If it helps, the first Megaman game was going to be an Astro Boy game, then an arcade game, then a Famicom Disk System game. There's also sample carts for MM3 and MM5 floating around somewhere, if I remember correctly.

I remember waiting eagerly for Mega Man Mania. I had it fully paid off and everything...
:[
I've been tracking this one down for years:
Fortunately, I found one guy who owns it but his pricing was just way too much for my wallet ($200). Supposedly, this build has X playable during the opening stage instead of Axl/Zero.
I've been tracking this one down for years:There is a special edition of X7?! :O

"E3 special edition" :) It's a build from E3, a demo of sorts.
This is actually something I was partly involved with finding.SHAMELESS ADVERTISING, FOR SHAME CAPCOM! 8D
Back in early 2007 (9th of January to be precise), I started messing around with looking inside of games with tilers. I ended up finding some curious tiles. Everyone was like "WTF, Higsby?".(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y108/OmegaNine/sprites/ryusei_glitches/rnrd_711.png)

This didn't evolve much until recently, when MegaRockEXE dug a little deeper. With the help of Barubary from SI, the full textures' true colors could be determined. From maps to sites to battle panels, there were plenty of possibilities.(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y108/OmegaNine/sprites/ryusei_glitches/0_t0_p0.png)(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y108/OmegaNine/sprites/ryusei_glitches/28_t0_p0.png)(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y108/OmegaNine/sprites/ryusei_glitches/28_t1_p1.png)

This is the "Emerald Palace Zone" of the MM fandom IMHO. Lots of scans, but nothing else.
Rockman Strategy isn't a beta. It's just incomplete. Rockman Soccer is also incomplete. Sadly, this doesn't make them more interesting .... just poorly done. On the upside, RMS being incomplete let me rip all the graphics, so ... there's that.
I've been collecting all the recent beta stuff found for my next update to MM Mysteries ... gotta add a link to ProtoDude's Corner to that section while I'm at it. Lots of good stuff there.
X being in the intro stage isnt special?
plus, which build was it? the really early one looked rather cool, it was only an intro stage, with no background save for a purplish X1 type gradient.
2003 build to be precise, you can see it in action here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11wQfyGHzYg).
Something I've had in my archives for quite a while. Thought I'd share if it meant anything.

Regardless of the final product, we can pretty much count on this being a better game than Mega Man X6.

There's also sample carts for MM3 and MM5 floating around somewhere, if I remember correctly.Sure, an old quote, but this reminds me of (slightly off-topic warning) how Donkey Kong originated as a Popeye game. Since Miyamoto couldn't get the rights to Popeye, he changed Olive Oyl into Pauline, Bluto into DK, and Popeye into Mario (or Jumpman, as he was known back then). After all, Mario didn't become Mario until later, when they named him after Mario Segali (think that's it), the landlord of an NOA warehouse, if memory serves. A few years after the DK Arcade game, Miyamoto did get the rights to Popeye, and a game was made from that license. If that was off-topic, sorry. But the quote brought that to mind.
(http://themechanicalmaniacs.com/images/mmmysteries/MMXmys-scrn1.gif)To be on topic, that is quite awesome.

"scrapped projetcs"Toys count?
I don't think there's a lot to talk about toys to warrant a thread just about them, but you guys make the calls.
Either way, Banpresto's Command Mission gashapons:

The line was just constantly delayed and delayed until it faded into obscurity. I remember reading some japanese fan sites ranting on it, but I can't recally any specifics. Some stuff I recovered via archive.org (my own notes though) said that the line was supposed to have 10 figures, even if the only confirmed ones were the five in the poster at the fair.

Youre annoying sometimes, Zan.
This is probably my new favorite thread. That R4 sphinx is fab-u-lous!
So, are any of those betas really for sale by those guys?
Yeah, that's very expensive, but the whole "one of a kind" thing is what makes it like that =/
I must question why the credits for MM Soccer got nixed.I don't think that there is any prototype of an arcade MM game; I think it was always just a very early idea that got shelved before the game went into production.
This is gonna be a tough one, but...does anyone have any magazine previews of the first Megaman, or any visual evidence that it was originally going to be an Astro Boy/arcade/FDS game?
I know I've got an early RnR1 preview lying around here somewhere, but God knows when I'll be able to scan it...
What's different about this screen?

