Title: More teasing from WayForward. Speculation Ahoy!
Post by: Jericho on March 07, 2009, 01:44:40 AM
(http://i39.tinypic.com/i1l7c3.jpg)

Top 3 best speculations from me:

1.) The Luigi to Shantae's Mario?
2.) (Hopefully) A new platformer franchise main character?
3.) WayForward's first foray into RPGs this gen?

You decide. Either way, I'm hyped. AGAIN. 8)

Named after Grandma?

Alta - Tall, height
Shantae - Peaceful

Not related. Besides that, there are a ton of 3D models and other graphical designs made specifically for a Shantae game. I'd look for old, old games that WayForward made.

Yeah, I knew all of that already, I just felt like being spontaneous for the sake of it since this is a total wildcard in terms of speculations.

Quote
- developed exclusively for DSiWare
- Alta is the main character
- control Alta as she warps through maze-like chambers as they flip as if they’re pages from a book
- Action on top screen
- Bottom screen shows preview of next room, and position Alta will warp to
- warp safely from room to room without getting crushed, falling or causing some other kind of issue
- traps, puzzles and more
- directed by Matt Bozon, Shantae’s daddy
- no release date/price point just yet, but they are expected to release this info before the DSi launches

Not sure where exactly to put this....

Anyway, my scanner's not working, so I can't provide pics, but I thought I'd bring this to your attention.

The newest issue of the UK's Official Nintendo Magazine has a brief section on a DSiWare Shantae game, "Risky's Revenge", I think it was. Apparently it's the first in an episodic series, and there's an interview with one of the dev team, too.

S'probably old news by now, but whatever.

I have to agree here. Im not buying a DSi that really isnt worth it at all, when the DSLite still works good for me.
Plus its not a game im particularly excited about, so yeah. :P no disrespect to the purple haired gal herself, but im not really that excited. Specially with where its on.

Anyone got any tips for Shantae?

I'm playing it so I can get a lead-up to just what the new game/episodes are all about.

I've already beaten the first level and boss, but man, it seems like there's a lot of items to find and use, dancing doesn't do anything just yet, and just any useful advice beyond "Walk slowly; enemies love to pop up out of nowhere and do collision damage to you".

Story's good, although Risky Boots is a little...strange. It's like they made an Arabian Pirate Vampire Goth; they weren't sure WHAT they wanted! XD
And I looove Shantae's walking sprite. She's all, "I'm going to KICK SOMEBODY'S ASS for this."
Love it.
Yeah, it's definitely Q1 2010, now!

I couldn't imagine it being Q2 considering it was in Nintendo Power and everything. They were really close to done, it seemed.

wow, i be waited for the sequel for quite a long time now

let's hope that it will be as good as the original

one minor nitpick, the cut scenes are not good IMHO, is the same lazy style of 2 artwork avatars placed ina background and text box, that we see in many games today, what happened to the days of good actual cut scenes like ninja gaiden or many capcom games of the 8-bit & 16-bit era, hell the latest Megaman's 9 & 10 had more story and cut scenes than no other megaman games, to quote you an example, Dragonball revenge of king piccolo, i hated that they hyped that the game will have Real oldschool cutscenes like in the old days, and turned out that only are few of them and served as a tease, while the rest are just the same lazy BS cut scenes of today.

Title: Re: More teasing from WayForward. Speculation Ahoy!

I see nothing wrong with the "cutscene style"
Title: Re: More teasing from WayForward. Speculation Ahoy!
Post by: HyperSonicEXE on April 07, 2010, 08:09:07 AM
Typically, I'd bash it since these new Sonic games got me REALLY sick of that cutscene style.

But when there's bewbs involved? I'll gladly accept. :3

So I don't know anything about this series, what should I draw, how should I draw, and y'know, any helpful suggestions on this and that.

Budget, I'd guess. Making a few mugshots is a lot easier than entire scenes every time. And Shantae 2 is very much a risky project (no pun intended), considering it only has a cult following and is a platformer.
Title: Re: More teasing from WayForward. Speculation Ahoy!
Post by: HyperSonicEXE on April 09, 2010, 05:25:19 AM
Well a lot less riskier than A Boy and His Blob and Mighty Flip Champs!.

The latter, by the way, was BLOODY AWESOME and I highly recommend it.

But really, anything on any of these online services is risky, as WayForward's about to find out big time. Amazing how many people don't know these consoles and handhelds can go online...

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to listen to the new boss music at least 5 more times. <3

Having recently completed the GBC game, I can say I'm pretty excited about this. It looks like they included a Castlevania style back dash in there. That will help a lot. I do not have a DSi though, and I am skeptical about getting one since the 3DS is coming out soon, and the DSi to DSiXL proved you can't transfer download vouchers.

