Title: Apparently the author has not really delved deep into the depths of FF.Net...
Post by: Quickman on November 03, 2010, 06:24:57 AM
I found this to be just silly and decided to type it up.  But before we get to the article at hand, a bit of background.  Every Tuesday, the York Daily Record has a "Teen Takeover" feature in the "Living" section.  The articles are written by students from around York County.  Here is one of those articles:

Quote from: Fanfiction.net a great site for aspiring writers, media fans
By Usha Baublitz

A little more than a year ago, a friend of mine showed me a review she received on a story she had written for a website made for media fans.

I'm gonna jump in here real quick to remind you all that the author is in middle school.

Quote
The site allows users to write and post stories about the casts and characters of their favorite books, movies, TV shows and cartoons.  I was immediately interested in fanfiction.net because I have always loved to write stories and the site allows you to post them anonymously--saving you the embarrassment of anyone knowing that it's your story they're reading.

Users and visitors can also review the stories written by other users.  Fanfiction.net is free, and it's the perfect way to waste time by reading stories by other people who enjoy the same things you do.

Like lemons, slash fics, and Mary Sues.

Quote
It's also considered to be an international journaling website, so there could be someone halfway across the planet reading your story.

Welcome to the Internet.

Quote
The site categorizes stories by genres, subjects, and status.  If you look hard enough, you can probably find a story about almost anything.  I once found one about pickles.

Wonder what those pickles were used for...

Quote
Though, pickle stories aren't common, there are stories for basically any form of entertainment you can think of, so there will always be something for everyone.

I love this site.  It's actually where I realized my passion for writing, and I love reading stories by other people from other parts of the world who I can relate to by talking about some book series we're both reading or writing about.  My two favorite parts about the site are that I have the freedom to make up any type of story I want--there are no restrictions on ideas.  However, there are restrictions on foul language and discrimination, and all violators will be banned from the site.

Apparently Baublitz hasn't seen the part of FF.net that I have seen...

Quote
Secondly, I enjoy getting e-mails about the progress of my stories.  When I get reviews, update alerts, or my story is added to somone's favorites list, I can't help but feel great, knowing that someone in the world enjoys what I write.  And it truly is a great feeling.

Now go read Half-life: Full Life Consequences and tell me if FF.Net is so great then.  Obviously Baublitz hasn't yet ventured into the darker depths of that place...

But but... Half-life: Full Life Consequences is awesome!

... for all the wrong reasons, mind you.

FF.net has seen me through many cold lonely nights.

Nights that were then filled with laughter and erection killing.

Oh you guys.
There's nothing wrong with fanfiction.net.
There are some really good ffs there, if you are lucky to find one.
Also, I enjoy posting my trollfics there, (though I have not posted anything in a while).

I even remember that some srs bsns Sonicfag threatened to report me for trolling because of one of my Sonic trollfics.
Good times.
I gotta seriously write that sequel to that one Geass trollfic too. : >

Meh, I used to get on fanfiction.net, but I don't go on there anymore because I am too lazy to write something. I only prefer writing Lemons on Adultfanfiction.net.

Something NSFW I saw at Pixiv would come to mind for me.

I used to go there read a few humor Sonic ff, but I've lost interest. :\

It's like that one time in art class, 7th period, someone drew a troll face without knowing the history of the image. Aha wow, what people with little sanity left will do for attention.  :P

Why do kids go ape [parasitic bomb] every time they discover [parasitic bomb] like this on the Internet? It boggles the mind. IT KEEPS ME AWAKE AT NIGHT.
What are "lemons"?
Some questions are better left unanswered, friend.

Ive actually read one or two megaman fan fics on there that I enjoyed. (well, once you throw aside their impossibility)

Look up "Wily Canyon" some time. I found that one interesting to read.

Anyone ever read Gatecrash BTW? hilarious Megaman/ Link crossover. (its not on FF.net, its on that site that hosted the X1 scanlation but still)

I've read a couple decent fics on FF.Net, but I can't remember what they were and it took some serious slogging through the cesspool of Mary Sues and other horrible things just to find those.

Because you don't want people to know that it was you who wrote such awful trash, right?

