'Course Ariga developed his Gigamix story as time went on, but that's a contradiction in his own tales, too.

I can confirm Marshmallow's citation with a scan if you would like it, but I will tell you for sure that text is indeed on page 89.

Just glanced through Rockman Memories/Perfect Memories to see if there was anything similar, but I don't see the [D.R.&W.N.] notation anywhere in there.

And at least as a visual concept, you do have the RW logo on R20/MMOCW's page 21 that at least proves they were thinking about making it widely known in the game:

Oh, I just noticed, contests from the previous years, do not have menu options to go to the later years. In fact, 2010 and 2009 links go to 2008.

Which is why I said
Quote from: Miyabi's post last night
One of these days, I really need to get around to working on this stupid little website of mine...

and

...(although don't go looking for 2009 or 2010's on there yet).
:P

The last two days were the first I've even attempted new html for that site in 4 years, which is why the older ones haven't been updated. Both of those contests mentioned were posted here, and you can find them in the fanart section if you haven't perused them before. Although Imageshack just recently changed their rules, so that free users no longer have unlimited uploads, and just a mere 500. So my 5000+ images, including the contest uploads from previous years, will disappear from the web in another week or so. So that's another reason why I want to actually get them transferred and update my lil' site soon. It's nothing special by any means, and I'm no pro web designer, but hopefully at least some people enjoy seeing everything in one place.

37
One of these days, I really need to get around to working on this stupid little website of mine. Heck, I'm surprised my freewebs site is still active, seeing how they went through a rebranding in the 4 years it's been since I last logged in.  XD In any case, it gives me a place to post this year's results (although don't go looking for 2009 or 2010's on there yet).

The full results and all entries can be found in handy wannabe Classic Stage Select screen format here: http://rockmiyabi.webs.com/VDay12.html

Overall, congrats to the following people for placing in the top three in their respective categories:

<u>Talent - </u>
1.) Tabby
2.) Silversteeldragunn (aka Sheep)
3.) Aquacapsak

<u>Humor -</u>
1.) General-RADIX (aka The Great Gonzo)
2.) Jecht-Striker + The Red Priest
3.) Bluddocean

All winners have been contacted, so check your dA notes for details!

Thank you to all who participated! Once again, without you, I wouldn't have had such a great, record turnout. It was a very close battle, and not a single person was voted into the same spot across the board by our judges. In fact, many ties were broken by the final judge. You all really made our decisions a tough one, and no matter where you placed, you should be proud of the work you put into impressing us. Sorry I can't give away something to everyone...if I was magically rich, I would try.

Thanks again to my judges, linkfreak131, PB, Yllisos and Saito-kun for helping out this year! Hopefully we can have even better turnout next time!

38
Contest is officially closed, and I should have gotten all the last minute entries saved. Of course if you don't see your name on the confirmed list and sent something, let me know.

Currently preparing everything for judging, hopefully will get that out to the judges by tonight. PB and Yllisos, I'll PM you when it's set. Thanks to all 17 people who participated, listed above. That nearly doubled participation from my other 3 contests, which never topped 10. So THANK YOU, regardless of where you eventually place.

39
Added both of you guys to the judges list, as well as posted full photos of the artwork prizes available.

Posted on: January 18, 2012, 04:31:11 PM
Last call for anyone here. The deadline is tomorrow night, so get those pieces submitted! Currently 6 total entries, so let's see those last minute submissions fly in! You've got a good chance to win.

Recently-created contest post hyper-combo finish!

After a one year hiatus, I'm back to spend more of my hard earned cash on you peoples. Miyabi's Legendary Rockman Valentine’s Day Fanart Contest Never Dies!! (Don’t think I’m gonna get 10 dozen strong on that one… ;D )

As in the past, there will be two categories, one that focuses on humor, and one that focuses on talent. This gives you two chances to submit something and win. And once again, these categories were voted on by my deviantART watchers.

<u>PRIZES: </u>

I'll still give you guys the option of picking your prize, so the grand prize winners of each category will be able to choose the prize of their choice, at $40 USD or less. Still haven't gotten a standard Bandai D-Arts X or Kotobukiya Zero? I should be able to foot the bill for it. UDON Megaman Tribute? Sure thing. Got something else in mind you've wanted to get from eBay, but haven't had the cash? I'll do what I can. Want a year subscription to dA? It's yours. As long as it's under $40, it's game. A cash prize through Paypal is also an option.