Shantae: Risky's Revenge official PR - no longer episodic, release will be full game

Shantae shakes and shimmies back into the gaming scene this October in her first adventure since the cult classic Shantae was released for the Game Boy Color™ in 2002. The all new sequel offers a powder keg of high octane, hair-whipping, hip shaking action, exclusively available on DSiWare™. WayForward sets the animation bar higher than ever with thousands of frames of animation, huge multi-sprite bosses, and a quest so big it’s bursting at the seams.

Product Summary: Guide “half-genie” Shantae through haunted wastes, burning deserts, enchanted forests, dripping caverns and deadly labyrinths. Discover magical attacks, brew zombie coffee, save golden babies, and master the art of belly-dancing to transform Shantae into
more powerful creatures. Use all your powers to foil the nefarious lady pirate Risky Boots and save Sequin Land from certain doom!

With its infectious characters, flirtatious humor and deliciously outlandish action, Shantae: Risky’s Revenge offers up all the hair-whipping, belly-dancing action players can handle!

“Nintendo DSi owners have been waiting for an exclusive download game that pushes the action beyond what’s possible on the Nintendo DS or
Nintendo DS Lite," says WayForward Creative Director Matt Bozon. "Which is why we see Risky’s Revenge as helping define the system for
so many players.”

Originally conceived as multiple cliffhanger episodes, Shantae: Risky’s Revenge now arrives in the form of a full-release product. The game will be available for purchase on October 4th, 2010 exclusively through the Nintendo DSiWare service for 1200 Nintendo DSi Points™.

It should.  Nintendo's already confirmed (http://www.1up.com/news/dsiware-games-transferable-to-3ds) that you can migrate DSi Ware from DSi to 3DS (despite the current inability to do so between DSi/XL's), so I can't imagine any reason you wouldn't be able to download new ones.

The way she does that and the way you rip sprites are different.

Besides, you can't just [tornado fang]ing screenshot a screen of the game, and rip sprites from that.

Well, you kinda can. But it should be only done if you're ripping via emu, which can disable layers.
It's done either through emus, or by dissecting the roms using various tools.
And both of them are out of the question right now because the 3DS roms are some heavily encypted [parasitic bomb].

Don't argue with me Ladd.
Seriously.
Don't.
plz

Also to even get sprites ripped through screenshots, it has to be clean, no color loss, it should be in 1:1 aspect ratio and the character or sprite has to be in a simple background or empty layer that can be easily edited or removed later.
Title: Re: More teasing from WayForward. Speculation Ahoy!
Post by: Ladd Spencer on November 12, 2012, 08:40:14 AM
Or you can take multiple shots to get around obscuring. The dimensions are the roughest though. But you do have a doo hickler for your 3DS, right Vixy?

it's called a capture card.

and all the screenshots in the world won't help unless there's no background, unless you can remove the layers artificially. all the capture card does is feed video to a PC. nothing more, nothing less. until we can find a way to decrypt 3DS roms, we won't be able to program emulators to run them.

and if there's no emulators to run them, there's no way to artificially remove backgrounds.

and wayforward never has simple backgrounds in their games; they're always quite nice, and the screens for Pirate's Curse show that this trend continues.

With enough screens one can determine the exact ends of sprites. It's just more work. But if I know nerds on the Internet, they'll do it anyway.

but the only reason the 3DS has Risky's Revenge is because it has access to the entire DSiWare library.

it's not the 3DS having RR, it's the 3DS playing the DSiWare's RR.

Stop living in the old age, old man.

Because now we're discussing a new age situation where none of the easy methods are available. It's going to happen with the advent of every new console. If somebody wants the sprites that desperately, they'll recreate them by scratch if they have to.

It only got attention because it wasn't available by default in the eShop.
Mainly when it did reach eShop, but it didn't do so in all locations. I had to change my country setting to the UK to get it, for example.

Pick one.

First, if it's successful enough on the 3DS, then it goes on Steam's greenlight program, like with Risky's Revenge. Here comes the fun part: Ripping stuff from a PC game is not as easy as one thinks.

And Zan has a point. If I want sprites from Project X Zone, I'm gonna have to raid the main site for screenshots as clean as possible, grab as many screenshots from the videos as possible, edit out the background and then edit the sprites so that they have no stray particles in them as a solid, unified pallete, which back then couldn't be done as easily since nobody found out about the print+screen trick yet, as shown in the Mechanical Maniacs' website.

No I'd just chugged some delicious wine but if you can't figure it out I'll make it one sentence.

Someone using a TV card and the actual game will facilitate sprites appearing online. The concept that super Internet nerds won't put forth the extra leg of work to get the sprites ripped is ridiculous. What else are they gonna do, play the new Mega Man game for the anniversary?