I know for a fact that Rockman world is early and is an English Japanese hybrid and Rockman X3 has a lot of differences. No idea on any other protos.
Let me know how much you can spare on each proto and we'll see if we can work something out.
I don't know if this counts...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlZhcjIy-z0
this one... took a while. i hope there's something here, i realy do.That video is a goldmine of DASH prototype stuff. Seen it a while though.
video. according to protodude, it's mostly just gameplay from the MML2 demo disk that came with the japanese version of Missadventures of Tron Bonne, but starting at about 1:08, a village not used in the final game is supposed to be seen. having never played the game, i can't tell myself.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQQiIJLavWE
These are from at least october of 99, roughly 6 months prior to japanese release. These are pictures from Rockman DASH 2: Episode 1 demo that was included "Tron ni Kobun" (The Japanese version of Misadventures of Tron Bonne). Which may or may not be a prototype it self.

Its actually part of that unseen town that's in that video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQQiIJLavWE#t=1m8s) you pointed out, which isn't even in that Rockman DASH 2: Episode 1 demo.
(http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa229/bowsersenemy/mml2october6.jpg)There's something about these two here that bug me.
if any of this proves to be in the final, let me know and i'll exclude it.
I don't want to bother downloading a fan-translated or Japanese ROM of that Famicom Rockboard game, so I'm taking a risk by asking this.
Did the Japanese game feature some Romaji or even some English text? I asked this because as I was going old articles about old games and I stumbled upon this Spanish article about Capcom (http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/9652/megaboardenglishrelease.jpg) and in it, features a screen-shot of the game in English. It's called "Mega Board" in the article, but I would think it's because its following the "use only localized name" rule.
Here's the exact screen:
Upon analyzing it further, it also mentions something about Super Mega Man (Early Mega Man X name). If anything, this game was translated into English at the time.
Hey guys, just letting you know that I was the one that scanned that magazine for the Lost Levels ( http://forums.lostlevels.org/viewtopic.php?t=2203 ).
The news has been spreading around and the credit is being given to Keiji. Which is not particularly amusing since I sent the same information to several sites (months ago) and I was ignored.
Since I recently received my Rockman DASH CFC Demo disc I've been trying to find if there is anything left over in it. Going through ROCK_NEO.exe turned up the following things:
Beginning at Offset 0005A440 It lists out the directories and files used to compile this demo.
E:\PSX\ROCK_NEO\EXE\LOGO.EXE....................................E:\PSX\ROCK_NEO\EXE\ZNULL.DAT
Neither of these files are on the CD though. Probably not worth much though judging by their names.
Next interesting item appears around offset 0005D7A0
ðò...... NORMAL......¨.. BUSTER......¸.. M_GUN.......È.. SHOT........Ø.. DRILL.......è.. BOMB........ø.. SPREAD......... VACUUM.....................................F... NORMAL.....F¨.. BUSTER.............¾... HELMET.....¾¨.. HAIR...............F@.. ON.........FP.. OFF.........@.. TYPE A......P.. TYPE B.....¾@.. SMALL......¾P.. BIG....
Looks like we have a weapon list for the first part:
Normal - obviously when you can't use your buster
Buster - obvious =P
M_GUN - Machine gun
SHOT - ?? A different name for the Powered Buster possibly?
Drill - Drill Arm
Bomb - Splash Mine most likely
Then SPREAD and VACUUM are obvious.
Next bit that's interesting is the Helmet text, I'm curious if there is some way to turn on Mega Man's helmet since from earlier videos he started out with the helmet.
They Type A, Type B is most likely just the control choices
No clue what SMALL/BIG are though.
Possibly later on tonight I was going to try changing the On to Off or the Off to On to see if it has any results with gameplay.
Has anyone found anything else going through any of the files?
I just wanted to note changing the ON and OFF text that showed up seemed to have no effect at all on gameplay. I did learn one interesting thing though today I hadn't seen mentioned on here before and it's not mentioned on the control layout before starting the beta. Press L2+L1 or R1 and you will do a 90 degree turn. Looks like this was removed from the final in favor of the 180 degree turn using down+O.Wasn't this control scheme in that Capcom Friendly Club demo as well? I recall holding down the L2 and pressed the Right/Left directional button to do a turn.