To go along with that, I have a few Rockman.EXE Xebec production artwork sketches available to distribute. They are from the first season. The choices include one of Blues, Netto, Enzan, Yaito, Devil Roll, and a small army of Metool/Biree viruses. The first place winners have the first choice at one sketch, to have their own piece of the animated series:

The second place winners of each category will be next in line to choose one sketch. They also will receive their choice of a 3-month dA subscription or an Archie Comics Megaman Graphic Novel.

The third place winners will be the last to choose one sketch. And I’ll probably throw in some random Link Battlechips for good measure.

<u>RULES: </u>

Two categories; you are allowed to enter in both if you would like. If you place in one category, you will be automatically disqualified from the other, for reasons of fairness (and to give other people a chance to win a prize).

<b><u>CATEGORY 1: MEGAMAN DATING FORCE (Humor)</u></b>

It’s been a rough year for Megaman when it comes to new games. Let’s face it, we all are hoping Capcom will do something different with the character, rather than repeating the same old formula over and over again. So, let’s pretend that the next Megaman game they plan to create ventures into new territory: a dating sim. Your goal for this category is to show us what this dating sim would look like. What do you have to say to get a Robot Master to go out with your character? What gift would you get a NetOp who has fallen for you? Will a marriage between you and your Navigator co-worker keep your bonds strong, or cause disruption when you are just trying to do your job? How do you woo a hot, single mother whose astronaut husband mysteriously vanished in space years ago and has yet to come back home?

Draw a screenshot, a game cover, make a flash, whatever you’d like, as long as it fits with the dating sim theme. Your humor can push the limit a bit, but try not to get too dirty. While there are more mature aspects to relationships, this is not a contest for a porn sim. This theme will work as the humor category, so the judging will focus on the wacky, zany content you come up with.

<b><u>CATEGORY 2: RIBBONS AND LACE (Talent)</u></b>

Ribbons, lace, and frilly things have always been synonymous with romance. They can also be really tough to draw! According to history buffs, the relation goes back to the days of the Middle Ages, when knight(man)s battled in tournaments, ladies would tie their scarves or ribbons around the arm or lance of the knight that they favored. So put in every ounce of your strength to draw some Megaman characters decorating for the holiday with their love or dressing up in some exquisite ribbons and lace for their significant other.

The only prerequisite is there must be at least one ribbon or something lacy in the image. Again, nothing dirty. You can be a little risqué, but no blatant nudity is allowed. This theme will work as the talent category, so the judging will focus on the work and effort you put into your piece.

<u>SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: </u>

- Only submit your own work, as usual. Any character, major or minor, from any series is allowed. Having characters from multiple series are totally allowed. Again, to be fair to all, same-gender groupings are allowed. Humans and robots and reploids and servbots and computer programs and viruses and alien AM/FM beings, etc. all deserve their chance for some lovin', without prejudice!!

- Participants are allowed to submit from all over the world. It’s easier for me to get prizes to US entrants, because international shipping is complicated and pricey, but I’ll do what I can for you guys who aren’t in the States. In some cases, Paypal might be the best option for your winnings.

- Entries do not need to be colored, but it is preferred.

- Please keep all your entries appropriate for most ages. No nudity or extremely suggestive sexual content. No, this is still not a Valentine's hentai contest. Lingerie or skimpy man briefs: I'll allow it. Nekked ladies showing the world what they got: I'll definitely look at them, but they will be disqualified until they get covered up.

- Entries can either be e-mailed to me at <b>rock2125[at]hotmail[dot]com</b>, or you can just PM/note me a link to your pic.

- DO NOT post your pics in this thread, in your fanart threads or dA galleries until the contest is over. This is the fairest way for competitive reasons. I prefer to keep them all secret until the deadline has passed.

- I'll edit a confirmed entry list in this thread when I receive them. So you won't be in the dark about whether or not I've received your entry.

<u>DEADLINE: </u>

The deadline for this contest will be <b>Tuesday, February 14th, by midnight CST. </b> This gives you about a month to get something drawn.

<u>MISCELLANEOUS INFO: </u>

- As usual, If you don't plan to enter, but would like to help me judge, please let me know through note/PM or mention so in this journal. Thanks to all my usual judges, and I’ll gladly let you help with it again if you’re willing.

So, if you have any questions, feel free to let me know. Join in if you'd like and good luck to everyone who enters!