That would be my guess.  But, seeing as how anyone who puts words on a page thinks they're a writer and thinks that their fic is the [parasitic bomb], then I doubt that really crossed the person's mind.  More than likely, she did it to fit in and "be cool."  Because pseudonyms are the way to go.

My personal favorite on FF.net was Creation and Emotion: A Megaman Alternate Universe by Sierra Omega.

It is cliched in many regards, but I enjoyed it greatly. FF.net isn't all bad. XD

Another actually well made one, (by the author of Gatecrash) "ZerOthello"
which is self explanatory. A Megaman X re-working of Othello.

Actually one of my favorite MM fics. (though can it really be called a "fan-fic" if its based on Othello..?)

Uninvited Guests...a bleach fanfic....ok stop laughing.
I actually enjoyed it more than the actual story....just because it makes fun of it and without going out of character..too much.

I have yet to delve into the Law & Order fanfics.  I started to read one and it didn't seem bad, but it didn't hold my interest very well.  I may try reading those again some day as it would take at least some level of maturity (and skill) to write a decent fanfic of that show.

I remember there was this one site, where they would "Hack" fanfics into pieces, by posting them on their site and sticking their comments in between. It was hilarious and kept me entertained.
They even did that one Harry Potter fanfic where Draco's father drills a hole in Draco's skull and fucks it.
There was a lot of hacks of X-Files fanfics too. : P

Sadly, the site no longer exists.

I'd like to see this guy read a fan fic from Musashi the Master and still say it's great.  Especially since this is the GUY who likes to make crossovers with Megaman and Tokyo Mew Mew!  But there are gems such as Rockman exe. the College Years and the MATHS Megaman X series.  Also a few Seiken Densetsu and Persona fics.

Give it time, that person (I do believe she is female due to the name.  I mean, how many guys do you know named "Usha"?) will eventually discover something horrible.  Though, it may need to wait until they have matured a bit more as they are still quite young, seeing as how they are in middle school.

I don't know anyone named Usha so I can't tell.  I hope he/she never finds Musashi the Master since he's starting a new Megaman/Tokyo Mew Mew crossover with Star Force now. X(

That's another thing that pisses me off about FF.net.  They keep those horrible stories around but they delete really good ones like Ballade of the Floating Belt Buckle, Dysfunctional Megaman and Te Amo.  Honestly I have no idea why they do that.
Title: Re: Apparently the author has not really delved deep into the depths of FF.Net...

Authors can delete their work, you know. Just because it's gone, doesn't mean FF.net did it.

The authors of good stories must've decided that they should put their gold elsewhere, lest it be tarnished by all the crap.

Oh yeah I forgot about that but still it makes no sense to me to tell you the truth.  Especially since Te Amo was a one shot, I mean I can understand Ballade of the Floating Belt Buckle since that has been on hiatus but it really doesn't make sense for Te Amo.  Dysfunctional Megaman was written by the same author so maybe he just completely deleted his account.

I still beleive that Devil May Cry fic should be burned with fire though.

The authors of good stories must've decided that they should put their gold elsewhere, lest it be tarnished by all the crap.
That makes sense too but I still wish I could read those stories again.

Musashi the Master

And here I realize I've talked a few times with this guy because he's seemingly on my MSN contact list somewhere and not once did he mention any of his fanfics, but I noticed his obsession for KOS-MOS. Now I kinda understand why he constantly felt conflicted and angered.

God damn.

With FF.net though, I've never really visited it other than the time when a buddy of mine wrote some fanfic about Zero's marriage. Haven't read more than that story of his from the site.

THIS FIC GAVE ME BONER.

Ah, I love you internet and your sense of humor.

Maybe I missed something, but at what point did the author imply that everything on there was good?
Plus being in middle school probably means she writes those kind of fics, never mind being capable of determining if a fic is good or not.

I see nothing new or interesting here. Move along.

Probably towards me considering the delay.
But at least Quickie didn't try to argue my point.

EDIT: Well, that was awfully smug of me...
In my first post, I didn't mean to come of as a jerk or anything; it was half tongue-in-cheek, I just hate using smilies.
Though I still think Quickman could've tried to argue a point rather than just calling me names.