Pretty uncomfortable control scheme really.
That's the demo I'm referring to. =P The info I gave may not be new, but from what I've seen it hasn't been documented anywhere.
I have spring break coming up soon so I want to see if I can dig into any of the files some to find any more leftovers. It seems a lot of the documentation online is only comparing gameplay and graphical differences. There may be leftover things such as textures or sound clips not used in the demo or final. I'm also curious if any special weapons are in the demo in some form considering they are mentioned in the ROCK_NEO.exe. Problem is I haven't had much experience with many of the stuff here. So it's like a 1000 piece puzzle and it's one solid color.
It will be dumped tonight. The only working cd drive I have has a lot of read problems so I wouldn't trust it with making a rip. A friend of mine is coming over tonight and with his computer so I can rip it. Maybe don't expect an upload till tomorrow though it is my 21st birthday so I have to have some fun! ;)
Then we can finally really start digging into this to see what beta stuff there is.
Also I let the demo play once and X is retarded as hell! 8D
Flame- to answer your question they are the same to figures on both sides (just mirrored). The figure closer to the middle appears to be the falcon armor and the other appears to be the blade armor(I think?).
Cool post
He also has a proto for Mega Man Anniversary Collection (PS2) that was marked March of 2004 (3 months before release) and previewable disc of Command Mission for PS2 and a NR Reader disc for the game cube version. Again no clue on how early or late those are (minus the Anniv. Col. disc), but unfortunately I just had a ~$400 car repair, and I don't have the money for all four discs. They're all roughly $50/piece and my b-day is this friday so hopefully I'll get some birthday cards in the mail from family that will help my proto buying. =)
Sounds pretty cool.Which one? I like the one without the guitar riffs.
But I like the finished version more.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JL0Bt7AprJ8But no, it's not. Listen to my video again.
You do know that this has already been up for quite some time now, right? It's simply the JP version of the track; the one we got has the guitar riff.
Out of curiosity, Skaarg, did anything become of the other betas/prototypes? Did you ever buy them?

Sorry for the late response, college work has been so much lately and a bit of family issue..
I actually did not get to buy them, but I am in contact with the person who did buy them trying to get them dumped. The person uploaded a copy of the PS2 prototype for Command Mission, but it did not play in any emulators for me so I didn't know if it was a bad dump or upload or what. The person did say it was the E3 demo though.
As for the Gamecube NR disc we're still trying to figure that out. I sent an email about the PS2 demo not working and a possible way to dump the Gamecube NR disc, but haven't heard back and that was nearly 2 weeks ago if I recall. If anybody on here knows a surefire method to dump Gamecube NR discs that would be awesome though!
I just wanted to update on the status of these. We got the Gamecube NR disc ripped and unfortunately it's just a reviewable copy so it's essentially exactly the same as the final. (So no beta maps or combat system :() Considering it is pretty much the final game I don't think the staff would like it too much if I were to release that on here. If someone says otherwise I'll upload it and you can examine for yourselves, but I don't believe there are any differences.
DeGamer - I'm really curious what items you have since I didn't think the X7 trial disc was public. I knew a collector bought one a while back, but didn't release anything. Anything you're able to provide and/or release would be great!
I did find this pic while browsing my old mags, which I thought some may want to see:
I have the issue with the ideas in my closet. However, you can find said issue scanned online over at Emuparadise.
I believe I saw some of the ideas for those in the AVGN Nintendo Power Episode.
Burned the game on a CD-R. Works just fine, but hangs after the "press start screen." Might have just been a bad burn on my part. Will try again tomorrow, but there's nothing wrong with the .iso itself.
I tried running it on an emulator and it said "ERROR: unsupported MIPS CPU Instruction"