Odd request, but a friend of mine is looking for front and back scans of the 6 Rockman games on the famicom. Does anybody have these or know where they can be obtained. Thanks for any help!
Not odd at all, but I can't completely help. I have mediocre quality of the PSX versions for front and back, but only decent fronts for Famicom versions:

Here's the Complete Works anyhow, even if it's not what your friend needs:

Anyone have scans of those SkyBox(?) Megaman cards drawn by Mr. Spaziante? (That art was recycled for the Archie comic's concept art) I know I'd saved those at some point; I seriously can't find them anywhere now.
I thought I had four of them at one point, but all I'm finding is two. Make it two of us who can't find them anywhere...^^; (sidenote: wow, I realize I really need to purge/reorganize a lot of old crap quality '90s scans and photos now that we have nice HQ artbooks and scanners nowadays! hahaha):

HOLY [parasitic bomb] IT'S HUGE
Ok, gonna keep a look out for this at Kinokuniya now...
It always seems like whenever I order something from YesAsia, it's out of stock days later when someone else in the community wants to know where to buy it. And of course, they are now out of stock. ^^; But it's linked up there for you if you want to try getting on an email notification list. They've been my best bet for importing current manga over the years. Even though I can only search using the term "rotsukuman." XD

Delayed, but here's a poor cellphone image of the new 8, Maniax, along with a Gigamix and the original Vol. 1 of 8 for size comparison:

As far as I know, the only new thing for 7 was the covers...which were just colored collages of some images in the book anyhow. Page-wise, it was the same, if I remember correctly, just condensed down from 3 volumes into 2. Which is why I didn't feel the need to buy those new editions. :/

I have one question, is it still 2 volumes long?
The old volume 2 is now beefed up?
Or is it now just one volume?
When I was ordering, I had forgotten too. I thought it was gonna be like the re-release of 7, where there were still 2 volumes. But no, it's one gigantic complete volume, totaling 500+ pages, as I said. More like Iwamoto's X re-releases. I got a little too busy today to scan any more, but I'll take a pic of them tomorrow to give you an idea of the size, in comparison to the originals/Gigamix/etc. It's A5 size, so in terms of height, it's the same as Gigamix/UDON's Megamix.

I know this thread has been deader than...better not go there  -u-'...but I just got my copies of Ariga's Rockman Maniax and Izuki's re-issued, complete Rockman 8 in the mail today, and figured I'd post a couple samples again. Man, these books are beasts. It's like a college textbook and the Holy Bible had an illegitimate, extra-healthy, overweight child together.

Maniax doesn't necessarily have a ton of new content, despite being 420 pages. There are a few pages of full color art in both the front and back. The front has things like the RM9 Arranged Soundtrack cover, Rockman Remix's cover, etc. The back has the full color images he created for the Rockman 10 Yrs. History book. After the intro, the Maniax strips go on for about 50 pages, and then 4komas run for a bit, most of which were printed in previous 'Mix' books. The minor enemy gallery is soon after, followed by the Rockman Remix stories. After that, we get the "Robot Master Roll Call" images from Megamix that show all 8 RMs and their Dr.# from RM1-5. Then the RM9 AST manga, although still small in size. 2 pages from the CD booklet version are on each page in here. Artistically, it wraps up with Character File reprints...until we get some fresh ones. RMs from 7-9, plus the Stardroids and Rockman Killers are included. Time Man and Oil Man also get some love, although it's the colorless version of the images we have already seen on the web. Nice compilation, especially if you've missed out on Remix in the past.

I was excited when I heard Izuki's re-issue of Rockman 8 would finally include more pages to complete the story, which left off with Searchman's chapter ending Volume 2. Sword Man and Astro Man had not gotten any love, nor was there any Wily Stage action. This sucker is well over 500 pages now, with nearly 150 pages added on to the originals. Quickly thrown together general summary below:
Sword Man's stage art is pretty neat and beautiful, and it was fun to see his miniboss in action. Typical sword dual in their battle, but a really nice chapter. Astro Man's chapter gets a little weird, filled with illusions, and I guess what seems most disappointing on the surface is...Izuki totally ripped off Ariga. Not speaking Japanese, I can't confirm the text, but to the naked eye, it kinda seems like after blowing up Astroman, KING'S NUMBERS FROM ROCKMAN AND FORTE POP OUT OF HIM! I think I sorta saw that in Gigamix. I mean, OK, I get that Tengu and Astro also appeared in that game, but why do King and all his numbers have to be in the Rockman 8 manga? Izuki already did the RnF manga! I guess it's supposed to make some connection, but it just came across as odd.

