That's great.

Is it a cashier job?

Salaries and wages are far easier to deal with than commissions.

I want to take on more commissions, but I will need to draft up a contract that will bind the client to a legal agreement, so I don't have to negotiate my rates.  It will list in order each of my expenses, from parts to labor, that way they know what they're paying for.

And art supplies are not cheap.  My gray brush pens cost $22, and Bristol board usually runs me around $12-15 a pad.  And I tend to buy in bulk, so as not to run out, particularly my pens and pencils.  I go through non-photo blue pencils and Pigma Micron liners like Kleenex.

That sounds like a decent paying job, depending on the amount of hours.

Sometimes (most times) I wish I could just stop ringing people, get my stuff and say "[tornado fang] this damn [sonic slicer] ass job" and leave.

Ugh...it was one of those days today. Doing everything in the store AND no one else works there but me. Yet, for some odd as hell reason, my boss still finds time to be mad at me for not being able to get the store to a higher rank....by myself. Aaaand this quickly turned into whats upsetting me. >_<

If it's really that frustrating, It's probably time to find another job.

That boss of yours sounds like a highly irrational being.

Funny thing is, you guys have heard of TWO of my managers. The xboned boss was the store manager, this boss was the regular manager, and the third is the assistant manager but he's younger than me and pretty awesome. And I wish I could find a better job. This one oays weekly and is the most flexible with hours. I want to part time at gamestop since it's literally right there but the conflict of interests thing. Ugh. Kinda good on pay but it's taken a toll on my mind and patience.

While the company would prefer that you represent each console equally, there is no harm in taking a customer aside and telling them truthfully that something blows chunks, so long as you offer alternatives based on their interests, which you can usually discern from what they originally wanted to buy.  I've been able to talk frankly with EB and Gamestop employees before.  They may work for the store, but many of them are still gamers, and they are often willing to discuss their products, even if that product bites.

I personally can't even do that with Gamestop.

Gamestop is so awful in my city though, seeing as its just a small mall store with half of their selection being 360 games.

I haven't even started my summer job yet. Got a summer job as a security guard in Rockefeller, but the process (wasn't certified etc) takes forever. pays good though (if I ever get to [tornado fang]ing start) like 16 an hour. but days off are not always the weekend sadly. that said, I'm always given 2 weekend days, always back to back.

I just wish id start already

I REALLY need a job now. A friend brought over Manhunt 2 and it magically sprung my PS2 into life. All I need now is a memory card, Ratchet and Clank, and a controller that doesn't have "Chinese Knockoff" written all over it...

And the problems I have with trying to find a programming job is thus: firstly, I can't just search up a programming job because I barely even know C++. The languages I'm great with are GML and Lua, though I have a bit of Java experience. Secondly, I can't even find someone on the Game Maker Community forum because the Game Maker version I use is partially obsolete, and the new version is whorishly priced. Which means I would need a job to get it. Which I can't because college and high school kids took all of the great jobs now.

what

Yeah, with a limited programming knowledge, it doesn't leave a lot of options open to you.  There are Java jobs available, but you would need to take and pass a test at the interview, and the job may have absolutely nothing to do with games.

You could freelance.  It wouldn't pay a lot, but it would be a bit of money coming in.  Look around for indie devs who are in need of a programmer.

I've been looking into this, but like I said, my GM version is outdated. I've been applying and hoping that there'd be a paid job who would gladly fund my upgrade to start -- I found out that apparently Game Maker Studio's Standard edition got a big price cut. Still steep but affordable in a sense.

what

This is the best ban reason I've ever seen.

Where did you see that?

And honestly... it would depend on the t-shirts.  Would I be getting t-shirts of my design?  Could I also have other t-shirts?  And how much beef jerky?  Are you giving me a big crate of it?

You need to make T-Shirt designs.

Also, not only are your commissions cheap for what you do but most other professionals do not negotiate. If $150 is your asking price, accept nothing less. Let them know upfront what it will be and if they don't agree then that's the end of it. Like you said, you need to be able to make a profit.

This was my very first commission in a long time, so I was quite nervous.  From now on, though, I intend to draft up contracts.