I really wonder what that unused tune was supposed to be for. I mean, both Tenguman and Clownman's stages use it.
I saw those too. I unfortunately made the mistake as passing them off for random junk. I was changing multiple things at once and thus messed up the graphics and backgrounds to the opening stage and the ice stage. So when I saw those other stages, I thought it was due to the game showing random crap because of my tinkering. I'm glad you pointed it out though as I probably wouldn't have gone back to them. Thanks! owob It would have been sweet if those stages were more complete. óVó
That's just there as a place holder. Capcom does this a lot as I've seen similar stuff in unfinished builds of their other games.
Henger83 said the same thing.
Maybe you guys are twins or something.
Like this?
Like this?
That IS me :P ;)
Oh, and that's how I heard the unused track I mentioned about in the video. That should have told me there were more stages :-[
I'd actually like to change my youtube name. I've heard it's possible (unofficially) but I'm not sure. :\ Anyone know of a way?
Anyone want to pitch in to buy any of the following betas? o-O
NES-
Mega Man 2
Mega Man 3
Mega Man 4
Mega Man 5
SNES-
Mega Man 7
Mega Man Soccer (early, no gameplay)
Rockman X3 (early version, says Sample on the title screen)

Mega Man III
Mega Man V
GBA-
Mega Man Battle Network 2 (debug version)
I believe it's $3000 for all of them (that is a lot) or maybe just pitch in to get the Rockman X3 sample cart. Doesn't matter to me who gets to keep the cart cuz I'm not going to buy another Super Famicom/Nintendo to play it. The rom will suffice for me. XD Too bad there's no detail next to the other betas to note differences. :(
Wow just for dumping them? Hoarders are ridiculous. When Degamer (Henger83 whatever) brought it up I thought some one was selling proto carts and I would love to participate in buying proto carts. But damn those prices skaarg listed for dumping them are just plain ridiculous. Hoarders are freaking ridiculous especially when it comes to beta/protos.
I know who you're talking about with these protos, he's the one I got the X6 Proto from. Nobody would be getting any carts (unless he changed his mind). He just wants the money to dump and release them.
Did he really come down to $3000 to release them all? Originally he had these prices listed:
For all of that it came to nearly $8000. If he has come down that much I'd definitely be more interested in working with a fundraiser to get them dumped. Even if we didn't reach a goal of $3000 I'm sure we could get some of them dumped.

When Degamer (Henger83 whatever) brought it up
It makes sense though. Protoyypes are rare, because people DON'T have them. If they were to be dumped and distributed, their value would plummet and no one would care to own them. It's really a smart move, because the demand will be high enough eventually. Until then hes enjoying it and you aren't so no skin off his ass.
I doubt the value would plummet. Just because most people willing to pay those high prices for rare games/protos want the originals. Most people that just use roms or are happy with repros don't think to them selves that they are going to pay $200+ for a proto.
Although I do agree that he can probably care less if we ever end up with it. I hope he's at least made a personal backup for himself since I've heard plenty of stories from hoarders that refused to dump their disc/cart only to lose it or have it ruined/worn out somehow and become totally useless.
I guess the thing is for me is when I seek out stuff like this I like to share it for all to enjoy and like finding others that do the same.
From my experience with DreamTR he is very nice and many people say he typically has fair prices. Which is definitely true for his disc based games. The X6 proto was bought for only $50, which I feel if anyone had checked the contents, it probably would have gone for more. I think cartridge games in general tend to be higher due to the fact there is a bit more work into preserving them and then the cost of dumping them is higher compared to a CD that can be popped into any computer.
As for the thing on hoarders, I used to hate them, but then I changed my mind a few years ago. The bottom line is nobody deserves the data, and technically nobody should have it. If something gets released I say be grateful for that. If a person pays money for (usually) stolen property they can do whatever they want with it.

Could you do that, please? I could extract them alone, but then finding this would be a nightmare. D :
Awesome stuff, man. I think I once found some of those Legends ones when I was just starting my adventure into extracting stuff from games, namely the GEEMU OVAA from servbots. Can't remember if anything else.
: P
I didn't get much credit for the sharing tho. ^^;
What you see above is old early alpha gameplay footage of Rockman NEO, or what would much later be known as Rockman DASH.
This footage features very many several key differences... This video features annotations by me that go over said differences... including a different Ferdinand boss model, a totally different city layout, and a completely different HUD that looks nothing familiar to the final version’s gameplay.
Hey KeijiDragon, do you mind if I make a video response of your video with just the video? Why? That's redundant. Just skip to 0:20 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=J_qtBbKFab0#t=20s). =P