Anyhow, hologram King appears to taunt Rock and Wily, he sicks the Green Devil at Tenguman, who came out of the fortress, and they head back into Wily Fortress. All the King numbers are teleported away, except Pirateman, who was ordered to follow Tengu/Devil. Tengu wins, and blows up the Devil's eye, which had some evil energy in it. Pirate goes to grab it, but Rock fires a charge shot and blows something up. No direct visuals to tell if his shot hit Pirate, Tengu, the evil energy, or all three, because as he looks up at a cloud of smoke, Wily Machine breaks through a wall...and Wily's pissed. Wily Machine is possessed by evil energy as well, and loses it's machine look quickly, trading it in for a gooey, skullhead-meets-Geodude look. Duo bursts in, overpowers the evil energy, and Rock still nearly dies. But Rush shows up, Rock goes into Rush Armor mode, and blows up Wily Capsule. Rock passes out. Rock wakes up back in Light Lab, while people celebrate. Back at Blues' grave, Duo and Blues talk about Wily, and all the RM's he's created. Blues' cross headstone has been knocked over (perhaps Duo had something to do with that?). And on the last page, Rock, Guts, Cut, townspeople, etc., start rebuilding.
Is the book released yet?

I heard it was released when the NDC was listed. Maybe I misread something.
Nope, in another week-two weeks. Comic Con starts next Thursday, and the hardcover is available to buy there. For those of us who pre-ordered off of UDON's site, they won't ship until the 27th supposedly. And then the paperback sounds like it isn't out until September, at least according to Amazon.

That my friend is the Kattelox newsfreighter. I can recognize that fish from a mile away.

Huh. From some entrant's perspective it's most likey the reason why.. And I thought the staff entries were sample entries..?

(@.@;)

Somebody needs to have Legends Station update their vehicles and mecha section for people like me who aren't as fluent in Legends, 'cause I saw no sign of a newsfreighter. I knew it was missing key Gesellschaft pieces, but had no clue what it really was. Thanks for the correction.

And plenty of UDON staff/members were guaranteed spots beforehand, they weren't competing with the rest of us average joes. Dickman was asked/guaranteed too, from my understanding. I dunno what the eventual percentage is gonna be, but I assume at least 33% will be just UDON crew artists. They were never just mere samples. Now I wouldn't say that piece only got in because it's similar to Matt's style. There were plenty of 'lil chibis I've seen already, and some lesser quality even made it, but plenty didn't. I think they included a few lesser quality ones to prove anyone and everyone had a real shot at making the book. And that is only fair. I'm sure there are some younger artists out there feeling real good about making it.

Wasn't there a NDC against the art that was chosen until the book was released? Or do you mean they all should have been posted here within the day?

Also, if you mean the image you quoted is Ariga's style. I don't see it.

That ban was lifted yesterday by UDON themselves, and most of the images Flame posted were from winning entries. Many more winners trickled onto dA today. It's up to the artist to post, though.

And I only quoted Dickman's image for Flame's question, not the Ariga one I questioned. This is the Ariga-styled one:

They said Ariga's Style was fine, since he's cool with it or they are pals or something. i dont remember now- but I recall Udon saying his style was fine

Not what I remembered seeing in replies on UDON's blog, and the rules specifically said no to MANGA STYLES, but again, rules always seem to be bent a little in these contests anyhow. Yes, it's nitpicky, but it's just annoying when people judging don't even listen to what they wrote up. No more so than the rage people felt when that Pinnochio-styled one was rejected.

I mean, I'm glad to see these original takes, but there are so many winners that seem to be ripping something else off, whether it's classic comics, Gundam, Transformers, whathaveyou, and the Megaman elements seem completely lost and hardly recognizable. Yet they made it. And others that were more clever and fit closer to the traditional style didn't. Somebody like Rongs (R.Case) who had a much more powerful Legends pic get rejected (albeit done in the wrong dimensions), but a completely unrecognizable solo Ice Man redesign make it. There are creative ones where you can tell they are true fans and did their best to truly give a tribute to the characters, which I have ABSOLUTELY adored seeing, and there are those who you can tell have hardly ever played a game and just did something to get published. And then they give a shoutout on dA to somebody for helping them, since they didn't know much about the series or characters they drew. And that's the thing that depresses me and makes me feel a little worse for shelling out $80 for the hardcover. I dunno. Rant over. Have another nice one from jesonite:
